Shimla, Nov 9: Polling began on Thursday morning in 68 Assembly segments of Himachal Pradesh at 0800 hrs amid tight security. 
Chief Electoral Officer of State Pushpender Rajpot said barring minor snags in few EVMs, polling in a single phase began as scheduled. With 337 candidates, including 19 women in the fray, BSP is contesting from 42 seats, BJP-- 68, CPI-- 3, CPI (M)-- 14, INC-- 68, NCP-- 2, SP-- 2, Swabhiman Party-- 6, Lok Gathban Party-- 6, Rashtriya Azad Manch-- 4, Nav Bharat Ekta Dal-- one, Bhartiya Himachal Jan Vikas Party-- one, All India Manavadhikar Rajnaithik Dal-- one, Bahujan Mukti Party-- one, All India Forward Bloc-- two, Samaj Adhikar Kalyan Party-- two, Janral Samaj Party-- one and Rashtravadi Pratap Sena on one seat and Independent 112 seats.
The state has 68 seats in unicameral legislative house with 48 seats reserved for general, 17 for Scheduled Caste and three for Schedule Tribe. As many as 50,25,941 voters, comprising 25,31,321 males, 24,57,032 females, 14 third genders and 37,575 service voters, would cast their franchise to elect their representatives in 7,525 polling stations . About 1,36.029 voters (1.84 per cent ) between age group of 18 and 19 would press EVM buttons for the first time. Polling would last till 1700 hrs.  UNI
