SRINAGAR, JUNE 13:   Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, reviewed the arrangements being made for the Yatra which is scheduled to commence on 28th June, 2018.Shri Umang Narula,  Principal Secretary to Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board; Shri Bhupinder Kumar, Addl. CEO; Shri R. K. Pandita, General Manager (Works) SASB and other concerned officers attended the review meeting held today at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar. 
Shri Narula informed Governor that till now 1,91,073 Yatris have secured Advance Registration through the designated branches of Punjab National Bank, JK Bank and YES Bank and, besides, under the Group Registration facility and registration facility for Ex-India pilgrims. This number includes 17,208 Yatris who have obtained helicopter tickets till 12th June, 2018.
Governor reviewed the to-date position regarding all issues relating to the restoration of the tracks on both the routes and installation of safety railings at the various identified vulnerable stretches, particularly the Railpathri-Brarimarg-Kali Mata track. The Governor was informed about the logistical facilities being arranged for the Yatra, particularly those relating to  power, water supply and medical facilities in the entire Yatra area. It was reported that the Army, CRPF and the State Police formations have started reaching the areas of the upper Yatra Camps.
Shri Narula informed that to augment the existing toilets and baths, 529 new toilets (286 Indian and 243 European) and 100 baths for Yatra 2018 were being installed.  During this year’s Yatra, a total of 2750 toilets and 516 baths shall be installed by the Shrine Board in the Yatra Camps and en-route (along with appropriate waste disposal facility) for the convenience of the Yatris.  For discouraging the use of plastic bottles in the Yatra area, 52 stainless steel water storage tanks/ water dispensers are being installed in the Yatra Camps and enroute. For easier collection of used water bottles, Shrine Board is installing 80 Bottle Catchers at conspicuous locations along the Yatra route. The plastic bottles are brought down and shredded in Shredding Machines at Base Camps of Nunwan and Baltal.  The Shrine Board shall also propagate the use of cloth bags, as an alternative to plastic bags, in the Yatra area.  In order to keep the Yatra area clean and promote the segregation of wastes into bio-degradable and non-bio-degradable at source, the Shrine Board shall install 1465 colour coded dustbins (293 Yellow colour for medical wastes; 586 Blue colour for biodegradable wastes; and 586 Green colour, for Non biodegradable wastes), with pictorial signages, in the Yatra area.
Shri Narula informed the Governor about the arrangements being made by the Divisional Administration of Kashmir for dealing with any disaster situation and deployment of teams of Mountain Rescue Teams of J&K Armed Police, Avalanche Rescue teams of SDRF, CRPF and NDRF in the Yatra area. In this context, he apprised Governor about the Table Top and Mock Exercises to be conducted by National Disaster Management Authority at Baltal and Pahalgam  from 19th June to 25th June, 2018.
Consequent to the Review the Governor directed CEO to take urgent action to ensure complete registration of Ponies, Pony-wallas ,Dandiwallas and Palki-wallas and see that no unauthorized person embarks on the Yatra tracks. Arrangements regarding the provision of safety measures at the Baltal and Nunwan Base Camps, particularly Fire and Emergency Services, were also reviewed. Governor directed that the senior State Government officers who are deployed for Yatra duty as Camp Directors, Additional Camp Director & Deputy Camp Directors should be particularly sensitized about their responsibility to ensure sanitation in the Yatra area;  they should undertake daily monitoring of cleanliness in their respective jurisdictions. Governor further directed that the Deputy Commissioners of Ganderbal and Anantnag districts should ensure that only good quality tents and beddings are provided by the persons who are granted permission to pitch tents in the Camps.


JAMMU, APRIL 24- A high level meeting was convened by Principal Secretary to Governor who is also Chief Executive Officer Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, Umang Narula to discuss the necessary arrangements required to be made for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2018.
The meeting was attended by Divisional commissioner Jammu Hemant Kumar Sharma, IGP Jammu SD Singh, IG CRPF A V Chauhan, DIG Rafiq-ul-Hassan, DC Ramban T. H Ganai, DC Udhampur Ravinder Kumar, DC Kathua Rohit Khajuria, ACEO SASB Bhupinder Kumar, Chief Engineer M&RE Wing Ashwani Kumar Gupta, Director Tourism Jammu Smita Sethi, ADC Jammu Arun Manhas, ADC Samba T. R. Sharma, SSP Security Ashok Sharma,  SSP Ramban Mohan Lal, SSP Traffic NHW Sanjay Bhagat,  SSP Traffic Jammu Joginder Singh, SSP Samba Anil Magotra, Joint Commissioner JMC Rishpal Singh, RTO Kathua Pardeep Singh, Deputy Director Information PR Atul Gupta,  General Manager JKTDC VeenakshiKoul,  besides other senior officers of concerned departments.
Narula informed that the Yatra will commence on June 28, 2018 and culminate on the Raksha bandhan day on 26 August, 2018. He apprised that advance registration of yatries has already started through various branches of Punjab National Bank, J&K Bank and YES Bank across the country. He informed that on-spot registration facility during the Yatra period will be available at Jammu at Vaishnavi Dham, Saraswati Dham, Jammu Haat and Geeta Bhawan/ Ram Mandir.
Narula stressed the need for all concerned agencies to enforce sustained close watch and maintain effective co-ordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Yatra.
In the meeting all aspects related to yatra including Yatra Registration,  accommodation/transportation for Sadhus, accommodation/ transportation for yatries, emergency/disaster management, boarding of yatries, setting up of langers, security arrangements, barricading, medical facility, lodging facilities for yatries in Jammu province, security arrangements, fixing of signboard by PWD, communication centre at Yatri Niwas, sanitation/cleanliness, temporary toilets, mobile toilet vans in Bhagwati Nagar and Parade area, uninterrupted supply of electricity, adequate water supply, besides others were discussed in detail.
Addressing the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner, said that the administration has already initiated action with regard to the arrangements that need to be made for the yatra this year. He said that all the arrangements are being monitored strictly at all levels so that the devotees would have to face no inconvenience on this account.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary to Governor and Divisional Commissioner also sought suggestions from civil society members so that no loophole is left in arrangements required for comfortable pilgrimage of the yatries.
The civil society members including Mahant Rameshwar Dass of Ram Mandir, Jammu, Col Karan Singh, Vice President Dogra Sadar Sabha, Karan Singh Charak, General Secretary Baba YatriNiyas besides other members of various organizations also spoke and gave their suggestions.
Later, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu along with senior functionaries of Civil and Police administration visited the Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar and took stock of necessary arrangements to be required for the upcoming Shri Amarnath ji Yatra.


SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: Sh. Vijay Dhar, Member Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), called on Governor N.N. Vohra, Chairman of the Board, at the Raj Bhavan.
Sh. Dhar complimented the Shrine Board for the smooth conduct of the just concluded Shri Amarnathji Yatra, and offered some suggestions regarding the arrangements for Yatra 2018.

Srinagar, Jul 19:  A 60-year-old yatri died of cardiac arrest near the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far 2.17 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance since the commencement of the annual pilgrims from June 29. With this, the death toll during the pilgrimage so far has touched 48, while Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has reviewed the issues relating to pilgrims injured or killed since the beginning of the Yatra. Meanwhile, an official spokesman said here today that Mr Vohra reviewed with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SASB Umang Narula issues relating to pilgrims injured or killed since the beginning of the Yatra. He said since June 29 to July 16, as many as 19 pilgrims had died due to medical reasons and 20 others had been killed in accidents. On July 10, 8 pilgrims had been killed in a terrorist attack on the bus in which they were travelling in Anantnag district on Srinagar-Jammu Highway. The CEO stated that, in view of the circumstances leading to the killing of pilgrims in this terror attack, a conscious decision had been taken to enhance the scale of ex-gratia relief paid to the next of their kin. Mr Narula ensured that all costs for sending the mortal remains by air to the home towns of the pilgrims, in whatever circumstances they had died, were borne by the Shrine Board. He said in 37 cases the Board had also borne the cost of providing an escort and attendant to deliver the coffin to the deceased pilgrim’s home town. Till yesterday, the Board had incurred Rs 14,66,975 on account of transportation costs and Rs 1,34,75,000 towards payment of ex-gratia relief. As regards the 16 pilgrims killed on July 16 in an accident near Banihal, when an SRTC bus went into a Khud, CEO informed that, as earlier decided by the Chairman, the coffins of the killed pilgrims, along with the escorting attendants, had been sent to their home towns on July 17 by Air India and Indigo flights. As earlier discussed by CEO with Governor, besides attendants from among pilgrims, J&K Police personnel have also been deputed to accompany the bodies. The mortal remains of the 12 deceased were transported by air to the nearest airports in the States of Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, from where the coffins are being transported in ambulances to their native places. The coffins of three killed pilgrims were transported in Ambulances to Sikar (Rajasthan), Panipat (Haryana) and R S Pura (Jammu). The mortal remains of one deceased female yatri, Chaya Devi, wife of Vijay Chourasiya Singh, resident of Bihar, have been kept in the mortuary at Jammu as her husband and son, both of whom had got injured in the Ramsoo road accident, are still undergoing medical treatment at Jammu.
