Srinagar, Mar 14: With Supreme Court (SC) staying "mandatory" Aadhaar linking with bank accounts and mobile phones indefinitely till the final judgment is pronounced, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he will not link anything to Aadhaar until he absolutely has to.
Mr Abdullah, who is also the working president of National Conference (NC), asked banks and cellular companies to stop spamming him with emails and messages.
'Dear HDFC, Airtel & others please stop spamming me with emails/messages now. I’m not linking anything to Aadhaar until I absolutely have to,' Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
The comment by the former Chief Minister comes after a five-judge Constitution bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, on Tuesday said the government ‘cannot insist’ that citizens must provide Aadhaar details for operating bank accounts, holding phone connections and applying for tatkaal passports. UNI

Srinagar, Jan 13: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that warning by four senior most judges of Supreme Court (SC) that democracy is in danger was not an internal matter of the Apex court and the issue should concern every single Indian.
However, the working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) said meeting of D Raja with one of the four Judges Chelameswar was hasty and ill considered move.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mr Abdullah said, 'Democracy in India is in danger. This was the warning that came from the Hon Judges yesterday. So no, it’s not an internal matter for the Hon SC.'
He further said that, 'It is certainly not a BJP v/s Congress or a Rahul v/s Modi issue. It is quite simply an issue that should concern every single Indian.'
'Democracy in India is the bedrock of our nation. We take pride in telling the world we are the largest democracy even if we aren’t the oldest or the greatest. When four senior most Hon judges of the Supreme Court see a threat to India’s democracy the worst thing we can do is to simply wish it away,' Mr Abdullah said.
In earlier tweet, the former CM said,'I have the greatest regard for D Raja Sahib but this move of his to rush to Justice Chelameshwar’s House was hasty & ill considered. Plays in to the hands of those who want to discredit what the Hon judges said/did.'
Mr Abudllah was reacting to Rajya Sabha MP D Raja's tweet in which he expressed solidarity with Justice Chelameshwar’s declaration against the administration of India’s top court.
“[I] have known him for a long time,” Mr Raja said. 'When I came to know of the extraordinary step taken by him and other judges, I thought I must meet him. Not giving it political colour,' he said. UNI
