Mumbai, Jun 26  :  As Shah Rukh Khan completed 27 years in Bollywood, the actor thanked his fans for giving him some space in their hearts.

The 53-year-old actor made his feature film debut in 1992's romantic drama "Deewana", which also starred Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti.

"I want to say a big thank you for 27 years in Indian cinema, which is exactly half my life time on Earth. I've ave been trying to entertain you for over 20 years, and some times I have succeeded, and many times I have failed. 

"So I want to thank you for bearing with me for so many years since I came on a motorcycle in a film called 'Deewana' singing 'Koi na koi chahiye' and rode right into your hearts. And you not only allowed me right into your hearts, but also allowed me to stay there for so many years. Thank you very much," Shah Rukh said in a video shared on his Twitter account as he recreated the hit song from the film.

The actor also used the opportunity to send across a message on traffic safety.

"It's a coincidence that my friends from a motorcycle company have sent me two motorcycles to try out the stunts I did in 'Deewana' 27 years ago. I am going to give it a shot, but this time there's a difference. I will make sure I am wearing a helmet. Always wear a helmet while riding a bike," he said.

Shah Rukh, who has not been having a good run at the movies for a while now, is currently taking time off acting.

Panaji, Oct 11 (PTI) Bollywood actor Prateik Babbar has refused to give his blood sample for analysis after he was booked by the Goa Police for rash driving, a police official said Thursday.

The police wanted his blood sample to check whether the actor, who is in his early 30s, was driving under the influence of alcohol, the official said.

Babbar's car allegedly dashed a scooter on the Panaji- Mapusa highway Wednesday evening following which a case of rash driving was registered against him.

"When Babbar was taken for medical examination at the state-run Asilo Hospital in Mapusa town, he refused to give his blood sample," Porvorim police station inspector Paresh Naik told PTI.

A case under the Motor Vehicles Act was registered, while a probe was on to check whether Babbar could also be booked under IPC sections as the scooter rider alleged that the actor threatened him after the mishap, he said.

Babbar has been called Thursday at the Porvorim police station for questioning, Naik added.

The complainant, Paulo Correa, 21, had Wednesday alleged that a car driven by Babbar dashed against his scooter when he was riding with his sister.

After the mishap there was an altercation and Babbar used filthy language against them, he alleged.

Babbar, on his part, filed a complaint against Correa, alleging that Correa smashed his car's window-shield, the police official said, adding that they have seized the car.

Prateik Babbar, the son of actors Raj Babbar and late Smita Patil, has worked in films like "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na", "Dhobi Ghat", "Dum Maro Dum" and "My Friend Pinto".

Mumbai, Oct 10 (PTI) Screen legend Dilip Kumar, who has been admitted to hospital, is responding to the treatment and will be soon discharged.

The 95-year-old actor is being treated for recurrent pneumonia at Lilavati Hospital.

Kumar's family friend Faisal Farooqui shared the news on the actor's official Twitter handle, saying Kumar might be discharged on Thursday.

"Lord be praised. @TheDilipKumar saab is responding to treatment and doing much better. If all goes well, as per doctors, he may be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. (Thursday afternoon). Insha'Allah. -FF" read the tweet.

Last month, the actor was admitted to hospital for the treatment of mild pneumonia. 

Known as the 'Tragedy King of Bollywood', Dilip Kumar has given memorable performances in films such as "Andaz", 'Aan', 'Madhumati', 'Devdas' and 'Mughal-e-Azam'.

Mumbai, Oct 8 (PTI) Priyanka Chopra's maiden Sikkimese production, "Pahuna" ("The Little Visitors") bagged two awards at SCHLINGEL International Children's Film Festival in Germany.


Written and directed by Pakhi A Tyrewala, the film won the trophies for Best Film (Jury Choice) and Special Mention by Professional Jury in The International Feature Film Category.

Produced under Priyanka and her mother Dr Madhu Chopra's banner Purple Pebble Pictures, "Pahuna" received an overwhelming response at the European Premiere of the film festival held on October 2 and 5.

"Pahuna" ("The Little Visitors") revolves around three Nepali children who get separated from their parents, escape the Maoists agitation in Nepal and flee to Sikkim.

Madhu said the film will always be very special film for the production house.

"When we started the journey of 'Pahuna', we didn't anticipate the film to go this far. But God has been kind and the film has resonated with the audience not just in India but across the globe. 

"I'm grateful to SCHLINGEL International Children's Film Festival for the recognition. Looking forward to many more such milestones," the co-producer said in a statement.

"Pahuna" had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year.

Mumbai, Oct 3: Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in a light-hearted family drama titled "Jawani Janeman".

The film will be directed by Nitin Kakkar of "Filmistan" fame.

According to a press release, Saif will produce the film under his banner Black Knight Films along with Northern Lights Films.

"Saif and I have always chatted about producing films together. We were on the lookout for the right script and with 'Jawaani Jaaneman' we found that," Jay Shewakramani, of Northern Lights Films, said in a statement.

The film will go on floors in 2019.

Saif was last seen in the hit Netflix series "Sacred Games".

His next, "Baazaar", is slated to release on October 26. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 21: Netflix has officially green lit the hit series "Sacred Games" for a second season.

The thriller series, based on author Vikram Chandra's novel of the same name, features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan in the lead.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the first season of the series premiered on Netflix on July 6.

The second season will pick up from Sartaj Singh (Khan) pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde (Siddiqui) facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai, the streaming giant said in a press release.

Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who played the intriguing Guruji in season one will also be back for the show's sophomore run.

His character plays a pivotal role in unfolding a chain of events that shape the next season, which is scheduled to film in India and locations overseas later this year.

For the second season, Kashyap will continue to direct the story of Siddiqui's Gaitonde, while Motwane will be handing over the baton for the shooting of Sartaj Singh's plot to "Masaan" helmer Neeraj Ghaywan.

Motwane and Varun Grover will continue their roles of being the showrunner and the lead writer respectively.

"We've been thrilled by the response to Sacred Games from fans worldwide, and especially in India, to this high quality production. It's incredibly exciting for us to take the story of Sacred Games forward and open a new chapter in the series with its second season," said Erik Barmack, vice president, international originals at Netflix.

"Sacred Games" is the first of eight Indian series that Netflix has commissioned. Upon its debut, the show received positive reviews from critics, mainly for the performance of its lead actor. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 13: Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani revealed he shot additional portions for "Sanju", his biographical drama on Sanjay Dutt, to create empathy for the actor after people "hated" him in test screenings.

Hirani said the initial edit featured the actor's story as it was and thus was not liked by people.

"During the shoot I felt 'What am I doing, I'm going wrong.' In fact, when the first edit was ready and we screened for people, they hated him. They said we don't like this man, we don't want to watch him," he said.

"Because I wanted to do a true story, I didn't create any empathy towards him. I said lets not create empathy and show (him) as he is. But later I understood that he is our hero, we need some empathy for him," the director added.

Hirani said he had to add a certain scene in the film to create empathy for its lead character, which was not there earlier.

"The scene where he tries to kill himself after the verdict is out; which he had mentioned to me but we didn't put in the film, I shot it later. It was not in the original script. I thought through this some empathy will come...

"The initial test reactions were like 'naah we don't like this guy...' Every film is a journey. Some things work and some don't. I still see flaws in the film but you try your best and hope your best is good enough."

The director was in conversation with writer Anjum Rajabali at Indian Film and TV Directors Association's (IFTDA) special masterclass on Wednesday.

Hirani said Dutt's story was so vast, anyone could have picked an event of his life and made a standalone film. The director feels filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, for instance, would have made a great "Sanju".

"Everyone view the story through their own perspective. Someone would've made 'Sanju' only on the chapter of how he acquired the gun, destroyed it, and then the case. It could have been a film of it's own. But I thought everyone knew this. The father-son equation interested me more.

"I was blown away by 'Black Friday'. If Anurag would have heard the story, he may have been attracted to the gun angle and would have made that story. He would have made a great film with that."

The "3 Idiots" director is aware of the criticism that film never questions Dutt's intentions as each time it was either with good intentions that the bad choices were made or he was victim of certain pressure.

But Hirani says he is critical of Dutt's actions, though he believes the actor could be flawed but always harmless.

"He goes and sleeps with his best friend's girlfriend but there isn't any reason. Their friendship was almost jeopardised... The other scene where he puts the commode seat on a girl he wants to marry, I am not defending that! It's a terrible action.

"My perception of Sanju was that he has done so many weird things but he is not a bad man... I felt he had an innocence, he is naughty but he doesn't harm anyone. He didn't pick up the gun, scared people or fired a shot. He made a mistake," he added.

The director once again dismissed the criticism that he has "whitewashed" Dutt's life.

"We made a commentary about certain section of the media and the term 'whitewashed' came into play. Everywhere I go people say I have whitewashed him but I haven't. A journalist asked me, why did you whitewash Sanju and I asked what was Sanju's crime?

"I am not defending the man but myself and the film. He kept a gun, destroyed it too, lied to his father and was arrested. I showed it all, his drug phase and the way he treated people. So where have I whitewashed?" Hirani asked. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 8: Twinkle Khanna, who has acted in films like "Barsaat" and "Mela" among others, is not proud of her work as an actor as she says, her movies should be banned and hopes that no one watches them.

"I have not given any hit film. Whatever films I have done should be banned and no one watches it. Most of the time, I pretend I have alzheimer's and I don't remember my film career and it makes me happy that ways," Twinkle told reporters here on Friday at her book launch event.

Twinkle had come close to doing Karan Johar's directorial debut "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" but eventually Rani Mukherji joined the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer romance drama.

"For the first time Karan is going to direct me in an ad film and god save your soul as I can't act at all," she said on a lighter note.

Karan, who was in conversation with Twinkle at the launch of her book "Pyjamas are Forgiving", called the actor-turned-author a "rockstar" and "someone who breaks the stereotypes".

"This is an exceptional book, it has the emotional journey and it is hilarious. It is a fast read and it is the best book today," he added.

The event was also attended by Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Bobby Deol, Dimple Kapadia and others.

"I am happy to be here with Tina I share a close bond with the family as Dimple aunty and my mom are very good friends. Tina is wise, intelligent and forward thinking woman and we need more such woman like her," Sonam said. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 7: Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor is back on Twitter a day after his official account on the microblogging site was hacked.

The 37-year-old actor, whose account was reportedly hacked by a Turkish hacker group, asked his fans to ignore any kind of communication from his handle in the last 24 hours.

"Hey guys, finally I am back on twitter. Yes it was hacked. Kindly ignore any communication that came from my handle in the last 24 hours," Shahid tweeted on Friday.

Cyber group, named Ayyildiz Tim, posted a series of tweets in Turkish language and in one of them, it criticised the portrayal of Alauddin Khilji in Shahid's film "Padmaavat" which released in January this year.

Shahid played the role of Raja Ratan Singh while Khilji was portrayed by Ranveer Singh.

The Twitter handle was restored after an hour during which the group posted close to 20 tweets. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 7: Actor Kiara Advani is excited about working with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in her next "Good News", and says she has already started prepping to match up to the seasoned actors.

The film is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

"I get butterflies in my stomach when I think of working with them. Akshay sir launched me in 'Fugly' and now to work with him in a film is surreal. I look up to Kareena, I think she is a total diva and one of the most iconic stars of today. I would learn so much by working with them and Diljit," Kiara told.

The film is to be directed by Raj Mehta.

"I play a Punjabi character and then we have these three inherently Punjabi people. I have started prep work so I can match up to them. All three of them are so spontaneous. It's a mad comedy. There will be a lot of improvisation which is going to happen on set so as an actor it is going to be an amazing ride," she added.

Kiara was speaking on the sidelines of an event where she was promoting first edition of Skechers Performance Walkathon.

The 26-year-old actor said she is currently in the best phase of her life, both personal and professional.

"I am in a very happy place, I'm enjoying life. But I want to work really hard and make all these people who have put faith in me really proud. Not just in Hindi cinema in terms of producers, directors and fans, but also Telugu industry where my film became a huge hit.

"It's so encouraging, humbling. You feel really responsible to live up to these expectations. I am hoping I work my hardest and leave no stone unturned," she added. (PTI)

Mumbai, Sep 5: Manoj Bajpayee's journey has been filled with equal parts failure and acclaim but the actor says it is his stubbornness that has kept him going through times which would have forced many to quit.

Bajpayee was launched into stardom in 1998 with Ram Gopal Verma's "Satya" after years of featuring in minor roles.

"It has been a roller-coaster ride. It has tested me on several levels. Most of the actors in my place would have run away, would have chosen a different path. But I am obstinate," Bajpayee told PTI.

"I don't bow down to situations so easily. I am very convinced about what I want to do. Whether I achieve it or not, I believe in trying till the end. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. That's the gamble you take."

The journey from "Satya" to "Gali Gulliyan"- his upcoming release - was difficult but taught him the meaning of success in the industry.

"Success to me means the freedom to do what one wants to. When you are not doing well, you are only listening to advice. Everybody is compelling you to go in some direction that you don't want to go. With success, recognition and acclaim, people start following you," he said.

Though instantly hailed as the poster boy of indie cinema in the '90s and early 2000s, Bajpayee, 49, insists he never craved to be a star.

"I was never fascinated by stardom. Hundred people chasing you for autograph was never my scene. My scene is breaking the barriers and limitations of my own self as an actor and finding a new ground.

"For seven years, I lived on a rented flat even after the success of 'Satya', 'Shool', 'Kaun', 'Zubeidaa' and 'Road'. I was not looking for money or stardom. I was only looking for content and cinema where I could express myself," he said.

One might assume that after all these years and several National and international awards, a certain sense of surety would creep into an artiste's work but Bajpayee believes it is not possible in independent cinema.

"Every subject which comes your way, it is loaded with lots of demands and challenges that you can't be sure of yourself. You can fall sick and have sleepless nights if you take it seriously. The amount of hard work it requires from an actor is next level."

Something similar happened to him with his latest, "Gali Guleiyan", a psychological drama, where he plays a man trapped in the lanes of Delhi-- and in his mind.

"Getting into this character made me really sick. I wasn't merely acting. When you are doing this kind of stuff, it takes so much out of you. But that's the only way to achieve the desired response," Bajpayee said.

"Getting into the zone of a character so much that I forget myself is my high. It is quite scary but that's the beauty of being an actor. At times it leaves you with bruises, the other times it heals you with satisfaction."

While he continues to champion indie films, the actor's appearances in commercial films like "Baaghi 2" or "Satyameva Jayate" have also increased.

"Personally I don't look down upon mainstream cinema. I try to derive strength --that comes from the market -- from them to do the films that I actually believe in, like 'Gali Guleiyan', 'Bhonsle', or an 'Aligarh.'

"These are the films I enjoy doing. But for that, it is important that a 'Satyameva Jayate' or a 'Baaghi' do well. You derive strength from one and pass it on to the other," the actor said.

"Gali Guleiyan" is releasing this Friday while "Bhonsle" will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival. (PTI)

Mumbai, Aug 28: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today said he would be donating Rs 1 crore to the families of martyrs and an additional Rs 1.5 crore to waive off loans of farmers.

The 75-year-old actor said he wanted to do something for the families of martyrs.

"Just yesterday, we got a list of 44 families from the government. We have prepared 112 demand drafts to the value of Rs 1 crore to take care of the families," Bachchan told reporters here.

"There is a system in the government. Sixty per cent of the amount has to go to the wife, twenty per cent to the father and twenty per cent to the mother... Like this, we have divided the amount for 44 families of martyrs," he added.

The actor said he was also pained by the farmers' suicide and has decided to pitch in.

"I have always been bothered by reading about farmers' suicides. Many years ago, I was shooting in Vizag and read that farmers who had loaned Rs 15,000, Rs 20,000 or Rs 30,000 and couldn't pay back and were committing suicide... I came back and paid for 40-50 families...

"This time I am paying Rs 1.25 crore to 200 farmers' families. I went to my bank and we got a list of all the farmers' loans and there were 200 loans and that's what I am paying off," he added.

Mumbai, Aug 25: Actor Shahid Kapoor says when he was approached to star in the Hindi version of Telugu blockbuster "Arjun Reddy" he felt there was no need to remake the film as the original was "too perfect".

Shahid, 37, will be playing the lead in the film and the actor said the arc of the character excited him and he decided to come on-board the project.

"'Arjun Reddy' is in the preparation stage. We will start shooting for it around October 1. The first thought I had in mind was why are we remaking it. It is too perfect. But then after spending sometime with the script I thought this character is so exciting I want to give it a try," Shahid told.

The actor said he prefers being part of projects that come from a place which is "very real".

"Content is changing and it is reflection of the fact that different material is coming to actors. And whenever I get that opportunity I kind of jump on it. I am very attracted to films which talk about the issues that we can relate to. I like stories being real."

The original "Arjun Reddy", directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, featured Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role. Sandeep will be helming the Hindi version as well with Bhushan Kumar's T-Series producing the film.

Mumbai, Aug 25: Shahid Kapoor and wife Mira Rajput welcomed their first child together, Misha, two years ago and the actor says fatherhood has completely changed his outlook towards life.

Shahid, 37, says it is impossible for an actor to not be "self-oriented", but fatherhood has taught him to be less self-absorbed.

"Fatherhood has brought a lot of change in me as a person and as a human being. My priorities have changed. I am less self-oriented now, because I believe actors can never be not self-oriented. I think I am more open to different point of views. I have matured and feel a lot more grown up now," Shahid told.

The actor, who will be soon welcoming his second child with wife Mira, said he wants to be a part of every moment of their life and spend as much time as he can with them.

"It is no more about just being an actor. I have a family and a kid. I want to be part of my child's growth. I want to be with her in each and every moment. The whole experience of being a parent has been beautiful and life-changing," he added

Shahid was speaking on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018, where he walked for designer Amit Aggarwal in a show presented by Nexa. Dressed in black, the actor set the ramp on fire along with Disha Patani.

The actor said he may have become more updated in terms of fashion, but things were not the same when he started his career in the Hindi film industry.

"I enjoy the whole limelight now. Did I enjoy when I started? I am not sure because I was very conscious of myself and I was not very fashionable and didn't understand things. I was not born and brought up in that atmosphere I had a very middle class life."

Shahid said he decided to focus on his off-camera appearances because it was part of his job.

"It is something which has come with time. I have cultivated it and I have learned to enjoy it. Honestly, I am the kind of person that if something is part of my job I will work hard to get it right. I enjoy getting all the aspect of my job right because I am very passionate about what I do, he said.

Shahid will next be seen "Batti Gul Meter Chalu" alongside Shraddha Kapoor. The film, directed by Shree Narayan Singh, is slated to release on September 21. (PTI)

New Delhi, Aug 13: Akshay Kumar says his work ethic has helped him get through difficult times in Bollywood as producers trusted him even when he had over a dozen flops to his name.

The actor, who is playing an assistant manager with dreams of leading the newly Independent India to Olympic victory in period drama "Gold", said he has always considered himself to be producer's actor first and that's the advice he gave to his co-star, debutante Mouni Roy.

"Once I had 16 flops but I still had four more films (to release). Not because I was a director's actor (yes, you have to be that) but because I was a producer's actor. The producer is the one who invests money. One of them said, 'It's a two-hero film. This guy is fine. He is punctual, he does an okay job and he'll do action and all'," Akshay said recalling an incident from his early career.

"I believe in long-term thinking. I believe you have to be a producer's actor first, then the director's actor," he added.

Known for leading a disciplined life, both personally and professionally, Akshay said people remember how a person approaches his or her work.

"She (Mouni) asked me and I told her, 'If you want to survive in this industry. Hits and flops will keep hitting you. Only thing that will keep you going is the mark you make for yourself... once that comes in people's minds, (nothing can stop you).

"I know a lot of producers who say 'We should take her, she gets ready in five minutes be it hair or makeup... At other times, they complain that the heroine is taking hours to get ready. It's a very simple thing, but a very effective one. Even if you have made it big and all, but it (bad work ethic) will cut you out in the long term," he said in a group interview here.

When asked if he knew any actors who came late, Akshay quipped, "I will never name people who are late. I'm very diplomatic. I have never taken any names."

Chennai, Jul 11: Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar's film "2.0" will now release on November 29.

The film's official Twitter account tweeted the poster of the film, which displayed the film's release date.

In "2.0", Rajinikanth will reprise the role of Dr Vaseegaran/ Chitti.

Akshay, who is the new addition to the franchise, will play the antagonist, Dr Richard. The actor duo will share screen space for the first time.

The film, directed by Shankar, is the sequel to his "Enthiran" (2010) that also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Shankar took to social media to share the news.

"Hi everyone. At last the vfx companies promised the final delivery date of the vfx shots. The movie will release on November 29, 2018. '2.0' (sic)" he tweeted.

Mumbai, Jul 11: Ajay Devgn will essay the eponymous role in "Chanakya", a historical drama on master economist and royal advisor to the first Mauryan emperor Chandragupta.

The film will be directed by Neeraj Pandey.

The 49-year-old actor, who will be collaborating with Pandey for the first time, said he is excited to work with the director.

"I am truly looking forward to playing Chanakya. I've followed Neeraj Pandey's work closely and I know Neeraj will tell this story with the clarity and passion with which it needs to be told," Devgn said in a statement.

Pandey said "Chanakya" is a passion project on which he has been working on for a while.

"I have been developing this film on Chanakya for quite some time now. It's an exciting work of passion for me, and I am sure the audiences will love Ajay in his portrayal of the visionary genius," he said.

The film will be produced by Reliance Entertainment, Friday Filmworks and Plan C Studios. (PTI)

Kolkata, Mar 25 : Renowned Bollywood actor, philanthropist and a popular television presenter Farooque Shaikh would have celebrated his 70th birthday, had he been alive.
In keeping with its tradition of honouring noted personalities from across the globe, famous search engine Google has dedicated a special 'doodle' this Sunday recognizing the actor on his 70th birth anniversary.
“Today’s Doodle by Nimit Malavia is a tribute to Shaikh’s cinematic career in a style evocative of hand-painted movie posters of the 1970s, and especially Umrao Jaan. We see the wide-eyed romantic hero of the 1970’s mature into a comfortingly familiar TV presence of the 1990’s, bridging the gap between mainstream and arthouse cinema in India along the way,” Google said in it’s blog post on the doodle.
Born on March 25, 1948, Shaikh was best known for his work in Hindi films from 1977 to 1989 and for his work in television between 1988 and 2002
Shaikh's film career began on a high note with the 1973 new wave film Garm Hawa, about the 1947 partition of the subcontinent at the end of British rule. His performance earned him a key role in director Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi, about the decadence of India's feudal classes.
His cherubic looks struck a chord with ordinary people who tended to identify with his man on the street image.
Graduating from theatre to cinema in 1973 with MS Sathyu’s classic Garam Hava, Shaikh managed to create innumerable versions of the common man in films like Gaman (1978), Noorie (1979), Umrao Jaan (1981), Chasme Baddoor (1981), Saath Saath (1982), Bazaar (1982) ), Rang Birangi,(1983) Kissi Se Na Kehna (1983) Ek Baar Chale Aao (1983) Katha (1983) Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984) Salma (1985) Peechha Karo (1986) Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988) And Maya Memsaab (1993) . He formed a successful pair with Deepti Naval. He also did a slightly negative role in Katha
A consummate artist who was unperturbed by the platform or the length of the role, Shaikh was in fact one of the first actors to balance films and television (Srikant, Chamatkar, Ji Mantriji and Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai, a television show he hosted where he interviewed people from all walks of life). He even returned to theatre with Tumhari Amrita that co-starred Shabana Azmi and was performed over 300 times.
In the five years before his death Shaikh acted in 8 films that largely revolved around him and he even managed to play characters in Lahore (2009) and Shanghai (2012) that one wouldn’t ideally associate with him.
His major contribution was in Parallel Cinema or the New Indian Cinema. He worked with directors like Satyajit Ray, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta.
He starred in close to 48 films throughout his career. He is also the reciepient of the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 2010 movie Lahore.
Shaikh died of a heart attack at the age of 65 in Dubai, where he was enjoying a vacation with his family, on December 28, 2013. UNI
