Anantnag, June 27  :   Ahead of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2019, exercise for Mock drill was held at Pahalgam today, in presence of camp Director Nunwan Base camp, CEO,PDA, Pahalgam, Tehsildar Pahalgam, Engineers and Officers of PDD, PHE, I&FC Anantnag Circle, ARTO Anantnag, Assistant Labour Commissioner Anantnag SDPO Aishmugam, SHO and Tehsildar Pahalgam and other senior officers of Police, Army CRPF, NDRF SDRF, and other officers.

On the occasion, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Consultant Retd. Brig. Kuldeep Singh said officers conducted mock drill at Base camp Nunwan and Bus Ada Pahalgam for the smooth and successful conduct of Yatra 2019. He highlighted the challenges during the Yatra and the ways to deal with exigencies.

He also said that aim of the Mock exercise is to aware the departments to prepare for any kind of agencies for the upcoming Yatra 2019.In Mock drill exercise, the officials NDMA, SDRF,Civil defense, Fire & Emergency services also participated 

The consultant NDMA stressed for well planning, better coordination and better response among the various participating agencies including NDMA, SDRF, JK Police & other agencies. He urged upon all the officers to identify the gaps, prepare objective tasks, challenges, resources, problem areas & remedial measures to be taken in case of any eventuality. The consultant asked the concerned department to arrange two Hamilton Saddles for each camp for the rescue of the Yatries during exigencies.

Higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Thursday while the plains witnessed intermittent rains as the minimum temperature settled below the freezing point at most places in the Valley and Ladakh region. Snowfall has been recorded in the higher areas of the valley like Qazigund, Kokernag, Pahalgam and Mughal Road during the night, MeT officials said.


Srinagar, Dec 13 (PTI) Higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Thursday while the plains witnessed intermittent rains as the minimum temperature settled below the freezing point at most places in the Valley and Ladakh region.

Snowfall has been recorded in the higher areas of the valley like Qazigund, Kokernag, Pahalgam and Mughal Road during the night, MeT officials said.

There are reports of snowfall in other areas in the higher reaches of the valley and Jammu region as well including near the Jawahar Tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, they said.

However, the plains in the valley, including Srinagar, received intermittent rains overnight which continued Thursday morning in some areas, the officials said.

The snowfall and rains have led to closure of traffic on vital roads including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

The nearly 300-km long highway was closed for traffic on Wednesday following accumulation of snow on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel, an official of the Traffic Control Room said.

He said subject to fair weather and clearance of the road, the vehicles which were stranded Wednesday would be cleared first on Thursday.

Mughal Road, which is an alternate route connecting the valley with Jammu region, remained closed for traffic due to snowfall.

The Srinagar-Leh National Highway, connecting the valley with Ladakh region, is also closed for traffic due to snow accumulation at Zojilla.

Meanwhile, the valley and Ladakh region, except Srinagar, witnessed sub-zero night temperature last night.

Srinagar city recorded a low of 0.1 degrees Celsius last night, compared to the previous night's 0.2 degrees Celsius, the MeT officials said.

They said Qazigund -- the gateway town to the valley -- recorded a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius while the nearby Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara in north Kashmir saw the mercury settling at minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, the officials said.

They said Pahalgam health resort, which serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, registered a low of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, saw the mercury dipping to a minimum of minus 9.5 degrees Celsius last night - which was colder than Leh and Kargil.

Gulmarg was the coldest recorded place in the state.

Leh town in Ladakh region recorded a minimum temperature of minus 8.9 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in the nearby Kargil town settled at a low of minus 9.3 degrees Celsius, the officials said.

The MeT Office has said the weather is likely to improve from Thursday and would stay mainly dry over the next few days.

PAHALGAM, AUGUST 01: SDM, Pahalgam reviewed the preparedness of the Independence Day Celebrations – 2018 here today in a meeting at Town Hall Pahalgam.
The meeting was informed that flag hoisting shall take place at 09:00 am sharp. It was given out that all the sectoral officers shall ensure their presence and the presence of their subordinate staff on the Day.
Threadbare discussions with regard to the decoration of the main venue ground, seating arrangements, uninterrupted power supply, drinking water service, medical aid camp, availability of ambulance, deployment of fire tenders, transportation facilities, invitations, cleanliness, sanitation measures & other concerned were held in the meeting.

Jammu, Jul 28: A fresh batch of 663 pilgrims today left for the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.

The 60-day yatra commenced from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district.

Over the past week, the number of pilgrims joining the yatra has marked a sharp dip.

The pilgrims, which included 485 males, 85 females and 93 sadhus left in a convoy of 21 vehicles under tight security arrangements and are expected to reach the twin base camps of Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal later in the day, the officials said.

Earlier, a smaller batch of 667 pilgrims left Jammu for the ongoing yatra on July 26.

The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 26 coinciding with 'Raksha Bandhan' festival.

The annual Amarnath yatra yesterday crossed 2.50 lakh mark as 2,776 pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Lord Shiva.

"On the 30th day of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra yesterday, 2,776 yatris paid obeisance at the holy cave. Till date 2,51,996 yatris had the darshan of the Shivling at the holy cave," official said. (PTI)

Jammu, Jul 18: A 61-year-old woman pilgrim from Maharashtra, who was injured in a road accident, died at a hospital here, while the 18th batch of "yatris" left Jammu today to join the annual Amarnath Yatra, officials said.

The 60-day yatra to the cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in the south Kashmir Himalayas, began on the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag district on June 28.

Over two lakh pilgrims had paid their obeisance at the cave shrine till last evening. The "yatra" is scheduled to end on August 26.

The woman pilgrim, identified as Gaya Bhai Kaile, was admitted to the GMC hospital after being hit by a vehicle near the Saraswati Dham railway station here on July 15. She succumbed to injuries last evening, the officials said.

They said the woman was part of a group which had arrived in the city and was getting registration for the "yatra" when the incident occurred.

Her death raised the number of people killed in the ongoing "yatra" to 27, the officials said, adding this was the third "yatri" death reported in Jammu region.

They said the 18th batch of 1,983 pilgrims left Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a fleet of 59 vehicles under tight security cover in the wee hours today. (PTI)

Jammu, Jul 17: The 17th batch of Amarnath pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here today for the holy cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas, police said.

The footfall of pilgrims at the shrine located at an altitude of 3,880 metres was expected to cross the two-lakh mark today, they added.

"A total of 2,201 pilgrims, including 544 women and 149 sadhus, left for Kashmir from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a convoy of 74 vehicles, under tight security arrangements, in the wee hours today," a police official said.

He added that this was the 17th batch of pilgrims to leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp, taking the total number of "yatris" undertaking the pilgrimage under security arrangements to 63,314.

Till last evening, 1,97,442 pilgrims had paid obeisance at the cave shrine, officials said.

Among the pilgrims in the latest batch, 1,344, including 238 women and 149 sadhus, would reach Pahalgam to take the 36-km traditional route to the cave shrine, while 857, including 306 women, would take the shorter (12-km) Baltal route, the police official said.

The 60-day annual "yatra" began on the twin routes of Baltal in Ganderbal and Pahalgam in Anantnag on June 28 and is scheduled to conclude on August 26, coinciding with "Raksha Bandhan". (PTI)

Jammu, June 29: Braving heavy rains which briefly halted traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the third batch of 2,876 pilgrims today left here for the base camps in Kashmir Valley to pay obeisance at the shrine of Amarnath, officials said.

The pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a fleet of 90 vehicles under tight security at around 0630 hours, braving rains which lashed wide parts of Jammu and Kashmir for the third day today, the officials said.

Heavy rains in Banihal-Udhampur sector had triggered landslides and shooting of stones at four places at Panthal, Nedgard, Digdol and Samroli this morning, blocking the 260-km highway - the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with rest of the country, the officials said.

However, they said the agencies concerned pressed men and machines into service and after hectic efforts cleared the blockade in the shortest possible time at around 0915 hours, allowing stranded vehicles to move towards their destinations.

The blocking of the highway resulted in traffic jam at several places and efforts are on to ensure smooth flow of vehicles, the officials said.

The 60-day annual pilgrimage started from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district yesterday with the first batch of over 1000 people offering prayers at the cave shrine housing the naturally formed ice-lingam.

The officials said the pilgrims were allowed only after getting the road clearance and are expected to reach the base camps of Nunwan-Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district later in the day.

However, no 'sadhu' and children are among the pilgrims who left in the third batch today, they said adding while 2032 pilgrims including 315 women opted for the traditional 36-km Pahalgam route, 844 pilgrims including 229 women chose to perform the yatra from the 12-km shortest Baltal route.

With the departure of the third batch, a total of 9305 pilgrims had left the base camp here for the pilgrimage since June 27.

Over two lakh pilgrims have so far registered for the yatra which is scheduled to conclude on August 26 coinciding with the festival of 'Raksha Bandhan'.  (PTI)

PAHALGAM, MAY 17: Minister for Tourism Tassaduq Hussain Mufti Wednesday convened a meeting of officers to review development works being executed by various agencies in Pahalgam.
MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahamd Wani, Vice Chairman  Rafi Ahmad Mir, Secretary Tourism Rigzin Samphel, Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani and other officers of Tourism, PDA and district administration attended the meeting.
The Minister stressed upon the need for improved coordination among departments including PDA, PWD R&B, UEED, PHE, PDD, Health, Education and Tourism Department so that targets are achieved within stipulated time.    
He said the proposed ‘Pahalgam Master Plan’ needs to be in sync with Court dirtections and in conformity with fragile ecosystem of the area. The Minister directed the concerned for finalizing report within the time period of 40 days. 
Mufti took a serious note on various issues which include Filling of River Lidder at Yenner and Nunwan, Widening of Khanabal Pahalgam Road, extraction of River bed material, Plantation at Pahalgam, and issues related to the tourism department in the area. He directed for taking concrete measures to improve the infrastructural and sanitation scenario in the area.
The Minister laid stress on scientific disposal of waste, sanitation and waste segregation process at source, besides activating of Enforcement wing of Municipal Commission Pahalgam for curbing the menace of throwing garbage on the River Bank, road side, and in the Forest area.
He also asked concerned for preparing a road map for various ingenious plant species plantation and causes of Forest fires with remedial measures being taken by the Forest Department to avoid such incidents in future.
Emphasizing on the need for sustainable development without harming ecology, flora and fauna of the area, the Minister directed the concerned officials for taking action against people involved in harming ecology and environment.
He sought details regarding conservation of water reservoirs at Pahalgam and directed the PHE officials for installing mesh type roofing of over water sources without any further delay so that wild animals would not contaminate the drinking water sources.
Besides, directing for furnishing test reports of STP Pahalgam on regular basis, the Minister also sought detailed water quality analysis reports and directed for conducting regular water quality tests to keep check on the quality of drinking water being supplied in the area.   
He asked for regular checking of hotel STPs to monitor quality of sewage treatment and management of solid waste.
While seeking details regarding the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report, the Minister said the forests play an important role in preserving the fragile eco-system, biodiversity and natural habitat. He stressed for regulating ponies through specified tracks to avoid shortcuts causing damage to forest habitat.
Besides, keeping check on exorbitant charges by pony wallas, the Minister directed for stopping washing of Vehicles on road sides and River Bank contaminating the water bodies.
Earlier, the Minister visited various schools in the Pahalgam vicinity and directed the concerned officials to strengthen the existing infrastructure in schools.
Later, the Minister also convened a public meeting to interact with the local tourism stockholders and gave patient hearing to the grievances and issues raised by them.

ANANTNAG, MARCH 15:  The meeting of Building Operations Controlling Authority (BOCA) of Pahalgam Development Authority was held today under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik.
Threadbare discussions were held for 29 cases relating to repairs/ renovation and reconstruction at Pahalgam by the BOCA out of which 04 cases were approved by the committee and for making necessary repairs and renovation in the residential houses without changing the interior design at Pahalgam. Five cases were rejected and others deferred for want of commits by the CPT.
Chief Executive officer PDA was directed to refer the remaining cases to the Chief Town Planner, Kashmir. The DDC directed him to circulate the files of these cases among other members of the BOCA for time bond report. DDC also directed CEO for making survey and assessment of the material on spot to be used for repair and renovation work.
The meeting was attended by the BOCA members including CEO, PDA Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, SDM, Pahalgam, Mohammad Ashraf, Chief Town Planner, Kashmir and other members of the committee.

JAMMU, JANUARY 16 – Minister for Health & Medical Education Bali Bhagat today informed the Legislative Council that government has released Rs 3 crore for up-gradation of NTPHC Pahalgam.
He said that the funds have been provided under National Health Mission (NHM) but work on the project has not been taken up due to imposition of ban on construction work in the area.
The Minister was replying to a question of legislator Sofi Yousuf.  
          Meanwhile, the Minister informed that NTPHC Kullar is entitled to one post of doctor and the vacancy would be filled after    recruitment against the already advertised posts was completed.    He however said that one doctor engaged under NHM has been posted at NTPHC Kullar.

The Minister said that the proposal for up-gradation of PHC Srigufwara is under examination of the government.

          PAHALGAM, NOVEMBER 06  The Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Mohammed Younis Malik today chaired a meeting of the officers at Pahalgam club to take stock of the implementation status of CM directions and other issues related to development.
          On the occasion, the DC directed for taking effective steps for preventing forest fires as the dry spell is expected to continue. He directed the SDM Pahalgam to constitute a control room of the officers of Forest, Revenue, Municipality and Police departments so that immediate action is taken in case of forest fires. He called upon the DFO to ensure adequate deployment in forest areas, besides, increasing the frequency of supervision. He also called for roping in with the disaster management volunteers and locals for effective responses.
 Keeping in view the sensitivities of Pahalgam, the DDC directed the police to ensure that no vehicle carrying building material be allowed to enter  Pahalgam  without proper permission. Besides, SDM and CEO PDA were directed to ensure that no illegal construction takes place within the jurisdiction of Pahalgam Development Authority.
          While taking stock of the implementation of CM instructions, the DDC was informed that development of 50 kanals of Aru as Lavender Village is under execution. In this regard, he directed the officers of Floriculture Department to expedite the process. Besides, the officer said that the work on the development of Rose & Tulip Garden is going on. In addition, AD Tourism informed that development of ropeway facilities at Aru has been surveyed by the State Cable Car Corporation. 
 It was given out that over bridge connecting Golf Course with amusement park shall be launched after the shifting of HT line. The concerned engineer of R&B informed that 8 kms of the 12 kms roads have been macadamised so far. 
          The CEO PDA apprised the DDC that approach road to Betab Valley has been upgraded. Besides, the beautification of circuit road is also going on. He further informed that two parking slots have been developed and the other space adjacent to Municipality Office is being worked upon.
          The DC directed the EO Municipality to ensure the sanitation and cleanliness of the town owing to the fragile ecosystem of Pahalgam. He exhorted upon ensuring complete check on use of  polythene .
The other issues  like the development of sports infrastructure, availability of essential food items, waste management     , power and water availability were also reviewed.

         The meeting was attended by CEO PDA, SDM Pahalgam, Commanding Officers of security agencies, SDPO, Tehsildar and other officers of PHE, PDD, R&B, Tourism, Wildlife, Municipality, Geology & Mining, J&K PDC, Forest, Floriculture and other departments.

Festival is aimed to attract tourists in winter months, will also organize food festival at Hyderabad and Lucknow: MD JKTDC


PAHALGAM, SRINAGAR 13: The ongoing 3-day Pahalgam Festival that began at the tourist resort on Thursday witnessed a huge participation from tourists as well as locals. The festival is organized by J&K Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) to attract tourists in the offseason and also promote local culture and local food.
MD JKTDC Sarmad Hafeez said, “Pahalgam is primarily a summer destination however such events would attract the tourists in fall and winter months also. This event is an invitation to traveler across country and outside the country to visit the Valley and Pahalgam in winter months also.”
Sarmad Hafeez said local food preparations have been the major attraction of the festival at Pahalgam. Number of food varieties was prepared by local chefs at the lawns of the Pahalgam Club overlooking flowing River Lidder bringing many food aficionados of the locality together. The prepared foods include Carp fish cooked with radish and collard which is one of the most cherished delicacies in Kashmir mostly prepared in winter months. The other prepared dishes include grilled trout of river Lidder topped with mouthwatering mutton barbecues.
Products of the Valley’s famed handicrafts like papier-mâché, wood carving, willow works, embroidered namda, and chain stitch items besides horticulture produce like apple, pear, dry fruits and honey were also showcased during the festival.
The festival also features painting and photography exhibition of the Valley’s beautiful landscape. Photographs including landscape and buildings depicting local architecture were put on display.
During the festival cultural programs were held at Pahalgam Club. Local artists performed various cultural programs and skits which mesmerized the audiences. The audience was also enthralled by the melodious voice of Valley’s famous singer Rashid Jehangir and Shazia Bashir who sung famous Kashmiri numbers.
JKTDC also plans to organize more such festivals at other tourist destinations like Gulmarg and also outside the state.
“Our food is very famous and is also tasty. We want to showcase our local food outside the state. We will organize food festival at Hyderabad and Lucknow,” Sarmad Hafeez said.

Tourism Department, Pahalgam Hotels and Restaurant Owners Association (PHAROA), Pahalgam Development Authority and J&K Cultural Academy provided active support to the festival. Meanwhile, the Pahalgam hoteliers have announced 50% off on the hotel accommodation which also attracted both locals and tourists to this resort.

Directs digitization of records, speedy disposal of cases


ANANTNAG, OCTOBER 07: Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed today visited court complexes of Principal and District Sessions Judge Anantnag and Sub-Judge Bijbehara and Pahalgam to take stock of developmental works there and directed fast-tracking pending cases.  
 He was accompanied by Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Mohammad Younis Malik and SSP Anantnag, Altaf Ahmad Khan.
During the visit, the Chief Justice interacted with the lawyers who presented their demands including the upgradation of facilities for the litigants, filling up of vacancies of Munsifs, chambers for the lawyers and other relating issues.
 “Ensuring fast-track disposal of court cases shall be our lasting contribution and every one of us needs to contribute in this regard,” he told the lawyers.
The Chief Justice said that technological interventions need to be introduced in all the courts and in this direction e-courts have been established for speedy disposal of the court cases. He said that Anantnag will be the first district where the digitization of records shall be introduced which will be a step towards going paperless.
The Chief Justice expected the judges and lawyers to work in tandem for the expeditious disposal of court cases. He directed that cases pending over 10 years should be disposed off within a month followed by prioritizing the cases which are pending for over 5 years. 
On the occasion, Justice Magrey said that "we are duty bound to provide timely deliverance of justice and to mitigate the miseries of litigants".  He said that 24 munsifs which have been recently appointed shall be posted which will to a large extent help in clearing the pendency of the courts. He also called upon the presidents of Bar Associations to encourage more lady lawyers in the practice.
Later, the Chief Justice visited the Sarnal area where 56 Kanals of land have been identified for construction of new District Court Complex. He directed the DC to submit the revenue documents to the Principal and District Sessions Judge, Anantnag so that DRP formulation and execution of work shall be taken up at an earliest.

On the occasion, Principal and District Sessions Judge, Syed Towkeer Ahmad, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mohammad Amin Mir, Additional District Judge, Masarat Jabeen, all Sub-Judges of subordinate courts, Presidents Bar Associations of Anantnag and Bijbehara and lawyers fraternity were present.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 11: The Department of Tourism and Jammu & Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC)  Sunday  organized a trek to Sourse Lake at Pahalgam.
Some 40 JKMHC members trekked to the Lake lying at an altitude 3750 meters above the sea level.
The trek to Sourse Lake follows a trek to Tulain Lake, lying at an altitude of 3684 meters above sea level, here on previous Sunday in which some 60 JKMHC members took part.
Pertinently, the Department of Tourism Kashmir conducts  Sunday  treks to inculcate the spirit of mountaineering and hiking among the local youth and bring about awareness about mountain trails and high-altitude lakes.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah, said the exercise is part of the Department’s commitment to promote adventure tourism in Kashmir as well as help the local youth in adventure activities.
“Kashmir has many trekking trails for which hikers from across the world visit this place. However, those trekkers need local guides and we are training our youth through such treks on regular basis,” he said.
The Directors also said Kashmir has famous high-altitude lakes which also need to be promoted and that the Department is targeting locals to explore the same, adding the latter will help them earn a decent livelihood by guiding non-local especially foreign trekkers. He said the Department has all the necessary equipment and gear for trekking expeditions.

The Department of Tourism has also published comprehensive trekking maps showing all the trekking routes.

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 18: The Department of Tourism, Kashmir, in collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) and JK Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) organized first of its kind Himalayan traverse expedition from Kargil to Pahalgam through the Suru La and Gulol Gali passes. The trekkers left from Kargil on August 11 and completed the expedition today.
It was the first Trans Himalayan Traverse from Kargil towards Suru Valley and Zanskar Valley and is one of the most challenging and thrilling trekking route for adventure lovers as compared to others Himalayan traverse.
The team comprised members from Tourism Department, JKMHC, AKTTA and Roots Ladakh who covered 72 kilometer distance in the expedition.
The team started from Maita in Suru Valley and while ascending the Shanshinala crossed Suru La which is 16142 feet high above the sea level to reach Sain Nala in upper Wadwan area of Kishtawar.
The team descended to reach Rangmarg meadow and then ascended the 14326 feet high Gulol Gali to reach Pahalgam.
Ghulam Rasool Lal from Tourism department, who was the team leader, said they surveyed and explored this Trans Himalayan Traverse to put the new trekking route on tourist map so that the interested tourists may get details about the route.
Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the main purpose to organize this expedition was to get young adventure tour operators exposed to long trekking expeditions.
He said this trekking expedition is one of the difficult routes and passes through most beautiful areas in the Western Himalayas.
“It can be a great attraction for adventure lovers and mountaineers,” he said.
Last year also, the Department organized trekking expedition through Chulig La besides organizing climbathon.
This year also Kargil marathon was organized to promote Kargil as an adventure destination besides bringing new trekking routes on tourism map of the world, the Director said.

Srinagar, Aug 14 :  After witnessing hot and humid conditions during the past about a fortnight, weather turned pleasant due to rain and overcast conditions since yesterday in Kashmir valley, where maximum and minimum temperatures dipped and settled several notches below normal. A Met department spokesperson told  that light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at many places over the state during the next 48 hours. The night temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, which received light to moderate rain since last evening, dipped a degree from yesterday and settled at 8 degrees Celsius, which is 4 degree below normal. “Since yesterday evening, the weather has turned pleasant much to the delight of the tourists, who have come from different parts of the country to evade hot weather. Despite intermittent rain, the tourists are out on the lush green slopes – enjoying horse riding, besides other activities,” a hotelier told  over the phone. After the mercury dipped and settled 4 degree below normal due to overnight rain, people in this summer capital woke up to a cloudy morning followed by intermittent rain. Against 17.1 degrees C recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Srinagar was 14.3 degree. The day temperature has also dipped due to overcast conditions and intermittent rain in the Srinagar city. The night temperatures at tourist resort Kukernag and border town of Kargil also dipped and settled at 13.7 degrees C and 11.6 degrees C respectively. However, the mercury at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir, and Kupwara in north Kashmir surged, it was still below normal. Against 11.8 degrees C recorded yesterday, the night temperature at Pahalgam was 12.8 degrees C while the mercury surged about a degree from yesterday and settled at 14.4 degrees C in Kupwara. The night temperature at Qazigund, gateway to Kashmir Valley, remained constant since yesterday at 14.4 degrees C, about 3 degree below normal. UNI

Srinagar, Aug 8 :  The “Chhari Mubarak”, the holy Mace of Lord Shiva, left Panjtarani for Pahalgam on way back to Amreshwar temple Deshnami Akhara here after paying obeisance on the last day of the 40-day-long pilgrimage at the cave shrine yesterday. This year, over 2.60 lakh pilgrims, including women and sadhus, paid obeisance at the cave shrine from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam tracks from June 29. After day-long pujan yesterday in the cave shrine on the occasion of Sharavan Purnima, Rakshabandan, Mahant Deependra Giri, carrying the Chharri, left for Panjtarani before the dusk. The Chhari left Panjartani at 0700 hrs on the occasion of “ Pratipada” for Pahalgam for a night halt there. On the occasion of “ Dvitiya” tomorrow ‘Pujan’ & ‘Visarjan’ ceremonies will be performed at 0915 hrs on the bank of river Lidder. Thereafter, traditional ‘Kari-Pakouri’ Bhandara shall be organised for sashus. With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath shall culminate. Chhari-Mubarak shall return to its abode at Srinagar. UNI

Pahalgam, Aug 4 : The 'Chhari Mubarak', holy Silver Mace of Lord Shiva today left this base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional yatra route to holy Amarnath cave shrine on the occasion of “ Dwadashi”. After pujan and other rituals, the devotees, led by Mahant Deependra Giri, left this afternoon for Chandanwari for a night halt there. The 'Chhari' had reached here from Srinagar after having pujan at several places on way on August 2 evening. Mahant Giri, custodian of the 'Chhari' said before the eruption of militancy in early 90s the 'Chhari Mubarak' was taken in a procession from Dashnami Akhara shortly after sunset for a night halt at Durga Nag temple in Srinagar. Now the 'Chhari Mubarak' is leaving in the morning to reach Pahalgam on same day in a vehicle with halts at some places on way. Now 'Chhari Mubarak' was being taken from Srinagar to here though with some pujan at several places on the way on the same day. After night halt at Chandanwari, the 'chhari' will leave for Sheshnag at 0700 hrs for a night halt there tomorrow on “ tryodashi”, he said . On “Chaturdashi” on August 6, 'chhari' will leave from Sheshnag from 0700 hrs for a night halt at Panchtarni. Mahant Giri said the 'Chhari Mubarak' will be taken inside the cave on August 7 for final puja on the concluding day of the 40-day-long pilgrimage this year. He said on Raksha Bandhan on August 7 “Sharavan Purnima” 'Chhari Mubarak' will proceed for holy cave for Pujan at 0700 hrs from Panchtarni. Traditional rituals shall be performed & prayers shall be offered the whole day at holy cave. However, before dusk, 'Chhari Mubarak' shall leave for night halt at Panchtarani, he said, adding from there chhari will leave for night halt at Pahalgam at 0700 hrs on August 8. On August 9 ‘Dvitiya Pujan’ & ‘Visarjan’ ceremonies shall be performed at 0915 hrs on the bank of river Lidder at Pahalgam. Thereafter, traditional ‘Kari-Pakouri’ Bhandara shall be organised for sadhus. With this last ritual, annual pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath Ji shall culminate and 'Chhari Mubarak' shall return to its Abode Ameshwar temple Desknami Akahtar at Srinagar. UNI

A fresh batch of 1,877 Amarnath pilgrims today left from yatri niwas base camp here amid 'bam bam bhole' chants for the holy cave shrine in South Kashmir.


Jammu, Jul 20 :  A fresh batch of 1,877 Amarnath pilgrims today left from yatri niwas base camp here amid 'bam bam bhole' chants for the holy cave shrine in South Kashmir. The pilgrims early this morning left in a cavalcade of 70 vehicles. The pilgrims comprised of 1,360 men, 492 women and 25 sadhus. Pilgrims left for Pahalgam and Baltal to perform the pilgrimage in 70 vehicles, including 38 buses and 31 light motor vehicles. "The yatra is smoothly heading on the highway," a police official said here. UNI
