KUPWARA, JULY 21: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting to review the implementation of ‘Shehjar livelihood project’ which is supported by Indian Red Cross Society.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, ACR, ACD, CEO, CMO, DSWO, Deputy Director Fire & Emergency, officials from Police and Civil administration and officials from Red Cross.
General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, State Branch apprised the meeting that 75 Women headed households of Kupwara district would be identified for imparting vocational training in cutting and tailoring to enable them to earn their livelihood under the project.
The training will be imparted in Kupwara and each beneficiary will be paid stipend during the training period. Post-training linkages would also be provided in shape of tools and equipment.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Kupwara said that Red Cross has been doing tremendous service towards the uplift of the weaker sections of the society and the need of the hour is to augment the Society's efforts by offering a helping hand in identifying the deserving beneficiaries.

KULGAM, MAY 19: District Development Commissioner Kulgam, Sajad Hussain, chaired a meeting of Rent Assessment Committee (RAC) here today and approved 14 cases pertaining to various departments.
During the meeting, DDC held a detailed discussion with officers of different departments which are functioning from rented accommodations in the district and with the owners of these buildings.
After detailed deliberations, the Committee approved 14 rent assessment cases. The DDC directed the concerned to expedite the payment of rents as per the rates approved in the meeting.
ADC Kulgam Executive Engineer R&B, DSWO, District Officers from various departments, and owners of the rented buildings were also present at the meeting.

SAMBA, MAY 18: Deputy Commissioner Samba chaired a sensitization session on Juvenile Justice Act and Rules here today.
Issues related to children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection were discussed in the meeting.
The session was attended by SSP, Chairman CWC Samba, Project Officer (PO) ICDS, CMO   ,CEO ,ASP, DSWO , CDPOs, Police Officials, members of JJB and CWC and representatives  of NGOs.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC emphasised upon the participating functionaries and officers to ensure implementation of Juvenile Justice Act and Rules at the ground level and in letter and spirit.
He further directed for creation of mass awareness about this Act and asked the functionaries to involve nambardars, chowkidars and local representatives at village level for effective implementation of this Act.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Chairman Child Welfare Committee Samba, Mubarak Singh highlighted the importance of the Juvenile Justice Act and Rules. He suggested forming of sub committees at block and Panchayat level for mass awareness and effective implementation of the act.
Project Officer, ICDS also briefed about Juvenile Justice Act and Rules through a power point presentation.

 JAMMU, JANUARY 16 – Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology Sajad Gani Lone informed the House that the cash assistance under State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS) is being credited directly into the individual bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Replying to a question of Saif-ud-Din Bhat, the Minister informed that the beneficiaries are required to apply at the concerned District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) along with the required documents to take benefit of the scheme.
 Giving details, he informed that the DSWO submits the cases to the District Level Sanctioning Committee and it clears the cases in the light of eligibility criteria. He said the list is finally submitted to Administrative Department. HGe however said that the government has asked the District Level Sanctioning Committee/Administrative Department to settle the cases in a time bound manner as per the availability of funds, he added.
          He further informed that there are more than two lakh old age, handicap and widow pension cases pending in the state including 1,53,699 under Integrated Social Security Scheme and 1,13,991 under National Social Assistance Programme.

          Related to the issue of rising pendency in the number of cases, the Minister said that the state receives a fixed amount from Centre as the scheme is not demand driven and new cases are included only after vacancy arises in the existing numbers.
