 Jammu, Oct 5: Rattled by the BJP’s relentless exposure of its misdeeds and playing with peoples’ sentiments for sake of vote bank politics leading to the current level of anger and disgruntlement, NC has resorted to a misinformation campaign backed by bundles of repeated lies. The peoples’ anger is to such an extent that their leaders dare not face them and are unable to step out of their houses in Srinagar. Their cadre has deserted them because without caring for the aspiration of grass root workers they announced the boycott of ongoing elections to safeguard their dynastic fiefdoms. Unable to answer BJP’s accusations through hard facts, NC is resorting to spin doctoring and twisting of facts under the false hope of winning back the people, according a press release issued by BJP.

Ridiculing the statement of one of the senior leaders of NC, “BJP redefining democracy in J&K in ULB polls,” Brig Anil Gupta, State Spokesperson of BJP, launched a counter attack on NC by reminding the party that it has been the biggest beneficiary of “unopposed” elections ever since 1951. Having earlier exposed the ugly face of NC in 1951 elections, Brig Gupta reminded the NC leadership of the first assembly elections held in 1957. In the Valley out of 43 seats 30 seats were won unopposed, 10 were won through manipulation by rejecting nomination papers of other candidates on flimsy grounds including that a few were government contractors. In 1962 elections 32 NC candidates won unopposed in Valley. NC has been benefitting from similar manipulations in subsequent elections as well, which none of the leaders of this party are denying. But BJP’s victory is an eyesore for the NC leadership because of the ever growing popularity of the party all across the state evident by the decreasing vote percentage of NC and increasing vote share of BJP, claimed the press release.

NC is responsible for murder of democracy and promotion of militancy in the state after the 1987 elections, is a fact acknowledged world-over. On the question of giving ticket to an ex-militant for Srinagar Municipal Corporation election, Brig Gupta reminded NC to count the number of ex-militants in its ranks and how many of them were colleagues of Abdullahs in their cabinetsat different times?

It is laughable that NC continues to boast of its secular credentials despite being proved to the contrary repeatedly. Farooq Abdullah must be remembering the alliance he stitched in 1983 on religious lines. Was the Resettlement Bill passed by then NC government secular, was carving of Muslim majority districts of Doda and Kargil secular, was Plebiscite Front founded by Sheikh’s closest ally secular, was the idea of Greater Kashmir secular, was granting state citizenship to Ugyur and Tibetan Muslim refugees and denying the same to WPR Hindu refugees secular and finally was the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits secular, are some questions NC needs to answer before self-certification of being “secular”, demanded Brig Gupta.

Srinagar, Oct 5: Militants Friday shot dead two National Conference workers and injured an office bearer by firing at them from close range in the city, three days ahead of the first phase of elections for urban local bodies in Kashmir, police said.

The gunmen fired at the trio at Karfali Mohalla, resulting in injuries to all three, a police official said.

The injured persons were rushed to nearby SMHS Hospital but two of them succumbed, the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Nazir Ahmad Bhat. While both were affiliated to the National Conference, Bhat was working as public relations officer of MLA Habbakadal Shamima Firdous.

The injured person has been identified as Shakeel Ahmad Ganaie, a Halqa president for National Conference. Gram panchayats are known as Halqa in Kashmir.

Security forces have launched an operation to track down militants, the official said.

The killings come just three days ahead of polling for first phase of elections to urban local bodies in the state.

National Conference and PDP have boycotted the polls on the grounds that state's special status under Article 35-A of the Constitution is under threat due to the legal challenge to this provision in the Supreme Court. (PTI)

Jammu, Oct 03: Unable to digest the success of BJP candidates in the ongoing Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) elections, National Conference (NC) is resorting to false propaganda to provoke and mislead the electorate, accused Brig Anil Gupta, State Spokesperson while briefing the media men at Party Headquarters today along with colleague Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan.
Brig Gupta said that regretfully NC has not changed its mind set about the Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave the Valley during 1989 when the government headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah failed to look after their security and their lives were under constant danger due to threats from the extremists. Living in exile in Camps in Jammu, they were dubbed as “Migrants.” Today, when the Kashmiri Pandits are exercising their democratic right and contesting ULB elections, NC has unleashed a false propaganda that BJP is fielding only Migrant candidates and ignoring the locals which is far from truth. Brig Gupta clarified that BJP has fielded only 36 migrant candidates while rest are all locals belonging to Kashmir. True to its style of politics, NC is trying to create a communal divide by twisting the facts.
NC is also blaming the BJP for fielding candidates knowing fully well that there will be no contest and the decision to this effect was taken by the BJP only after the NC had announced boycott of the elections. Exposing the NC’s lie, Brig Gupta clarified that BJP was the first political party to welcome the elections and had announced that it would field candidates in all constituencies. The fact is that NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah had too announced his party’s participation in the elections but sensing imminent defeat threw in the towel without contesting by announcing boycott of the elections.
NC is also questioning the relevance of the elections on the plea that large number of candidates have won unopposed or uncontested. Brig Gupta drew the attention of the media persons to 1951 Constituent Assembly elections conducted by NC under the leadership of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah who wanted to make J&K “a single party state.” “Sheikh blatantly misused power and authority to ensure that no Praja Parishad candidate was allowed to contest by disqualifying and rejecting their papers to avoid contest and won all 75 seats uncontested. If that election was relevant, with what face NC is questioning the relevance of these elections. NC owes an explanation to the people of the state,” demanded Brig Gupta. At least this time a level playing field was offered to all but the fear of certain defeat forced the Abdullahs to announce boycott, asserted Brig Gupta.
Exposing the NCs double game, Brig Gupta took the party leadership to task for back door meetings with PDP for government formation. Nothing has changed with regards to 35A for which these parties announced the boycott but lust for power is compelling them to once again ditch the Kashmiri Awam for their personal gains, accused Brig Gupta.

Jammu, Sept 20: While National Conference (NC) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) are using 35A to bycott the elections of Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), the Congress is trying to play with the emotions of the people of the state, Kashmir in particular, by assuring that if voted to power, nothing will happen to this Article of the Constitution. This is another evil attempt of the Congress to mislead the people just for the sake of getting votes, said BJP State Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan in a press handout.
How can the Congress state with such a certainty about the future of Article 35A when the case has yet to heard by the Supreme Court and give its final judgment? The statement of Congress President amounts to the contempt of the Apex Court, reads the handout.
Balbir Ram Rattan stated that Congress is the root cause of all the problems being faced by the state of Jammu & Kashmir, yet it is unwilling to accept the same and continues to mislead the people under the false belief that it can undo the past by playing with their emotions.
By making such a statement on 35A, Congress has betrayed the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions, who are against the continuation of 35A, Balbir said that when the same Congress says that the issue is within the powers of the State Legislature, it should first explain why this fact has dawn on this party now when it has been ruling the state for decades.
The Supreme Court had advised on a similar line while giving judgement on the case of Bachan Lal Kangotra versus State of Jammu & Kashmir, wherein the Court had hinted that “various local legislatures of J&K are discriminatory to West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs). J&K State Legislature to take action to amend various legislations to grant possible reliefs to the WPRs”.
Why has Congress failed to act on the advice of the Apex Court while in power, questioned the Spokesperson adding that the people of J&K are not gullible and they fully understand the game plan of the Congress and will teach it a lesson in the forthcoming elections.
Balbir also took serious note of the statement of the Congress party terming BJP as a communal party and reminded the Congress that it was the harbinger of communal and caste politics of India.

Jammu, Sept 06: National Conference (NC) has quitted the local bodies’ elections without contesting thus conceding defeat and accepting the reality that it has lost its mass base in all three regions of the state according to a press release issued by Bharatiya Janata Party. Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Saturday 02 September 2018, denounced militants and the separatist leadership for urging people to boycott polls and said they want to “keep pot boiling in Kashmir as they make fortunes out of people’s miseries.” Urging people to participate in the upcoming urban local bodies and Panchayat polls, Farooq said boycotting polls won’t help anybody. “It won’t resolve Kashmir issue and neither India nor Pakistan can benefit from it. It is for the betterment and development of people of the state.”
“Why same Farooq Abdullah has made a U-turn in 48 hrs and started singing the same tune as that of separatists and terrorists?Isn't he and his party also making fortune out of people's miseries?” questioned Brig Anil Gupta, State Spokesperson of BJP. Sensing imminent defeat in the forthcoming elections due to the poor response the party got in all three regions, NC has chosen the softer option of “quitting without contest” and resort to its tried and tested strategy of communal cum divisive politics by exploiting the regional and religious sentiments of the people of the state. The party has chosen Article 35A as an alibi only to distract the people from the reality of apparent ignominious defeat according to the press release.
The fact is that the feudal mind set of the party and its hereditary hierarchy are contradictory to the very concept of devolution of power to the grass roots level. Under the pretext of 35A, the Abdullahs want to save their own turf and fiefdom and retain their monopoly on control of funds received from the centre so that they can fill their coffers and of their cronies. “By boycotting the elections to the lowest echelons of grass roots democracy, NC has not only betrayed the people of Jammu & Kashmir but also its founding father Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah,” asserted Brig Gupta.
 “If NC is so concerned about the fate of Article 35A, why it did not boycott the elections to Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil? Why it did not oppose the local bodies’ elections at the very outset? What has forced the party to come on same page with terrorists and separatists? For how long the party can rely on opportunism without exposing its real face that is characterised by ‘duality’? These are a few questions the party needs to answer to the people since the party claims to be ‘voice of the people’ and true representative of all three regions of the state” demanded Brig Gupta.

Jammu, Aug 02: Prior to the amendment of Public Safety Act in 2011 by Omar Abdullah led NC-Congress coalition government hard core terrorists and top most separatist leaders were housed in prisons outside the state in places like Jodhpur in Rajasthan and other places in UP, Punjab and Bihar. The ordinance issued by Omar Abdullah government in 2011 to prohibit shifting Kashmiri prisoners outside the state was politically motivated and meant to please the pro-Pak separatists accused Brig Anil Gupta, State Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party. “Omar Abdullah’s decision had no justification because housing the hard core terrorists in jails within the state only promoted terrorism and separatist forces. The misuse of this provision became very evident since the terrorists were enjoying 5-star facilities inside Central Jail Kashmir and other jails of the state under political patronage. They were not only radicalising the other prisoners but also planning and directing terrorist operations from within the jail. The seizures made from Srinagar and Baramulla Central Jails and the escape from police custody of dreaded terrorist Nadeem Jatt thoroughly exposed the reality of the happenings inside the jails,” stated Brig Gupta.
“Even there was a comparative calm in separatist activities when the likes of Geelani, Yasin Malik were lodged in jails outside the state. The present day spurt in separatist activities can be directly attributed to that amendment because under the garb of “house arrest”, these separatist leaders continued to stay inside their luxurious houses and continue with their political activities including issue of monthly hartal calendars. Obviously, the decision of Omar was not in national interest but part of the appeasement politics for which both the Congress and NC are notorious.” blamed Brig Gupta.
Bharatiya Janata Party welcomes and appreciates the decision taken by the State Administration Council (SAC) headed by Shri NN Vohra, Honourable Governor and head of the government to cancel motivated amendment made by Omar Abdullah and approved deletion of Section 10 of the PSA. This would restore status quo ante and enable lodging of the detainees under PSA in any jail in the country.
“BJP also strongly condemns the statements of separatist leaders and JKNC General Secretary, Ali MohdSagar and PDP criticising the decision of the SAC. It is highly ridiculous that the decision is being linked with state’s special status. Even legally a detainee has no right to decide his place of detention and the discretion lies with the lodger,” stated Brig Gupta. JKNC, PDP and other valley based politicians are trying to emotionally exploit the people by linking this issue with Article 370 and 35A.

BJP, Congress, NC, PDP all betrayed the people of borders: Harsh

Jammu, May 24: Expressing immense shock over the loss of property and life caused by the persistent heavy mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan on the forward villages of IB in Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts, a strong contingent of Panther activists staged a massive protest demonstration spearheaded by Mr. Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Mr.Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers at Exhibition Ground Jammu today. While torching the effigy of the BJP, the angry protestors slammed the Central as well as the State government for their despicable apathy and gross failure to provide 5 Marla plots at safer zones to the border residents of Jammu region as promised by both the governments.
Mr. Harsh Dev Singh while addressing the media condemned Pakistan for pounding the forward villages all along the IB with heavy shelling and firing which had thrown the life of the people out of gear. He said that the border residents were living in horrifying atmosphere and the BJP partnered State government had paid no heed to their plight and miseries as of now. He pointed out that the children, women and aged were the worst sufferers of the Pak misadventure who were looking at the administration for an immediate relief and rehabilitation to safer zones. He regretted that severe lack of ambulance and allied health services besides defunct Primary Health Centers in the forward hamlets had led to deaths of the injured people which otherwise could have been prevented by timely intervention. He added that several human lives and livestock had perished during incessant firing and shelling besides heavy damage had been caused to the houses and crops of the local residents. Deeply anguished over the miserable plight of the border dwellers all along the IB in Jammu region, Mr. Singh expressed his resentment against both the Central and State governments for doling promises and assurances to the border residents time and again for their relief and rehabilitation but nothing tangible had been delivered so far. He reiterated his demanded for an immediate allotment of 5 Marla of land for each family at safer zones, special recruitment drives, reservation akin to ALC residents, adequate bunkers for emergency situation, ex-gratia to the family of the person killed in Pak firing and to those injured and employment for the next of kin of the deceased and adequate assessment based compensation for the loss of crops, cattle stock and damaged houses as relief measures for the affected people living in the forward hamlets.
Mr. Harsh Dev Singh wondered that how could BJP Ministers enjoy the loaves of power and keep their ally in good humour when their own people were afflicted with pain, chagrin and outrage. He cautioned the BJP to address the issues of the border residents seriously and stop making their contemptuous mockery by betraying them on false assurances. He asked the BJP to provide the promised relief to them without any delay otherwise the seething anger of the people would throw the Saffron party on the mat only to bite the dust. While lambasting Pakistan for sponsoring terror and creating war like situation in the State, he exhorted the GoI to take a stringent and deterrent action against the belligerent enemy rather than condemning the border skirmishes so that it could be restrained once for all from carrying out further misadventures.
Mr. Yash Paul Kundal raising voice in conformity with the genuine demands of the people living along the IB demanded provision of reservation besides other benefits and privileges for the border dwellers at par with the residents of ALC pertaining to government jobs etc. He regretted that the tall pronouncement of the BJP for conducting Special Recruitment Drive had proven to be mere rhetoric. He demanded that the local youth residing in border areas should be absorbed under Special Recruitment drive for Police, Armed and Paramilitary forces without any delay. The NPP leaders vowed that Panthers party shall stand with the border residents in all odds and circumstances and assured the people that it shall not relent unless all the demands of the people and the affected families in particular were addressed by both the Central and the State governments.

Srinagar, May 12: Working president of National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah alleged that BJP leaders had gobbled up the land and later hoped to use their influence to regularise the purchase.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mr Abdullah, the former Chief Minister, said, 'BJP leaders' homes in Jammu are 'a security risk', according to the Army. It was well-known locally they gobbled up the land at cheap price & had hoped to use their influence to regularise the purchase.' 
He was reacting to media reports that J&K BJP leaders, including current Deputy Chief Minister and MP, who had bought land next to Nagrota ammunition depot, has been declared illegal by the Army. UNI

Srinagar, May 8: Alleging that Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and PDP-BJP alliance has failed, working president of the opposition National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to realize the gravity of the situation as much blood has been shed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ms Mehbooba should step down from her chair, the former chief minister said.
“The J&K govt has failed, the CM has failed, the BJP-PDP alliance has failed. How much blood will have to be shed in Kashmir before the Hon PM realises the gravity of the situation in J&K? When will enough finally be enough?', Mr Abdullah asked on twitter.
The NC working president also re-tweeted a number of tweets of former union minister P Chidambaram on his twitter account.
Demanding that Mehbooba should step down, Mr Abdullah said the Chief Minister should accept her failure to govern and inability to handle the deteriorating situation in the state. 
The youth of the state “feel betrayed and are being pushed against the wall as the ruling PDP-BJP alliance has robbed them of hope while being solely obsessed with the goal of remaining glued to power, the NC working president said at a public meeting at Kargil in Ladakh region on Monday.
He said the CM should accept her failure as civilian killings, instability and violence seem to have become the norm in the state. She should step down before the situation deteriorates any further, Mr Abdullah said.
He said regrets being expressed by Mr Mehbooba after every civilian killings was not enough as she continues to augment the sense of hostility and alienation among the youth. 
Mr Abdullah re-tweeted the tweets of Mr Chidambaran which read, 'Share J&K CM's concern that statesmanship required to get J&K out of the vicious cycle of killings. Sad that she does not see that her coalition government is the core of the problem”.
“The central government's muscular, militaristic approach to the J&K issue has driven the state towards the present catastrophic situation”, the Union Minister and senior Congress leader has tweeted. 
“The PDP-BJP coalition is the gravest provocation to the people of the Kashmir valley. Mehboobaji, quit the coalition immediately and go back to the people”, Chidambaam said.

Srinagar, May 4: Upping the ante at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah said someone should ask Mr Adityanath why campaigning in Karnataka is a bigger priority than visiting some of the families, who lost their loved ones in the dust storms.
'If you do an interview with the CM of UP & don't ask him why campaigning in Karnataka is a bigger priority than visiting some of the families who lost loved ones in the dust storms then it's a puff piece, not an interview,' the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Over 100 people were killed in a dust storm, accompanied by rain that created havoc across Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on Thursday, uprooting trees and flattening houses. UNI

Srinagar, May 4: The main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference (NC) has sent a legal notice to a person, who represented himself as spokesperson for the party (NC) in debates on private national television channels.
Working president of the NC Omar Abdullah has also recently asked a national private television channel why it is taking fake spokespersons and giving them a platform on their channel in debate.
State spokesperson of the NC Junaid Azim Mattu said one Yaqoob Malik, who is being introduced as spokesman for the party (NC), was never been a functionary or media panelist of the party.
He said a legal notice has been sent to him for being an imposter. Mattu further said that all television channels mentioning this baseless misrepresentation are being made a part of this legal action for punitive damages.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Mr Mattu said, 'This man Yaqoob Malik has not at ANY TIME been a spokesperson, functionary or media panelist of @JKNC_ and has been sent a legal notice for being an imposter. All channels mentioning this baseless misrepresentation are being made a part of this legal action for punitive damages.'
Mr Abdullah also retweeted the tweet of Mattu.
Earlier on March 30, the former Chief Minister said, 'Let me try & make it abundantly clear to you in simple language Yaqoob Malik DOES NOT REPRESENT @JKNC_ & if you choose to have him on your panel he speaks ONLY FOR HIMSELF.'
He further tweeted '@ZeeNews why do you take fake spokespersons & give them a platform on your channel? @JKNC_ has made it abundantly clear to you that this man you have on your panel is not even an office bearer of my party”. UNI

Srinagar, Apr 20: Taking a dig at Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh for showing lack of confidence in Jammu and Kashmir police in Kathua rape and murder case, the working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) alleged that this is how BJP is playing politics and inciting trouble.
Reacting to Dr Singh’s statement that actual culprits should be found and pronounced guilty in Kathua rape case, the former Chief Minister said, “The Deputy CM has just pronounced his complete LACK of confidence in the @JmuKmrPolice & the J&K High Court which is overseeing the Kathua probe. This is how they play politics & incite trouble”.
The Crime Branch (CB) of state police has arrested and produced challan in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kathua against eight people arrested in connection with the case. However, the Hindu Ekta Manch (HEM) has demanded that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the crime. Two BJP ministers-- Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga-- who took part in the protest demonstration by HEM against arrest of accused, had to resign from the coalition PDP-BJP government following massive protests across the country against the crime.
Dr Singh had, on Friday, said that it was a bigger conspiracy hatched from across the border to set Jammu and Kashmir on fire by ranking up the Kathua incident. He alleged that the case was wrongly projected by opposition parties and a section of media.
Choudhary Singh, Mr Ganga and HEM are demanding CBI investigation while the family of victims are demanding shifting of case to Chandigarh from Kathua, where a group of lawyers had tried to prevent CB to present challan in the court.

Srinagar, Apr 14: Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah hit out on a section of people on Saturday for attempting to communalise the rape and brutal murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua.
'If some of you want to defend the rape of a minor girl and can live with yourselves after that be my guest, but please don’t try to make it look like a Hindu vs Muslims issue,' he said.
Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of National Conference (NC), said that a handful of bigoted men misusing a place of worship with the express aim of driving Muslims out from the area, is not a reflection of the people of Jammu and their commitment to the secular character of J&K.
“Kathua is about the rape and murder of an EIGHT year old child & the need to see justice done in this case. The rest of the noise is just an attempt at obfuscation,” he wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
“So if some of you want to defend the rape of a minor girl and can live with yourselves after that, be my guest but please don’t try to make it look like a Hindus of Jammu v/s Muslims issue,” he said.
He said the people of Jammu are no more guilty of this crime than the people of Delhi for the rape of Nirbhaya in 2012.
“Some people are determined to sell the binary that demanding justice for the victim of the Kathua travesty is akin to calling every Hindu of Jammu a rape sympathiser,” Mr Abdullah added. UNI

Srinagar, Apr 13: Alleging that the first ‘pro-rapist’ rally in Asifa’s case was carried out by two of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s ministers, who continue to serve in the state Cabinet, National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah on Friday asked what action will be taken against them.
Mr Abdullah was reacting to Ms Mehbooba’s assertion that the state government will bring a new law that will make death penalty mandatory for those who rape minors, so that little Ashifa’s case becomes the last.
“Mehbooba ji before you try to convince us that you would be able to safeguard future Asifas, what action will you take against your Ministers, who supported Asifa’s murderers?” Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of the state, tweeted.
“Dear PDP, the first “pro-rapist” rally was taken out by two of Mehbooba Mufti’s ministers & they continue to serve at the pleasure of the Chief Minister in her cabinet,” he tweeted.
“When asked why the pro-rapist BJP ministers continue to serve in @MehboobaMufti’s cabinet the PDP spokesperson said, “that’s a question for PM Modi”. Oh the helplessness of our powerless Chief Minister!” he added.
Mr Abdullah also lashed out at BJP Cabinet minister Lal Singh for his comment, "so what if this girl has died, many girls die every day' remains unnoticed by the high command.
“So what if the person, who said this remains a minister in @MehboobaMufti’s government, compromises are made for power every day,” he added.
Meanwhile, lashing out at people, including BJP Ministers, seeking the Asifa rape and murder case to be transferred from Crime Branch of state police to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Mr Abdullah said J&K police is fine for them so long as the personnel are falling to militants bullets and getting injured in stone pelting but when it comes to investigating a wicked rape/murder suddenly they can’t be trusted.
Mr Abdullah was reacting to a tweet which read, “The BJP Jammu spokesperson tells me they have no faith in J and K police crime branch investigation in Kathua rape; but isn't the BJP in power in J and K and doesn't police report to state govt or is there one govt in Srinagar, and another in Jammu? #JusticeforAsifa.” 
A group of lawyers even tried to prevent CBI from producing the challan in the court on Monday. However, later with the help of police the challan was filed in the court.
Seven persons were arrested by the CBI in the rape and murder case. A number of BJP leaders and Kathua Bar Association demanded that the case should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Two ministers of the BJP also joined the protest against the arrest of accused, evoking massive condemnation from various organisations. UNI

The information was revealed by the working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) Omar on his twitter account on Saturday.
He said“It’s not the winning or losing that matters, the thrill is in just being nominated.(Gotta say this since I never win these things ).
Omar Abdullah, who is leader of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly (LA), is representing Beerwah constituency in the house but he lost in Sonawar seat during 2014 election.

Srinagar, Apr 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, her predecessors--Omar Abdullah and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah-- have wished ailing Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley a speedy recovery. 
Ms Mufti, taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, said “ Wishing @arunjaitley ji a swift recovery”.
“ My father (Dr Farooq Abdullah) & colleagues join me in wishing you a speedy & complete recovery sir”, Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Srinagar, Mar 26: Questioning Air India’s refusal to disclose Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flight record under Right to Information (RTI), former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said how the information was secret when all visits took place in the glare of massive media coverage.
Mr Abdullah, working president of the main opposition National Conference (NC), was reacting to media reports that Air India refused to disclose the flight records saying PM Modi’s flight records cannot be disclosed under RTI due to security reasons.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter Mr Abdullah said “ I can understand questions related to forthcoming visits but how is information regarding flights/visits already undertaken a security risk? All visits took place in the glare of massive media coverage”. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 14: With Supreme Court (SC) staying "mandatory" Aadhaar linking with bank accounts and mobile phones indefinitely till the final judgment is pronounced, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he will not link anything to Aadhaar until he absolutely has to.
Mr Abdullah, who is also the working president of National Conference (NC), asked banks and cellular companies to stop spamming him with emails and messages. 
'Dear HDFC, Airtel & others please stop spamming me with emails/messages now. I’m not linking anything to Aadhaar until I absolutely have to,' Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
The comment by the former Chief Minister comes after a five-judge Constitution bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, on Tuesday said the government ‘cannot insist’ that citizens must provide Aadhaar details for operating bank accounts, holding phone connections and applying for tatkaal passports. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 13: National Conference (NC) President and MP Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took the right decision to sack Dr Haseeb Drabu from the state cabinet after his comment that ‘Kashmir is not a political issue’.
“All political parties in the valley, besides civil society and common masses rejected the statement made by Dr Drabu… and because of this pressure the ruling party sacked Dr Drabu,” Mr Abdullah said.
“It is the internal matter of PDP, so I can’t say much about it. But, I think it was the right decision taken by them (PDP),” he said.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday removed Dr Drabu from her cabinet for his remarks that Kashmir is not a political issue. Education Minister Altaf Bukhari has been given additional charge of Finance, Labour and Employment departments.
The statement by Dr Drabu created a political storm in the valley and had drawn criticism from the ruling PDP, opposition and separatists alike. The decision by Mehbooba-led government came at a time when the PDP and its coalition partner, the BJP, are at loggerheads on a range of issues, including over rape and murder case of Asifa Bano in Kathua in Jammu region.
“Don’t see J&K as a conflict state and a political issue. It is a society which has social issues right now. We are trying to find our own space and we are going through a process which many other countries are also going through,” Dr Drabu had said at an event ‘Kashmir: The Way Forward’, organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry at New Delhi.
“It (J&K) is not a political issue as far as I can see. They have been barking up the wrong tree for the last 50 or 70 years by talking about the politics of it, that the political situation has never improved. We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself,” he had said.
The PDP had on Sunday demanded an explanation from Dr Drabu and asked him to retract his statement immediately as it was contradictory to their stand.
The NC had also demanded explanation from the Chief Minister on the statement of Drabu and questioned PDP's stand on Kashmir issue, including 'Self Rule'. Separatist organisations had also reacted sharply against Drabu's statement. UNI
