Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi


Srinagar, Jan 22 : Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today visited city center Lal Chowk and interacted with traders there.

He was accompanied by Advisor to Lt Governor Farooq Khan and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary.

The Union Minister interacted with shopkeepers and asked them about issues, if any, in smooth conduct of their business.

Earlier, various delegations called on the Union Minister and apprised him about their demands.

The Minister assured them that all their genuine demands will be addressed at earliest.

Gwalior, Feb 25 :  Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Monday said in Madhya Pradesh that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has blocked the "loot lobby" and controlled terrorism successfully.

Addressing a convention of BJP workers here, the Minority Affairs Minister said the BJP will retain power after polls, as PM Modi has ensured "development without discrimination".

"PM Modi's strong will power has ensured blockade of middlemen and the corrupt. Modi has taken a strict action against the 'loot lobby'. Each and every penny of public money is now spent on welfare of the poor," Naqvi stated in a release.

The minister stated the prime minister's policy of "development without Discrimination" has ensured that every section of the society has become an equal partner in the development process.

"The development works being carried out by the Modi government had not been taken place during 60 years of rule of the Congress governments," he said.

Talking about the security scenario, the minister said the previous government had adopted a lackadaisical approach towards the national security and terrorism, before BJP came to power in 2014.

"Before 2014, hundreds of innocent people had been killed in terror activities almost every month in one and another part of the country. But due to the 'zero tolerance' policy of Modi government against terrorism, terror activities have been confined to a few places in Kashmir only," he said.

Talking about upcoming elections, Naqvi said the BJP's "Sankalp Patra" would be the only such manifesto that will be prepared with the help, suggestions and participation of crores of people of the country.

Naqvi said the BJP was reaching out to the people across the country through various platforms like websites, WhatsApp messages and e-mails.

He said a campaign like giving a missed call on a particular number is underway to reach out to people.

Besides, 300 'sankalp Rath' vehicles are rolled out and as many as 7700 suggestion boxes installed to receive suggestions from people in various cities.                 [Agencies]

New Delhi, June 30: Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today said Rs 57 crore less will be paid to airlines this year for Haj pilgrims travelling through the Haj Committee of India even after the ending of subsidy for the pilgrimage.

He said that despite the removal of the Haj subsidy and various new taxes imposed in Saudi Arabia, Indians were going for the pilgrimage without any additional financial burden.

At a training camp for Haj Coordinators, Assistant Haj Officers or Haj Assistants here, the Union minister said that for the first time after the Independence, a record 1,75,025 Indians were going for Haj this year, of which 47 per cent are female, which is another record.

Last year, Rs 1,030 crore was paid to airlines as air fare for 1,24,852 Haj pilgrims, while this year, Rs 973 crore will be paid to airlines for 1,28,702 Haj pilgrims travelling through the Haj Committee of India, Naqvi said.

"Rs 57 crore less will be paid to airlines this year even after ending the Haj subsidy," a statement from his office quoted the minister as saying at the event.

The government had in January announced that there would be no subsidy for Haj from this year and the funds saved will be used for providing education to people belonging to minority communities.

The decision was in line with a 2012 Supreme Court order, asking the government to do away with the subsidy.

Naqvi said in total 3,55,604 applications had been received for Haj, which included 1,89,217 male and 1,66,387 female.

For the first time, Muslim women from India are going for Haj without 'Mehram' (male companion). A total of 1,308 women are going for Haj this year without 'Mehram', he said, adding a large number of women Haj coordinators, Haj Assistants and 'Khadim Ul Hujjaj', doctors and para-medics have been deployed in Saudi Arabia.

A total of 98 Assistant Haj Officers, Haj Assistants, Haj Coordinators, doctors and para-medics have been deployed to assist the pilgrims.

This time, pilgrims were also given a choice of embarkation points, a step which has received an overwhelming response, Naqvi said.

At the event today, representatives from the Minority Affairs Ministry, Health Ministry and Urban Development Ministry informed the attendees in detail, various issues concerning Haj pilgrims, such as their health, safety and accommodation.

Flights for Haj will start from July 14, when pilgrims from Delhi, Gaya, Guwahati, Lucknow and Srinagar will embark on pilgrimage.

On July 17 pilgrims from Kolkata, on July 20 those from Varanasi, on July 21 from Mangalore, on July 26 from Goa and on July 29 pilgrims from Aurangabad, Chennai, Mumbai and Nagpur, will embark on Haj, a statement from the minister's office said.

On July 30, pilgrims from Ranchi, on August 1 pilgrims from Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad and Jaipur, and on August 3, pilgrims from Bhopal, will go for Haj, it said. (PTI)

Mumbai, Feb 17: Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday said strong nationalistic will power, transparency, honesty and hard work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved that country's progress and prosperity can be ensured even in a difficult atmosphere. 
Addressing a women training programme, organised by Maharashtra BJP Minority Morcha here, Mr Naqvi said that "champions of corruption" are unable to digest the atmosphere of trust and development. 
The Congress is leading such people who are trying to disturb the atmosphere of progress and prosperity created by the Modi government. 
The Modi Government has ensured atmosphere of "inclusive growth" in the country. This atmosphere of development is against the culture of "champions of secularism" who had been following the policy of "political exploitation", he said. 
Literacy rate among the Minorities especially Muslims is much below than the national average literacy rate which is a matter of concern he said, adding that the government has started a strong campaign for educational empowerment of Minorities to fill this gap.
He expressed concern saying that school dropout rate among Muslim girls, which is more than 72 per cent. To change the situation, the Modi Government has focused on educational empowerment of Muslim girls. UNI

New Delhi, Nov 21: Countering the Congress party’s allegation of government sabotaging the Winter Session, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Tuesday that the grand old party’s track record pertaining to Parliament is “tainted and it should not give us sermon”.
In a reply to a question from reporters here Mr Naqvi said it was the same Congress which had locked Parliament during the Emergency. “And now they were talking about Parliament democracy”! On Monday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi while addressing the Congress Working Committee had said that the Narendra Modi government in its arrogance had cast a dark shadow on India’s Parliamentary democracy by sabotaging the Winter Session of Parliament on flimsy grounds. 
“A number of times this had happened that when crucial elections take place in the country, the schedule for Parliament are prepared as per timing of the elections. This is not something new and this has happened many times during the Congress regime also,” Mr Naqvi said. Dismissing the Congress chief’s remark Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in turn attacked the party saying said that the Parliament sessions were often rescheduled to ensure they did not overlap with elections, and the party during its tenure had also done so in the past. Earlier in the day, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs will be soon meeting to decide on the dates for the Winter Session of Parliament. UNI

New Delhi, Oct 30: Around 100 Central Schools and Navodaya Vidyalayas will be opened in minority-dominated areas across the country in 2018, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday. Addressing a seminar on Minorities’ participation in building “New India” here, Mr Naqvi said these schools will have trained teachers for which funds will be provided by his Ministry. He said after holding discussions with the officials of these schools it was decided to open around 100 schools as the government’s priority was providing education to all sections of the society. The Minister added that mid-day meals would be provided to students studying in Madrasas. Moreover, the government would give 100 percent fund for constructing toilets. Stating that school dropouts was maximum among minorities, Mr Naqvi said to 40 to 50 skill development institutes would be opened in the country and 75 percent of the students will get employment. New Delhi, Oct 26: India is becoming a “Hub” of accessible and quality education where youths from across the world are coming for educational activities, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here on Thursday. During meeting with a 7-member delegation of “PINTA”, an NGO working in education field in Malaysia, at Antyodaya Bhawan, Mr Naqvi said the number of students coming to India from other countries for educational activities has been increased significantly during that last three years of the NDA Government. Mr Naqvi said education is the centre point of empowerment and Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government is working with commitment to provide accessible and quality education to every section of the society including Minorities. The delegation of “PINTA” discussed with Mr Naqvi, various programmes being run by Minority Affairs Ministry for educational empowerment of Minorities. Mr Naqvi informed the delegation about various schemes being run by the Central Government aimed at educational empowerment and employment-oriented skill development of Minorities such as “3Ts- Teacher, Tiffin & Toilet”, Garib Nawaz Skill Development Programme, Begum Hazrat Mahal Girl Scholarship and others. Mr Naqvi said a large number of Madrasas have been connected with “3Ts” and have been included into modern and mainstream education system. During the meeting, senior officials of Minority Affairs Ministry, Maulana Azad Education Foundation Secretary, foundation’s members and other intellectuals were also present. New Delhi, Aug 16 :  Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today met Saudi Arabia Ambassador Dr Mohammed Alsati and discussed the reviving of sending the Hajj pilgrims through sea route. Mr Naqvi said a meeting on reviving the option of Hajj pilgrims through sea route will be held under the chairmanship of Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on August 28, which will also be attended by senior officials of the Minority Affairs Ministry. He also thanked the Saudi Arabia government for responding very positively to the suggestion. The Minister said providing world class facilities to Hajj pilgrims was the main agenda of the new Hajj Policy, which is going to be unveiled soon. UNI

New Delhi, Jul 24:  Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) & Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today flagged off the first batch of 300 Haj pilgrims from New Delhi Airport. Extending his wishes to Haj pilgrims, Mr Naqvi said that the Ministry of Minority Affairs, in cooperation with Haj Committee and other concerned agencies, had completed preparations for Haj 2017 well before in time to ensure smooth Haj pilgrimage. The Minister said the new Haj Policy 2018, aimed at making the pilgrimage process transparent and smooth, will be finalised soon. He said a high-level committee constituted in this regard will soon submit its report. Mr Naqvi said that reviving the option of sending Haj pilgrims through sea route also is part of the new policy. He said, "sending pilgrims through ships will help cut down travel expenses by nearly half as compared to airfares. It will be a revolutionary, pro-poor, pilgrim-friendly decision. The practice of ferrying Haj pilgrims between Mumbai and Jeddah by waterways was stopped from 1995." Mr Naqvi said, "Another advantage with ships available these days is they are modern and well-equipped to ferry 4,000 to 5,000 persons at a time. They can cover the 2,300-odd nautical miles one-side distance between Mumbai and Jeddah within just two-three days. Earlier, the old ships used to take 12 to 15 days to cover this distance." Besides Delhi, Haj pilgrims are going to Saudi Arab today from embarkation points in Goa, Guwahati, Lucknow, Mangalore, Varanasi, Srinagar and Kolkata today. Haj Flights will also go from Gaya, Ranchi, Kolkata, Bhopal and Bangalore, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Chennai, Cochin & Jaipur and Indore and Hyderabad. UNI
