New Delhi, Sep 20: The Supreme Court Thursday said the newly appointed acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir shall continue in office till the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) takes a decision on the matter.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra said acting DGP Dilbag Singh, who replaced S P Vaid, shall continue to operate and asked the UPSC to take a decision within four weeks on suitability of senior police officers who can be appointed as police chief in the state.

As per the apex court's verdict, the state government has to give a list of senior police officers to UPSC to check their suitability and shortlist three names from the list

The Jammu and Kashmir government had earlier moved the apex court seeking modification of its order by which prior permission of the UPSC was required for appointing a police officer from the list of three shortlisted candidates. (PTI)

New Delhi, May 22: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the Modi Government on attempts to overhaul the UPSC structure.
In a post on social media, Rahul, accusing the Government of tampering with the UPSC structure in order to appoint officers of the choice of RSS in Central Services, also urged the students' community to 'rise' as their future was at 'risk'.
On his twitter handle, he shared a letter from the government where it said that it intends to examine "if service allocation/cadre allocation to probationers selected on the basis of Civil Services Examination be made after Foundation Course".
'Rise up students, your future is at risk! RSS wants what’s rightfully yours. The letter below reveals the PM’s plan to appoint officers of RSS’s choice into the Central Services, by manipulating the merit list using subjective criteria, instead of exam rankings,'Rahul said in a tweet.
At present, service allocation to the candidates selected on the basis of Civil Services examination is made well before the commencement of the foundation course.
The duration of foundation course for officers of almost all the services is three months.
As per the letter, the PMO had desired to examine if service allocation/cadre allocation to probationers selected on the basis of the examination can be made after foundation course, as per the communication sent by the Personnel Ministry to different cadre-controlling authorities. UNI

Hyderabad, Apr 28: Mr Durishetty Anudeep (2013 IRS batch) and working as Assistant Commissioner (Customs and Indirect Taxes) here has topped the Civil Services Examination 2017, the results of which was declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Friday.
The 28-year-old Anudeep is an engineering graduate from BITS, Pilani and qualified the examination with anthropology as his option subject. He also opted for Telugu language in the Civil Services examination.
Anudeep , a native of Metpally in Jagityal district, came from a well educated family. His father Manohar is working as Assistant Divisional Engineer in the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited in Telangana.
Elated over securing top rank, Anudeep said “ It’s exciting. It is my last attempt for the Civil Services and I had studied hard to realize my goal of making it to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS)”.
The other candidates who made it to the top slots from the state were Srisailam Sai ( 43rd rank), Narapureddy Mourya (100th rank), G Madhuri ( 144th rank), Vivek Johnson (195th rank), Sari Praneet (196th rank) and Yadavali Akshaya Kumar (624).
Sai Praneet, who cleared the exam in his first attempt, is the son of former IPS officer Lakshminarayana, who served as the Joint Director of CBI in Hyderabad. UNI

Hyderabad, Nov 11: The Telangana government on Friday appointed Hyderabad City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy as the new Director-General of Police of the state.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao signed the orders, an official statement said late last night. 
He will assume office on Sunday. Mr Reddy will be the second DGP of Telangana state which is carved out in 2014. He will succeed Mr Anurag Sharma. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) V V Srinivasa Rao will be the in-charge Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. A full-fledged Police Commissioner will be appointed in a few days, official sources said. Meanwhile, Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma, who will retire on Sunday, has been appointed as Advisor to the Home Department, the statement said. Born on December 3, 1962, Mahender Reddy, a native of Khammam, completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Civil Engineering in 1984 from the then REC, Warangal, presently known as NIT, Warangal. Later, while pursuing M.Tech (Systems and Management) at IIT, Delhi, he was selected to the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1986 through a Combined Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC. He joined Indian Police Service in 1986 and served in Karimnagar, Guntur, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kurnool and Hyderabad in various capacities holding managerial/leadership positions. National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists today staged protest outside Parliament House here demanding transparency in Civil Services Examinations.


New Delhi, Jul 24 :  National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists today staged protest outside Parliament House here demanding transparency in Civil Services Examinations. They were demanding a compensatory attempt for those aspirants who were adversely affected by the introduction of CSAT pattern by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The protestors said their demands include compensatory attempts to the adversely affected aspirants for the undue hardships they have faced. They also demanded that the answer key should be given within 50 days of the UPSC preliminary examination and students should be provided with Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets. The protesters were also joined by some of the UPSC aspirants here. Later, the students were stopped and dispersed by police outside the Parliament House. Agencies
