Lucknow, Feb 21 :  The Samajwadi Party will contest 37 seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party 38 in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls, the two parties said Thursday while releasing a list of seats.

While announcing the alliance earlier, the two parties had said they will contest from 38 constituencies each out of the 80 in the state.

The two parties named the seats distributed among them in a statement signed by SP president Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati.

The 37 seats in the SP quota include Kairana, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Badaun, Bareilly, Lucknow, Etawah, Kanpur, Kannauj, Jhansi, Banda, Allahabad, Kaushambi, Phulpur, Faizabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Varanasi and Mirzapur.

The BSP will contest from Saharanpur, Bijnor, Nagina, Aligarh, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Dhaurahara, Sitapur, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Kaiserganj, Basti, Salempur, Jaunpur, Bhadohi and Deoria, among other constituencies.                   [Agencies]

Lucknow, Jan 12 :  Call it political compulsion or an eye on maximum number of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the coming together of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party only proves the adage that in politics, there are no permanent friends or foes. 

Once-arch rivals Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Saturday announced their tie-up in Uttar Pradesh for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, sharing 38 seats each and keeping the Congress out of the alliance.

The parties, however, said they would not field candidates in Amethi and Rae Bareli, represented by Congress president Rahul Gandhi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. They also left two seats, out of 80, for smaller allies.

The parties seem to have forgotten their two decade-old antagonism for a "political revolution" which they hope would "last long".

"I am moving ahead of the 1995 guest house incident in the interest of the country and to serve the people, who are upset with the BJP's 'anti-people' policies," BSP supremo Mayawati said Saturday at a press conference here which was also attended by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. 

"The SP-BSP tie-up is a natural alliance. Yeh lamba chaleyga, aagey bhi chaleyga, Lok Sabha chunav ke baad, UP Assembly mein bhi yeh sthayee chalega (This will last long, even beyond LS polls and in UP Assembly elections)," she said, adding it was a "political revolution".

In 1993, SP-BSP had formed an alliance to stop the BJP's winning spree after the Ram temple movement.

Then SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP founder Kanshi Ram had joined hands and succeeded in leaving a mark in the state politics by winning 167 Assembly seats. The BSP had got 67 seats and SP 109. 

The alliance, however, did not last and ended in 1995 after the infamous Meera Bai Marg guest house incident wherein SP workers misbehaved with Mayawati. 

An unruly mob of SP workers had stormed into the Meerabai Guest House here where Mayawati was huddled in a meeting with her MLAs.

Mayawati's room was vandalised, she was abused and allegedly beaten up. When the BSP MLAs failed to protect her, BJP MLA Brahm Dutt Dwivedi took her out of the guest house to safety. It was then that the BSP joined hands with the BJP to form the government in the state.

The incident had left an indelible mark in the relationship between the two parties. It was said Kanshi Ram made numerous efforts to revive the coalition, but Mayawati held the fort in her opposition to a possible tie-up.

However, 23 years later, it seems Mayawati has moved on. 

The BSP-SP came close during the parliamentary by-polls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur recently wherein the BSP supported SP candidates who succeeded in winning both the seats - Gorakhpur vacated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Phulpur by his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the SP had won five seats, while the BSP failed to win any seat. 

In the 2017 assembly polls, SP and BSP got 22 per cent votes each.

Come to 2019, if both the parties continue to have a say in their traditional vote bank, the combine can create hurdles for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In the politically-crucial Uttar Pradesh, there are about 22 per cent Dalits, 45 per cent OBCs and 19 per cent Muslims, whose vote share will be decisive in the general elections this year. 

"The SP-BSP alliance will certainly clear the dilemma of Muslim voters who are anti-BJP and with no division of their votes between SP and BSP, our alliance will get their votes in the major chunk," a senior SP leader said.

Commenting on how the new alliance will be a show stealer, SP president Akhilesh Yadav said, "The path of Delhi's power traverses through Uttar Pradesh and our alliance will be able to stop the BJP for sure. 

"The alliance with BSP was founded in my heart when the BJP conspired and got BSP candidate Bhim Rao Ambedkar defeated during the Rajya Sabha biennial polls. I had said that if I had to take two steps backward for the alliance, I will do it," he said, thanking Mayawati.

Although Akhilesh Yadav's estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav, who recently floated the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), claimed that he would emerge as a "strong force" in the polls, Mayawati asked people "not to waste their vote on his (Shivpal's) party funded by the BJP". 

"BJP's money will go down the drain as it is running Shivpal's party," she said. 

Akhilesh, however, did not comment on Shivpal's claim.               PTI

Making the announcement at a joint press conference with SP president Akhilesh Yadav here, BSP chief Mayawati said, "This...will rob 'guru-chela' -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah -- of their sleep." 

"I have full confidence that just as our alliance defeated the BJP in the Lok Sabha bypolls, we will crush the saffron party in the general elections," she said, referring to the BJP's defeat in Phulpur, Gorakhpur and Kairana parliamentary bypolls.

Explaining why the Congress was not included in the alliance, she said that during the Congress rule over the years, poverty, unemployment and corruption grew and there had been scams in various defence deals.

She also said that in case of a tie-up with the Congress in the past, the party did not benefit.

"In the past I have seen that our votes get transferred to the Congress, but not vice-versa. We do not gain from alliance with Congress, whereas vote transfer is perfect in SP-BSP tie-up," Mayawati said.

Drawing a parallel between the BJP and the Congress, Mayawati said the Congress had imposed the Emergency while the BJP is responsible for an undeclared Emergency.

The joint press conference was held at a posh hotel here after top leadership of both the parties had met in New Delhi recently to discuss broad parameters of the alliance to take on the BJP unitedly in the Lok Sabha elections.

In 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in Uttar Pradesh while its ally Apna Dal bagged two. The Samajwadi Party won 5 seats and the Congress two, while the BSP drew a blank. 

Reacting to the development, senior BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "The SP and BSP have allied neither for the country nor for Uttar Pradesh, but for their survival. They know they cannot fight Modi on their own and their opposition to him is the sole base of their alliance.             PTI

Jaunpur (UP), Sep 20: Rajya Sabha member Amar Singh targeted Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav and alleged that he had "deceived" all those who were close to him.

Talking to reporters here Wednesday evening, the Independent MP, who was once an SP leader, said, "There is no one who has not been deceived by Akhilesh...It is in his nature to hurt people."

Alleging that the Samajwadi Party was pursuing politics of appeasement, Singh also lashed out at party MP Ram Gopal Yadav, a confidant of Akhilesh Yadav.

Recalling his contribution in Akhilesh Yadav's life, Singh said that he had gone to Australia for his education, got him party ticket and made him president.

Reiterating his charges against senior SP leader Azam Khan, the Rajya Sabha MP said that party was patronising a person who had a "wrong mindset" and makes indecent comments.

"Azam Khan has made indecent comments against my wife and daughters and a CD recording his remarks has been handed over to Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath...I am awaiting for action against him..if it is not done from here I will lodge an FIR in Delhi. I have confidence that the Narendra Modi-led government will do justice with me," Amar Singh added. (PTI)

Pune, Aug 9: Internet services were suspended in Maharashtra's Pune district today to prevent rumour-mongering in view of the Maratha quota agitation, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandip Patil told the Internet services were temporarily suspended in Baramati, Shirur, Khed, Junnar, Maval, Bhor and Daund rural tehsils of the district.

The step was taken to prevent any untoward incident after violent protests were witnessed during the Maratha community's protest for reservation last month, he said.

Chakan, an industrial hub located in Khed tehsil, witnessed large-scale violence during the Maratha quota agitation on July 30, when around 70 buses were torched and damaged in the area.

Patil said there was no information of any untoward incident in the district so far.

The agitators held a sit-in protest outside the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in Baramati today.

The Sakal Maratha Samaj, an umbrella body of Maratha groups, has called for a "bandh" today across Maharashtra, except Navi Mumbai, over the community's demand for reservation in government jobs and education.

Over 7,000 police personnel have been deployed in the city, along with some companies of the State Reserve Police Force and Rapid Action Force, to maintain law and order, Pune Commissioner of Police Venkatesham K said.

He added that the pro-reservation Maratha groups had earlier said they would stage peaceful protests at the collector's office.

The police official urged the citizens to carry on with their daily routine.

Fearing violence during the bandh, Pune Collector Naval Kishore Ram issued an order yesterday that schools and colleges will remain shut today.

A release issued by the collectorate earlier had said 70 to 80 vehicles were torched and damaged in the Chakan area during the violence on July 30.

"Two school buses were also torched and the lives of students were endangered," it had said.

"Even if there is no untoward incident during the protest, roads might be blocked and we do not want students to be inconvenienced and parents to be anxious unnecessarily," the collector said.

In view of the bandh, a majority of the commercial units in the Chakan industrial area have also decided to remain closed today.

"There are over 1,000 companies in the Chakan MIDC area and a majority of them have decided to keep their plants shut," Chakan police station's senior inspector Santosh Girigosavi had said yesterday. (PTI)

Diphu/Guwahati, Jun 13: The prime accused in the lynching case of two men in Assam was arrested from Karbi Anglong district in the early hours today, a senior police officer said.
With this, the total number of people arrested in connection with the lynching of the two men and spreading hate messages and rumours following the incident in Karbi Anglong district on Friday has risen to 64, the officer said.
Karbi Anglong Police arrested the prime accused, Joz Timung alias 'Alpha', from Belurghat area under the jurisdiction of the same Dokmoka Police Station where the incident had taken place, Superintendent of Police S P Ganjala said.
Timung was allegedly responsible for asking villagers over phone to stop the vehicle carrying the two men and spreading rumours of them being child lifters, the SP said.
The police had launched a massive search operation to nab him but he was constantly on the move and was finally apprehended early this morning, he said.
Timung is a resident of Kangthilangso village where the two men had gone on Friday last.
Two friends - Nilotpal Das (29) and Abhijeet Nath (30) - were on Friday pulled out of their vehicle at Panjuri in Karbi Anglong district and beaten to death by a group of irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has decided to give Rs five lakh each to the parents of the two deceased men and also install their statues at the place where they were lynched, KAAC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang said.
The Council, which held a meeting with media, government officials and prominent citizens at Diphu last evening, condemned the incident.
Ronghang said Karbis are a part and parcel of Assam and many tribal and non-tribals live in Karbi Anglong autonomous area, forming a greater Assamese society.
The Karbi Students' Association (KSA) and Karbi Sahitya Sabha, which met here under the aegis of the Asam Sahitya Sabha in Guwahati yesterday, have condemned the lynching. (PTI)

KUPWARA, JUNE 06: Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Rahul Yadev, today convened a meeting of officers to review the arrangements for the annual "Kheer Bhawani Mela" which will be celebrated across the valley on June 20, 2018.
Besides prominent citizens of Tikker and representatives of Pandit fraternity, the meeting was attended by AD Food Kupwara, Tehsildar, Dy SP Traffic and other concerned
 The meeting was informed that the Mela will be celebrated at Tikker in Kupwara.
Threadbare discussions were held on lodging, STP work, construction of pre-fab sheds, repairing of dormitory and lavatory blocks, sanitation, barricading, fool-proof security, and general face-lifting in and around of the festival temples.  
The ADC directed the concerned departments for making necessary arrangements for uninterrupted power and drinking water supplies, transport, security, fire tenders, ration, bedding, medical camps, additional accommodations besides ensuring road repairs and medical facilities at the temples where Mela Kheer Bhawani will be celebrated.
He directed the concerned to install a control room in the premises of the festival venues and disseminate the contact numbers to the media for publicity so that the devotees are facilitated.

Shillong, Jun 2: Curfew continued in parts of Shillong for the second day today after night-long violence during which a mob torched a shop, a house and damaged at least five vehicles besides injuring a senior police officer.
Superintendent of Police (City) Stephan Rynjah sustained injuries after he was hit by a rod and has been admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital, a senior police officer on duty said.
At least 10 people, including policemen, have been injured in the violence, which has triggered demands that the government take action against alleged illegal settlers in the area.
State police personnel were attacked by stone pelters in the restive Motphran area of the city.
Teargas shells were used to disperse rioters but people in other parts mistook it for police firing, the officer said.
The clashes had begun after a bus handyman was allegedly assaulted by a group of residents of Them Metor area on Thursday afternoon. 
Trouble escalated when rumours spread on social media that the handyman had succumbed to injuries, prompting a group of bus drivers to converge at Them Metor. The police had to fire teargas shells to disperse them, officials siad.
The handyman and three injured persons were taken to a hospital where they were released after being administered first aid.
The East Khasi Hills district authorities had imposed night curfew in the entire city from 10 pm till 5 am to maintain peace and prevent arson, they said.
One person, accused of being involved in the assault of three local boys, has been arrested and the police are looking for his accomplices, they said.
Internet services continued to remain suspended to prevent spreading of rumours. The state government will review the decision later today.
The curfew, which was imposed since 4 am yesterday in at least 14 localities under Lumdiengjri police station and Cantonment Beat House, continues, District deputy commissioner P S Dkhar told PTI.
He said that there was no curfew in Police Bazaar and Iew Duh (Bara Bazaar) areas even as shops, schools and banks in these areas remained closed.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who chaired a high-level meeting yesterday, had appealed for calm and urged the people to help bring back normalcy in Shillong.
Meanwhile, several groups including the Khasi Students Union (KSU), the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and the Hynniewtrep Youth Council demanded that those involved in the assault of local boys be punished and the illegal settlers at Them Metor evicted.
"We demand that the government arrest those involved in the assault of the sons and nephew of the bus driver. The government should also compensate the three victims," KSU president Lambok Marngar told.
The KSU leader also said that the government should evict illegal settlers at Them Metor which is adjacent to IewDuh.
"Them Metor has become a den for anti-nationals and it is sad that several governments in the past have not taken initiatives to evict them and provide them space somewhere else," said FKJGP president Wellbirth Rani. (PTI)

Agartala, May 8: A 40 yrs old Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan committed suicide in Agartala this morning after killing his wife and two children by his service weapon at home.
The incident triggered serious tension in Subhasnagar area in southern locality of the city.
Police made extra deployment to restore normalcy and civil administration was requested to mobilise plain cloth security forces to regain the confidence of the people on armed personnel.
The shooting comes just two days after a young BSF jawan committed suicide after shooting dead three of his colleagues in North Tripura.
Police said TSR 1st battalion jawan Manik Ghosh went berserk in the early morning and shot dead his wife Ratna Ghosh (34) in the kitchen and son Dipraj Ghosh (10) and daughter Ipsita Ghosh (4) on the breakfast table. His father and younger brother narrowly escaped from his bullets.
According to report, Manik went to battalion headquarter at Gakulnagar in around 0530 hrs and returned home around 0645 hrs in civil dress with an SLR.
He had joined the service as Rifleman about 16 years ago, but after an accident he was shifted to non-armed duty for past few years.
Police said the initial investigations revealed that the incident was the fall out of a marital squabble.
The local residents revealed that the couple had been quarreling over an alleged extra marital affair of Manik's wife. The tiff had compelled his father to separate the two in the same house.
The couple was also quarreling last night, but were stopped by the intervention of the other family members.
Early in the morning, Manik went out when others were asleep and came back when Ratna was preparing breakfast in the kitchen and both the children were waiting for their father on the breakfast table. Manik parked his motorbike in the gate and entered into the kitchen with the SLR and shot his wife on head from a close distance, said Sujoy Ghosh, the next door neighbour of the family.
He added, immediately, he shot two more bullets on his children’s heads from point blank range. In the meantime, his younger brother and father came to prevent him. Manik targeted the gun towards them and they laid flat against a wall. Then, he shot himself in the head.
However, SP (West) Ajit Pratap Singh said that police was investigating the case from a different angle, including how Manik managed to bring the SLR to his home, that too, early in the morning, being a non-armed personnel, apart from the role of his family members in the incident.
Police and TSR contingent reached the spot soon after the incident.
Police said fear gripped the locality and few people ran away from their homes, while some others kept behind their doors.
The civil administration took steps to restore normalcy in the area and has gradually started withdrawing armed personnel, said SDM Sadar Tapan Das. UNI

New Delhi, Apr 23: Congress on Monday said it will consult legal experts on Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu rejecting the impeachment notice issued against the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. 
Party sources said the Congress and other opposition parties would consult legal experts on the matter.
The Rajya Sabha chairman had earlier on Monday rejected the notice due to lack of merit. 
Seven opposition had parties on Friday, given to the Rajya Sabha chairman, a notice for impeachment of the Chief Justice of India signed by as many as 64 Parliamentarians (MPs). 
They include MPs from the Congress, the NCP, CPM, the CPI, the SP, the BSP and the Muslim League.
Article 124(4) of the Constitution lays down the procedure for removal of a judge of the Supreme Court, including the CJI, who can be impeached on grounds of "misbehaviour or incapacity". 
A removal motion signed by 100 members of Lok Sabha or 50 members of Rajya Sabha has to be submitted to the Speaker of the Lower House or Chairperson (ie Vice-President) of the Upper House. This can be in either House of Parliament. The Speaker/Chairperson can then either accept or reject the motion. UNI

Lucknow, Apr 19: All the 13 candidates, including 10 of the ruling BJP, have been declared elected unopposed in the biennial polls to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Thursday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his two Deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma greeted the newly-elected members at the Vidhan Bhawan after the announcement was made at 1500 hrs after the end of the withdrawals.
Returning Officer Ashok Choubey said all the 13 candidates have been declared elected.
However, these new members will take the oath of the council after the present members' term expires on May 5.
The elected members are UP Ministers Mahendra Singh and Mohsin Raza, Vijay Bahadur Pathak, Dr Sarojni Agarwal, Ashok Kataria, Vidya Sagar Sonkar, Jaiveer Singh, Yashwant Singh, Ashok Dhawan and Bhukkal Nawab(All of the BJP), Ashish Singh Patel( Apna Dal), Naresh Uttam(SP) and B R Ambedkar( BSP).
The Apna Dal candidate was supported by the BJP in the elections. Mr Ambedkar of the BSP had contested the biennial Rajya Sabha polls too as a joint opposition candidate last month, but lost to BJP member Anil Agarwal in the second preferential vote. UNI

Lucknow, Mar 29: The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday ordered to mention the full name of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar in records of every government office. 
Government sources here said that instructions have been forwarded to all government offices, ensuring that the records have full name of Dr Ambedkar, which include his father Ramji's name as middle name.
The Yogi government had instructed to install pictures of Dr Ambedkar in government offices. The Opposition has launched attack on government over the instructions, saying that it was an attempt to lure the Dalits. 
Samajwadi Party (SP) state president Naresh Uttam said BJP has not done anything for Dalits, but with the name of Dr Ambedkar, it wants to take political gains. 
He claimed that Dalits will not fall prey to BJP's propaganda and vote for the parties, who have done subsequent works for them. UNI

Lucknow, Mar 26: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Monday alleged that worried over the Samajwadi Party-BSP alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was using Dr B R Ambedkar’s name for political gains.
Addressing the media here, Ms Mayawati said Dr Ambedkar’s name in the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was a political drama to gain the votes of Dalits. Bharatiya Janata Party and its government has done enough drama for Dalits and backwards but now public has realised the truth. 
The BSP president said the personality of Dr Ambedkar was humanitarian and impartial which cannot be a reality in BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh rule. She said the ideology of BJP and RSS was against the Constitution, caste and community. 
She said public did not rely on them for long and now in the BJP rule, Dalits and backwards were lagging behind in all sectors.
Speaking about demonetisation and GST, Ms Mayawati said poor had to face many troubles. She said decision of alliance with SP, was for the welfare of all and it was welcomed by public across the country.
Ms Mayawati said Opposition parties, including BSP and SP, have to stop BJP to gain the power at the Centre again. 
She said poor, workers and farmers have seen real face of BJP who had gained 31 per cent votes in the last Lok Sabha elections. 'BJP governments always ignored the plights of poor, farmer and Dalits,' added she. UNI

Lucknow, Mar 15: Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav, though lauding the leadership of the party, has congratulated the party workers, people of the constituencies for victory in bypolls in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.
Though the leader kept mum on Wednesday when the results were announced but on Thursday he tweeted to thank the party workers.
He tweeted," Lot of congratulations to the people and party workers of Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha bypolls results. Congratulations also to the workers, good leadership and to the winning candidates. I think this win will set a milestone on the fight for social justice."
While Shivpal praised the SP leadership for the victory in the crucial Lok Sabha bypolls, he did not take the name of his nephew Akhilesh Yadav under whose leadership the party managed to defeat BJP which is currently in power in the state.
Shivpal's congratulatory tweet came several months after he was locked in a bitter struggle for power with his niece Akhilesh Yadav. 
Akhilesh Yadav had called his party’s win in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-elections as a victory of social justice, saying the verdict of the people shows that the voters are angry with the BJP. 
In a huge blow to the ruling BJP, the Samajwadi Party won both the Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur which were vacated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had backed its bitter rival the SP. 
The SP candidate in Gorakhpur, Pravin Nishad defeated his nearest rival Upendra Dutt Shukla (BJP). In Phulpur too, the SP candidate, Nagendra Singh Patel, defeated its nearest rival Kaushlendra Singh Patel of BJP.
In 2014, the BJP stunningly won 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats while one of its allies secured two.

Agartala, Mar 13: Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura Akhil Kumar Shukla 
on Tuesday reiterated that zero tolerance to criminals has been adopted by the new 
government of the state and directed all Superintendents of Police (SP) of eights districts to expedite arrests of all the anti-social elements and law violators irrespective of political colour.
DGP told media that till now, a total number of 35 accused persons involved in various crimes were arrested from different parts state during last few days and all SPs were directed to take immediate steps to execute the orders.
He warned all the law violators in the state to ends their all illegal activities and If they do not leave those activities then state police will take stringent measures to control such illegal activities while warned police officials at all level not to work in biased manner or else, they will face dire consequences.
“A war has been declared now against crime and criminals,” he mentioned adding that 
the newly sworn Chief Minister wanted to clean up all bad names of police and to establish rule of law. UNI

Etawah, Mar 7: Comptroller and Auditor General of India has asked for documents related to land acquisition and details of funds provided to Agra-Lucknow expressway made in Samajwadi Party (SP) government tenure.
Additional district magistrate Jitendra Kushwaha here on Wednesday said that Director Land Acquisition department has written to 32 district magistrates, including Etawah, to provide all details of land provided to Agra-Lucknow express along with land acquisition details.
Farmers here in Etawah district had demanded circle rates equivalent to Saifai for their lands acquired for Lucknow-Agra expressway. Some political parties played an important role to raise the voice of farmers to get more compensation for their lands.
Yogi Adityanath government announced CAG scrutiny of land acquisitions made during Akhilesh Yadav government’s tenure following which documents related to land acquired for the expressway were summoned. 
A gazette was published in 2012 acquisition of 315 hectare land from Mohabbatpur, Mainpuri to Kathautiya, Auraiya for 40 kilometre Agra-Lucknow expressway.
Lands were acquired from 116 villages for expressway but villagers from Chaubiya, Takha and Bharthana had strongly opposed against the acquisition of their lands as government provided Rs 1.29 crore per hectare compensation for lands in Saifai, while Chaubiya got Rs 8 lakh per hectare and in Bharthana Rs 11 lakh per hectare was paid while it was announced Rs 30 lakh per hectare.
Besides Agra-Lucknow expressway other projects initiated during 2012 to 2017, were under scanner and documents related to them were asked to submit. During these five years major projects initiated were Etawah-Mainpuri four lane, SSP crossing to Yamuna bridge four lane, cycle track from Etawah to Agra construction. 
Kisan Sabha regional general secretary Mukut Singh Yadav said that he had started protest against land acquisition in 2012. Compensation in Safai was huge at the name of Development Authority but farmers in Chaubiya and Bharthana got nominal amount. Karachi, Jan 22:  The top Pakistani authrities have decided to arrest Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar in in connection with the Naqeebullah Mehsud extra-judicial murder. 
A meeting presided over by Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Additonal Inspector General (IG) Sanaullah Abbasis on Sunday took the decision to this effect.
Mehsud was gunned down last week in Karachi by Rao Anwar-led police over alleged terror activities however, preliminary probe revealed that Mehsud was killed in cold blood and had no terror links.
Sindh Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) sacked Malir SSP following the incident and reportedly, authorities have moved to arrest the alleged perpetrator.
CTD Additonal IG-led meeting agreed to arrest Anwar and the personnel involved and transfer Station House Officers (SHO) of District Malir.
The meeting resolved to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspended officer and the personnel involved. Reportedly, the meeting decided to have Investigation Wing Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Qaimkhani lead the probe.
On the other hand, forensic tests of the weapons that Anwar claimed to have seized from Mehsud’s possession reveal that the weaponry was never used.
Reportedly, Rao Anwar has denied to appear before the inquiry committee and refuted the news that three police have recorded their statements against him.
In what came as an important development in slain Najeeb’s case, an imprisoned operative of an outlawed organisation denied knowing the person.

Lucknow, Dec 1: With mixed results in urban local bodies elections in Uttar Pradesh, except for 16 mayoral posts, the ruling BJP was, by and large, leading in municipality wards, municipal corporations and town panchayats.
The mayor’s seat in the prestigious Ayodhya-Faizabad municipal corporation was bagged by BJP and the Mathura-Vrindavan and Moradabad mayoral seats, too, went to BJP kitty, according to initial reports. Mukesh Arya won the Mathura-Vridavan seat, while Vinod Agarwal won Moradabad mayoral seat. In Saharanpur, Sanjeev Walia romped home in mayoral contest.
In the counting for mayoral elections, BJP candidates were leading in Agra, Allahabad, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Ferozabad and Moradabad while BSP candidates were ahead of their rivals in Jhansi and Meerut.
A report from Faizabad said that BJP mayoral candidate Rishikesh Upadhaya had won the election by defeating his nearest SP candidate, a transgender, Gulshan Bindu by around 4,500 votes.
In Ayodhya-Faizabad municipal corporation, BJP got the majority by winning 32 out of the total 60 seats at stake. UNI

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 24: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, today convened a meeting to discuss measures for traffic decongestion in the City Centre.
SP Traffic City, VC Srinagar Development Authority besides senior officers from Police and SMC attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the DC sought suggestions to improve the traffic flow and discussed measures that can be taken to ensure sustainable decongestion of the city centre.
The meeting also discussed the need for creating more parking spaces in the City centre.
It was said that possibilities will be explored for a parking space at the erstwhile Government Press Building on MA Road.
Dr. Shah, while speaking on the occasion, said no roadside encroachment by vendors will be allowed in the city centre, instructing the concerned to ensure there are no violations.
The DC also sought a feasibility report for setting up a cross-over opposite the mechanized car parking at MA Road.

Shimla, Nov 23: In Gudiya rape and murder case, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here on Thursday extended judicial custody of nine arrested officers of Himachal Pradesh police as they were produced in the court after two days of judicial lock- up.
Nine police officers, including IG south range ZH Zaidi, SP DW Negi and DSP Manoj Joshi would be produced in the CJM court of Rajneet Singh. The court decided to extend their judicial custody till November 25. Mr Zadi, Mr Negi, Mr Joshi, SHO Rajinder Singh, ASI Deep Chand, Head constable Surat Singh, Mohan Lal, Rafik Ali and Constables Ranjeet were in judicial custody on the charge of murdering an alleged accused Suraj in the Gudiya rape case. Mr Negi was taken in police lockup for five days on November 16. The other eight were arrested on August 28 and now in judicial lockup. The CBI is probing the case of Gudiya rape and murder case and the agency is yet to arrest the real culprit in the main case. The CBI is likely to file charge sheet before November 30 against nine police officers who were arrested for murder of Suraj, the accused in Gudiya case who was killed during police remand at Kotkhai police station on July 18. The role of nine police officers came under the CBI as one of duty police officers and 'santry' disclosed that he was not killed by the alleged co accused of Gudiya rape-murder case Rajinder alias Raju as police booked him on July 19 for the incident. Mr Zaidi who was head of police SIT and former SP Shimla Negi were also being probed for covering up the case as forged FIR was registered on the behest of Negi. The CJM court hearing the CBI plea, will take the voice samples of eight SIT members court and had fixed November 25 as the next date to consider their plea. Counsels for the SIT members did not appear before the court, alleging that they were barred by district bar association from appearing in the case and they would appear in the court after getting no objection certificates from the district bar. The body of minor girl who studied in 10th standard in Kotkahi government school, was recovered from a forest on July 6 this year. She was reportedly kidnapped by the accused on July 4 when she was returning from school. Later, state police confirmed that she was gang rapped and murdered by accused who were away from the police reach so far. State police constituted SIT to probe the crime and booked six people, including deceased Suraj, as most of them belonged to Nepal and Uttarakhand. The CBI probe against the eight police accused did not find their involvement in the crime and after 90 days of judicial remand, they were released on bail. UNI
