Beijing, Sep 19: Amid the escalating trade war with US, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Wednesday appealed for global support for free trade, saying "unilateralism" does not offer solutions to trade disputes which should be redressed through consultation.

Speaking at the summer session of the World Economic Forum in the eastern city of Tianjin, Li, the second ranking leader of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), also ruled out any attempts by Beijing to weaken the Chinese currency to boost its exports.

"It is essential that we uphold the basic principles of multilateralism and free trade," Li said a day after China and the US swapped tit-for-tat tariffs.

While US President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese products worth about USD 200 billion on Tuesday, on top of USD 50 billion already targeted, China said it would retaliate with tariff hike on USD 60 billion worth of US imports to be effective from next Monday.

After Beijing decided to retaliate Tuesday with duties on American products, Trump accused China of seeking to influence midterm congressional elections by taking aim at his political base.

Without directly referring to the ongoing tariff war, Li said solutions "need to be worked out through consultations."

"No unilateralism will offer a viable solution," he said.

He also said China has no intention of weakening its currency to help exporters and will not engage in any form of competitive devaluation of its exchange rate.

China will stick to market-oriented reform of the exchange rate formation mechanism and won't pursue competitive devaluation of its currency, he said.

"China will create conditions for a stable exchange rate," Li said, rebutting speculation that the Chinese government deliberately engineered the devolution of the currency in recent months.

The Yuan depreciated by about eight per cent against the US dollar since March which led to the speculation that it was aimed offsetting the effects of US tariffs on Chinese imports.

Some people think China deliberately [devalued the yuan]; this is groundless, Li said, in an indirect response to Trump's allegations that Beijing is manipulating its currency, the Hong-Kong based South China Morning Post reported.

"A one-way depreciation will do more harm than good for China," Li said.

"China will not choose the path of bolstering exports by devaluing the yuan the yuan exchange rate will be kept basically stable," he said.

Li also said China will adopt a stricter protection system on intellectual property rights (IPRs), a key demand by Trump to protect the rights of US technology investors in China.

Li said that protecting IPRs means protecting and stimulating innovation. China cannot achieve innovative development without an environment that respects knowledge and protects property rights, he said.

He also said China has become a new fertile land for global entrepreneurs and innovation, with new growth drivers breaking new ground for the country's economic development.

Trump has been pressuring China to reduce the trade deficit with the US, totalling to USD 335.4 billion in 2017.

Earlier, both sides had resumed trade talks but at a lower level. Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen held talks in Washington but without much results. (PTI)

LEH, JULY 02: The Accountant General A&E Jammu and Kashmir Shourjo Chatterjee inaugurated the 3-day Pension Adalat today at DC office conference hall.
The Adalat is being organized by Office of the Accountant General (Accounts and Entitlement) Jammu and Kashmir and supported by District Administration Leh. The Adalat is being organized exclusively for resolution of grievances of the pensioner/family pensioners, early settlement of the pending/unsettled or revision cases (including 7th CPC revision) and creating awareness in the matter amongst Pension Sanctioning Authorities and other stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, AG (Pension) Jammu and Kashmir Shourjo Chatterjee said such kind of Adalat proves helpful in resolving grievances and verification of pension cases at their respective places and saves trouble to the outgoing employees as minor issues are also solved here to save any inconvenience of travel and sundry.
During the Adalat, on the spot verifications of the pension papers / service books with regard to their completeness and correctness in respect of the employees retiring within next six months, review of pension and family pension cases pending with the departments, redressal of grievances of the pensioners/family pensioners was carried out.
Chief Accounts Officer District Fund Office Leh StanzinDonsal conducted the meeting. Senior Accounts Officer AG Office J&K K L Choudhary, Accounts Officer AG Office J&K N A Peerzada, officers and officials of AG Office J&K and the Leh District were also present. The Adalat will begin at 10.30 in the morning on both 3rd and 4th July.

Agartala, May 4: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has gotassurance of special package from Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitelyfor implementation of 7th central pay commission (CPC) for the stategovernment employees and some other development projects during hismeeting last evening at New Delhi.
According to report, Deb also demanded to consider the gap grant ofpre-devaluation of 14thFinance Commission for the state to tide overthe financial crisis besides; special packages for developmentprojects have been undertaken by the government.
Soon after assumed office chief minister in his first visit had soughta special package of Rs 20,000 Cr in which Rs 11000 Cr was over spentby previous government. 
To implement 7th CPC the state government required Rs 1400 Cr extra annually 
for about two lakhs employees and pensioners, officials stated.
“Jaitelyji had a patient hearing on the demand of additional fund toimplement the promises laid down in BJP’s vision document released byhim before assembly election,” Deb said, adding that finance ministerwas very much positive and sympathetic towards the demand of Tripuraand certainly something will happen soon.
The chief minister called on Rajnath Singh and discussed issuesrelated to strengthening of internal security and border management ofTripura following continuous incidences of cross border crimes andillegal narcotic business between two countries.
“We stressed on prioritizing border management to stop illegalmovement,” Deb said.
Also there has been discussion to facilitate clearance of movement ofheavy goods and equipment of various PSUs such as ONGC via AshuganjPort (Bangladesh) into Agartala directly to the go downs as per theprotocol adopted for FCI in 2015 under which it was permitted to take good carriers though prescribed routes up to the go downs.
The chief minster argued that the proposed transportation system wouldnot only save the time also reduce transportation costs required fortransshipment at the Integrated Check Post (ICP). Deb will also assumeto take up the matter in the meeting of NE Chief Ministers with UnionExternal Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today on pushing up Act EastPolicy.
Deb however, held meeting with Chief Managing Directors (CMD) ofNational Building Construction Company Ltd (NBCC), ONGC, DirectorGeneral of Software Technology Park of India (STPI) and ChiefExecutive Officer (CEO) of MyGov and asked them to speed up theprojects implemented by them in the state and also to increase theirCSR activities in Tripura to supplement the development initiatives ofthe government.
Apart from that, NBCC has been requested to partner in setting up ofIndian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Tripura and toundertake re-development plan of Kunjaban Township area in Agartala on PPP model.
Chief minister Deb further requested Director General of STPI to set up third Software Technology Park in Agartala apart from theexisting two units as assured by IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. 
CM apprised him that about 1.4 acre of land for construction of third STPI building will be provided by the state. During the meeting with Arvind Gupta, CEO, MyGov, Deb requested theuse of the digital platform of MyGov for Tripura to take the messageof the Prime Minister across the world. UNI

Agartala, Apr 21: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb yesterday met Principal Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Nripendra Mishra in Delhi to pursue the assurance given to him by the Centre.
The chief minister submitted the brief of the list of requirements to the principle secretary.
Deb reiterated him that Prime Minister and Finance Minister had made several promises before the assembly election and unless additional financial support is extended from the Centre, it would not be possible to fulfill the promises.
He asked for a special financial assistance of Rs 20,000 Cr that includes an additional grant for implementation of 7th CPC and to manage the financial burden of the previous government to the tune of Rs 11,000 Cr.
The chief minister also requested Misra to grant one time relaxation of academic and professional qualification laid down by National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) for filling up the 12,222 posts of teachers.
Deb also sought the attention of PMO to look into the matter of CBI enquiry into the murder of two journalists of Tripura – Shantanu Bhowmik and Sudip Datta and 63 cases of chit fund, which have been sent to Department of Personnel & Training for ensuring CBI investigation.
Demanding an agriculture university in Tripura, Chief Minister highlighted that the state economy is based on agriculture and about 50 per cent population is dependent on agriculture activities. Setting up of a Central Agriculture University will greatly help the state. He told the principal secretary that the basic building blocks for the proposed University exist in Tripura.
Seeking an AIIMS like health institution in Tripura, Deb pointed out that the Northeastern region as a whole and Tripura in particular lacks in specialized healthcare facilities, due to which a large number of poor patients have to go to Delhi and other parts of the country for treatment.
The AIIMS like Institution in Tripura will not only benefit people of Tripura but also people of neighbouring lower Assam and Mizoram. Moreover, it would attract large number of patients from eastern Bangladesh which would not only be a good source of foreign exchange but also help in fostering better relations with Bangladesh.
Deb claimed that the Principal Secretary assured that all the issues would be properly examined and assured that appropriate actions would be taken at the earliest.

New Delhi, March 28: Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal will inaugurate the first mega food park in Rajasthan at Roopangarh village in Ajmer on Thursday.
The food park is being set up at a cost of Rs 113.57 crore and will cover around 25,000 farmers in Ajmer and adjoining districts.
The facilities being created at Central Processing Centre (CPC) of this Mega Food Park include cold storage of 5,000 tonnes, deep freeze of 2,550 tonnes, Individual Quick Freezing of 2 tonnes per hour, dry warehouse for raw materials of 2,500 tonne capacity and dry warehouse for finished goods of 5,000 tonnes.
The food park will also have silos of 6,500-tonne capacity, steam generator of 8 tonnes per hour, and other related food processing facilities.
The mega food park will leverage an additional investment of about Rs. 250 crore in 25-30 food processing units in the park. It is expected to lead to a turnover of about Rs. 450-500 crore per annum.
The park has the potential for providing employment to people and benefit farmers in the vicinity. It will prove to be a big boost to the growth of the food processing sector in Rajasthan, the officials of the Ministry of Food Processing said.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is creating mega food parks with modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along the value chain from farm to market with strong forward and backward linkages through a cluster based approach under the flagship scheme of ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana’. UNI

Beijing, Mar 17: Mr Xi Jinping was unanimously elected Chinese president for second term on Saturday morning at the ongoing session of the 13th National People's Congress.
Mr Xi, 64, was also unanimously elected chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), a report in Chinese state news agency Xinhua said. 
In a first, Mr Xi took a public oath of allegiance to the Constitution in the Great Hall of the People.
In October 2017, he was elected general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and appointed CMC chairman of the CPC at the first plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.
He was first elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee in late 2012, and Chinese president and CMC chairman of the PRC in March 2013.
In 2007, Xi joined the central leadership as a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. UNI
