Muzaffarnagar, Oct 3: Two youths allegedly harassed students who were returning from school and also thrashed two people who objected to their behaviour, police said Wednesday.
The incident occurred near Fakhershah Chowk in Kotwali Polcie Station area here Tuesday.
A student of Class 12 of returning from school accompanied by two of her friends when the bike-borne accused started harassing them. When two people near them opposed their behaviour, the youths thrashed them, they said.
They also slapped the girl, they added.
The police registered a case and launched an investigation in the incident. (PTI)
Hailakandi (Assam), Oct 2: A man has been held guilty by a district court in Assam for the rape and murder of a minor girl.
District and Sessions Court Judge, Hailakandi, Debasish Bhattacharjee on Monday convicted Jashimuddin Borbhuiyan in the rape and murder case of the 13-year-old tribal girl.
The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on October 4.
The girl, a resident of Betcherra village, bordering Mizoram, was raped and killed by Borbhuiyan on March 14.
The incident had sparked an outrage among the locals who had taken out rallies and protest marches demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrator.
Congratulating Superintendent of Police Mohneesh Mishra and his team, Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner, Adil Khan said, "The SP and his team delivered what we had promised to the people of Hailakandi six months ago.
"This will reaffirm the faith of the common man in our administration, police, judiciary and the entire criminal justice system". (PTI)
Muzaffarnagar, Sep 29: A 26-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour at gunpoint when she was alone in her house in a village in Shamli district, police said Saturday.
Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said the incident occurred at Jandheri village under Kairana Police Station Friday.
According to complaint lodged by the victim's husband, their neighbour, Gaurav Kumar, 27, entered the house in his absence and raped her at gunpoint, the CO said.
Kumar threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone. She later narrated the incident to her husband, he said.
A case was registered against the accused who was on the run and the woman was sent for medical examination. (PTI)
Thane (Maha), Sep 22: A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour near here in Maharashtra, police said Saturday.
The accused, a 50-year-old man residing in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi, was arrested Friday, they said.
The incident took place Thursday evening when the victim had gone out of her house to make some purchases.
As it was raining very heavily, she took shelter near the house of the accused, her neighbour. The man allegedly pulled her inside his home and raped her, the police said.
The girl returned home and told her mother about the ordeal. Her mother approached the ShantiNagar police station in Bhiwandi and filed a complaint, they said.
The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, they said. (PTI)
Bhopal, Sep 21: A three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused in a school van by its conductor, who was detained, police said Friday.
The incident took place Thursday when the girl, a pre-nursery student, was returning home in the Ayodhya Nagar area here in the van from her school, they said.
The van conductor was detained Thursday night, police inspector Baljeet Singh said.
"The accused is claiming he is 17 years of age. We are verifying his age," he said.
The inspector said the victim returned home around 2 pm and told her mother about the incident when she took her for bathing.
When her mother inquired more about the incident, the minor girl named the bus conductor, the police officer said.
The 14-seater van, in which the incident took place, has been hired by the school where the girl goes, the inspector said.
Her parents later lodged a police complaint against the van conductor, Singh said.
The accused was booked for rape under the amended Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 376 AB, which deals with punishment for rape of girls under the age of 12, and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, he said.
Last year, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly unanimously passed a bill introducing the death penalty for those found guilty of raping minors aged 12 years or less. (PTI)
New Delhi, Sep 20: An assistant commissioner of police has been booked for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage, police said Thursday.
The woman had filed a complaint against the officer in July and alleged that she came in contact with him after the death of her husband, who was a criminal, they said.
The officer identified as Ramesh Dahiya was posted as the station house officer at Sadar Bazar Police Station here. He was recently promoted to the rank of the ACP, they added.
Police have registered a case against Dahiya and further investigation is underway, they added. (PTI)
Kochi, Sep 20: A special investigation team, probing the rape case of a nun by a Roman Catholic bishop, Thursday resumed his interrogation.
Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who has been accused of repeated rape and sexual assault by the nun, Thursday appeared before the Kerala police for his interrogation.
The Jalandhar bishop of the Roman Catholic church, grilled by the special investigation team for seven hours Wednesday, was asked to appear before the team again at the crime branch office Thrippunithura at 11 am.
Mulakkal, who had recently relinquished his administrative responsibilities as the bishop of the Jalandhar diocese, joined the probe at around 11 am at the crime branch office.
Before resuming the interrogation, Kottayam Superintendent of Police Hari Sankar said about 50 per cent of the questioning was over and the process is expected to be completed by Thursday evening.
The effort is to reach a conclusion after solving the contradictions in the statements, he said.
The police had earlier said there were contradictions in the statements of the victim, witnesses and the accused.
When asked about the "contradictions" in the statements of the alleged victim, the witnesses and Mulakkal, as claimed by the police earlier, Sankar had said Wednesday, "That's the purpose of the interrogation. The interrogation is not over. We will reflect on it after it is over."
The nun has accused the senior Catholic priest of sexually assaulting her repeatedly between 2014 and 2016.
The clergyman has claimed allegations against him were a "cooked up story to wreak vengeance" for the actions taken by him on various complaints received against the nun.
Claiming innocence, the bishop has said the complaint was "nothing but a fictional story".
As the bishop joined the probe, a protest by various Catholic reform organisations and a group of nuns seeking his arrest entered its 13th day Thursday.
The agitation at Vanchi Square here is a spontaneous expression of outrage by these groups over the alleged assault of the nun.
A protesting nun said they all were waiting for the news of the arrest of the Bishop because it could send out a strong message to those who abuse women in the country. (PTI)
Thane (Maha), Sep 20: Two persons were arrested for allegedly raping a 30-year-old married woman here in Maharashtra, police said Thursday.
One of the accused, Rajesh Mhaskar (30), called the woman, who works as a labourer, out of her house at Khoni village in Bhiwandi area in the wee hours of Tuesday and allegedly raped her, an official at Nizampura police station said.
The other accused, Lala alias Balaram Kolhe (33), also arrived at the spot and attempted to rape her, he said.
However, the woman raised an alarm and both the accused, who are residents of the same area, fled the spot, he said.
Based on the woman's complaint, the police arrested the accused Wednesday and registered offences against them under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), the official added. (PTI)
Pune (Maha), Sep 20: Two minor girls were allegedly raped by a man and a 17-year-old boy here on Sunday and one of them died of injuries inflicted during the assault days later, a police official said Thursday.
The two girls, both around 12 years' old and residents of the same locality, went to a temple near their home in Hinjawadi area Sunday afternoon, he said.
The two accused, who also lived in the same locality, lured the girls by offering them chocolates. They then took the girls to an isolated area where they allegedly raped them, the official at Hinjawadi Police Station said.
The accused threatened the girls with dire consequences if they revealed the incident to anyone, he said.
The victims did not inform about the incident to their parents. However, one of them complained of pain and weakness following which her parents rushed her to a hospital, where doctors found out that she was traumatised, he said.
The doctors then informed the police, who approached the girl's family in the hospital on Tuesday, but the victim was not in a condition to speak, the official said.
Her family members told police that one more girl from their neighbourhood was with her on Sunday.
"When we approached the other girl, she narrated the entire incident," the official said.
Based on her statement, a case was registered against the two accused, one of whom has been identified as Ganesh Nikam (22), he said.
Meanwhile, the girl who was undergoing treatment at the government hospital here slipped into coma and succumbed to injuries Wednesday night, he said.
"We are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of the death and accordingly, relevant sections will be added in the case," he said.
The police have arrested Nikam and detained the boy accused in the case, the official said.
Nikam will be produced in a court Thursday and the minor boy will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, he said.
The accused have been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 363 (kidnapping), and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he added. (PTI)
Thane (Maha), Sep 20: A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday here in Maharashtra for allegedly raping his teenaged daughter, a police official said.
The accused and his wife separated seven years back.
Since then, the 14-year-old girl was living with her father in the Kasarvadavli area of Thane city, he said.
The girl alleged that she was raped repeatedly by her father in the last four years, the official at Kasarvadavli police station said.
Unable to bear the harassment any further, the girl approached her neighbours who helped her in filing a police complaint against her father Wednesday evening, he said.
The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under IPC section 376 (rape) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The girl was sent to a hospital for medical examination, the official added. (PTI)
Rewari (Haryana), Sep 19: Traders in Kosli town of Haryana's Rewari district observed a bandh on Wednesday to protest against the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman.
A protest march was taken out by some social organisations and residents to protest against the incident. They demanded immediate arrest of the two key accused on the run -- an Army man who has been identified as Pankaj and Manish, and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
The 19-year-old woman, a school topper hailing from Rewari who had been felicitated by the government, was abducted at a bus stop in Kanina town in neighbouring Mahendragarh district on September 12 while she was on the way to a coaching class, police said.
She was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room housing a tubewell for irrigation.
The protesters also demanded all necessary help and support from the government to the woman.
Shops were closed and markets in the town wore a deserted look.
Earlier, a 'Mahapanchayat' of 25 villages had resolved to observe a bandh in Kosli town in protest against the incident.
The gang rape case has prompted opposition parties to demand Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's resignation on moral grounds, alleging the state had failed to protect its daughters.
The police have so far arrested three accused in the case.
Besides one of the key accused Nishu, the two other men arrested in the case have been identified by the Haryana Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) as Sanjeev, a medical practitioner who attended to the woman first after the crime, and Deendayal, the owner of the property where the woman was allegedly gang-raped. Hisar, Sep 19: A special court for heinous crimes against women here has sentenced a 68-year-old man to five-year imprisonment for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl last year.
The crime took place on August 7 last year.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr Pankaj Tuesday sentenced Ram Kumar and also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him.
In case of default, Kumar would have to further undergo an imprisonment of one month.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim's father on August 7, 2017, the girl, a student of class 5, was going to school when Kumar grabbed her and took her behind an idol where he tried to rape her
Two passers-by had rescued the girl.
On the basis of the complaint filed by the girl's father, Kumar was booked for attempt to rape and charged under relevant provisions of the law including under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. (PTI)
Chandigarh, Sep 18: A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a minor girl from Rewari district accused him of raping her, police said.
The incident comes just days after a 19-year-old woman from the district was allegedly abducted and gang-raped while she was headed to a coaching class.
The 17-year-old girl lodged a complaint against her former schoolmate on Monday, Inspector Jagdish Parshad, SHO of Dharuhera in Rewari district, said over phone.
"In her complaint, the girl has said that her former schoolmate, a 19-year-old youth, raped her recently," he said.
"We immediately registered a case and launched an investigation. The youth was arrested," he said.
Notably, another woman, hailing from Rewari district, had on Monday alleged that she was raped by two people in Haryana's Jind district.
Last Wednesday, a 19-year-old woman, a school topper from Rewari who had been felicitated by the government, was abducted from a bus stop in Kanina town in Mahendragarh district while she was on her way to a coaching class.
She was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room adjoining a tubewell in an agricultural field, police said.
The gang rape prompted the opposition parties to demand Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's resignation on moral grounds, saying the state had failed to protect its daughters. (PTI)
Muzaffarnagar, Sep 13: A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two youths after she was abducted from her house in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday in a village under the Kairana police station.
Based on a complaint by the woman, the youths were arrested, Station House Officer (SHO) Bhagat Singh said.
She has alleged that the youths abducted her from her house and raped her near a tube well, he said.
The perpetrators had tried to escape, but were nabbed by her family members. They were handed over to the police after being beaten up, the SHO said.
The woman was staying at her parent's house, he said, adding that she has been sent for medical examination.
In another incident, four persons tried to rape a woman when she was alone at her home in the district.
The incident took place on Wednesday.
SHO, Knadhla, Anil Kumar said based on a complaint by the woman's father, a case was registered.
He said a search is on to nab the accused. (PTI)
New Delhi, Sep 11: The Crime Branch will take over the probe into the alleged sexual assault of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in her school last week, police said Tuesday.
The alleged incident occurred last Tuesday in north west Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar and the next day, a case was registered by the district police under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The girl's parents also staged a protest outside the school Tuesday demanding an action against the authorities.
A senior officer said the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch since it is a "sensitive one".
Aslam Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest), had said, "We are investigating the matter from all angles. We are not ruling out the role of the school authority or any family member or neighbour."
The police had claimed that the girl was "touched" inappropriately. (PTI)
New Delhi, Sep 11 : A woman has alleged a self-styled godman raped her and her minor daughter at his ashram in the national capital, police said Monday.
The woman claimed she was raped by self-styled godman Ashu Maharaj from 2008 to 2013 by his friends and his son, they said.
She alleged he even asked her to bring her minor daughter to him and raped her, the police said.
A case was registered with the Hauz Khas police station last week and the probe was transferred to the Crime Branch Sunday, they added.

Kochi, Sep 8: Members of various catholic reformation organisations took to the streets here Saturday to protest the alleged laxity in the probe into a complaint of rape filed by a nun against a Roman Catholic church bishop.
Five nuns from a convent in Kottayam, to which the victim belonged, also took part in the demonstration and alleged that the victim had been denied justice by the church, police and the government as no action has been initiated against accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar diocese.
"We are fighting for our sister. She has been denied justice by the Church, government and the police. We are ready to go to any extent for ensuring justice to our sister," a nun told protesters here, who held placards demanding arrest of Bishop Franco.
She sought to know why Bishop Franco has not been arrested despite sufficient evidence against him and also questioned the Church's stand on the matter.
"Seventy-four days have passed since the complaint was made against Bishop Franco. The police recorded her statements several times. But the accused bishop was interrogated only once," the nun said.
They alleged that the police probing the case was trying to sabotage the investigation.
Catholic reformation organisations, including Kerala Catholic Church Refomation Movement (KCRM), took part in the protest, KCRM office bearer George Joseph said, adding some organisations, including KCRM, were planning to continue the stir till justice is delivered in the case.
In her complaint filed at Kuravilangad Police Station, the victim had alleged that she had received death threats from unknown people two months ago. The nun has accused Jalandhar Bishop Franco of raping and having unnatural sex with her multiple times between 2014 and 2016.
A special team probing the case has said according to preliminary investigation, Bishop Franco abused his position and repeatedly raped the nun.
Responding to a petition seeking speedy probe, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kottayam, K Subhash had informed the Kerala High Court on August 13 that the probe was proceeding effectively and impartially.
The police, in a statement based on initial investigation and available evidence, had said it was found that the Bishop allegedly committed unnatural offence and raped the nun against her will.
In the statement it was allege that the bishop confined the nun to a guest room in St Francis Mission Home in Kuravilangad in Kottayam district of Kerala. (PTI)
Berhampur (Odisha), Sep 8: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two persons at Buguda in Ganjam district, the police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Thursday night and police rescued the girl in a critical condition the following day from a deserted place near a high school in the town.
The two accused were arrested and an auto-rickshaw in which they had taken the minor girl before committing the crime was also seized.
Police said one accused, who was known to the girl and had promised to marry her, invited the minor for a visit to the market Thursday evening. As he took the girl to a deserted place, the other accused joined and both took turn to rape her.
Medical test of both the accused and the girl were conducted and investigation was on, they said adding that the girl was undergoing treatment at a hospital. (PTI)
Muzaffarnagar, Sep 8: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a man at knifepoint in a garden, where her husband was a caretaker, in Kulhedi village here, police said Saturday.
According to a complaint lodged by the woman's husband, Khalil Ahmad raped her at knifepoint in the garden Friday, SHO VC Tiwari said.
The husband, who was a caretaker of the garden and lived with his wife there, said he was not present there when the incident took place, the SHO added.
A case was registered against Ahmad who was absconding. The woman was sent for medical examination, the official said. (PTI)
Muzaffarnagar, Sept 7: A 16-year-old girl has alleged her family was being pressured to withdraw an attempt-to-rape case against a man who has been jailed in the matter, police said Friday.
Superintendent of Police (city) Omvir Singh said the girl approached the police Thursday with her complaint.
According to her complaint, the man, in her early 20s, had attempted to rape her on August 9 in Charthawal police station area in the district. She filed a police complaint against the man and he was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and sent to jail the same day, Singh said.
In her complaint Thursday, she has alleged that she was being pressured into withdrawing the case, the SP said.
He said the matter was being probed. (PTI)
