Lucknow, Jun 24 :    BSP president Mayawati Monday asserted that her party will contest all elections in the future on its own, indicating an end of its much talked-about alliance with the Samajwadi Party. 

The announcement comes a day after the BSP supremo held a meeting with party workers to review her outfit's showing in the recent Lok Sabha polls. 

"Everyone is aware that forgetting everything of the past as also the anti-BSP and anti-Dalit decisions like reservation in promotions and bad law and order during the SP rule in 2012-2017, BSP adhered to the 'gatbandhan dharma' with the Samajwadi Party in the interest of the country," she tweeted in Hindi. 

"But SP's behaviour after the elections has forced the BSP to think, will it be possible to defeat the BJP in future, which is not possible," she said. 

"Therefore, in the interest of the party and movement, the party will contest all small and big elections on its own strength," Mayawati said in a series of tweets. 

The BSP entered into an electoral alliance with Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) and Chaudhary Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls. The alliance, however, failed to make an impact in the politically crucial state.          [Agencies]

Lucknow, Mar 24 :  Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav will contest from Azamgarh Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, which was represented by his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.

While the 79-year-old SP patriarch will contest from "safe seat" Mainpuri this time, his name was conspicuously missing from the list of 40 star campaigners of the party released here Sunday.

The Samajwadi Party also announced that senior leader Mohd Azam Khan will contest from Rampur.

The party, however, sprang a surprise by not mentioning the name of its patron Mulayam Singh Yadav in its long list of its star campaigners.

The list was released by senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav.

It included the names of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Azam Khan, Dimple Yadav and Jaya Bachchan among others, besides Ram Gopal Yadav himself.

At present, the SP patriarch represents Azamgarh constituency. He had represented Mainpuri three times earlier in 1996, 2004 and 2009. 

In the 2014 polls, Mulayam contested from two constituencies, Azamgarh and Mainpuri, and won both.

The SP has so far announced the names of 20 candidates, 19 in Uttar Pradesh and one Madhya Pradesh.

Besides Mulayam Singh and Akhilesh Yadav, other prominent candidates are Akhilesh Yadav's cousins, Dharmendra Yadav and Akshay Yadav.

While Dharmendra Yadav will fight from Badaun, Akshay Yadav will contest from Firozabad.

Dharmendra Yadav, the son of Ram Gopal Yadav, will contest again from the seat that he has won thrice, while Akshay Yadav will contest from Firozabad, from where he had won the last parliamentary elections.

The party has declared Dimple Yadav its candidate from Kannauj. 

The Samajwadi Party, the BSP and the Rashtriya Lok Dal have entered into an alliance in Uttar Pradesh for the April-May Lok Sabha polls.

The Samajwadi Party has entered a pre-poll alliance with the Mayawati-led BSP and will contest 37 of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP. 

While the BSP will contest on 38 seats, the RLD, which is also a part of the alliance, will fight from three seats. The SP-BSP-RLD alliance had left two seats for the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli.

The general election is going to start on April 11 and will continue till May 19. Polling on the 80 seats in the state will be held in seven phases. 

The Samajwadi Party and the BSP will hold a series of joint rallies for the Lok Sabha polls, with the first being on April 7 in Uttar Pradesh's Deoband town.

There will be several joint rallies in the state and besides the SP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will be also part of these public meetings, Samajwadi Party chief spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said.

The first of these joint rallies will be held in Saharanpur district's Deoband town on April 7 and will be addressed by Akhilesh Yadav, BSP chief Mayawati and RLD president Ajit Singh.                                                                                                   [Agencies]

Lucknow, Feb 21 :  The Samajwadi Party will contest 37 seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party 38 in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls, the two parties said Thursday while releasing a list of seats.

While announcing the alliance earlier, the two parties had said they will contest from 38 constituencies each out of the 80 in the state.

The two parties named the seats distributed among them in a statement signed by SP president Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati.

The 37 seats in the SP quota include Kairana, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Badaun, Bareilly, Lucknow, Etawah, Kanpur, Kannauj, Jhansi, Banda, Allahabad, Kaushambi, Phulpur, Faizabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Varanasi and Mirzapur.

The BSP will contest from Saharanpur, Bijnor, Nagina, Aligarh, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Dhaurahara, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Kaiserganj, Basti, Salempur, Jaunpur, Bhadohi and Deoria, among other constituencies.                   [Agencies]

Lucknow, Jan 11 : Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati will address a joint press meet here Saturday, amid talks of seat-sharing for Lok Sabha polls from which the Congress seems to be almost out. 


The joint press conference at a posh hotel here was announced Friday by SP national secretary Rajendra Chaudhary and Bahujan Samaj Party national general secretary SC Misra. 

The top leadership of both the parties had met in New Delhi recently to discuss broad parameters of an alliance to take on the BJP unitedly in the Lok Sabha elections. 

The joint press conference will be the first after the parties gave contours of an electoral alliance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

The two party chiefs had given their "in principle" approval to the alliance, which has virtually shut its doors to the Congress in the state. 

Sources said that both the SP and the BSP are planning to contest on 37 seats each out of the 80 on offer in Uttar Pradesh and plan to leave just two, Rae Bareli and Amethi, the bastions of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for the Congress. 

Smaller parties like the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Nishad Party are also likely to be in the alliance. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP and its allies had won 73 of the 80 seats in UP. 

Congress leaders like PL Punia, who delivered Chhattisgarh to the Congress as its state in-charge, and UPCC chief Raj Babbar are reportedly of the view that the Congress should not "be sheepish in alliance negotiations any more" and should seek its pound of flesh.

They cite the example of 2009 when the Congress romped home with 22 Lok Sabha seats in UP, surprising many prophets of doom.

They also say that with party chief Rahul Gandhi getting more "combative, direct and effective" in taking on the Modi juggernaut, the Congress stood better chances in going alone.

Over the week, Yadav and Mayawati also put out press statements that specifically referred to the word "gathbandhan". 

Mayawati's press statement was in solidarity with Yadav amid reports that the CBI might question him on investigations into a mining scam that allegedly took place when he was chief minister. "Don't be shaken," she advised him.

Yadav returned the favour when he put out a press release to condemn Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks at a rally in Agra on Mayawati, "forgetting" an attack on her by Samajwadi Party workers in 1995 for "political gains". "The PM is scared of the alliance," said Yadav.

In Agra, Modi sought to drive a wedge between the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party when he said that the two parties which could not see eye to eye were joining hands.

Last year, Yadav and Mayawati decided to bury their differences and pool in their resources to contest three bypolls and won all. It gave them hope that if they team up, they can pull voters away from the BJP. 

The mahagathbandhan arithmetic had worked in the bypolls as a consolidation of OBC, Dalit and Muslim votes powered joint opposition candidates to victory in Gorakhpur, Phulpur and Kairana last year. 

If they try to replicate their success in the 2019 national polls, it might upset the apple cart of the BJP, which recently lost three major state elections, feel analysts.

A senior BJP leader, when contacted, sought to play down the SP-BSP tie-up as "opportunistic" politics and expressed confidence that the saffron party will come out with flying colours on the plank of development as it believed in 'sab ka saath, sab ka vikas'.             PTI

In a shot in the arm for the Congress, the Samajwadi Party Wednesday announced its support to Rahul Gandhi's party to form government in Madhya Pradesh. The announcement by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav came less than an hour after Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati made a similar offer to the Congress for government formation in the Hindi heartland state of Madhya Pradesh.


New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) In a shot in the arm for the Congress, the Samajwadi Party Wednesday announced its support to Rahul Gandhi's party to form government in Madhya Pradesh.

The announcement by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav came less than an hour after Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati made a similar offer to the Congress for government formation in the Hindi heartland state of Madhya Pradesh.

"The SP supports the Congress to form government in MP," Yadav tweeted in Hindi.

The Congress, which was locked in a tantalising see-saw battle with the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, has emerged as the single-largest party with 114 seats after the vote count ended on Wednesday morning, according to the State Election Commission Office.

The party is, however, two short of the simple majority mark, 116 seats, in the 230-member Assembly. The BJP was close behind with 109 seats.

The Bahujan Samaj Party won two seats and the Samajwadi Party one. Independents bagged four seats.

Jaunpur (UP), Sep 20: Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh targeted Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav and alleged that he had "deceived" all those who were close to him.

Talking to reporters here Wednesday evening, the Independent MP, who was once an SP leader, said, "There is no one who has not been deceived by Akhilesh...It is in his nature to hurt people."

Alleging that the Samajwadi Party was pursuing politics of appeasement, Singh also lashed out at party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, a confidant of Akhilesh Yadav.

Recalling his contribution in Akhilesh Yadav's life, Singh said that he had gone to Australia for his education, got him party ticket and made him president.

Reiterating his charges against senior SP leader Azam Khan, the Rajya Sabha MP said that party was patronising a person who had a "wrong mindset" and makes indecent comments.

"Azam Khan has made indecent comments against my wife and daughters and a CD recording his remarks has been handed over to Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath...I am awaiting for action against him..if it is not done from here I will lodge an FIR in Delhi. I have confidence that the Narendra Modi-led government will do justice with me," Amar Singh added. (PTI)

Lucknow, Aug 2: The Uttar Pradesh government today warned that action will be taken against Akhilesh Yadav as he had done "some damage" while vacating the bungalow allotted to him in Lucknow as chief minister.

Government spokesperson and senior Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh referred to the manner in which Yadav indulged in "todphod" (damage) before vacating the 4, Vikramaditya Marg bungalow in June in compliance with a Supreme Court order.

"...One thing is clear, that he undertook some construction for which he did not take permission from the estates department. A law is there for this (unauthorised construction) and the law will take its course," Singh told reporters.

After Yadav had vacated the bungalow, video clips and photos had shown damage to a cycle track, on walls after air-conditioners seemed to have been removed and to the floor of what appeared to be a badminton court.

Yadav had then said it was an attempt by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to defame him.

Singh's remarks today came against the backdrop of an investigation report submitted to the state estates officer about the damage to the bungalow.

In June, Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik instructed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order a probe against the Samajwadi Party chief for leaving the government property damaged.

When Yadav became UP chief minister in 2012, he was allotted the bungalow, which he retained after his party lost the assembly election last year.

The spokesperson said Yadav should respond to the matter as he had levelled allegations against the state government and had started "playing politics" on the issue.

Singh used a Hindi saying "chor ki dadhi me tinka" which can be loosely translates in English as a guilty conscience pricks the mind.

He said rather than feeling sorry for doing something wrong, he was taking pride in it, and used another Hindi idiom "ek toh chori, upar se seena zori" to drive home his point.

Following the visuals of the damage inside the bungalow, a high level inquiry was ordered. The Public Works Department chief engineer has submitted a 266-page inquiry report to the state estates officer.

The details of the report were not immediately available. The estates officer could not be contacted immediately for comments.

The report, according to sources, is said to have estimated the damage to the government bungalow running into lakhs of rupees.

Reacting to the development, SP leader and MLC Rajpal Kashyap said: "The government has stooped to a new low. They are coming out with reports just to malign the image of the former CM. The BJP government is rattled by the coming SP-BSP and the loss in Lok Sabha bypolls. Hence, they are desperate to hamper Yadav's image." 

A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi had quashed the law, which entitled former chief ministers to retain government bungalows for a lifetime, ruling that granting further privilege violates Right to Equality under Article 14. (PTI)

Lucknow, Jun 13: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today slammed the BJP over reports of damage to the bungalow vacated by him in the state capital, terming it as a "conspiracy" by the saffron party.
"The BJP it is rattled after repeated defeats in a series of by-elections," the SP leader said at a hurriedly convened press conference here.
"It is the BJP's conspiracy," he charged.
His outburst came a day after UP Governor Ram Naik asked the state government to take action over the reported damage to the bungalow vacated by the former chief minister, calling it a serious matter involving the taxpayer's money.
In a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Governor said reports about the damage at 4, Vikramaditya Marg, were doing the rounds in the media and among the common people.
He said this was a "serious matter".
"The residences allocated to the former chief ministers belong to the Estates department and their maintenance is done through the taxpayers' money," he wrote.
"The state government needs to take proper action as per rules on the damage caused to the state's property," Ram Naik said.
The bungalow was vacated by the Samajwadi Party leader in compliance with a Supreme Court order that former chief ministers were not entitled to any government accommodation in Lucknow.
Video clips and photos had shown damage to a cycle track, on walls after air-conditioners seemed to have been removed and to the floor of what appeared to be a badminton court at the vacated bungalow.
Yadav had then said it was an attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party to defame him.
The Governor also called the Estates department officials and was told that videography had been done at the houses vacated by the former chief ministers.
After the video clips surfaced, estates department official Yogesh Kumar Shukla had said officials will check the inventory of fittings provided at the bungalow.
The department will serve a notice if there was any damage done "intentionally" or if there was anything missing, he had said.
The Samajwadi Party had termed the video clips as an attempt to tarnish Yadav's image, saying his popularity was continuously growing after the defeat of the BJP in recent bypolls.
It asked why the bungalows vacated by other former chief ministers were not shown.
As the two parties sparred, the BJP had said the damage at the bungalow reflected Yadav's "frustration".
Following the Supreme Court order, the UP estates department had issued notices to six former chief ministers - Narayan Dutt Tiwari, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Kalyan Singh, Mayawati, Rajnath Singh and Akhilesh Yadav.
Barring Congress veteran ND Tiwari, who is ailing in Delhi, all of them have now vacated their official bungalows. (PTI)

Lucknow, May 29: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav today termed as a "dangerous trend for democracy" EVMs developing snags in "areas having SP and RLD influence" and demanded that all future elections be conducted through paper ballots.
"Complaints in large numbers have been received of EVMs and VVPAT developing snags in areas where SP and RLD have good influence during yesterday's polling...it seems as if this has been done as part of a design," the SP chief told newspersons here.
The Samajwadi Party president alleged that people in large numbers could not exercise their franchise yesterday.
"Common people have also lost faith in EVMs...officials did not take the issue seriously...this is a dangerous trend for democracy," he said.
The former chief minister said his party had said it earlier too and wants to make a fresh demand that all future elections be conducted through paper ballots.
"This will strengthen democracy...I will ask other political parties, will also write to them, that all should unitedly put forth their views against EVMs...there are many countries which are ahead of India in many things but have faith in paper ballot rather than EVMs for conducting elections," the SP president said.
To a question as to whether any peoples' movement will be launched on this issue, Yadav said first he will talk to all political parties on this issue.
"Earlier when a meeting was convened on the matter, the Congress had not participated in it but they are also in favour of this now...my effort will be to first talk to all and then take decision," he stressed.
To a question, he termed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's road show on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway on May 27 near Kairana as an attempt to influence the by-election.
"The prime minister participated in a roadshow and in his speech also talked about quota within quota...we say that if you really want to give quota to backwards and most backwards then you first need to have their numbers counted and only then give them their right and honour as per their population. But, since you only wanted to influence the bypoll, you just made a mention of it (in your speech)," Akhilesh said.
To a question, the SP chief said he will contest the next Lok Sabha election but the seat will be decided by the party.
He also paid homage to former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his death anniversary today. (PTI)

New Delhi, May 28 :  Former UP chief ministers Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav today moved the Supreme Court seeking "appropriate time" for vacating their official residences allotted by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The top court had on May 7 held that former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh cannot retain government accommodation after demitting office and said that a chief minister was at par with a common man once his or her term ends.

The two former Chief Ministers had earlier moved the UP government's estate department seeking two years' time to vacate their official residences and shifting to their private accommodations in Lucknow.

In their pleas filed through advocate Garima Bajaj, they have sought appropriate time to vacate their official bungalows on various grounds.

While the plea filed by Mulayam Singh Yadav sought sufficient time from the apex court to make arrangements for alternate accommodation, the one by his son Akhilesh has urged the court to consider the security of his family.

"We are requesting the Supreme Court to grant us sufficient time to make arrangements for a suitable alternate accommodation, taking into consideration the security of the petitioner and his family members," Akhilesh said in his plea.

The pleas by the father-son duo has been filed in the backdrop of the May 7 apex court judgement that had struck down an amendment in a state legislation allowing former Chief Ministers to retain government accommodations even after demitting office.

Shortly after this verdict, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh, who were Chief Ministers earlier, had informed the estate department that they will vacate the government bungalows.

Rajnath Singh and Kalyan Singh are among the six former chief ministers who have been asked by the estate department to vacate the bungalows within 15 days in pursuance of the Supreme Court's order.

However, former UP chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati recently put up a signboard outside her official accommodation in Lucknow announcing that it was a memorial named after the party founder late Kanshiram.

The top court had passed the order on a petition filed by an NGO Lok Prahari challenging the amendments made by the erstwhile Akhilesh Yadav government to the 'UP Ministers (Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1981'.

In its order, it had observed that a Chief Minister cannot continue to occupy public property like government bungalows which belong to the people of the country and said the provision had the effect of creating a separate class of citizens for conferment of benefits by way of distribution of public property on the basis of the previous public office held by them.

The court, in its 29-page order, had said once such persons demit public office, there is nothing to distinguish them from the common man. 

The apex court had also said that in a democratic republican government, public servants, entrusted with duties of public nature, must act in a manner that reflects that the ultimate authority is vested in the citizens and it is to the citizens, that the holders of all public offices are eventually accountable.

The NGO had also challenged another UP law of 2016 called 'The Allotment of Houses under Control of the Estate Department Bill-2016' to regulate the allotment of government accommodation to trusts, journalists, political parties, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of legislative assembly, judicial officers and government officials.

The apex court had sought the UP government's response in November 2016, after the plea claimed that state government has sought to skirt the Supreme Court verdict of August 1, 2016 by amending the law.

In that verdict, the apex court had held that the practice of allotting government bungalows to former chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh was bad in law and they should hand over their possession in two months.

It had also said the state government should recover appropriate rent from the occupants of these bungalows for the period of their "unauthorised occupation".PTI

Lucknow, Apr 23: Though the party was yet to decide whether to contest the polls or not, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav will campaign for Congress in the Karnataka Assembly elections next month.
The Congress, affirming its commitment to its alliance with the SP for 2019 Lok Sabha election,
has named the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh as its star campaigner for Karnataka Assembly polls.
Along with Akhilesh Yadav , RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and NCP leader Sharad Pawar are among the star campaigners for the Congress in Karnataka assembly polls this time along with the party's own leaders. 
Surprisingly, SP and BSP are going for an alliance in UP, but in Karnataka they will go separate ways. BSP is contesting the Karnataka Assembly election in alliance with Janata Dal (Secular) led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhury said here on Monday that Akhilesh Yadav will campaign for the Congress candidates in Karnataka assembly polls." We are yet to decide on whether to field any candidate in alliance with the Congress in this elections," he said. 
Though SP has its organisational unit in Karnataka and it had asked it to decide the names of the candidates a few week ago but it now it seems that they are not contesting the Assembly election in the southern state.
S Bangarappa, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, was elected to Lok Sabha from Karnataka on Samajwadi Party ticket, a decade ago.

Lucknow, Mar 31: Scathily attacking Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said that even 'Gorakhdham mahant' post follows nepotism.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, Mr Yadav said SP was targeted for nepotism at ‘elevated road’ inauguration in Ghaziabad on Friday but those who commented should tell public how he became ‘mahant’ of Gorakhnath dham. 
Mr Yadav alleged that present ‘mahant’ and UP CM Yogi Adityanath was close relative of former mahant and his guru Awaidyanath and favourtism got the 'mahant' the present job.
Raising the ryots' deteriorating plight, SP president alleged that banks were recovering money from farmers even after loan waiver by state government.Citing an example, he said," farmer Madan Lal Pandey had loan of Rs 58,682 on his head which he had taken from State Bank of India. UP government provided him a loan waiver certificate despite that bank deducted the loan amount from his account when Rs 65,000 were credited in his account.
Mr Yadav said ," Mr Pandey showed certificates to authorities but no one helped him."
Another village chief said ," about 35 farmers were facing same hardships after money was decredited from their accounts. He alleged that BJP government never keeps its promises and its claims to be farmer-friendly were fake.
'Yogi government had announced to waive off loans upto Rs 1 lakh of 86 lakh farmers and budget of Rs 36,000 crore was allotted for the same' , said Mr Akhilesh. Mr Yadav also alleged that 27 farmers committed suicide seeking government’s help for loan waiver. 
He also charged that Yogi government failed to provide jobs and was defaming senior SP leader Azam Khan who provided jobs to youths intentionally for political gains.
Mr Akhilesh also attacked the Yogi government for threatening Opposition party’s leaders by unleashing "CBI and ED" fear . He said that BJP was inaugurating development projects initiated during SP government's tenure to seize credit. UNI

Ahmedabad, Dec 8: Former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday cautioned voters in Gujarat not to fall into 'BJP trap' and said the saffron party has dethroned him by "telling lies and spreading falsehood".
"Yeh jahan gaye, sirf jhoot bolen (Wherever BJP leaders went, they only spoke lie and spread falsehood)," Mr Yadav told a press conference here.
He said, "It is only by telling lies they have dethroned Samajwadi Party and taken away my chair".
The Samajwadi Party chief, who has fielded four candidates for Gujarat polls this year, said, "Wherever they went and whom so ever they met, they told them that leaders from their castes would be made Chief Minister. They told this to even smaller caste people and see ultimately whom we have got as the Chief Minister in Uttar Pradesh".
To a question whether he was here in Gujarat on the eve of first phase of polling to tell voters to back Congress candidates, Mr Akhilesh Yadav said, "We have said people should opt for a secular party. Moreover, as a young leader I feel happy that young leaders are bringing in change in Gujarat - like Hardik Patel, Alpesh Thakore and Jignesh Mevani. They all are working with Congress".
The former UP Chief Minister said the development model of Gujarat as hyped by BJP leaders do not make much sense as "I could not find Vikas (development) any where".
"I traveled in rural areas and found roads in very bad shape," he said.
To a question, Mr Yadav said, "the day is not far off when there will be huge number of socialists in Gujarat too and they will be moving around on bicycles".
The former UP Chief Minister said the BJP leaders only made propaganda about Sabarmati River Front, but the river front in Lucknow along river Gomti is the "best" in the country. UNI

Mainpuri, Dec 7: Talking against the party president Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav has given clean chit to the Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs) saying that if there was any such tampering then he would have not won the elections in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
"There is no proof about tampering of the EVMs and people were making wild allegations," he said.
Yadav, who was here on Wednesday night to attend a marriage function, told reporters that people are alleging tampering of the EVMs but they could not produce any evidence on such irregularities.
"If there was any tampering in the EVMs, then how I won from Jaswantnagar seat by a huge margin defeating the BJP candidate," he questioned. 
The statement of Shivpal, uncle of Akhilesh Yadav, contradicts the allegations of the SP president that EVMs were tampered in favour of BJP during the assembly and the recently held mayor elections.
Akhilesh Yadav had also demanded holding of future elections through traditional ballot papers.
Talking about the recently held urban local bodies elections, he said had the party given him the responsibility of the civic elections, then the party would have won from majority of the seats.
"You can get a proof that all those candidates won, where I had campaigned and supported them," he said while holding the party's leadership responsible for the defeat.
Though maintaining that civic polls was not a semi-final before the final Lok Sabha elections of 2019, he said the party leadership should review why they fielded weak candidates in the civic polls. UNI

Lucknow, Nov 27: After the poll debacle early this year in Uttar Pradesh amid bickering in political stalwart Mulayam Singh Yadav’s family, serious introspection is taking place in Samajwadi Party under the leadership of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The party is re-drawing strategies to balance political equations in the changed scenario, and inducting young, educated and articulate youngsters in an effort to depart from the common perception that it was only interested in promoting people from just one caste and pampering just one section of the minority communities.
One such youngster who was recently inducted by the party is 34-year-old scion of Raja of Mahmudabad’s son Dr Ali Khan Mahmudabad.

“There is a realisation in Samajwadi Party leadership that the canvas needs to be much larger and the scope much broader. I, for one, am completely against religious politics. Lucknow, Aug 21: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati today vehemently denied tweeting a picture of herself with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav calling for opposition unity. "The tweeter account is not our official site and the entire post was malafied and derogatory," she said in a statement here. She said that the BSP always issues press statement to raise its voice on any issue and has never tweeted. "Besides, our slogan is 'Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya' while the tweet has the slogan of 'Bahujan hitaya, bahujan sukhaya' which also proves that it is not our official site'. However, in her release, Ms Mayawati did not clarify whether she will be attending the opposition rally in Patna on August 27 or not. Media reports from Delhi today said that a BSP tweet on Sunday shared a poster which says, "Samajik Nyay ke Samarthan me Vipaksh Ek Ho' with photographs of Mayawati, SP president Akhilesh Yadav, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejsvi Yadav, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Lucknow, Aug 18:  Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav today demanded that the incident of death of children at Gorakhpur BRD Medical College hospital be probed by a judge of the Supreme Court. Mr Yadav also lambasted the Yogi Adityanath government on his statement on Janmasthami. "CM Yogi Adityanath has turned into digital CM of the state as he only reacts on social media. Janamasthami is celebrated at all the police stations for the past several years but suddenly Yogi says his government has started it from this year which is not true," he said while announcing that when the SP government comes to power in UP again then they will provide Rs 5 lakh each to the police stations to celebrate religious functions, including Janmasthami, Christmas, Eid or other things. Mr Yadav also attacked the UP CM on 'namaz vs Janmashtami' comment. "Many people do a lot of celebrations on roads. UP CM will not talk about smart cities, but will talk about namaz and Janmashtami just to divide the community for his vested interest," he said. The former CM, however, refused to make any comment on the Gorakhpur children deaths incident at the government hospital but demanded that a probe by the apex court will unearth the real facts. Addressing a press conference here after the state police detained him at Unnao yesterday when he was on his way to Auriyya, the SP president had said, 'BJP is using money, police force to lure opposition leaders in Auraiya and it seems as if police has taken a Supari to ensure a BJP man as Jila Panchayat President. "The time needs a probe into the role of the CBI too to know why the Central government has so much likening for the investigating agency," he stated. Unnao, Aug 17 :  Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his hundreds of supporters, including several MLCs, were detained today when they were going to Auriyya to meet jailed party leader Pradeep Yadav. Mr Yadav tried to escape the police dragnet but failed to do so when he was detained on the Lucknow-Agra expressway in Unnao at Hasanganj toll plaza. He was later taken to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhaura along with his supporters. Police also used mild force to disperse the SP activists when they tried to go ahead with breaking security barriers. Mr Yadav, talking to reporters after his detention, alleged that the BJP government was violating the democratic norms and had stopped him from going to Auriyya to meet the party leaders. "We are slated to meet the jailed SP leaders peacefully, but the BJP government is crushing our democratic rights.' Mr Yadav started his journey to Auriyya in a cavalcade of 35 vehicles but after their detention all leaders were sent to the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dhaura. Along with the SP president, other MLCs who have been detained are Rajesh Yadav, Anand Bhadauria and around 50 senior leaders. Similarly in Kanpur too, several SP leaders, including its state president Naresh Uttam, MLA Amitabh Bajpai, MLC Sanjay Lathar, were also detained when they tried to go to Auriyya this morning. They were taken to Kanpur police lines. The SP leaders were on their way to Auriyya where yesterday major violence took place when SP leaders clashed with police during the filing of nominations for the district panchayat chairman bypolls. The SP activists had torched a vehicle of the BJP MLA after clashes broke out between the supporters of two candidates for the bypolls -- Dipu Singh of BJP and Sudhir Yadav alias Kallu Singh of SP. Later, the SP activists alleging partisan role of the police staged major violence in the area. Former SP MLA Pradeep Yadav was arrested along with other SP leaders after the violence and today Mr Yadav and other leaders had planned to go to Auriyya to meet him and other jailed leaders. UNI

Lucknow, Aug 10  : Announcing that he will attend the Mahagathbandan rally to be organised by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad in Patna on August 27, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav today said the BJP was afraid in contesting elections in the state and hence were alluring the SP MLCs to resign so that their Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and ministers can enter the legislature without any contest. "BJP which got landslide victory in the UP polls, strangely are afraid in going before the people within four months. Besides, not a single BJP MLA are ready to give up their seats for the CM or other leaders," he questioned. Talking to reporters here, Mr Yadav denying any move by the opposition in UP for unity against the BJP, said, "We will decide when time comes." But he said he would attend the Maha Gathbandan rally in Patna on August 27. Mr Yadav, however, refused to make any comment whether the two Lok Sabha by-elections scheduled to happen after the resignation of Mr Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya would see an opposition unity. "You have to wait for our response." But the SP president was critical on part of the MLCs who have resigned and joined the BJP though making a veiled attack on his father and party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav. "The MLCs resigning and joining the BJP are saying that they were forced to take such decision as I am insulting Mulayam Singh Yadav. But does this action of the MLCs do not prove that who is closer to the BJP," he questioned. When his attention was drawn on the removal of four of his confidants from the Lohia Trust by Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav recently, he tried to avoid any controversy saying, "Let such love continue in the family and party. "I was even termed as Aurangzeb by media during the dispute within the party. But now I am cautious and don't want to enter in another controversy. But people have to think if I would have been Aurangzeb, then what had happened." The former Chief Minister was, however, peeved over the act of the Yogi Adityanath government for taking away three vehicles each from the security fleet of his and Mulayam Singh Yadav. "Strangely, I was given old ambassador cars, which were used in the Mayawati's security and had run 3 lakh kilometers and our new vehicles were given to the BSP president. Now it is up to you to assess what is the politics behind it," he said. When his attention was drawn upon the Haryana incident when BJP state president son chased a woman on a car, he said BJP should not wait and act against the leader to create an example. Lucknow, Aug 2 :  Threat of being marginalised in Uttar Pradesh politics and diminished role in secular grand alliance looms large on Akhilesh Yadav, who is set to get his second term as the Samajwadi Party chief next month. Besides, rapid political events like desertion of the secular camp by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and defection of two SP MLCs to the BJP, growing proximity of his `man Friday’ and SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav with Prime Minister Narendra Modi have only added to his trouble. This was indicated during a reception hosted by SP Rajya Sabha member Naresh Agarwal in Delhi in last week of July to honour senior colleague Ram Gopal Yadav for completing 25 years in Parliament, where Akhilesh Yadav was conspicuously absent despite being invited. So was SP patriarch Mulayam Singh. Sources close to the SP president maintained that he skipped the event for obvious political reason. However, leaders, cutting across party lines, attended the reception. Political top guns like Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took time out to be present. “Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Yadav are now clearly identified as allies of the ruling alliance at Delhi —the NDA. Both have publically voted for Ramnath Kovind, the NDA candidate for Presidential poll. Mulayam will again vote for the NDA candidate for Vice-President’s election. Now Ram Gopal too is following the steps of his brothers and shifting his allegiance with the NDA. This could spell trouble for Samajwadi Party,’’ said a senior SP leader. “Akhilesh Yadav rebelled against uncle Shivpal and heaped humiliation on his father Mulayam Singh by toppling him from the post of national president of SP. This was done on the political strength and advice of his uncle Ram Gopal. Akhilesh Yadav had put everything at stake only on the strength he drew from Ram Gopal. But the same man left Akhilesh Yadav in the lurch at the most critical moment of his political life and is playing footsie with PM Modi,’’ said the SP leader. The SP sources averred, “Akhilesh Yadav is now left with two options. One, he joins the bandwagon of his father and uncles or two, go soft on the BJP or adopt an neutral posture and pursue his own brand of `aggressive secularism’ like he has been pursuing for the last five years.’’ “When a veteran leader like Bihar CM Nitish Kumar could not withstand BJP’s growing pressure, can Akhilesh Yadav be expected to undertake mission impossible,” an SP MLA said. The SP leader said, “Time is fast running out and Akhilesh Yadav has to take the critical decision. If he takes the plunge, then he may emerge as a taller leader than his father and Nitish Kumar. The present state of inertia at the top echelons of SP has almost crippled the outfit. The SP MLAs boycotted the last leg of Budget session of the Assembly but we failed to create a new narrative and send a strong message to our electorate.’’ But a clear picture would come up during the national convention of the party to be summoned in the last week of September when Akhilesh Yadav would be elected as the national president for the second time within a year though there would be pressure on him to give back the post to his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.
