KATRA, SEPTEMBER 29: The nine days Navratra Festival Prabhat Pheri in the holy town of Katra concluded here today morning amidst chanting of bhajans and beating of drums.
SDM Katra, Neelam Khajuria was the chief guest on the occasion. Assistant Director J&K Tourism Katra, Umesh Shan, Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma and other officials were present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion, chief guest wished blessings of Maa Vaishno Devi for all and complimented the Prabhat Pheri Committee’s efforts in making this event colourful, successful and spiritual.
Attraction of the Prabhat Pheri was singing of bhajans, playing of flutes and beating of drums a grand way. The local ladies group led by Swati Sharma also performed various Dogri bhajans during procession.
Speaking on the occasion Raj Kumar Padha thanked Information department for daily coverage of the event and district administration, health department, police department, CRPF, Municipal Committee, Katra for their active cooperation and support during Prabhat Pheri processions.



KATRA, SEPTEMBER 27: The holy town of Katra Wednesday was filled by spiritual ambience as enthusiastic devotees participated in Prabhat Pheri   taken out today to mark 7th Navratra.
The religious procession was organised by Navratra Prabhat Pheri Committee, Katra with active support of local people as a part of Navratra Festival being organized by SMVD Shrine Board, Department of Tourism and district administration Reasi.
The Prabhat Pheri started and culminated at Bus Stand, Katra after passing through Ban Ganga Road, Dak Banglow, Shalimar Garden, Chintamani, Hanuman Mandir and main bazaar Katra.
Enroute, the devotees recited hymns in praise of Maa Durga filling the air with spirituality.
The Prabhat Pheri provided a glimpse of the rich Marathi tradition as artists from Maharashtra beat drums (Dhol) and recited devotional songs. Later, artists from Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh also joined the procession adding to more spiritual ambiance to the event.
Meanwhile devotees and artists from various parts of the country continued to arrive at Katra to participate in the Navratra Prabhat Pheri which is followed by series of other festivities.     
Earlier, Chief Guest DIG, CRPF Sushil Kumar Misra flagged off the Prabhat Pheri   in presence of senior civil  society members including,  Ex- Chairman Hotel and Restaurant Association Babu Ram Dubey, Shashi Gupta and Ajay Sharma patrons of Navratra Prabhat Pheries Committee.
In his address, the Chief Guest appealed the people to follow the path of Maa Vaishno Devi and teaching of Dharma to make the nation strong and prosperous.
The Committee members also felicitated the Chief Guest by presenting memento.

The members present on the occasion were Raj Kumar Dubey, Dleep Padha, Manish Kapoor, Ajay Verma, Kushal Magotra, Tilak Raj, Diwakar Sharma, Amit Bamba, Renue Ji Dhar, Vimal Sharma, Sahil Sharma, Honey Singh and many others.


            KATRA, SEPTEMBER 25: An impressive ‘Prabhat Pheri ‘was taken out on the 5th day of Navratra Festival at Katra from Bus Stand in which hundreds of devotees participated.
            Earlier, Chief Guest Sr. Citizen Goma Proach of famous Rama Sweet Shop flagged off the yatra in presence of Suresh Bhandari, group leader of Maharashtrian artists, who also participated in the Prabhat Pheri.

            The members present on the occasion were Shashi Gupta, Ajay Sharma, Raj Kumar Dubey, Ramnik Nawada, Amit Bamba, Renue Ji Dhar, Vimal Sharma, Sahil Kumar and others.



KATRA, SEPTEMBER 25:  On the fourth day of all India Devotional Song Competition, famous celebrities Gulzar Lahoria and Sunil Mattoo enthralled the audience with their mesmerizing presentations.
CRPF Commandant Sushil Kumar Mishra, DySP (DAR), President Hotel Association, Katra and Chairman All India Devotional Song Committee Rakesh Kumar, Yog Acharya Swami Yoga Nand ji Maharaj, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Virender Kesar, Ajay Kotwal were present on the occasion.
In first round of competition, Shubh Sisters from Chamba clinched the 1st position and qualified for Semi Final to be held on 28th September and Brijesh Malhotra  from Kanyala was adjudged 2nd  while 3rd position was bagged by  Swarn Lata from Jalandhar who went straight to quarter final to be held on 27th  September  among the 10 participants of different states. All the three winners were awarded with the cash prizes of Rs.10,000, Rs. 5,000 and Rs 3,000  along with gifts.
The Devotional Song Competition was adjudged by a panel of music experts including Celebrity Singer Gulzar Lahoria, Ex.HOD Music, Dr.Usha Bhagat, Assistant Professor (Music) Govt. College for Women Parade Anupama Sharma and Retired Director All India Radio V.K Sambyal.
The proceedings of the competition were conducted by Rakesh Wazir, who is also the Chairman of the said Competition.
The famous celebrity singers Hasmat, Sultana and Asmita Garg will perform tomorrow and live telecast of the event will be made on Shradha MH one from 9.15 PM.

The All India Devotional Song Competition is being organized by SMVD Shrine Board, J&K Tourism department and Shradha MH one in association with Shiv Khori Shrine Board, J&K Bank, Ramada City Center (now open) Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialist Hospital, Pure Roots Herbal,  Nidhesh Builders Jammu Pvt.Ltd., 92.7 Big FM, District Administration and the local Community.


JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 23-  As part of Navrarta festival 2017,  a cultural programme was organized by Tourism Department at Kol Kandoli Temple Nagrota here today.
MLA, Devender Singh Rana, was the chief guest on the ocassion.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana lauded the efforts of the Tourism Department and urged upon the need of organizing more such programmes. He extended best wishes to the people on the auspicious occasion of Navratra festival.
Director Tourism Jammu, Smita Sethi, in her address, spoke about the religious importance of Kol Kandoli Temple and said that the temple situated in Nagrota at a distance of 14 km from Jammu believed to be good to visit before starting the journey for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The temple is also known as first glimpse Kol Kandoli of Mata Vaishno Devi, she further informed.
On the occasion, MLA along with Director Tourism and other officers flagged off Manokamna Yatra Bus proceeding to visit all Hindu religious places enroute and adjoining Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Katra.
Meanwhile, a cultural programme was organized on the occasion which  was witnessed by a jam packed audience including the pilgrims.,

Among others Deputy Director Publicity Shokat Mehmood, Deputy Director Subah Mehta, Assistant Director Tourism Rupali Mahajan and large number of people were present on the occasion.

REASI, SEPTEMBER 19: Deputy Commissioner, Prasana Ramaswamy G today convened a meeting of officers to review arrangements for ensuing Navratra festival at Katra.
The meeting was attended by Additional CEO of the Shrine Board Anshul Garg, CEO SMDA (Nodal Officer  Navratra Festival Katra), Arvind Kotwal,  SSP Reasi, Tahir Bhat, SDM Katra, Neelam Khajuria, Tehsildar Mohit Raina, SDPO Ashok Sharma, XENs and other concerned officers.
The popular Navratra Festival 2017 at Katra is being organized by the Department of Tourism and district administration in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.    
Arrangements for transportation of artists from Reasi for Ramleela, sanitation in the town, power supply at all venues, security and all other arrangements were discussed threadbare in the meeting.
Instructions were passed to the PHE functionaries to ensure barricading and regular supply of water at the locations of festival.  The PDD was also directed to ensure proper lightening and illumination of the main locations.
Meanwhile, AD Tourism,  Dr.Umesh Shan informed that traditional procession (Shoba Yatra) would be taken out from inaugural venue which will culminate at Foara Cowk. Jhankis would be based on the theme Mata Ki Pindi,  Swaroop of Mata, Swacch Bharat Mission and Ram Darbar.
It was further informed that the festival would also witness Mata Ki Kahani by Natrang Jammu and Ram Leela by the main Ram Leela organizers of Jammu and Reasi. Likewise, devotional songs and folk competitions would also be part of Navratra Festival. As per past practice, popular dangal would be organized on September 24, 2017 at main Stadium Katra.
It was also disclosed that there will be Prabhat Pehris daily during all the Navratra days which will begin at 5:30 am from Bus Stand Katra to Darshan Deodi Ban Ganga. This group will formally welcome the pilgrims and other devotees visiting Katra.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner accompanied by SDM and other officers visited all the identified venues where different functions would be held. He passed instructions to the officers to keep close liaison with each other to make this festival a grand success.

KATHUA, SEPTEMBER 14: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Ramesh Kumar   Thursday reviewed the arrangements for the ensuing Navratra festival at an officers’ meeting held here today. 
Detailed deliberations were held on the measures to ensure smooth conduct of festival. The DC directed the officers to ensure all necessary arrangements to facilitate the devotees during.
Arrangements for transportation, sanitation, drinking water, power supply, first aid facilities, market checking and   security were thoroughly discussed in the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner directed   for the repair of bridle paths leading to the temples and shrines. Similarly, the instructions were passed on to the PHE functionaries to ensure regular supply of drinking water at the shrines and important Yatra path routes.  The PDD was also directed to ensure un-interrupted power supply to all the shrines. Barricading for the benefit of devotees was also discussed in the meeting.
Chief Medical Officer was directed to make available necessary medical facilities at all the shrines with life saving drugs first aid along with team of doctors.  The CAPD department and CEO Municipal Committee were directed to conduct regular market inspections to keep check on overcharging, quality of eatables and profiteers.   
RTO Kathua was directed to provide transport facilities on all routes leading to different shrines and to display fare list at bus stand for convenience of the pilgrims. The fire and emergency service will deploy fire tenders at Jasrota Mata, Sukrala Mata and Mahanpur, the DC ordered.
The DC appealed the public to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in and around the religious places during the festival season. He directed to keep close check on the use of polythene near temples and also issue advisory to the nearby shops and stalls against its use.

The traffic officials and Tehsildars of the concerned areas were directed to identify areas for parking so that congestion of traffic can be avoided during festival season. The Tehsildars of hilly areas along with MVD officials were directed to intensify vigil to keep check on overloading of passenger vehicles.
‘Annual event best means to promote  pilgrim tourism’

JAMMU SEPT 8: Minister of state for Tourism, education, culture and floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today underlined the need for making grand Navartara festival as effective medium to promote pilgrim tourism in the state.
The Minister was speaking at a high level meeting convened to review the arrangements for annual Navratra Festival-2017 being held at holy town of Katra. 
 “Over the years Navratra festival has become a major national event through which we can take pilgrim tourism to new highs by showcasing numerous other historical religious places of the state,” she asserted.
She said that this year the department shall endeavour  to give a wider publicity to event by holding pre event activities at Delhi and road shows in various states so as to attract tourists  to the grand event in large numbers .
She also informed that a curtain raiser of the event shall be held at Jammu to increase  participation in the festival .
 The Minister stressed on making the series of events proposed to be held during the nine day festival as real attraction for the tourists. She stressed on engaging renowned local artists for cultural events which will feature folk dance, music and other art forms of the state.   
It was informed that the Government is going to hold series of promotional activities during the annual event featuring cultural, religious, folk and competitive events.   
The nine day festivities would start with inauguration of the festival on September 21 at 11 am at the Asia Chowk Katra followed by a grand Shobha yatra.
          Various other events proposed during the festival days include presentation of Mata Rani ki Kahani, Ram Leela, Prabhat Pehris, folk festival, Bhaint Competition, wrestling competition and various other cultural programmes.
          The meeting was informed that this year the Department of Tourism has envisaged a special package of Sampoorna Manokamna Yatra facilitating visits to nine deities as per the traditional practice related to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.
          The Minister asked JKTDC to chalk out attractive packages for the tourists and pilgrims during Navatra festival.
Minister also directed the concerned  CEO's of the tourism development authorities  to ensure participation  from the respective areas in the Jhankies for promotion of the local culture  and art forms .
She said that the Navratra festival is an apt platform to highlight the culture and heritage of the state and should be optimally  used to attract tourists.

The meeting was attended by Director Tourism Jammu, Smita Sethi, General Manager JKTDC, Anju Gupta, Deputy Directors besides other concerned officers.
