Lucknow, Mar 15: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav, though lauding the leadership of the party, has congratulated the party workers, people of the constituencies for victory in bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Though the leader kept mum on Wednesday when the results were announced but on Thursday he tweeted to thank the party workers.
He tweeted," Lot of congratulations to the people and party workers of Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha bypolls results. Congratulations also to the workers, good leadership and to the winning candidates. I think this win will set a milestone on the fight for social justice."
While Shivpal praised the SP leadership for the victory in the crucial Lok Sabha bypolls, he did not take the name of his nephew Akhilesh Yadav under whose leadership the party managed to defeat BJP which is currently in power in the state.
Shivpal's congratulatory tweet came several months after he was locked in a bitter struggle for power with his niece Akhilesh Yadav.
Akhilesh Yadav had called his party’s win in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-elections as a victory of social justice, saying the verdict of the people shows that the voters are angry with the BJP.
In a huge blow to the ruling BJP, the Samajwadi Party won both the Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur which were vacated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had backed its bitter rival the SP.
The SP candidate in Gorakhpur, Pravin Nishad defeated his nearest rival Upendra Dutt Shukla (BJP). In Phulpur too, the SP candidate, Nagendra Singh Patel, defeated its nearest rival Kaushlendra Singh Patel of BJP.
In 2014, the BJP stunningly won 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats while one of its allies secured two.
The SP had won from five seats and the Congress two while BSP had drawn a blank. UNI

Mainpuri, Dec 7: Talking against the party president Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav has given clean chit to the Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs) saying that if there was any such tampering then he would have not won the elections in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
"There is no proof about tampering of the EVMs and people were making wild allegations," he said.
Yadav, who was here on Wednesday night to attend a marriage function, told reporters that people are alleging tampering of the EVMs but they could not produce any evidence on such irregularities.
"If there was any tampering in the EVMs, then how I won from Jaswantnagar seat by a huge margin defeating the BJP candidate," he questioned.
The statement of Shivpal, uncle of Akhilesh Yadav, contradicts the allegations of the SP president that EVMs were tampered in favour of BJP during the assembly and the recently held mayor elections.
Akhilesh Yadav had also demanded holding of future elections through traditional ballot papers.
Talking about the recently held urban local bodies elections, he said had the party given him the responsibility of the civic elections, then the party would have won from majority of the seats.
"You can get a proof that all those candidates won, where I had campaigned and supported them," he said while holding the party's leadership responsible for the defeat.
Though maintaining that civic polls was not a semi-final before the final Lok Sabha elections of 2019, he said the party leadership should review why they fielded weak candidates in the civic polls. UNI

Lucknow, Nov 22: In a scathing remark aimed at the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party stalwart here on Wednesday said, “Not fulfilling poll promises amounts to political corruption.”
He was speaking during his 79th birthday celebrations organised by his son and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav at the party headquarters here. Mulayam Yadav was referring to the promise made by the BJP that Rs15 lakh would be deposited in the bank accounts of poor people. “During 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign, the BJP had promised Rs 15 lakh to each poor family in the country but after winning they did not keep their promise. It could be termed political corruption," he said. “If the government wanted, it could have given the money in instalments to the poor, but it failed to deliver."  In contrast, Mulayam Yadav claimed, “Samajwadi Party promised several sops during 2012 Assembly polls in UP and it fulfilled each and every one.” After cutting the 79-kg birthday cake in the presence of other senior party leaders, Yadav gave a 40-minute-long speech in which he commented on several issues, including Ayodhya. However, his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav and cousin Ram Gopal Yadav were not conspicuous by their absence at the birthday celebrations. UNI

Azamgarh, Jul 28:  Rebel Samajwadi Party MLA and former Uttar Pradesh minister Shivpal Singh Yadav today once again slammed his nephew and party president Akhilesh Yadav for sacking Mulayam Singh Yadav as the party chief in January this year. "Had Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) continued as the president of the party, no one could have defeated the SP in the assembly polls and Akhilesh Yadav would have continued as Chief Minister," he claimed. Talking to reporters here, Mr Yadav said, "Netaji has all the control over the party now too and till he is made the chief of the party no one can bring unity in the party or in the family." Announcing that he along with Netaji would take a big political decision very soon, the SP MLA from Jaswantnagar in Etawah district, said several senior party leaders are in touch with him and Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav. Azamgarh is the parliamentary constituency of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mr Shivpal Singh Yadav had earlier announced to float a Samajwadi Secular Front this month but now it has been deferred till October. However, Mr Akhilesh Yadav has too called for a national convention in Lucknow in the last week of September to ratify his presidentship. Asked about the CAG report alleging irregularities in the state PWD department in awarding the road construction tenders, Mr Shivpal Yadav said there were no irregularities during his tenure as the minister. "The previous BSP government had also probed but they found nothing against me during my tenure as PWD minister when Mulayam Singh Yadav was the CM during 2003-07. UNI
