New Delhi, Mar 29 :  Three unidentified men robbed a jewellery shop in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar on Friday and fled the spot after firing bullets, one of which hit a man standing outside the store leaving him injured, police said.

The trio entered the shop at around 3:15 pm, according to Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).

The shop's owner, Sushil Kumar, was alone at the spot when the incident occurred, she said.

Police said the robbers took away jewellery items. However, the worth of the jewellery could not be immediately ascertained, they said.

When the accused were leaving the store, Sushil Kumar's son Sahil, and his friend Rajat Kumar (22), who were present outside the shop, raised the alarm.

In retaliation, the accused fired bullets, one of which hit Rajat Kumar in the hand.

Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

A case was registered and police are analysing the CCTV footage of nearby areas, they said.

Muzaffarnagar, Feb 26 :  A group of four armed men looted Rs 8 lakh cash from a man in a village here when he was on his way to the bank to deposit the money, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place near Talda village under the Jansath police station limits in the district on Monday, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Alok Sharma said.

Police are searching for the accused and no arrests have been made so far, he said.          [Agencies]


New Delhi, Oct 11 (PTI) A 26-year-old suspected robber-cum-auto lifter, who used to come here from Haryana's Jhajjar district to commit thefts, was arrested from Najafgarh Bijwasan road, police said on Thursday.

The accused was identified as Srikant alias Arjun.

A team was formed after the police received a tip off about a robber, the police said.

The team saw a man coming on a motorcycle from Issapur Khera cut on Najafgarh Bijwasan road. Police asked him to stop but he tried to flee. He was nabbed after a brief chase, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya said.

During investigation, it was found that the motorcycle had been stolen from Baba Haridas Nagar area here.

The accused told police that he is a resident Jhajjar's Mundakhera village.

He was a milk supplier there but since he could not earn much, so he started selling illicit liquor at the Haryana-Delhi border. He could not carry on for long due to the police pressure, Arya said.

Srikant stole two motorcycles and procured a country-made pistol to commit robberies in Delhi and make easy money. He would run away to his native village after committing robberies, he said.

He used to identify targets on lonely roads and streets and kept the weapon to threaten in case he would get caught, he added.

The DGP said a country-made weapon along with two live cartridges and two stolen motorcycles have been recovered from Srikant's possession.


Palghar (Maha), Oct 4: Four people, including a jeweller, have been arrested for allegedly robbing ornaments worth Rs 44.87 lakh from a goldsmith in a train here in Maharashtra, police said Thursday.

Kundan Vaishnav (38), a jeweller, had boarded the Bhavnagar-Kakinada Express on September 29 at Vasai station when some persons snatched his jewellery bag and ran out of the stationary train, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Western Railway) Purushottam Karad told reporters here Wednesday.

The victim later registered a case with the Vasai railway police, alleging that he was robbed of jewellery worth Rs 44.87 lakh in the train, he said.

Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed the four accused -- Tousif Taukir Khan (23), jeweller Harish Devraj Rawal (35), Hussain Ilias Subanis (37) and Mohammad Rafique Yusuf Shaikh (32) -- from different places in the last few days, he said.

A raid was conducted at Rawal's jewellery shop in the neighbouring Mumbai city and the booty was recovered, he said.

The accused had tracked Vaishnav's movements for 15 days before committing the robbery, Karad said, adding that a search was on for three more people involved in the crime.

New Delhi, Jun 30: Two Army jawans were robbed of all their belongings, including their clothes, while they were sleeping in the retiring room of the Old Delhi railway station today, railway sources said.

The incident took place at 4:00 am today while the jawans were sleeping and the thieves ran away with their suitcases, identity cards, watches, mobiles and even their clothes, they said.

An FIR has been registered by the Government Railway Police at the Old Delhi railway station.

The Delhi Division of Railways has ordered an inquiry into the matter, the sources said.

Patiala, Jun 18: Two persons were killed as three men opened fire during a robbery bid at a petrol pump near here, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday night at Guru Nanak Petro Mall near village Chamarheri Toll Plaza on the main Patiala-Rajpura road, SP Harwinder Singh Virk said.
He said the three men armed with pistols came on a motorcycle and demanded money from employees of the pump.
As the employees refused to hand over the money, the accused shot a man identified as Kuldeep Singh, who was having tea with petrol pump employees.
Another persons Davinder Singh tried to capture them but they also shot at him and fled on a motorcycle. Both victims later died in a hospital, police said.
A case has been registered and investigations were underway, the police officer said.
