Ahmedabad, Mar 11 :  The Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The meeting would be followed by a mega rally at Adalaj town in Gandhinagar where Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is likely to address her first public rally after entering politics.

CWC, the highest decision-making body of the Congress, will be meeting in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the first time since 1961, after a gap of 58 years.

Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel will also join the Congress on Tuesday in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi.

After the meeting at the Sardar Patel memorial building, senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, UPC chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh, as well as current and former party chief ministers will attend the 'Jan Sankalp' rally', state party unit chief Amit Chavda said.

Before the CWC meet, senior party leaders will visit the Gandhi Ashram to attend a prayer meet.

The leaders will pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi as March 12 marks the launch of the historic Dandi March by him from the Sabarmati Ashram here in 1930. Besides, 2019 is also being celebrated as the 150th birth anniversary year of the Father of the Nation.

The Congress is expecting a crowd of over three lakh people in the home turf of Modi and BJP president Shah ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, a party leader said.

This will be Rahul Gandhi's second visit to Gujarat within a month in the run-up to the polls. He earlier addressed a rally in Valsad district February 14.

Wardha (Maha), Oct 2: The Congress will hold its working committee meeting here Tuesday to mark the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations, and give a message against the "atmosphere of fear, hate and violence" prevailing in the country, the party has said.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will be at the Sevagram Ashram in Wardha for the meeting and the party will take Mahatma Gandhi's message all over the country, a party leader said.

There will be a prayer meeting, a 'shanti' (peace) march, and a public meeting at the Sevagram Ashram in which Rahul Gandhi will give his message, he said, adding that holding the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Wardha has a lot of symbolism attached to it.

"The preliminary deliberations of Individual Satyagraha were held in Sevagram in 1940. The CWC met in Sevagram and adopted the resolution on Quit India movement on July 14, 1942," he said.

The Quit India movement was launched in Mumbai on August 8, 1942.

"A meeting was held in Sevagram from March 12 to 14, 1948, with the subject 'Gandhi has gone: who will guide us now', and among those who attended the meeting included the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Vinoba Bhave and Jaiprakash Narayan," he said.

When Mahatma Gandhi started his padayatra in 1930 from the Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, he had decided not to return to Sabarmati till India was free, the leader recalled.

"Gandhiji was jailed for more than two years and on his release, he spent time travelling considerably in central India. He came to Wardha in 1934 at the invitation of businessman and philanthropist Jamnalal Bajaj," he said.

In April 1936, Mahatma Gandhi established his residence in the Shegaon village near Wardha and he renamed it as Sevagram, which means 'village of service'. (PTI)

KULGAM, SEPTEMBER, 08:  District and Sessions Judge, Kishore Kumar today inaugurated Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) at Kulgam which will deal with all the cases relating to juveniles in conflict with law who have not attained the age of 18 years.
Present on the occasion were Principal Magistrate JJB Kulgam Iqbal Masoodi, Munsif Shafeeq Ahmad ADC/ District Child Protection Officer Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairperson, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Public Prosecution Officer, Mohd Amin Padder, President Bar Association, Mohammad Shafi Bhat Secretary Bar Association, Rais Ahmad Dar senior prosecuting officer Rafi Ahmad, SHO Irshad Ahmad besides them officials of ICPS were also present.
On the occasion, 12 cases were put on for hearing in which two cases were disposed of. Five bail application were also taken up in which four were bailed out.

New Delhi, Jul 27: The water level of the Yamuna river has crossed the danger mark and is expected to rise further, prompting authorities to issue advisory to officers concerned to take appropriate measures to avoid flood-like situation, officials said today.

The Yamuna water level at the Hathinikund barrage has crossed the danger mark of 90,000 cusecs and reached 2.11 lakh cusecs by 9 am.

The water level of the Yamuna river at the Delhi Railway Bridge is expected to rise further to 205.40 m from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm today, according to a statement issued by the East Delhi district administration.

"The water level of river Yamuna at Delhi Old Rly Bridge reached at 204.92 metres at 7 AM on July 28 (above the warning level) and having rising trend," it said.

An alert was sounded yesterday by the Delhi government after the water level of the Yamuna river crossed the danger mark, an official said.

"All the executive engineers/sector officers are directed to keep in close contact with the control room in relation to the discharge, water level at the Old Railway Bridge and the advisory or forecast from the Central Water Commission/MET, and requested to take appropriate measures/steps accordingly to avoid flood-like situation," it said.

"The CWC, Upper Yamuna Division, New Delhi has issued flood forecast for the Delhi Railway Bridge (North Delhi Dt NCT, Delhi). The water level of river Yamuna at Delhi Rly Bridge was 205 metres at 9 AM on July 28 (warning level 204.00 m)," the advisory said.

A low-pressure area over western Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood persists.

This system will bring widespread rainfall with isolated 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and northwest Madhya Pradesh during the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. (PTI)

Ludhiana, Jul 24: Senior AAP leader and legislator from Dakha, H S Phoolka today said he will quit the party if it joins hands with the Congress.

He made it clear here that any understanding with the Congress party would amount to giving a clean chit to the alleged "perpetrators" of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

"I shall be the first person to quit the Aam Aadmi Party if and when it joins hands with the Congress (either) in a direct or indirect manner," Phoolka said here.

His statement comes after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh supported senior party leader P Chidambaram's views on the need for a broad-based alliance with other opposition parties at the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at Delhi on Sunday.

Phoolka, a noted lawyer who has represented the riot victims in the courts, blamed the Congress for the violence that took place in the aftermath of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination.

The former leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly said he would continue to fight cases of the riot victims.

A total of 3,325 people were killed in the riots. (PTI)

Ranchi, Jul 5: A woman staffer has been arrested and two others, including a sister-in-charge, detained for allegedly selling a child born to an inmate of a shelter home, run by Mother Teresa-founded Missionaries of Charity, at Jail road here, a police officer said.

Anima Indwar, a woman employee of Nirmal Hriday, was apprehended based on a complaint filed by Rupa Verma, the chairperson of Child Welfare Committee's Ranchi unit, Kotwali police station officer in-charge Shyamanand Mandal said.

"One person was apprehended yesterday in connection with the shelter home case. Another arrest is also likely. We are investigating into the allegations," Mandal said.

In her complaint, Verma said that a couple from Uttar Pradesh's Shone Bhadra district had approached the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after Nirmal Hriday allegedly took away the child it had earlier given them on May 14.

The couple apparently told Verma that they paid Rs 1.2 lakh on May 1 to get the boy's custody.

Talking to, the chairperson of Ranchi CWC said, "The UP-based family claimed that Anima Indwar, who handed over the child to them on May 14, had called them up on July 1 and asked them to visit the shelter home for completing certain formalities. When the child was brought to the home, Indwar took the boy away."

Verma also clarified that Indwar had called up the couple a day after the CWC carried out a surprise check at Nirmal Hriday, which provides shelter to unwed mothers, and seized important documents.

"The couple, with no help in sight, knocked our doors for help. The boy is in custody of CWC at present," she said, claiming that a baby-selling racket has been operating from the shelter home for some time. (PTI)

The Hague, Apr 13: The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has transmitted to the United Kingdom (UK) the report of the OPCW’s mission to provide requested technical assistance in regard to the Salisbury incident on 4 March 2018.
According to information supplied by OPCW on Thursday, the results of the analysis by the OPCW designated laboratories of environmental and biomedical samples collected by the OPCW team confirm the findings of the United Kingdom relating to the identity of the toxic chemical that was used in Salisbury and severely injured three people.
The UK’s delegation to the OPCW requested that the Technical Secretariat share the report with all States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and to make the Executive Summary of the report publicly available.
The Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, thanked the four OPCW designated laboratories that supported the technical assistance request for their swift and thorough analysis. 
The United Kingdom had requested technical assistance from the OPCW Technical Secretariat, under subparagraph 38(e) of Article VIII of the Chemical Weapons Convention, in relation to an incident in Salisbury on 4 March 2018 involving a toxic chemical — allegedly a nerve agent — and the poisoning and hospitalisation of three individuals. 
The OPCW team worked independently and is not involved in the national investigation by the UK authorities. No State Party was involved in the technical work carried out by the Technical Secretariat.
OPCW designated laboratories are a lynchpin of the Organisation’s verification regime and its capacity to investigate allegations of the use of chemical weapons. They must be able to perform off-site analysis of chemical samples collected by OPCW inspectors from chemical production facilities, storage depots and other installations, or from the site of an alleged use of chemical weapons. These laboratories offer the necessary assurance to our States Parties that chemical analyses needed to make determinations or to clarify issues occurring during OPCW deployments are carried out competently, impartially, and with unambiguous results. 
As the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention, the OPCW oversees the global endeavour to permanently and verifiably eliminate chemical weapons. Since the Convention’s entry into force in 1997 – and with its 192 States Parties – it is the most successful disarmament treaty eliminating an entire class of weapons of mass destruction. 
Over ninety-six per cent of all chemical weapon stockpiles declared by possessor States have been destroyed under OPCW verification. For its extensive efforts in eliminating chemical weapons, the OPCW received the 2013 Nobel Prize for Peace. UNI

United nations, Mar 27: A United Nations spokesman has confirmed that the world body was aware of the announcement by the United States Government of its decision to take action against certain Russian diplomats in the US.
“This action may require those members to leave the country,” Deputy UN Spokesman Farhan Haq told reporters at the daily press briefing on Monday, citing the UN-US Headquarters Agreement, which governs the relations between the Organization and the Host country. 
“Given the sensitivity of the matter, which is ongoing, we will not comment further at this stage other than to confirm that the Secretary-General will closely follow this matter and engage as appropriate with the Governments concerned,” he said.
News reports suggest that the US Administration on Monday ordered the expulsion of 60 Russians from the US, following similar actions taken by other countries in the wake of the allegation by the United Kingdom that Russia was behind an attack using a deadly nerve-agent in Salisbury on 4 March, which left Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, hospitalised in critical condition.
On 14 March, the UK brought the charge before an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, where US Ambassador Nikki Haley said that the US stood in solidarity with the UK in denouncing the “crime” and believed Russia had been responsible for the attack.
At the same meeting, both Russia and the United Kingdom said the incident should be investigated by the Hague-based Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the UN-backed body which works to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and eliminate chemical weapons use, and the threat of their use.
The UK Foreign Ministry announced later that independent investigators from the OPCW were due to arrive in the UK on Monday, 19 March to kick off their probe into the nerve agent used in the Salisbury attack. UNI

Kathmandu, Mar 26: Some youth leaders and rival factions of the Nepali Congress led by Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula have geared up for a leadership change by unseating party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, a report in The Kathmandu Post said on Monday.
Some Central Working Committee members have already demanded the general convention to sort the leadership issue while some youth leaders are preparing to press the demand at the ongoing CWC meeting of the party.
Deuba supporters said they face no threat despite the rival factions’ bid to oust him, blaming the party president for the NC’s debacle during the federal and provincial elections held in November-December last year.
The rival factions lack sufficient numbers at the CWC and other party bodies to present the necessary proposal. According to the Congress statute, 25 percent CWC members can lodge a no-confidence motion against the party chief.
If such a proposal is tabled in the meeting, a general convention must be called within two months. Rival factions led by Poudel and Sitaula can collectively forward the 
proposal. However, they lack the two-thirds majority necessary for removing Deuba, leaders said.
As intra-party rivalry becomes acute, Deuba plans to tighten his grip on the party, making it difficult to present any proposal against him. In the recent vote for the Parliamentary Party leader, Deuba defeated rival faction candidate Prakash Man Singh with more than double votes. Deuba also plans to appoint office bearers to the posts lying vacant for more than two years.
NC youth leader Gagan Thapa, however, has a different take on holding of the convention and leadership change. “We must start preparations for holding a general convention to adapt ourselves to the federal set-up,” he said, adding that the party was yet to reshape its organisation for the new local governments and the seven provinces.
“We should start the convention process from the grassroots level,” said Thapa, rejecting the rhetoric of removing the party president to elect a new one. “We need a general convention to end factionalism and the ongoing blame-game in the party after the poll debacle.”
He said youth leaders were planning to present their collective views on party rebuilding shortly. From Sunday, the CWC meeting started the process of reviewing the election results.
At the ongoing CWC meeting, leaders close to Sitaula and Poudel criticised Deuba for the poll debacle. They blamed Deuba’s “weak” leadership for the party’s electoral loss. UNI

All the staff members of both the offices of Central water Commission participated in the
drive. In addition to the officers & staff of CWC, Jammu, the manpower from Muncipal
Corporation Jammu and local residents also enthusiastically participated in this special
drive. The Director, M&A Directorate, CWC, Jammu encouraged the local residents to take
part in the drive. Later, Director Sh. Yoki Vijay addressed all the participants and local
residents about the cleanliness of the pond and surroundings. It was suggested that the
residents of the area may also be made aware and motivated to keep the Pond and the
surrounding area clean.

New Delhi, Nov 20: Charging the Narendra Modi Government with 'sabotaging' the Winter Session of Parliament on 'flimsy grounds', Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Monday said the Centre had taken the extra ordinary step of not holding the session when it should be held to avoid questions and answer ahead of Gujarat elections. Addressing the Congress Working Committee, the Congress president said, 'The Modi-government in its arrogance has cast a dark shadow on India’s Parliamentary democracy by sabotaging the Winter Session of Parliament on flimsy grounds. The Government is mistaken if it thinks that by locking the temple of democracy, it will escape constitutional accountability ahead of the assembly elections.  Parliament is the forum in which questions should be asked – questions about corruption in high places, conflict of interest of serving ministers and dubious defence deals. Government will be obliged to answer these questions, but in order to avoid the questions and answer ahead of Gujarat elections, the government has taken the extra ordinary step of not holding a winter session when should be held. The Prime Minister had the audacity to have a midnight celebration in Parliament to launch an ill prepared and flawed GST but today he lacks the courage to face Parliament.' Attacking the Government on demonetisation and faulty implementation of the Goods and Services Tax, Ms Gandhi said, 'Unemployment, rising inflation, falling exports and GST are causing tremendous suffering to millions of people. A year later, demonetisation has done nothing but rub salt on the wounds of distressed farmers, small traders, housewives and daily workers.  "The fortunes of a handful are being built by destroying the future of the poor and the oppressed. Yet the Prime Minister continues with greater vigor, to make announcements, false promises, and to quote facts and figures that have nothing to do with the reality on the grounds.'She also charged the Central government with trying to change the history of modern India by systematically erasing the contributions made by former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. 'The Modi government is also forcefully trying to change the history of modern India by systematically erasing the contributions made by Pt Nehruji and Indira Gandhi – be it through rewriting school text books, through malicious misinformation and propaganda, or ignoring with disdain the importance of the birth centenary of Indiraji. This vilification is blatant and for all to see,' she said. She also called on the Congress leaders and workers to put all their efforts for a positive result in that state and defeat the present dispensation there. 'Rahul and many of you colleagues here and in Gujarat are working hard for a positive result in that state. Let us do our best to prove that people are not fooled and that they will make the right decision and defeat the present dispensation there,' she said. Expressing her satisfaction at the conclusion of the election process in the party, she thanked Chairman Mullapalli Ramachandran, members of the Central Election Authority and other party workers for carrying out this huge exercise with utmost diligence, integrity and impartiality. 'Over the last 18 months, the election process that has concluded in all but six states has elected block presidents, an equal number of delegates, primary units and party members. This has provided an opportunity for the party to interact with lakhs of workers across the country, starting from the booth level. This reaffirms that the party’s roots are spread across every district of the country and that no other political party can match the plurality and diversity of the Congress party. The electoral process, which began in May 2016, has now come to its culmination,'she said. New Delhi, Nov 20: Decks were cleared for the elevation of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday with the Congress Working Committee (CWC) passing a resolution to that effect and announcing that election for the post of party president will be held on December 16.
The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and attended by Mr Rahul Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh besides senior leaders A K Anthony and Mallikarjun Kharge and others. The meeting was held at 10 Janpath residence of Ms Sonia Gandhi. According to the election schedule released by the CWC, the process will begin with issuance of notification on December 1, and the last date for filing of nomination is December 4. The scrutiny of papers will be held on December 5 and last date of withdrawal will be December 11. Polling if required will be held on December 16. Counting of votes will be held on December 19, chairman of election authority Mullapaly Ramachandran told reporters here. The CWC also passed a a resolution to make Mr Rahul Gandhi the party president. It is notable that the Election Commission set a December 31 deadline for the party to complete the process of organisational elections. Party leaders say that if only Mr Rahul Gandhi files the nomination for the post of President, and no other candidate comes forward, he will be declared as party president on the last date of the withdrawal of nominations. Party sources said Mr Rahul Gandhi is the only candidate in the fray and was likely to be elected unopposed. Party leaders and activists have been demanding for a long time that Mr Rahul Gandhi be elevated as the party president. The Congress has already completed the task of constituting Pradesh Congress Committees. The Congress Working Committee has already made a request to Ms Sonia Gandhi to hand over the command of the party to Mr Rahul Gandhi. He has also indicated several times that he is ready to take on the responsibility of the post of party president. The sentiment has been conveyed by nearly all PCCs, which have passed resolutions demanding that he take over as president. UNI
