New Delhi, Jun 26  :   The Centre on Wednesday ruled out any intelligence failure in the Pulwama attack and said that the NIA has identified the conspirators and suicide attacker responsible for the February 14 terror strike in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said that Jammu and Kashmir is affected by terrorism sponsored and supported from across the border for the last three decades.

"Owing to the policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and sustained action against the terrorists by the security forces, a large number of terrorists have been neutralised during the past few years," he said.

When asked whether the reasons of the Pulwama terror attack was the failure of intelligence, Reddy replied in the negative.

"All agencies are working in a coordinated manner and the intelligence inputs are shared among various agencies on real time basis.

"The investigation by NIA into the Pulwama attack so far has resulted in identifying the conspirators, suicide attacker and the vehicle provider," the minister said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on February 20 took over the probe into the February 14 terror attack in Pulwama from the Jammu and Kashmir police.

Tensions flared up between India and Pakistan after a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Kashmir's Pulwama.

In response to the attack, the Indian Air Force struck a JeM terrorist training camp in Pakistan's Balakot area on February 26.                                [Agencies]

New Delhi, Jun 15  :   Patients in the national capital faced hardships for the second consecutive day as protest by doctors, in solidarity with their striking colleagues in Kolkata, spread to several government hospitals on Saturday.

Doctors at the Centre-run Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital, and RML Hospital, and Delhi government's healthcare facilities such as GTB Hospital, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital and DDU Hospital, boycotted work and held protests.

However, emergency and ICU services were not hampered in these hospitals.

Meanwhile resident doctors of AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital, who resumed work after having boycotted it on Friday, have given a 48-hour ultimatum to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to meet the demands of the state's agitating doctors, failing which they said they would go on an indefinite strike.

They attended patients wearing helmets and bandages on forehead as a sign of protest. AIIMS resident doctors will also take out a candle march in the campus in the evening.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked states to consider enacting a specific legislation for protecting doctors and medical professionals from any form of violence.

Along with a letter to all chief ministers, he also attached a copy of the Draft Act provided by IMA --the Protection of Medical Service Persons and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act, 2017.

The move comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) launched a four-day nationwide protest from Friday and wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding enactment of a central law to check violence against healthcare workers in hospitals, and making such crimes non-bailable offence.

The apex doctors body has called for a nationwide strike on June 17 with withdrawal of non-essential health services.

Patients bore the brunt of the protest, as they faced a lot of inconvenience and had to wait for long hours at hospital OPDs.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman who visited Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital for follow-up check up claimed that she could not find a doctor in the OPD.

"My ultra-sound is due. I always come here for check-up but today I could not find a doctor to consult with. Now I have to go somewhere else but I have learnt that protests are on at other hospitals too. We patients are facing lot of discomfort because of this strike," she said.

On Friday, a majority of hospitals in Delhi had joined the country-wide agitation in support of the doctors in West Bengal, on a call given by the India Medical Association (IMA) and various resident doctors' associations (RDAs).

However, many hospitals could not join the protest on June 14 as they had not submitted the 24-hour advance notice to the government as required by protocol.

So, they are observing a bandh on Saturday, President of Federation of Residents Doctors' Association (FORDA) Sumedh Sandanshiv said, adding however, ICUs and emergency wings of these hospitals are functioning.

In a statement, FORDA said they would be forced to go on an indefinite strike if the issue in West Bengal is not resolved.

There was a shutdown of out patient departments (OPDs), routine operation theatre services and ward visits, except emergency services at these hospitals of the city, where doctors held their token strike on Saturday.

Junior doctors in West Bengal are on a strike since Tuesday after two of their colleagues were attacked and seriously injured allegedly by relatives of a patient who died at NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

A forum of doctors in the national capital issued a statement holding the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal "squarely responsible for letting the situation snowball to the present state through sheer lack of sensitivity for concerns expressed by junior doctors".

It appealed to the resident doctors to include the healthcare issues concerning the common people in their struggle and asked the TMC government to "stop politicising on the issue and address the demands raised by doctors in the earnest".

Scores of doctors in Delhi had held demonstrations on Friday, with many attending to patients in emergency wards wearing bandages on forehead or helmets, marching and raising slogans.                                                                                             [Agencies]

Kolkata, Jun 14 : Agitating doctors Friday demanded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's unconditional apology and set six conditions for the state government to withdraw their four-day-long stir that disrupted healthcare services across West Bengal.

"We want unconditional apology of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the manner in which she had addressed us at the SSKM Hospital yesterday. She should not have said what she had," a spokesperson of the joint forum of junior doctors, Dr Arindam Dutta, said.

While visiting the SSKM Hospital on Thursday, Banerjee had contended that "outsiders" had entered medical colleges to create disturbances and the agitation was a conspiracy by the CPI(M) and the BJP.

Listing the six conditions, the agitators said the chief minister will have to visit the injured doctors at the hospital and her office should release a statement condemning the attack on them.

"We also want immediate intervention of the chief minister. Documentary evidence of judicial enquiry against the inactivity of the police to provide protection to the doctors at the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital on Monday night should also be provided," he said.

Two junior doctors were assaulted on Monday night by family members of a patient who died in the NRS Hospital.

"We demand documentary evidence and details of action taken against those who had attacked us," Dutta said.

They also demanded unconditional withdrawal of all "false cases and charges" which were imposed on junior doctors and medical students across West Bengal in the wake of their strike.

They also stressed on their demand for improvement of infrastructure in all health facilities as well as posting of armed police personnel there.                             [Agencies]

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) A 19-year-old man, arrested for allegedly killing his parents and sister, was addicted to online game PUBG and had rented a room in Mehrauli where he spent time with his friends after bunking classes, said a senior police officer.

Suraj alias Sarnam Verma allegedly killed his father Mithilesh, mother Siya and sister in the early hours on Wednesday and then ransacked the house to make it look like robbery. However, he was arrested later in the evening on Wednesday.

The officer said the accused showed no signs of remorse and he constantly kept saying, 'please save me from the law'.

His family members were cremated today but his relatives did not request the court to allow Suraj to complete the last rites. Mithilesh's brother and nephew carried out the last rites, he added.

During investigation, the police found that Suraj had a Whatsapp group comprising nine to 10 friends, including girls, where they would talk about bunking classes and made other plans about hanging out, the officer said.

"His friends idolised him and considered him an icon. He had rented a room in Mehrauli along with his friends. At the room, they had a TV set and on the day he did not want to attend classes, he would stay at the room from 7 am to 6 pm and play online game PUBG," said the officer.

He said around nine to 10 friends of Suraj have been asked to join the investigation.

The officer added that the family members told the police that they always felt Suraj was a "quiet and nice" fellow but neighbours said they would hear noises from the house and there were frequent quarrels in the family over Suraj's behaviour.

Suraj was rebuked for flying kites on Independence Day by his family members, which is what made him hatch a plan to teach them a lesson.

He was holding a grudge since his parents raised an objection about his lifestyle and his disinterest in studies.

He had flunked his Class 12 exams and was scolded by them.

"He felt he failed his Boards since his father had asked him to supervise the construction of their house. He was upset about being blamed," said the officer privy to the probe.

Police said his father had got him admission to a private institute in Gurgaon for a diploma in civil engineering so that he could become a contractor like him.

He was upset with his sister since he felt his parents preferred her over him and she used to "leak details about his personal life" to their parents.

Before executing the killings, he behaved normally and even saw photo albums with his parents till midnight. He woke up at 3 am and stabbed his father multiple times. Awakened by the commotion, his mother, who was sleeping in the same room, raised an alarm but he stabbed her once, police said.

He then went to his sister's room and stabbed her in the neck. His mother came there and tried to save her daughter but he stabbed her and even stabbed his sister in the stomach, they added.

He then ransacked the house and washed off his fingerprints from the knife and then alerted neighbours.

Police said a few years back, Suraj had staged a fake kidnapping and fled the home but developed cold feet after he thought how he would sustain without money.
