USD 5 trillion economy goal difficult, not impossible: Gadkari

Indore (MP), Jan 18 :  Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that the goal of making India a USD 5 trillion economy by 2024 was "difficult but not impossible".

It can be achieved by increasing domestic production and reducing dependence on imports, he said at the 29th International Management Conclave of the Indore Management Association here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders have often spoken about the goal of turning India into a USD 5 trillion economy by 2024.

"Strong political will is very important to achieve any goal. Manifesting the same will, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set ourselves the goal of making the country a USD 5 trillion economy," Gadkari said.

"This goal is difficult but not impossible," he added.

"Our country has plenty of resources and production capacity. Despite that we are spending crores every year on importing goods like medicines, medical devices, coal, copper, papers, etc," the Union minister said.

"If we want to become a USD 5 trillion economy, we have to increase the domestic production of these things instead of importing them," he said.

Referring to the current economic slowdown, Gadkari said, "We are the fastest growing economy in the world. But there is a cycle in the business. Challenges crops up, at times due to the global economy and sometimes because of a gap in demand and supply.

"But I see India's future in the leaders of younger generation who can turn difficulties and challenges into opportunities," Gadkari said.

There was no dearth of capital, resources and technology in the country, "but there is definitely a lack of right vision and leadership in different fields", he said.

Exports will be encouraged by focusing on increasing the participation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the development, the minister said.

"This will help create five crore new jobs....The government is asking every department what it can contribute to achieve the target of USD 5 trillion economy," Gadkari added.

The gang members used to visit India on tourist visas and stay in costly hotels, he added.

The girl, who was allegedly raped on June 26 and left severely injured by two men in Mandsaur, located about 200 km from here, is undergoing treatment at the Maharaja Yeshwantrao (MY) Hospital here.

Indore, Jun 23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today accused the Congress of neglecting the development of cities during its long rule in the country and said his government had come out with new ideas and approach on urban governance.

Villages were the "soul" of the country, while cities were its "energy" centres, he said, addressing a public meeting here.

"The development of civic amenities and infrastructure in cities did not match the growth in population. Under the previous Congress rule, cities remained neglected," he alleged.

However, after the BJP-led government came to power at the Centre in 2014, the approach towards urban governance changed, Modi claimed.

The prime minister said his government's schemes like Swachh Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, Smart City and AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) laid the foundation of a "New India".

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, three times more houses were constructed in four years than the ten years of the Congress-led UPA rule (2004-14), he said.

"If we went by the speed of the UPA regime, we would have taken 20 years to do what we achieved in four years," Modi said.

He said his government had provided a transparent and corruption-free administration in the last four years and people were experiencing its results.

Referring to Indore, the prime minister said the city had shown those making fun of his government's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan how change can be accomplished.

The commercial hub of Madhya Pradesh last month emerged as the cleanest city in the country in the Centre's nationwide cleanliness survey. This was the second time Indore was adjudged the cleanest city.

"So far, 2,300 cities in 18 states have been declared ODF (open defecation-free) and on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi next year, the dream of a Swachh Bharat will be fulfilled," he said.

Modi said 8.30 crore toilets were constructed in the country in the last four years, 65 lakhs of them in Madhya Pradesh alone.  PTI

Indore, Jun 23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today Indore was inspiring the rest of the country on cleanliness, after the city emerged as the cleanest in the Centre's nationwide survey.

This was the second time the commercial hub of Madhya Pradesh was adjudged the cleanest city in the cleanliness survey.

Last month, it was declared the cleanest city in the country in the 2018 'Swachhata' survey.

The prime minister also congratulated Bhopal for securing the second position.

He was addressing a function after giving awards for the first and second positions under the drive to Indore and Bhopal, respectively.

"Indore is inspiring others cities of the country on cleanliness," he said.

The city's culture of public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness was unique in nature and a source of inspiration for other cities and towns, he added.  PTI

Lewis lost his wicket in the 6th overs at score 10 while Suryakumar (57) smashed half century keeping Mumbai in the game, on the other end with Ishan Kishan 25.

New Delhi, March 30: Amidst the hullabaloo on leakage of Facebook data for electoral gains, it must be brought to light that there are cyber security cells like the one functioning in Indore, for instance, that have had successes in dealing with cyber crimes including hacking of emails, trading of credit and debit card data and now, even Bitcoin wallet hacking.
Digital India is the slogan of New India but unless cyber security is tightened and laws made stringent with heavy penalty, data will continue to be hacked and traded, informed sources told.
Personal data is being hacked from servers of internet banking, e-commerce, social media, matrimonial, jobs websites, etc.
The most startling revelation is that there are some international websites on which Indian credit and debit card details are up for sale.
On one site alone about four lakh credit and debit card details are up for sale to whoever pays for them, the sources said.
The cards were apparently brought from certain websites in exchange of Bitcoins, the crypto currency that is illegal in India.
The biggest volume of hacked card data in circulation is that of Americans followed by the British and then Indians.
Speaking to UNI, Indore Cyber Security Cell Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh confirmed this and said his Cell had lifted data of about one lakh people whose credit/debit cards information was up for sale in the international market and sent it to all the banks in the country, the Reserve Bank of India and the Ministry of Information Technology.
The idea was to ask banks to caution the customer to block the cards to save themselves from being ripped off.
To verify the veracity of the information, the Indore Cyber Security cell set up a decoy and bought one card in exchange of Bitcoin and lo and behold, all the details on the card including the mobile number of the client showed up. The cyber cell contacted the customer and advised her to block her card.
"This was our first encounter with prohibited sites and Bitcoin,’’ he said.
Mr Singh is very conscious of the fact that there has to be strong awareness drive to make people conscious of the dangers and pitfall in online trading, banking, etc.
For this, his department continuously holds workshops and awareness campaigns in various schools, colleges and other institutions.
Recently, he organised a campaign at his office with young Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) girl students to make them aware of misuse of their profile photos and personal information on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.
"We wanted to make them aware about the risks in social media sites and give them the confidence that they could come to the Indore Cyber Security Cell without hesitation in case they needed help,’’ Mr Singh said. UNI

Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Feb 27: The Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh has helped the citizens in more ways than one.
First, it has made the city clean and galvanized all sections of society in a unity of purpose to keep their homes, offices, shopping centres and bazars clean; but more importantly it has had a salutary effect on the health of the people.
According to officials of Indore Municipal Corporation, which piloted the cleanliness drive with an unprecedented zeal and professional approach in last three year, the positive impact of the Swacch Mission has resulted in decline in "respiratory and other diseases by about 50 per cent".
"We all spoke about Acchey Din (Good Days) in 2014. People still ridicule the slogan in social network. But come to Indore and you find what's Acchey Din. The city is cleaner and healthier. Even our Sabzi Mandis offer a different view," says Indore Municipal Corporation 'safaimitra' Dinesh Kumar.
The observation should not be dismissed as mere rhetoric as the city has come up a long way from being placed 150th in a cleanliness ranking of India’s cities in 2014 to Number 1 in 2017. In between, the city had leaped to the 25th position in 2016.
"It's doable and we did it," Asad Warsi of Eco Pro Environmental Services, consultant to the Indore Municipal Corporation, told.
Indore Municipal Corporation officials say the "swift progress" was possible due corporation’s efforts and people's involvement to improve garbage collection, and make the city bin-free and open-defecation free (ODF).
In terms of health paradigm, studies, according to municipal corporation, show- while there were 160 cases of dengue in 2014, it came down to 129 in 2016 and dropped to 'zero' in 2017.
"Similarly, there was decline in cases of other diseases too. Malaria cases dropped from 89 to 13 in 2017, typhoid 1955 to 467, swine flu 10 to zero in 2017," says Mr Warsi.
Studies have shown that in case of viral fever the figures dropped from 46,260 in 2014 to 9,169 in 2017. In case of cholera, the figure rose from 12 in 2014 to 27 in 2015 but dropped to zero in 2017.
"I am most grateful to all stake holders of the Indore city. Our corporators, safaimitras, the citizens of Indore, all have contributed to make Indore Number One," says Malini Gaur, Mayor of Indore.
Answering questions, she says, public awareness actually helped achieve the milestone.
As a result, she says when the Union Urban Development ministry released the findings of the Swachh Survekshan survey in May 2017, of the 434 cities on various parameters including waste collection, Open Defecation Status and individual observation, Indore was ranked numero uno.
The survey by the central government aims to monitor the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with much fanfare in 2014 to make India clean and open-defecation free by 2019.
Since the launch of the Swachh Bharat mission, Indore Municipal Corporation has covered all of its wards with door-to-door solid waste collection, instituted waste segregation, and installed tracking devices for garbage trucks.
"Seeing is believing. If BJP government can showcase Indore's cleanliness as one of its key achievements, probably it can tackle the argument of its detractors that the party did not perform well," says an enthusiastic BJP supporter Pravin Sabherwal in a residential colony.
"I shifted to this city from Kanpur, five years back for job with a real estate firm; now I have decided to settle down here," he declares. UNI

Nonetheless, it is inappropriate to regard religious traditions as culprit. Such instances makes one embarrassed,” said Baba Ramdev while replying to a media query over allegations being leveled against people in the religious field.
