New Delhi, Apr 19: Studying in India will now be easier for foreign students who want to pursue education in prominent Indian educational institutions with the launch of ‘Study in India’ programme here.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of State for Human Resource Development (HRD) Satya Pal Singh jointly launched the portal (www.studyinindia.gov.in) at the India Habitat Centre here.
Ms Swaraj launching the portal on Wednesday to help interested students get information about the institutions and register and apply to the programmes of choice, said 'the quest for knowledge has always been fundamental to India’s culture and civilisation. We can rightly say that India is one of the very few places in the world where ancient traditions and modernity coexist in harmony.'
The 'Study in India' is aimed at attracting students from countries in South Asia, South-East Asia, Middle East and Africa to study in the top educational institutions in India. This will be achieved through systematic brand-building, identifying quality institutions for receiving the students, creating suitable infrastructure and facilitation structures. The portal will become a single window to cover all aspects relating to studying in India for foreign students.
Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar in a video message said the initiative would open the gates of prominent educational institution of India to foreign students. To begin with the focus was on students of 30 Asian, African, Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries and hoped that families from America will send their children to India for under graduate courses one day.
He noted that India had been the education hub of world education, in a reference to the long heritage of Nalanda and Takshashila.
'Graded autonomy will help educational institutions to expand on their own; they can improve their programmes, launch new programmes as per the need. They can take in foreign faculty and foreign students,' he added. Because of the recent reforms in education sector, India had become a prominent centre for affordable and quality education.
Dr Satya Pal Singh expressed gratitude towards Ms Swaraj for launching the portal, saying that for the first time, prominent Indian educational institutions have been opened up under the programme which would benefit not only to the foreign students but also to India.
Delivering the welcome speech, HRD Secretary (Higher Education) R Subrahmaniyam said this year 15, 000 seats have been offered by 160 institutions under the programme. Dr S B Majumdar, founder President, Symbiosis International University was also felicitated by Ms Swaraj on the occasion.

New Delhi, Apr 3: The Central Board of Education (CBSE) on Tuesday decided not to conduct re-exam of Class 10th Maths examination in Delhi NCR and Haryana.
Education Secretary Anil Swarup confirmed the news on Twitter.
"Consequent to the preliminary evaluation of the impact of reportedly leaked CBSE class 10 maths paper and keeping in mind the paramount interest of students, CBSE has decided not to conduct re-examination even in the states of Delhi NCR and Haryana. Hence, no re-exam for class 10," twitted Mr Swarup.
Earlier, the HRD Ministry said that after thorough investigation, the decision of retest of Class 10 Maths exam would be taken in 15 days. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 29: Describing the leakage of the Class 12 Economic board examination and the Class 10 Maths exam as a result of the ‘complete apathy’ and ‘deliberate negligence’ by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Central Board for Secondary Education, the Congress on Thursday demanded the sacking of HRD Minister Prakash Jawadekar and CBSE chairman Anita Karwal to fix accountability for the incidents.
Addressing a press conference here, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala, the Jt Secretary incharge for the NSUI Ruchi Gupta and AICC National Media panelist Ragini Nayak, said,’’the leak of the CBSE exams has exposed the capture of highest academic institutions by the ‘Exam Mafia’ under the watch of the Modi Government , as also absolute abdication of authority by HRD Minister Prakash Jawadekar and CBSE Chairperson Anita Karwal.
It is time to fix accountability and sack the HRD Minister and the CBSE chairperson..’’
Charging the Modi government of spreading the ‘Vyapam Virus’ across the country, Mr Surjewala said,’’first they nurtured the ‘Vyapam Virus’ in Madhya Pradesh, then they spread the same patented virus throughout the country in the multi layered SSC Scam and now they have not even spared our students. Encouraging ‘Exam Mafia’ has become the bedrock of BJP’s policies.
It is absolutely shocking and heart rendering that the future of 24 Lakh students is in severe jeopardy as the Modi Government officially admits that 2 CBSE papers- ‘Economics Examination Paper’ for Class XII leaked on March 26 and ‘Mathematics Examination Paper’ for Class X boards leaked on Wednesday, almost an hour before the students sat for the exam. ‘’
Describing report of leak of the two newspapers as “the tip of the iceberg”, Mr Surjewala said,’’It may just turn out to be the tip of the iceberg as multiple news reports and social media stories on how the Biology, Chemistry and English papers have also been leaked are also surfacing now. Despite registration of an FIR and an enquiry, shockingly; CBSE has admitted the leak of 3 exam papers.’’
Alleging multiple instances of bungling and malfeasance in the CBSE under the Modi Government, Mr Surjewala said,’’there were errors in the evaluation of Class XII board exam papers in the year 2017. Then there is the practice of inflating marks in board examinations.
Also notable is the alleged setting of tough questions in the NEET exam in regional languages. (MPs from Bengal and Tamil Nadu had complained about the nature of questions being asked to students taking the NEET in their mother tongue.) Coincidentally the officials in key positions at both SSC and CBSE are handpicked IAS officers of Prime Minister from the time he was Gujarat Chief Minister i.e Mr Ashim Khurana and Ms Anita Karwal. ‘’ UNI
