SRINAGAR, JUNE 23: Governor N.N. Vohra, Chairman Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, accompanied by Shri Umang Narula, CEO of the Shrine Board, visited the Sheshnag and reviewed the security and other arrangements being made to receive the pilgrims at the Sheshnag Yatra Camp, who would start arriving on 28th June. Governor directed the Camp Director and other functionaries to particularly ensure effective sanitary arrangements in respect of the functioning of toilet and bath units and the day to day cleaning of the Camp areas. 
After Sheshnag Governor visited the Pahalgam Helipad where he inaugurated the newly constructed Waiting Hall for the Yatris who would be travelling by the helicopter services to Panjtarni. He appreciated the Pahalgam Development Authority’s initiative to establish this facility which will be beneficial for all the pilgrims and tourists visiting Pahalgam. Thereafter, Governor, accompanied by CEO and Additional CEO Shrine Board; DIG South Kashmir; DIG CRPF; and DC and SSP Anantnag proceeded by road to Chandanwari and inspected the ongoing works to upgrade the Chandanwari Access Control Gate. He also visited the area where Langars, shops and other facilities are being set up.
After Chandanwari, Governor returned to the Nunwan Yatra Base Camp and held a meeting with Central Armed Police Forces, representatives of the Army, Police and all concerned Divisional and District Level officers.
Governor reviewed, in detail, all important matters relating to the security of movements of the pilgrims and of the Service Providers who had already started arriving. He specifically directed DIG, South Kashmir, to ensure complete coordination with CRPF, BSF, ITBP, Army and the Traffic Police and secure adequate advance information about all Yatra related vehicular movements from Banihal onwards, both towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
 Governor also reviewed the status of water supply, electricity, rations including cooking gas, firewood and medical facilities at each of the Yatra Camps visited by him. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that all toilet and bath units, at every Camp location, are effectively connected with waste disposal systems and foolproof arrangements are made for maintaining cleanliness of the toilet facilities at all times and regular doses of microbial consortium are added by the agency responsible for ensuring sanitation; Lay Out Plan prepared for each Camp location is strictly adhered to and the tents, shops and langars are pitched strictly as per the Lay Out Plan, with adequate fire gaps between them. He was informed that the STP at Nunwan is being upgraded to 300 KLD capacity using the latest MBBR technology and will made functional before the start of Yatra.

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 04: To promote responsible adventure tourism, the Department of Tourism Kashmir in collaboration with J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) conducted a cleanliness drive along Chandanwari to Sheshnag Lake trail and collected waste products and garbage.
Around 30 member team of JKMHC took part in the cleanliness drive on October 30. The team was led by hiker Nawab Moazam Khan.
The team trekked 7 kilometers from Chandanwari to Sheshnag during which they collected polythene bags, wrappers, plastic bottles and other refuse.
The garbage was handed over to the J&K Pahalgam Development Authority for proper disposal.
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood Shah who is also the president of JKMHC said the cleanliness drive is necessary to keep environment clean and preserve fragile ecology.
He said during summers the trekking routes in Kashmir receive huge rush of hikers and it was mandatory to organize cleanliness drive to aware the people about the importance of preserving environment.
“It is our collective responsibility to preserve our environment. The drive will also create awareness among the masses about keeping the environment clean,” said Shah.
Director Tourism Kashmir informed that the department has jointly carried out several such cleaning drives with JKMHC in the past and they will carry similar drive along Baltal trail.
“We are committed to promote responsible adventure tourism in the state.”

Earlier also the department organised such drives at tourist resorts like Gulmarg, Aharbal and TRC as part of the nation-wide Swachhata Hi Seva mission.

Pahalgam, Aug 5 :  'Bam Bam Bholay' and 'Har Har Mahadev' rented in the air when “Chhari Mubarak”, the holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva, left Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional yatra route, for Sheshnag on way to holy Amarnath cave shrine on the occasion of “ tryodashi”. After pujan and other rituals, the devotees led by Mahant Deependra Giri, left Chandanwari for Sheshnag this morning. The Chhari had reached Chandanwari yesterday afternoon from Pahalgam where it had reached from Srinagar after having pujan at several places on way on August 2 evening. Mahant Giri said On “ Chaturdashi” tomorrow, Chhari will leave from Sheshnag from 0700 hrs for a night halt at Panchtarni. He said on ‘ Raksha Bandhan” on August 7 “ Sharavan Purnima”, the Chhari will proceed for the holy Cave for Punjan at 0700 hrs from Panchtarni. Traditional rituals shall be performed and prayers offered the whole day at the shrine. However, before dusk, Chhari-Mubarak shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani, he said, adding that from there charri will leave for night halt at Pahalgam at 0700 hrs on August 8. On August 9 ‘Dvitiya Pujan’ and ‘Visarjan’ ceremonies shall be performed at 0915 hrs on the bank of river Lidder at Pahalgam. Thereafter, traditional ‘Kari-Pakouri’ Bhandara shall be organized for Sadhus. With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath Ji shall culminate. Chhari-Mubarak shall return to its Abode Ameshwar temple Desknami Akahtar at Srinagar. UNI

Pahalgam, Aug 4 : The 'Chhari Mubarak', holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva today left this base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional yatra route to holy Amarnath cave shrine on the occasion of “ Dwadashi”. After pujan and other rituals, the devotees, led by Mahant Deependra Giri, left this afternoon for Chandanwari for a night halt there. The 'Chhari' had reached here from Srinagar after having pujan at several places on way on August 2 evening. Mahant Giri, custodian of the 'Chhari' said before the eruption of militancy in early 90s the 'Chhari Mubarak' was taken in a procession from Dashnami Akhara shortly after sunset for a night halt at Durga Nag temple in Srinagar. Now the 'Chhari Mubarak' is leaving in the morning to reach Pahalgam on same day in a vehicle with halts at some places on way. Now 'Chhari Mubarak' was being taken from Srinagar to here though with some pujan at several places on the way on the same day. After night halt at Chandanwari, the 'chhari' will leave for Sheshnag at 0700 hrs for a night halt there tomorrow on “ tryodashi”, he said . On “Chaturdashi” on August 6, 'chhari' will leave from Sheshnag from 0700 hrs for a night halt at Panchtarni. Mahant Giri said the 'Chhari Mubarak' will be taken inside the cave on August 7 for final puja on the concluding day of the 40-day-long pilgrimage this year. He said on Raksha Bandhan on August 7 “Sharavan Purnima” 'Chhari Mubarak' will proceed for holy cave for Pujan at 0700 hrs from Panchtarni. Traditional rituals shall be performed & prayers shall be offered the whole day at holy cave. However, before dusk, 'Chhari Mubarak' shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani, he said, adding from there chhari will leave for night halt at Pahalgam at 0700 hrs on August 8. SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Governor N.N. Vohra, Chairman Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, accompanied by Shri Umang Narula, CEO of the Shrine Board, visited the Sheshnag Yatra Camp and held discussions with Col Manas Misra, CO of the 8th Madras Bn, Shri Atul Gupta Camp Director, Shri C.K. Sharma, Additional Camp Director, officers of BSF, CRPF, JK Police and other concerned Departments and reviewed the security and other arrangements being made to receive the Yatris at this Camp who would start arriving on 29th June, the day on which the Shri Amarnathji Yatra commences. The Governor directed the Camp Director and other functionaries of the Board to particularly ensure effective sanitary arrangements in respect of the functioning of latrines and toilets and, day to day cleaning of the entire Camp, collection and disposal of degradable and non-biodegradable garbage. 
Governor took an aerial recce of the Yatra route to observe the repair work which is under way and, thereafter, landed in Pahalgam from where he proceeded, by road, to Chandanwari along with the CEO and Additional CEO Shrine Board, DIG South Kashmir, DIG CRPF, DC and SSP Anantnag and inspected the ongoing work to establish the Control Gate Chandanwari and set up the Langars, shops and other facilities at this place. The Governor directed Shri Sukhpal Singh, Camp Director Chandanwari to very strictly ensure that the Control Gates shall be opened and closed as per the time schedule already settled and that he, along with the Police and Security officials, must see that no person without a valid Yatra Permit was allowed to enter the tracks.
After the visit to Chandanwari the Governor held a meeting at the Yatra Base Camp Nunwan where, along with the officers who had accompanied him to Chandanwari, he held discussions which also involved: SSP Security (Kashmir); SSP Rural; Police Yatra Officer Pahalgam; Commandant 116 Bn CRPF; S.E. R&B; S.E. PDD; CEO Pahalgam Development Authority; Camp Director and Additional Camp Director Nunwan Yatra Camp; Dy Director Fire and Emergency Services; CMO; SDM Pahalgam; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; ARTO; District Information Officer; Depot Manager JKSRTC; A.D. Tourism; Assistant Labour Commissioner; ADMO (ISM&H), SDE BSNL; DFO; EO Municipal Committee Qazigund; Secretary Municipal Committee Anantnag; Manager JKTDC; EO Municipal Committee Pahalgam; Assistant Director FCS & CA Anantnag; and XEN PMGSY.
In this meeting the Additional CEO Shrine Board, Shri Jitendra Kumar Singh and Dy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, made detailed item-wise presentations on the arrangements already made and those under way for the forthcoming Yatra. Consequent to discussions the Governor: directed the Dy Commissioner and other concerned officers to ensure that Pony-wallas along with their Ponies, Dandi-wallas, Palki-wallas and Pithus were registered and provided with laminated photo identity cards before they entered the Yatra area; directed GM Works, Shrine Board to ensure that all toilets and baths, at every Camp location, are effectively connected with waste disposal systems and round the clock arrangements are made for maintaining cleanliness of the toilet facilities;  Deputy Commissioner and CMO Anantnag will ensure that every Medical Camp is equipped with the required medical and para-medical man power, diagnostic equipments, medicines, and oxygen concentrators; CMO would ensure that the required equipments and adequate medicines were stocked at each of the Medical Aid Centres and Emergency Aid Centres along the entire Yatra route and all Medical Centres should be provided with water supply and toilet facilities; and Superintending Engineer PHE Department shall ensure daily testing of water samples at all Yatra Camps.

The Governor also held discussions with CEO Shrine Board, DIG South, DIG CRPF Awantipora, SSP Security (Kashmir), Deputy Commissioner and SSP Anantnag on several matters relating to the security of movements of the pilgrims and of the Service Providers who had already started arriving. He specifically directed DIG, South, to ensure perfect coordination with CRPF and the Traffic Police and secure adequate advance information about all Yatra related vehicular movements from Banihal onwards, towards Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
