Srinagar, May 16: Classes in the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) resumed on Wednesday after remaining suspended for a day as a precautionary measure in view of day-long protests by students on Monday.
All examinations will be conducted as per schedule on Wednesday, an official of the university said. However, the dates of examination which were postponed yesterday will be announced later, he added.
Students boycotted their classes and held massive protests within the campus at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Monday alleging that security forces and state police personnel stopped university buses and later arrested several students. However, the protesting students left for their homes when their classmates, arrested in the morning, were released on Monday.
Apprehending more trouble, the university authorities had suspended classes and postponed examinations on Tuesday. UNI

 Srinagar, May 15 :  The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has suspended class work and postponed all examinations which were scheduled to be held on Tuesday as a precautionary measure in view of day-long protests by students on Monday.
An official of the university said that all class work will remain suspended today as a precautionary measure.
All scheduled examinations have also been postponed and fresh date will be announced later, he said.

Students boycotted their classes and held massive protests within the campus at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama yesterday alleging that security forces and state police personnel stopped university buses and later arrested several students.
Raising slogans against these arrests, the students, including women, further alleged that an engineering student and his father were arrested by police during raid on Thursday. Demanding release of all arrested students, the students clashed with the security forces who entered the campus and burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge.
However, the students, including women, refused to leave the campus despite assurance by the university authorities that they will take up the matter with administration. We were protesting within the campus till late in the evening, students said.
It was only when the students, arrested when they were on way to university in the morning, were released we agreed to leave for our homes, the women students said adding later university buses were pressed into service to take us home. The released students alleged that they were tortured in the police stations.
Apprehending more trouble today, the university authorities suspended class work and postponed examinations.UNI

Srinagar, Apr 19: The Kashmir University (KU) and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have postponed all examinations, scheduled to be held on Thursday in view of the protests in educational institutions.
A spokesman for the IUST said class work and all scheduled examinations have been suspended. However, no reason was given for postponing examinations. Protests erupted at the campus on Wednesday when students boycotted their classes and hit the streets in protest against the Kathua rape and murder case. 
He said fresh dates for the examination will be announced later.
Similarly, the KU, where protests were witnessed yesterday, also postponed all examinations which were scheduled to be held today.
Class work in the university has also been suspended as a precautionary measure. UNI

Srinagar, Apr 18: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse students of Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, who boycotted their classes and protested against the rape and murder of eight-year-old girl at Kathua in January this year.
Meanwhile, class work in a number of Government Degree Colleges (GDCs) and High Secondary Schools (HSSs) remained suspended as a precautionary measure to avoid any law and order problem.
Students of the IUST, Awantipora, in Pulwama district boycotted their classes and protested within the campus on Wednesday. However, when the students, including girls, started marching towards the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, security forces and police personnel immediately swung into action and stopped them from moving ahead. However, students, raising slogans and demanding death penalty to those responsible for the inhuman act, security forces resorted to lathicharge which had no impact on the students who pelted stones. Later security forces burst teargas shells to disperse the demonstrators at the campus.
The University authorities suspended the class work and directed students to return home. The situation was now very tense but under control, official sources said.
Meanwhile, class work remained suspended in Amar Singh College (ASC), Srinagar, GDC and HSS Kangan in Ganderbal and GDC and HSS boys in Sopore in Baramulla district as precautionary measure to prevent any law and order problem. UNI

Srinagar, Apr 4: All schools, colleges and universities remained closed as a precautionary measure for the third day on Wednesday in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for “ Shopian Challo” to express solidarity with the families of those killed in Sunday violence.
Four civilians were killed in south Kashmir and another in Ganderbal in central valley and over 40 others injured in security force action on demonstrators who hit the streets after the killing of 13 militants, including top commanders, in three different encounters on Sunday. Three soldiers were also martyred and several others injured in encounters on Sunday in south Kashmir.
“All schools and colleges will remain closed today also as a precautionary measure to avoid any law and order problem in Kashmir valley,” the officials said.
The Kashmir University (KU), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) and Central University of Kashmir (CUK) have also suspended all class work and postponed all examinations and interviews which scheduled from Monday.
The KU further said that all examinations of the university, which were scheduled to be held today, have also been postponed and new dates will be announced later.
Announcing the decision to postpone all examinations which were scheduled to be held from Monday till today.
Class work in all Degree colleges in the valley also remained suspended. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 17: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Saturday postponed all scheduled examinations as a precautionary measure following killing of two militants in an encounter with security forces in outskirts of the Srinagar city in the wee hours on Friday
An official of the university said that all examinations, which were scheduled to be held today, in the university campus at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama have been postponed. The university had postponed all examinations on Friday also.
He said the new date for the postponed examinations will be announced later. The IUST has so far postponed about half a dozen papers due to unrest in south Kashmir during the past two weeks. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 10: Except south Kashmir, educational institutions reopened on Saturday in the Valley, where authorities have ordered closure of schools, colleges and universities as a precautionary measure following separatist strike call on Monday.
The strike was called to protest against death of four civilians and killing of two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in an encounter by security forces in Shopian on Sunday night.
The Kashmir University (KU) and Jammu and Kashmir School Board of Education (BOSE) will also conduct scheduled examinations from today while the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) started scheduled examinations from Friday.
Though High and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) reopened on February 27, the lower class up to middle schools were to reopen after winter vacation on March 5, when the separatist called for strike.
However, all educational institutions will remain closed as a precautionary measure in south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian as a precautionary measure. Now, educational institutions will reopen in south from Monday.
Meanwhile, according to Secretary, Education Farooq Ahmad Shah, the government would release Rs 1 crore to each District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET) to strengthen their basic infrastructure and make them fully functional in the state.
Students in colourful school uniform, holding bags and water bottles in their hands were seen marching towards their respective institutions in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where schools reopened on Saturday after winter vacation. In fact, the schools up to middle classes were to reopen on March 5 in the Kashmir valley. However, as a precautionary measure authorities ordered closure of all educational institutions after Shopian killings and strike called by separatists. Today will be observed as “welcome day” for students in their schools and there will be no other activities.
High and HSS also reopened today after remaining closed since Monday. Similarly examination and other activities also resumed in universities in the valley.
Meanwhile, Mr Shah has directed all the Chief Education Officers (CEO) of Kashmir Division to keep three days for the inspection of the schools and maintain close contact with all the Heads of the Institutions.
An official spokesman said that Director, School Education, Kashmir GN Itoo, along with other officers and the Heads of Institutions of schools of Srinagar, briefed the Secretary about the overall education scenario of the Valley. The Director assured that biometric attendance system would be installed in all the Higher Secondary Schools of the Kashmir Division at the earliest. 
He said the Secretary also reviewed the functioning of Education Department in Leh and Kargil and other far-flung areas like Keran, Machil, Tangdhar, Wadwan, Dachan, Paddar, Gurez, Tulail and other areas. He directed concerned CEOs to take necessary steps to provide all the educational facilities in these areas by taking the help of the civil administration.
He further said that strict action would be initiated against the teachers found working in private tuition centers during working hours. There should be no negligence in payment of salaries to the teachers, he added. The Secretary also reviewed the construction works going on under RMSA, SSA and other schemes. He directed Chief Education Officer, Kulgam to personally monitor the construction works of schools in the district. UNI

Srinagar, Mar 5: All educational institutions remained closed on Monday in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike in protest against the killing of a Lashkher-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and four others in an encounter at Shopian on Sunday evening.
The Kashmir University (KU), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) have also postponed all examinations scheduled to be held today.
It was a very disappointed day for the students upto middle class who were to attend their school for the first time after winter vacations. However, the high and higher secondary schools reopened last week after winter vacation in the valley.
As the authorities have imposed restriction under Section 144 CrPC in the down town, Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) and parts of Kralkhud and Maisuma in Srinagar following strike called by separatists, the educational institutions were closed in the valley. However, many parents accompanying their children were disappointed after they were informed that schools will remain closed today also for security reasons.
We were preparing for first day of schooling of our children for the past one week after winter vacation, said a parent at Natipora adding students were also disappointed after informed about the new development.
All middle schools were closed in the first week of January for winter vacation. High and Higher Secondary institutions were closed in the second week of January.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik have called for a general strike today against the Shopian incident where a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant and four others were killed in an encounter with Army at Pahnoo, Shopian, Sunday night.
The KU and IUST have also postponed all examinations today. They said the next date of hearing will be announced separately later. There were also protests in the KU last night after hearing about the Shopian incident. UNI

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 25: Member Parliament, Nazir Ahmad Laway today announced Rs 10 lakh from his Member Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora for development of infrastructure at the School of Business Studies in memory of late Ratandeep Kour, a student of the varsity who was killed in a grenade blast at Tral last Thursday.
The announcement was made by Laway during his meeting with Minister for Works, Naeem Akhtar here today.

He said the IUST authorities will be asked to develop infrastructure at the varsity's SBS in memory of late Ratandeep alias Pinky who fell victim to the grenade blast in Tral.

Srinagar, Aug 14 :  All educational institutions were closed today as a precautionary measure while examinations have also been postponed in the Kashmir valley. The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Kashmir University (KU) besides Board of School Education (BOSE) have already announced postponing of all scheduled examinations today. District Magistrates (DM) of several districts, particularly in south and central Kashmir have also ordered suspension of class work in Government Degree Colleges (DGCs) and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS). However, the Director School Education (DSE) issued an order for closure of all educational institutions today as a precautionary measure keeping in view of the situation. Closure of educational institutions was ordered following the killing of two youths in fresh security force firing in south Kashmir last evening, where people were protesting against the death of three Hizbul Mujahideen(HM) militants, including a self styled operational commander in 18-hour-long operation. Two army personnel were also killed and three others, including an officer were injured in the encounter, which ended yesterday morning. UNI
