Kolkata, Nov 18: After all the international honours, now a short film on the Kanyashree Scheme has become a big hit at the 23rd Kolkata  International Film Festival (KIFF). 
It was screened on November 13. The 15-minute film – Kanyashree Samman – projects the struggle of 15  young girls from Howrah against adverse circumstances and financial  constraints. It has been directed by Mallika Roychowdhury  A brainchild of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Kanyashree Prakalpa, launched in 2013, is a cash transfer scheme aimed at retaining  girls in schools and preventing their early marriage.  In July 2017, Kanyashree Prakalpa won the first prize at United Nations  Public Service Awards in Hague. Kolkata, Nov 10: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to inaugurate the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) today at the Netaji Indoor Stadium.
KIFF 2017 will be inaugurated by Amitabh Bachchan. Shah Rukh Khan is the special guest, Mahesh Bhatt, Kamal Haasan and well-known British film director Michael Winterbottom are the distinguished guests, and Kajol and Kumar Sanu are the guests of honour. The festival proper is going to take place from November 11 to 17. Like every year, film-lovers are going to have a feast of the world’s best cinema. As the tagline for the festival goes, ‘Bengal Welcomes World Cinema’. 143 feature films, 87 short films and 51 documentary films from 53 countries are going to be featured. Film personalities (actors, directors, producers, etc.) from 20 countries will be attending the festival, whose films are being screened. There will be sections like Retrospectives, Centenary Tributes, and others. Among the films of Winterbottom that to be screened are Trishna, On the Road and Welcome to Sarajevo. Another attraction for film connoisseurs will be the screening of the famous French director, Jean-Luc Godard’s 1986 made-for-television film, Rise and Fall of Small Film Company, the first screening of the film in India after its restoration. This is being considered by film buffs to be a watershed moment for an Indian film festival. Other attractions for connoisseurs are the Satyajit Ray Memorial Lecture, seminars, interactive sessions, exhibitions and special adda sessions. The prestigious lecture will be delivered by Rachel Dwyer, a professor of Indian Cultures and Cinema at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Screening is taking place at 12 venues – Nandan 1, 2 and 3, Rabindra Sadan, Sisir Mancha, Navina Cinema, Star Theatre, Mitra Cinema, Inox at Salt Lake City Centre 1 Mall, Purbashree Auditorium at Salt Lake EZCC, Nazrul Tirtha and PVR Mani Square. At Ms Banerjee’s initiative, a few years back, KIFF was made a competitive film festival, with the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger award being given to the best film by a woman director and the best woman director. Kolkata, Nov 7: Budding film makers can win the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Trophy--a Rs one lakh prize money at the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival which begins here on November 10.
'We are introducing a Short and Documentary section to encourage upcoming film makers,' Nandan Chief Executive Officer Yadab Mondal today. 'This is an important section to give a boost to young men and women who have started making films and hence we introduced the prize,' he said. This year the Royal Bengal Trophy would be awarded to the Best Film and the Best Director in Innovation in Moving Images section. The cash award for the Best Film is the single largest cash award at any International film festival till date. 'Besides, we will be holding a Prakash Jha(renowned director) master class for the benefit of the student community,' Mr Mondal said. UNI

Inaugurates Kargil International Film Festival-2017
KARGIL, AUGUST 21: Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali today urge the youth to experience social, cultural and art films rather than restricted to commercial and entertainment films.
            Anayat Ali was speaking at an inaugural ceremony of Kargil International Film Festival (KIFF) 2017 at Syed Mehdi Memorial Hall Kargil organized by DBG Films Mumbai in Collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil and Student Educational Movement of Kargil.
            Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan was Guest of Honour and MLA Kargil Haji Asgar Ali Karbalia Special Guest on the occasion.
            Lauding the effort of the organizers, the Chairmen said that stressed on the need to motivate filmmakers to explore the untapped locating locations and picturesque views capable to catch eye of any Bollywood and Hollywood filmmaker.
            The Chairmen said that events like this create opportunities to market tourism industry and show unique case culture of the region, besides generating employment avenues.
            Talking note of Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall, Anayat Ali directed District Information Officer to prepare a DPR for its renovation and up-gradation to conducted more such events at larger scale in the region.
            During three day the KIFF will showcase 85 documentary films from 29 different countries.
