JAMMU, APRIL 06: Dr. Khurshid Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir met Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, and briefed him about certain issues relating to the Universitys functioning.
Governor re-iterated his concern about the sustenance of the academic environment in the Campus and advised VC to early appoint respected Faculty members as Counsellors Mentors in every Department to maintain continuing close contact with the students and to particularly provide them all required help and guidance. Side by side, the teaching, examination and declaration of result schedules must not be delayed.
Governor complimented VC, Faculty and students for the University securing the 47th position among the top 100 Universities in the country in the ranking done by Ministry of Human Resource Development under the National Institutional Ranking Framework.
Governor stressed the crucial importance of all Faculty members remaining responsible for timely and satisfactorily completing the courses and effectively safeguarding their pupils from non-scholastic influences.


SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 25 - Governor N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, chaired the 78th meeting of the University at the Raj Bhavan.Sh. Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Education, participated in the meeting.
Chancellor emphasized that the University must periodically review its academic and research programmes to assess their contemporary relevance and advised that the University must remain abreast by developing productive collaborative linkages with top academic and research institutions in the country and anywhere in the world.
Both Chancellor and Education Minister stressed the need for critically reviewing the current relevance of the ongoing academic programmes vis-à-vis the demands of the emerging job markets. Chancellor advised both the VCs to make the review process a continuous phenomenon so that the outdated courses are suitably modified or developed and new courses introduced to meet the emerging job opportunities. Governor particularly stressed the need for both the State Universities to involve third parties to undertake internal reviews so that known external experts can help to identify gaps in the extant curricular contents.
 Chancellor advised the VCs of both Universities to ensure round the year maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation within the University and to effectively generate among the students, staff and faculties a sensitive awareness to maintain cleanliness.
Earlier, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice-Chancellor, made a detailed presentation and highlighted the reforms undertaken in the past three years in the administrative, academic, financial, examination, evaluation and other sectors. Vice Chancellor also reported the status of student enrolment in the University, number of candidates who have qualified M.Phil/Ph.D and the number of students who have successfully qualified in various national-level competitive examinations; number of papers published in  peer reviewed journals and the impact factors achieved; new research projects secured and faculty development programmes undertaken.
University Council, inter-alia, approved: creation and constitution of University Research Council; adoption of guidelines for utilization of overhead charges received as extramural research project grants; reforms and interventions undertaken in the examination system of the University; conduct of Common Entrance Test for admission to BSc Nursing Course; and introduction of short-term courses in Media Education Research Centre.
 In the context of discussions on administrative decisions relating to the appointment of an ineligible candidate, Chancellor expressed serious concern about the violation of codal requirements.

In all thirty seven agenda items were discussed by the Council which was attended by Prof R. D. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu; Shri Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; Shri Navin Kumar Choudhary, Financial Advisor Universities;  Prof. Khursheed A. Butt, Registrar, University of Kashmir; Prof. Farooq A. Masoodi, Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Technology; Prof. Rifat Geelani, Principal, Govt. Degree College for Women, Nawakadal, Srinagar; and Dr. Muheet Ahmed Butt, President, Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA).


Srinagar, October 23: Prof. Gull Wani, Professor of Political Science, University of Kashmir, presented a copy ofSouth Asia-State, Society and Development to Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
 This volume, written by Prof. Wani, provides a wide ranging perspective on vital political, governance and developmental challenges in South Asia.

Governor complemented Prof. Wani, who has earlier served as Director of the Institute of Kashmir Studies, for bringing out a compendium which would make a valuable contribution towards a better understanding of the varied complex issues which face countries in South Asia.


Srinagar, Aug 14 :  All educational institutions were closed today as a precautionary measure while examinations have also been postponed in the Kashmir valley. The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Kashmir University (KU) besides Board of School Education (BOSE) have already announced postponing of all scheduled examinations today. District Magistrates (DM) of several districts, particularly in south and central Kashmir have also ordered suspension of class work in Government Degree Colleges (DGCs) and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS). However, the Director School Education (DSE) issued an order for closure of all educational institutions today as a precautionary measure keeping in view of the situation. Closure of educational institutions was ordered following the killing of two youths in fresh security force firing in south Kashmir last evening, where people were protesting against the death of three Hizbul Mujahideen(HM) militants, including a self styled operational commander in 18-hour-long operation. Two army personnel were also killed and three others, including an officer were injured in the encounter, which ended yesterday morning. UNI 


Srinagar, Aug 3 : Class work remained suspended in majority of the educational institutes in Kashmir valley, including four colleges and two Higher Secondary Schools (HSSs) in this summer capital today, as a precautionary measure. However, all Kashmir University (KU) examinations will be held as per schedule today. Class and other administrative work in lower and other educational institutions resumed today after remaining closed yesterday. As ordered by the District Magistrate (DM) Srinagar class work remained suspended in SP College, Amar Singh College, Gandhi College, Islamia College, SP Higher Secondary School (HSS) and MP HSS today. “The decision to suspended classes in these institutes has been taken to prevent any law and order problem,” officials said. According to the District Magistrate Anantnag, teaching activity remained suspended in all HSSs and Colleges of the district today. Officials said all schools and colleges also remained closed in south Kashmir districts of Shopian and Pulwama. District Magistrate, Kulgam, today ordered closure of all educational institutions following the death of two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in an encounter with security forces early this morning. “Class work also remained suspended in colleges in Ganderbal district, including Kangan, in central Kashmir and Bandipora and Baramulla in north Kashmir,” they added. All schools and colleges were closed yesterday in Kashmir valley, where separatists had called a general strike against the killing of two civilian in security force firing on demonstrators at Pulwama, where two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a wanted commander Abu Dujana were killed in an encounter on August 1. Students clashed with security forces across the valley following alleged thrashing of students, including girls, in Pulwama Degree college. Last year during the summer unrest, educational institutions remained closed for about six months. UNI




Srinagar, Aug 1:  The Kashmir University (KU) has postponed all the examinations scheduled to be held tomorrow, when a strike call has been given by separatists against the killing of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Chief Commander Abu Dujana in an encounter and a civilian in clashes in Pulwama.
      A KU official said all examinations scheduled for tomorrow have been postponed in the wake of concerns raised by students with regards to availability of transportation following a strike call tomorrow. “Fresh dates for the postponed examinations shall be notified separately, later,” he said.
      Meanwhile, all educational institutes, including colleges and colleges, will remain closed in Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure tomorrow in the wake clashes after the killings in Pulwama this morning.
      Both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) today urged people to observe a complete shutdown tomorrow against the killings.
      Following clashes, mobile internet services of all cellular companies were suspended across Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure.


Dujana, a resident of Pakistan, and a local militant Arif Lalhari were killed in an encounter in Pulwama, where a youth was killed while seven others were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators.UNI

  SRINAGAR, JULY 25:  Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, called on Governor N. N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan.
Governor advised Dr. Andrabi to critically examine the continuing relevance of some of the existing courses being offered by the University, and also follow up on the career paths of the pass outs to determine the need and nature of new courses.

The Governor stressed on the VC to ensure against any deviation from the norm which vitiates the academic environment of the Campus and results in eroding the teaching and research programmes. He re-iterated his concern about strict adherence to discipline and academic accountability and the need for teachers to remain closely connected with youth and guide to them effectively.
