REASI, MAY 23: Deputy
Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G today chaired a meeting of
District Road Safety committee and discussed the key issue with the members and
officials.
The meeting was
attended by ACR, ARTO, DySP, XEN, CMO, CEO, and other officers.
The DC took several
decisions and issued instructions to adopt a multi-pronged strategy for
promoting awareness, enforcement, engineering and emergency care, to improve
safety on roads. Several important decisions were taken in the meeting
regarding minimising accidents, smooth flow of traffic and implementing
effective road safety mechanism.
The DM directed the
Motor Vehicle Department and the Traffic Police to ensure condemnation of old
vehicles from all routes of district besides organising road safety
awareness programmes in collaboration with other departments for the young
drivers and also for the drivers of passenger service vehicles.
The
ARTO was directed to identify hungry routes in the district for issuing route
permits to the applicants. He further issued directions to strictly follow the
guidelines and ensure installation of speed governors in all heavy vehicles.
The DM directed the ARTO, Traffic Department and the local police to
check the overloading in passenger vehicles particularly during the peak hours
besides organising mass awareness programme regarding traffic rules and
regulations. He directed authorities to ensure highway patrol,
provision of crane, signboards, blinkers and signboards specifically for
accident prone areas.
