Bangkok, Jun 25 :  Veteran actor Rekha, in a rare public performance, and Ranbir Kapoor brought the curtains down at the IIFA Awards 2018 as they enthralled audiences with their riveting dance moves.

This year's award ceremony, hosted by director Karan Johar and actor Riteish Deshmukh and held at Bangkok's famed Siam Niramit theatre, was a glittery affair with stars like Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Konkona Sen Sharma, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Arjun Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Dia Mirza, Bobby Deol and others gracing the green carpet.

Rekha, at 63, dressed in light pink anarkali, proved that age is just a number for her as she mesmerised the audiences with her performance on vintage tracks such as "Salaam-e-Ishq" from "Muqaddar Ka Sikanda", "Dil Cheez Kya Hai" from "Umrao Jaan" and "Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya" from "Mughal-e-Azam".

At the end of her 20-minute-long performance, the audience gave a big shout out to the star as well as a well-deserved standing ovation that left her overwhelmed with joy.

The younger lot of Bollywood, that included Ranbir, Varun, Arjun, Kartik, Kriti and Nushrat, descended on the stage to pay their tributes to the veteran star.

Ranbir, who is awaiting the release of his next "Sanju", was the penultimate performer at the awards and the actor arrived in style to the tunes of his rock songs "Sadda Haq" and "Bulleya".

During his pulsating performance, he grooved on popular tracks of his own films including "Badtameez Dil", "Besharam", "Balam Pichkari" and others.

Ranbir's performance was preceded by that of Shraddha Kapoor, Kriti and Arjun.

Shraddha performed on a medley of tracks such as "Lagti Lahore Diya", "Naah Naah Goriye" and "Bom Diggy Diggy", while Kriti and Arjun danced together on songs like "Raabta", "Tune Maari Seetiyan" and "Hawa Hawa".

Varun was another star of the evening as he looked like a Jedi from Star Wars while dancing on "Badlapur" track "Jee Karda" with a prop sword that could be easily mistaken for a lightsaber.

He later turned the heat on, showing off his spectacular dancing skills on the tracks "Sau Tarah Ke" from "Dishoom", "Ha Toh Sahi" from "Judwaa 2" and "Tamma Tamma" from "Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya".

His energetic act came to an end with "Tan Tana Tan" where he engaged in a dance-off with his exact duplicate on a screen.

Bobby Deol, who is coming fresh from the success of "Race 3", took the audiences back to late nineties and early 2000s as he danced on hit songs from his films such as "Gupt", "Barsaat" and "Soldier".

He was later joined by Iulia Vantur and the two then danced on "Race 3" songs - "Selfish" and "Party Chale On".

"Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety" star Kartik Aaryan was the first performer at the ceremony and he grooved on the songs of his film during his act.

Vidya Balan-starrer "Tumhari Sulu" bagged the top prize of the evening as well as the best director while Irrfan Khan won the best actor for "Hindi Medium". Sridevi was posthumously adjudged the best female actor for her performance in "Mom" at the 19th edition of the IIFA Awards.PTI
Mumbai, Jun 21 : Living in the make-belief world of movies can be tricky but actor Ranbir Kapoor says the way to navigate is by being absolutely real in front of the audience, like Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt.

Khan and Dutt, both close friends, have been in the industry for more than 25 years. The actors, however, have also courted controversies.

Asked what has he imbibed from their lives as an actor and as a person, Kapoor says he learnt the ability to be real, come what may.

"With Salman sir and Sanju sir, who are such loved superstars, it is very important to be who you are, irrespective of doing anything right or wrong. They are two actors who really are who they are. They probably made mistakes in their lives and probably paid a price for it.

"But you know who they are as people and I think that's what is important. You cannot manipulate an audience, you cannot live a PR filled life or try to be someone you're not, give impression to people 'Oh, I am so great'. You just have to be who you are," Kapoor told PTI in an interview.

The "Jagga Jasoos" actor believes that in the end the audience wants to be entertained by movies and as an actor, all he wants is people to like him for his work, which is of utmost importance.

But being real in front of the audience for actors can be tricky and Kapoor feels it is "way more difficult to be emotionally naked than physically."

The chance to be emotionally vulnerable came to him with Rajkumar Hirani's "Sanju", a biopic on Dutt.

"'Sanju' was such a part where I got so much opportunity. It had so much in the part, as an actor you get turned on and say 'wow'. It is hard, but sometimes you have a cushioned pillow in the form of a filmmaker, Rajkumar Hirani.

"You feel comforted, there is so much trust, you want to surrender and be honest to the moment completely," he says.

When the script -- written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi -- came to him, every aspect of Dutt's life shocked him.

"The Sanjay Dutt you and I know is very different from what you will see in the film. Someone who is scared, made mistakes, who you'd probably think is immature, selfish. To understand him from this perspective was new, endearing and exciting.

"You may have your own opinion about him after you see the film, but it is an honest portrayal of a very troubled man who has made a lot of mistakes," Kapoor says.

"Sanju", which features actor Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt, is the story of the ups and downs in the life of the "Munnbhai" star and focuses on the relationship between him and his father.

For Kapoor, the father-son dynamic hit closer home.

"I really identified with that dynamic between Sanju sir and Sunil sir, because me and my father have a similar relationship. There is a lot of fear, distance, admiration, respect and love. We both are actors.

"The three backbones of 'Sanju' are the father-son dynamic, the friendship dynamic and a question mark," he says.

"Sanju" is slated to release on June 29. PTI

Mumbai, May 30 : Ranbir Kapoor says it is hard to please his father, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, but her mother Neetu has always been his biggest fan.

The 35-year-old actor said his father never compliments him and only pushes him to work harder.

Rishi, however, recently praised Ranbir's portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in upcoming biopic, "Sanju" and the young actor says he was touched by it.

"Besides being my father, he is also an actor I really admire and respect... He never tells me to my face that I've done good work, not that I expect it either. But when you hear such words coming from him, it is incredible, it really moved me, made me emotional.

"Every father wants their son to do well, but my father is very careful that he won't give compliments for free. He always tells us 'kasar reh gayi hai, work harder' (There is still scope for improvement, work harder)'. This was a wonderful gift," Ranbir said at the trailer launch of "Sanju".

The actor added that his mother loves his performance in all his films.

"My mother is my biggest fan, whatever I do she loves. When she saw 'Bombay Velvet' she thought it was the greatest film in the world," he said.

"Sanju", directed by Rajkumar Hirani, also reunites Ranbir with his "Saawariya" co-star Sonam Kapoor after a decade. They both started their career together with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.

"We never got an opportunity to work together again but Sonam is still the same, she hasn't changed. Her personality is still the same. The only thing which has changed is that she has become an even better actress. Both of us really enjoyed working with each other," he said.

Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, "Sanju" also features Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza and Anushka Sharma.

The film's music is presented by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and is scheduled to release on June 29.
