Jammu, Sept 24: On a part of cleanliness drive, NSS wing of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized a swachh Bharat Abhiyan today to spread the awareness about ‘Swachh Bharat mission’ by the Government of India. A major derive was also conducted in the university for the removal of garbage and unused material from the campus. Faculty Coordinator NSS Mr. Sumanta S Sharma informed that that university had adopted nearby villages of Kakryal under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in order to transform them into model villages. The event culminating on 2 nd Oct, 2018 commemorates the 150 th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr. Anil K. Tewari, Nodal Officer, Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan emphasized to organize awareness camps to educate people about garbage management to keep their surroundings clean.Many students participated on the inaugural day where they cleaned various areas. The student coordinators of the event were Mr. Dhanraj, Mr. Saransh, Mr. Akhil, Mr. Prabhakar, Mr. Neel Kamal, Ms. Neha, Ms. Simran, Ms. Aruna, Ms. Shubhangi, Ms. Saloni and Ms.Sanya. Vice Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Jain appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged them to keep the surroundings clean and spread the Swachh Bharat Mission message among their family and friends back home.

Jammu, Sept 21: Mr. Rohit Kumar Maurya, an alumnus (2011-15) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, is visiting MIT Cambridge, USA. Mr. Maurya is currently pursuing M.Tech.in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Thermal and Fluids Engineering from IIT Bombay. As a Tata Fellow, he is currently working on an agricultural project, titled “Energy Efficient Jaggery Maker”, which is aimed to enhance the efficiency of Indian jaggery industry and make it more profitable. This project is funded by Tata Centre for Technology and Design, IIT Bombay. As a part of the Tata Fellowship, he will be visiting MIT Tata Centre, Cambridge, USA, a sister organization of TCTD, IITB, for 2 weeks from 25 September, 2018 onwards. The objective of this visit is to understand the approach and methodology used by researchers at MIT for any particular social problem. In this series, he will be attending MIT Tata Centre's Symposium and Workshops, visiting labs and research centres along with meetings with social entrepreneurs. He has also served as Junior Research Fellow at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, BARC Mumbai and had worked in the broad area of agriculture for his major project. He understands that there is a huge gap between available technology and existing problems which motivates him to steer his work in the agricultural field as he himself comes from an agrarian background. Dr. Sanjeev Jain, the Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU congratulated Mr. Maurya and exhorted upon the student and scholar community to follow the path of hard work, commitment, dedication and sincerity to achieve their best and desired goals.

SRINAGAR, JULY 17:  Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, was apprised about the expansion plans of the University with respect to construction of three proposed buildings, namely a new Academic Block, an Indoor Sports Complex and a Scholars Family Hostel. Governor was given a presentation about these projects by representatives of M/S Kothari Associates Pvt. Ltd, the Architect Consultant engaged by SMVD University.
Sh. B. B. Vyas, Member of the Shrine Board; Sh Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; Sh Dheeraj Gupta CEO SMVD Shrine Board; Dr Sanjeev Jain Vice Chancellor SMVD University; Dr. V K Bhat Registrar of University and other officials of SMVDU participated in the meeting.
Governor advised the VC’s team and the Architects to ensure that the buildings are optimally located, keeping in view the longer-term land requirement in the Campus. He advised that the details of the buildings should be finalized entirely in line with sustainable and green practices and directed that all buildings should provide for access to disability, generation of renewable energy through installation solar panels, and both conservation and harvesting of water resources.
The proposed Academic Block as envisaged will facilitate academic activities of mainly Engineering and Science disciplines with provision of Laboratories, Class Rooms and Lecture Theatres of varied capacities, Dean’s Annexe and Faculty Rooms at various floors in the five storeyed high building.
To facilitate extra- curricular activities and encourage students to develop their talents, an Indoor Sports Stadium shall be constructed in the University campus, which will have a Basket Ball, Badminton and Squash Courts; Table Tennis Hall; Skating Rink; Boxing Ring; Swimming Pool together with a running track. To meet the needs of increasing social events, a community hall has also been proposed in the complex.
To foster research, in line with the vision of the University, a Scholars Family Hostel is also proposed to be constructed for married research scholars. It will comprise 50 residential units with the facility of common rooms and children’s play areas.

Jammu, May 24: The JKNPP held an urgent meeting of its Women Wing at Jammu under the chairmanship of Ms. Anita Thakur, General Secretary of the Party expressing grave concern on the kind of insecurity of the working employees (a nurse this time) who was brutally killed by her throat slit a day before. Ms. Anita Thakur expressing shock on the most tragic murder of a working nurse of a hospital run by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Hospital at Katra. The women committee of the Panthers Party in a resolution demanded a judicial probe into this gruesome murder without any delay and take appropriate action against the murderers who have shocked the conscious of millions of people who come from all over the country and even from abroad to pay homage in the Darbar of Mata Vaishno Devi. The resolution also conveyed sympathies with the family of the nurse murdered in the SMVD hospital. 
Ms. Anita Thakur said that a representation has been sent to Shri N.N. Vohra, the Governor of J&K who is also the Chairman of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine which is running the said hospital in Katra (District Reasi) in Jammu province.
