Baghpat (UP), Oct 5: A microlight aircraft of the Indian Air Force Friday crashed in Ranchad village here, with both pilots ejecting safely, police said.

The crash took place at 9.45 am when the ML-130 aircraft took off from the Hindon air base, Superintendent of Police Shailesh Kumar Pandey said.

District Magistrate R Kumar said the plane nosedived.

Baghpat (UP), July 9: Dreaded gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi was shot dead inside the district jail here today, the police said.

He was brought here from Jhansi jail yesterday and was to be produced in a local court today in a case for demanding extortion money from BJP MLA Lokesh Dixit.

Bajrangi was also named in the killing of former BJP legislator Krishnanad Rai.

According to ADG Prision Chandraprakash, four jail personnel, including the deputy jailor, have been suspended following the incident.

The gangster's wife had recently in a press conference alleged that conspiracies were being hatched to kill her husband.

Baghpat, Sept 14: At least 28 people, mostly labourers, drowned after their boat capsized in Yamuna river in this district of Uttar Pradesh today. District Magistrate Bhawani Singh told UNI here that 20 bodies have been recovered so far and divers are searching for eight to nine more bodies. Mr Singh said the boat, carrying around 60 labourers from Baghpat to Haryana, was overloaded and it capsized on the UP-Haryana border. Around 15 people were rescued too by the local people while among the deceased several are women. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of the people in the tragedy. He has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2-lakh each to the families of the deceased. The Chief Minister has also directed district officials to provide all assistance to the victims' families. Inspector General of Police (Meerut Zone) Ram Kumar, along with other officials are camping on the spot. The incident occurred near Katha village under Kotwali Police Station area of the district. Most of the victims are native of Katha and its nearby village. UNI


Baghpat, Aug 29 :  District authorities have fully vacated the Barnawa ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda here, soon after the Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted. Though the entire 750 bigha large ashram was vacated last night itself, some sevadars have been allowed to stay inside to take care of the cows and agriculture field. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ajay Kumar said today the Barnawa Ashram of Dera Saccha Sauda is the second largest ashram of the Dera after Sirsa in Haryana. He said after the chief of the Dera, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh had been convicted on Friday last, several devotees came here to stay but they were sent to their homes and now just around 20 sevadars are left to take care of the cows and agriculture fields. However, a strong contingent of police has been deployed at the ashram. The ASP said all the sevadars have been issued photo identity cards so that no one other than the sevadar enter the ashram. The ashram is situated on the Meerut-Baraut Highway where there are large plantations of different fruits and vegetables. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh used to address his devotees in this ashram on first Sunday of every month and generally attended by people from Haryana, Delhi and other districts of UP. Though in the past the villagers of the nearby areas protested against some suspicious activities inside the ashram. A few years back an under construction building inside the ashram had collapsed in which several labourers were killed. But the ashram authorities had covered up the issue. UNI
