New Delhi, Dec 11 : In a suspected case of road rage, a 34-year-old man was allegedly shot dead following a quarrel after his car collided with a scooter in Shahdara's Geeta Colony area, police said on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Sushil Chauhan, a resident of New Usmanpur, they said.
Police said the incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Monday and they were informed about it the deceased's friend Karthik Kashyab who was also present there.
The accused are yet to be identified.
Chauhan was returning home with his friends after having dinner at a restaurant in Geeta Colony. When they reached near Geeta Colony flyover, their car collided with a scooter while taking a turn, a senior police officer said.
An argument erupted between them after which the scooter rider open fire at Chauhan and fled from the spot. Chauhan sustained a bullet injury in his thigh, the officer said.
Chauhan was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital by his friends where he was declared brought dead by the doctor. He died due to the excessive bleeding, the officer said.
There were six persons in the car including three women. As of now, it is a suspected to be a matter of road rage and no personal enmity angle was found, Meghna Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) said.
A case has been registered and the matter is being probed, the officer said.
Police said no CCTV footage was found installed near the spot. However, the other occupants of the car did not sustain any injury.
The statement of the victims have been taken. The victim's have alleged involvement of two men in the attack, police said.
The body will be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem.
The deceased Chauhan, a tailor by profession was survived by his wife and a daughter. PTI
Jalaun (UP), Aug 1: Two people, including a woman, were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Sandhi village of Aata area here, the police said today.
The incident took place post midnight.
Some unidentified assailants opened fire at Azad (50), killing him on the spot. Geeta (48), one of his family members, was shot dead while chasing the assailants with others, Superintendent of Police (SP) Amrendra Kumar Sengar said.
According to eyewitnesses, there were three attackers and they fled after firing in the air.
The reason behind the attack on Azad is not yet known.
The victims' bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the SP said. (PTI)
Bhind (MP), Jul 31: Two persons were shot dead and as many others injured when armed men opened fire at them while they were returning from a court hearing, said a police official today.
The incident, which took place near here last evening, appears to be fallout of a land dispute, he said.
Four assailants, armed with pistols and riding two motorcycles, opened fire at the victims, all related to each other, from a close range near a private school on Bhind by-pass road.
The attack left two persons, Anil (20) and Radhe (28), dead on the spot, said Rudolf Alvares, Superintendent of Police (SP).
The deceased were close relatives and on way to their village Virgavan after a court hearing when they were attacked. Their two close relatives, who were following them, suffered injuries in the incident and referred to Gwalior for treatment, the SP said.
Police have formed a team to nab the assailants, said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gurukaran Singh.
The family members of the deceased have filed a police complaint naming four people, who they claimed, were involved in the attack, Singh said
The police have registered a murder case against them, he said, adding further probe was on. (PTI)
Baghpat (UP), July 9: Dreaded gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi was shot dead inside the district jail here today, the police said.
He was brought here from Jhansi jail yesterday and was to be produced in a local court today in a case for demanding extortion money from BJP MLA Lokesh Dixit.
Bajrangi was also named in the killing of former BJP legislator Krishnanad Rai.
According to ADG Prision Chandraprakash, four jail personnel, including the deputy jailor, have been suspended following the incident.
The gangster's wife had recently in a press conference alleged that conspiracies were being hatched to kill her husband. (PTI)
Mumbai, Jul 5: A 33-year-old businessman was shot dead by two unidentified persons in the neighbouring Navi Mumbai township, a police official said today.
The motorcycle-borne assailants fired at Shantaram Khatal, who owned a battery business, with a gun when he along with a relative was at the gate of his housing society in Kamothe area around 9.30 pm yesterday, he said.
The assailants also attacked Khatal with some sharp- edged weapons, the official at the Kamothe police station said, adding that his relative escaped unhurt.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead before admission, he said.
Based on a complaint filed by Khatal's relative, the Kamothe police registered an offence under IPC section pertaining to murder, he said.
The exact reason behind the killing was yet to ascertained, the official said.
A search was on for the assailants, he added. (PTI)
Kanpur (UP), June 28 : A Dalit engineering student was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne assailants at Raghan road here, the police said today.
Shabnam Gautam (19) was on way her home in Dara Nevada in Shivrajpur on her scooty when the bike-borne men chased her and shot her in the neck at a a close range yesterday, Station House Officer (Billhaur), Gyan Singh said.
The girl was taken to a hospital where she died during treatment.PTI
