Justice Gogoi for taking legal aid to doorstep of underprivileged
SRINAGAR, JUNE 20: Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is also the Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) today inaugurated the one-day State Level Conference on “Empowering the Marginalized through Legal Services” in presence of Justice N V Ramana, Judge Supreme Court of India at SKICC here today.
The conference was organized by High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with National Legal Services Authority of India, (NLSA), J&K State Legal Services Authority (JKSLSA) and J&K High Court Legal Services Committee.
On the occasion, Chief Guest, Justice Ranjan Gogoi said the need of the hour is to provide benefits to underprivileged sections by providing legal aid at their doorsteps. He also said that NLSA and SLSA provide the opportunity to bring the marginalised at par through legal services.
During the occasion, Justice N V Ramana presented a keynote address. In his speech, he maintained that access to justice and rule of law to weaker sections of society are signs of development and of a prosperous country. “People are equal before the law, but the problem which is still persistent is that marginalized are unaware of their legal right,” he added.
Justice Ramana stressed upon sensitization of the underprivileged. “Unfortunately legal aid is still treated as charity and people at the helm of affairs like lawyers, paralegal volunteers should come forward to make these people aware these people about legal law, welfare schemes and policies,” he added.
Acting Chief Justice of J&K, High Court Alok Aradhe presented a welcome address at the conference. During his speech, Justice Aradhe said that the aim of the conference is to make weaker and marginalized section of society aware about the existence of legal services institutions and availability of free legal services.
At the end of the inaugural session, Justice, Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chairman J&K, High Court Legal Services Committee presented the vote of thanks to the guests.
Advocate General, Jehangir Iqbal Ganaie, Chief Secretary, BB Vyas, DGP SP Vaid and other officers of administration participated in the conference.

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 21: In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (b) of Sub-section (2) of section 3 of the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authorities Act, 1997 and is supersession of notification SRO 486 of 2014 dated 11th November, 2014, the government in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, has nominated Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, Judge of the State High Court as Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) constituted vide notification SRO-68 of 1998 dated: 18 February 1998.

The nomination shall be for a period of three years from the date of issuance of the notification.

Chief Justice releases SLSA's 2016 newsletter 'Endeavour'

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 20: J&K State Legal Service Authority (SLSA) organized Advance Training and Commendation Ceremony of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) under the patronage of Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, Chief Justice of J&K High Court (Patron In-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority) and under the guidance of Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority. The Advance Training was imparted by trained TOT and Assistant Professors from Kashmir University.
          The Training Programme was followed by Commendation Ceremony of PLVs and best PLVs of the State namely Mr. Younis Iqbal Najar from TLSC Tangmarg, Mr.  Sarjeel bin Hassanfrom DLSA Ganderbal and Sh. Umesh Kumar from DLSA Bhaderwah and PLVs who were awarded North Zone best PLV award in the year 2015 namely Sh. Janak Singh from DLSA Reasi, Mtr. Gulshan Aara from DLSA Srinagar in the year2016 were felicitated by  Mr Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, Chief Justice of J&K High Court(Patron in Chief J&K SLSA), Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir(Executive Chairman J&K legal Services Authority), Mr. Justice Alok Aradhe, Mr. Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Chairman HCLSC and Mr. Justice M.K. Hanjura, Judge J&K High Court.
On the occasion, the newsletter of J&K SLSA "Endeavour", (Koshish) was also released by the dignitaries.

The proceedings were conducted by Sh. R.N. Watal, Member Secretary J&K SLSA. On the occasion Registrar General Shri Sanjay Dhar, Registrar Vigilance Sh. Puneet Gupta, Mr. Jawad Ahmad, Pr. Secretary to  Chief Justice, Mr. Abdul Rashid Malik Director Judicial Academy, Mr. Mohd Yousuf Wani, Registrar Judicial, Srinagar (Wing) Mr. Abdul Nasir, Secretary High Court legal Service Committee, Joint Registrar, Mr. Farooq Ahmad, Mr Shabir Malik CPC and Sh. Umesh Sharma Munsiff Srinagar were present.


          SRINAGAR, AUGUST 09: Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed today inaugurated Legal Assistance Establishment (Qanooni Imdad Markaz) at State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) office at Old Secretariat Srinagar. He also launched SLSAs website (www.jkslsa.gov.in).  
          Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir (Executive Chairman J&K SLSA), Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey (Chairman HCLSC), Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice M K Hanjura were also present on the occasion.
          The Legal Assistance Establishment will be a multiple centralized information centre for providing information to Legal Aid seekers under one roof at a single location through e-mail, telephone and video conferencing. The Legal Assistance Establishment would be manned by a legal service advocate, staff of J&K SLSA and PLV’s and shall provide quick information to legal aid beneficiaries, services to people in the need of legal Assistance particularly marginalized groups, information about activities of SLSA and District legal services Authorities and legal aid, advice and information about various schemes of National Legal Service Authority.

          Sanjay Dhar Registrar General, Javed Ahmad Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, A.R Malik Director Judicial Academy, R.N Watal Member Secretary J&K SLSA, Mohammad. Yousuf Wani Registrar Judicial, Abdul Nasir Secretary HCLSC, Malik Shabir Ahmad CPC and Omesh Sharma Munsif associated with e-Courts were also present on the occasion.  


       SRINAGAR, JUNE 14: Deputy Secretary J&K State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), has asked the organisations willing to work with JKSLSA to spread legal awareness through street plays and nukads for marginalized sections of the society, to contact to the office of J&K State Legal Services Authority Old Secretariat, block A Srinagar by or before July 07, 2017.
