Nagpur, Jun 23 :   A fire broke out Sunday evening in the BJP office at Ganeshpeth area in Nagpur when a function was underway, a party functionary said, adding that all present managed to move out safely.

BJP spokesperson Chandan Goswami said a switch board on the fifth floor of Mangalam Tower, where the function was being held, caught fire at around 5:30pm, possibly due to a short-circuit, and the blaze cut power supply, plunging the hall into darkness.

"(Nagpur West) MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh was addressing the gathering when the fire started. MLAs, officer-bearers, workers and journalists assembled at the hall managed to move out safely. Fire extinguishers in the hall were used to doused the blaze," he said.

The programme, to mark the appointment of former Nagpur mayor Pravin Datke as city BJP chief, was completed in a hall on the ground floor later, Goswami said.         [Agencies]

Nagpur (Maha), Oct 2: Taking inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts and vision and walking on the path shown by him is a real tribute to him, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Tuesday.

On the 149th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Fadnavis called upon people to make the Clean India Mission a success as the issue of cleanliness was very close to Mahatma Gandhi's heart.

The chief minister paid tributes to him on the occasion and also took part in a padyatra here in Maharashtra.

"Shat shat namanto Mahatma Gandhiji on his birth anniversary today as we are entering Bapu's 150th birth anniversary, let us strive to work hard to dedicate a Swachh Bharat to himthis year," Fadnavis said in a tweet.

"From clean mind to clean nation...taking inspiration from Bapu's thoughts and vision and walking on the path shown by him is a real tribute to him," he said in another tweet.

The padyatra led by Fadnavis passed through many city roads decorated with colourful 'rangolis'.

Today is also the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Fadnavis paid tributes to him and recalled his slogan dedicated to members of Indian armed forces and farmers.

'JaiJawanJaiKisan! Our salutations to a great son of Bharat Mata, known for his simplicity and great leadership, our former PM Lal Bahadur Shastriji, on his birth anniversary," he tweeted.

State Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar visited the Bapu Kutir at Mahatma Gandhi's Sevagram Ashram in the neighbouring Wardha district and paid tributes to him. (PTI)

Nagpur (Maha), Sep 20: State-run power utility MSEDCL plans to set up 500 electric vehicle charging stations across Maharashtra to encourage use of green energy by automobiles, an official said Thursday.

In the first phase of the project, 50 such stations will soon come up in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel (four each) Thane (six), Pune, Nagpur (10 each) and Mumbai-Pune Expressway (12), the Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) said in a release.

The plan is to set up a total of 500 charging stations at key locations in the state in the next three to four years for those travelling by electric cars, bikes or scooters, a spokesperson of the MSEDCL said.

The e-tendering process for the project is in the last phase and the work order will be given within a week, the release said.

Each electric vehicle charging station will be set up at a cost of around Rs 2.5 lakh, it said.

The MSEDCL plans to set up these charging points at its free/empty substation spaces.

A vehicle would be charged completely in about 45 minutes to one hour at these points, the release said, adding that the tariff has been fixed at Rs 6 per unit. (PTI)

Nagpur, Jul 30: Apparently facing probem in repaying loan, a 35-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide in Buldhana district of Maharashtra, a senior police official said today.

Gajanan Jaybhaye, a resident of Saukhedtejan village, left his home on Saturday night and went to his farm. He subsequently consumed poison and set himself ablaze after building his own pyre with woods and animal fodder kept in the farm, he said.

The incident came to light yesterday morning, the official said.

The Buldhana police have registered a case of accidental death on a complaint filed by the father of the deceased.

The official, quoting Jaybhaye's family, said the farmer was facing some loan repayment-relatedproblem.

Nagpur, Jul 18: Over 27,000 milk producers have benefited from a dairy development programme initiated to provide financial stability to farmers in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra, an official said.

The project, launched by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) last year, covers 3,023 villages spread across 11 districts falling under the two backward regions.

As many as 27,326 milk producers have got Rs 168.43 crore directly into their bank accounts till May this year as part of the programme, the government official told.

The project's objective is to provide financial stability to farmers, generate self-employment in the dairy sector and boost milk production through scientific breeding activities, like increasing the number of milch animals by improving their feeding and health care facilities, he said.

"A sum of Rs 6.5 crore is being deposited directly into the accounts of milk producers every 10 days," he said.

The districts of Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Chandrapur, Buldhana, Akola and Yavatmal in Vidarbha and Nanded, Osmanabad, Latur and Jalna in Marathwada are covered under the project, he said.

About 2,09,913 litres of milk is collected every day from the two regions, including 70,017 litres from Marathwada, the official said.

As part of the project, the NDDB's Mother Dairy brand has opened milk distribution outlets at 32 places in Nagpur city. These outlets will be run by retired defence personnel, he said.

Commissioned in 1974 and established under the initiative of 'Operation Flood', Mother Dairy is a wholly- owned subsidiary of the NDDB. (PTI)

Nagpur, Jul 13: Despite Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' assurance in the Legislative Assembly that the Nanar project won't be forced on people, opposition Congress-NCP and ally Shiv Sena stalled the proceedings of the House on the issue for the third consecutive day.

The House witnessed three adjournments- twice for 15 minutes and once for ten minutes- before it was adjourned for the day as members of the opposition and Shiv Sena trooped into the well of the House shouting slogans seeking withdrawal of the land acquisition notification and scrapping of the project.

After the Question Hour, Fadnavis told the House that the West Coast Refinery was in the country's interest and the state government will take everyone on board before going ahead with the project at Nanar in Ratnagiri district.

Making a statement in the Lower House on the issue which rocked the legislature proceedings for the last two days, Fadnavis said, "The West Coast Refinery is important for our own oil security and export, for which we have signed MoUs with the Middle East countries."

"Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh were eyeing the project. But Andhra was ruled out since the route was not proper. Maharashtra was given priority. The total investment is worth Rs 3 lakh crore," he said.

He added that Gujarat's economy has got a boost due to the Jamnagar refinery. "There is no adverse impact on horticulture and environment," Fadnavis said.

The West Coast Refinery is a green refinery with fourth generation technology. It will have the highest emission standards. A green belt will be developed around he project, he added.

He told the House that the refinery is being modelled on the lines of the one in Singapore.

Fadnavis said 32(1) notification for land acquisition was issued but along with consent for land acquisition, there was opposition to it as well.

"Industries Minister Subhash Desai announced withdrawal of the notification and the file has come to me. I haven't taken any decision on it. Wherever there is opposition, we are holding talks to resolve the concerns. The project will not be forced on the people," he said.

Fadnavis said the environment and social impact analysis would be carried out by National Environmental Engineering Research Institute(NEERI) and IIT Bombay.

"Talks are on to resolve differences," he said.

However, the opposition parties and the Shiv Sena were not satisfied with the reply.

Leader of OppositionRadhakrishna Vikhe Patil demanded that Fadnavis announces scrapping of the project.

Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said Fadnavis should explain to the people how the project was in the interest of the state.

"Saudi Aramco hires Pakistani engineers. Shall we allow Pakistani nationals into the country. Marine Academy and International Finance Centre have been shifted from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Why is the refinery brought here?" he asked.

NCP MLA Jayant Patil sought Fadnavis's reply on whether the project will stay in Maharashtra or not.

"It is not possible to reply in yes or no. We will resolve the differences through talks," he said.

"Shiv Sena opposed the Mumbai-Nagpur corridor, but after we explained the importance of the project, they are supporting it. We will arrive at a consensus, address all concerns and then only move forward, "he said.

Shiv Sena's Sunil Prabhu said his party's opposition to the project will continue, and demanded that the project be scrapped.

He said a nuclear power project as well as a refinery project in Konkan is bad for the region's horticulture and fishing industry.

Fadnavis said he had not given a presentation on the project to Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. "I thought showing the presentation to Industries minister Subhash Desai would be enough," he said when asked by Patil if he had shown the presentation to Thackeray.

The Sena members rushed to the Well demanding that the chief minister announces scrapping of the project. They were joined by the Congress and NCP members.

Thereafter, the House was adjourned for 15 minutes by Speaker Haribhau Bagde.

Later, after the introduction of bills, the House was again adjourned for 15 minutes by presiding officer Sudhakar Deshmukh.

After the business resumed later, Jayant Patil said the government was in a minority on the Nanar refinery issue and should not make the issue a matter of prestige. He demanded that the project be scrapped.

Prabhu said the 32 (1) notification regarding the withdrawal of the land acquisition notification was approved by the chief minister.

Thereafter, House was adjourned for the third time for ten minutes.

After the proceedings resumed, the Gram Panchayats Amendment Bill was introduced for the passage amid din.

Jayant Patil said there was a contradiction in the Sena's stand as its members were opposing the government, but party minister Sanjay Rathod was moving the bill. The bill was approved by a voice vote and the House was adjourned for the day. (PTI)

Nagpur, Jul 10: The Maharashtra government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, especially in Palghar district, following heavy rains, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said today.

Palghar district has received unprecedented rainfall, he said in the Legislative Assembly here.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Navy are on standby. The state disaster management cell is conducting operations on the ground, Fadnavis informed the House.

The Palghar district administration is on alert and arrangements are being made to help the affected people, he said.

The chief minister said in Mumbai, waterlogging has been reported from 11 places and traffic diverted in three areas.

Due to waterlogging in the Vasai-Virar area, the suburban western railway line has been affected, Fadnavis said.

Currently, there is a high tide (off the coast of Mumbai), he said, adding that suction pumps are functioning at full capacity.

The chief minister said an additional 150 pumps have been deployed to drain out rain water from flooded areas.

"The state administration is monitoring the situation and keeping a close watch to ensure people do not face any hardship," Fadnavis said.

He said if necessary, a holiday will be declared for schools as the weather department has predicted very heavy rains for the next three to four days.

"If necessary, the government will take an appropriate decision," Fadnavis said.

For students who could not reach colleges for admission due to rains, the time limit for the process will be extended, he said.

As soon as the House assembled for the day's proceedings, Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil sought to know what steps the government was taking to ease hardships of people in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas.

He said about 300 mm rainfall was recorded in Mumbai.

The metropolis and its adjoining areas are being pounded by heavy rains for the last two days.

In Palghar district, 400 people were stranded and communication to 40 villages was cut off. Defence helicopters also could not take-off for relief and rescue work due to the inclement weather, Patil said.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar urged the chief minister to direct the Mumbai suburban and city guardian ministers to go back and supervise operations of the disaster management cell.

He said as the chief minister is in Nagpur, the local administration has been alert and vigilant.

Nagpur, Jul 10: Nearly 400 acres of land at MIHAN has been reserved for the aviation sector and some European companies have evinced interest in setting up their facilities there, an MADC official said.

At least two to three European aviation entities are keen on establishing their facilities in MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) and are scouting for Indian partners, Maharashtra Airport Development Company's adviser (tech) S V Chahande told.

A facility of the Dassault-Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL) has come up in an area of 104 acres and the assembling of Falcon 2000 passenger planes and parts of Rafale jet has commenced, he said.

Around 400 acres of land in MIHAN has been reserved for the aviation sector, the MADC official said.

DRAL has been allocated 239 acres of land in MIHAN, he said.

Besides, US aircraft maker Boeing along with Air India has already set up a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility with an investment of Rs 800 crore in MIHAN, where the fleet of the national carrier and some aircraft of private airline SpiceJet are being maintained, Chahande said.

DRAL is a joint venture between Dassault Aviation and Anil Ambani-led Reliance.

MADC is the nodal agency for setting up of MIHAN.

As many as 74 companies have invested in the special economic zone and 28 in the non-SEZ area of MIHAN, MADC's marketing manager SameerGokhale said, adding that most of the firms are from the Information Technology and aviation sectors.

"Out of these, 30 to 32 companies in the SEZarea have begun operations and are providing direct employment to 11,500 people," he said. (PTI)

Nagpur, Jul 9: The Maharashtra government has ordered an inquiry into the flooding of the state Legislature complex here after heavy rains last week.

The inquiry would ascertain loopholes in arrangements for the monsoon session and if problems were deliberately left unattended, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the Legislative Assembly here today.

The people affected due to heavy rains in the city would also be compensated, he said.

The city is hosting the monsoon session of the state Legislature but on Friday both the Assembly and the Council were adjourned for the day, shortly after convening, due to a power blackout caused by rains.

The power supply had been turned off after the switching centre that provides electricity to the Assembly complex was flooded following heavy rains in the second capital of Maharashtra.

Fadnavis said the Legislature building's power supply was turned off on Friday to prevent short-circuit.

"Normally heavy rain in Nagpur is around 150 mm. But on Friday, the city received 282 mm rainfall and between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm 264 mm rainfall was recorded," he noted.

The city had received a record 300 mm rainfall in a day in 1994, he said, adding that drains were designed with a capacity of 125 mm.

"The water-logging occurred due to the ongoing construction works. Disaster management was activated. The police helped people affected by heavy rains (on July 6)," he said.

"An inquiry will be done to find out whether there was a deliberate attempt not to fix loopholes, if any, and whether steps were taken to prevent flooding in the Vidhan Bhawan premises," he said.

Earlier, as soon as the House assembled for the day's proceedings and Speaker Haribhau Bagade called for the Question Hour, Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said taxpayers' money was wasted since the day's proceedings got washed out on July 6.

The chief minister should apologise to the people of Nagpur, Vikhe Patil said.

"Who will take responsibility for the day's washout of proceedings. There are no adequate preparations as the session is being held in Nagpur during monsoon after 47 years...drains are choked. Responsibilities should be fixed and proper action should be taken," he said.

The LoP also said heavy rains lashed Mumbai since early this morning and the megapolis came to a "standstill".

"There is no disaster management in place," he said.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar sought to know at whose insistence the session was being held in Nagpur during rains.

The state's capital city and the second capital get water-logged during rains, he pointed out and asked, "who is responsible for the waste of taxpayers' money?"

Later, Fadnavis said in Mumbai the draining of water becomes difficult when there is a high tide during heavy rain.

"But now pumps have been activated to drain out the rain water," he said. (PTI)

New Delhi, Jul 7 :  The Railways has dispatched its first state-of-the-art air-conditioned commuter train to Nagpur after Union minister Nitin Gadkari had mooted a proposal to bring them to his constituency, officials said.

Rolled out on June 29 by the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, the stainless steel-bodied mainline electrical multiple unit (MEMU) features 3-phase on-board electrics and modular toilets in every coach.

As many as 139 people can sit in each coach, while the 'standing capacity' is 412. This MEMU train can carry upto 2,402 passengers.

In April, the road transport & highways minister had said that the Regional Rapid Transit System with the modern MEMU would replace the existing passenger trains in Nagpur.

In an inter-ministerial meeting, he had proposed introducing such trains on the broad gauge lines connecting Nagpur with the satellite towns of Kotal, Bhandara, Ramtek and Wardha -- all within a distance of 40-60 km.

The train, with the maximum speed of 110 km per hour, will run on Nagpur's suburban train system catering to the needs of medium distance inter-city passengers, officials said.

With low maintenance requirements and a suspension monitoring system, the train will also ensure jerk-free journey for those on-board.

"The traction system is energy efficient and provides improved acceleration and braking performance and therefore, are faster compared to the conventional locomotive hauled passenger train services," an official said.

The train has stainless steel slip-free flooring for durable and safe travel, bench-type cushioned seats for comfortable journey, and wider vestibules between coaches for safe and easy inter-coach travel.

It will also feature lightweight aluminium double leaf sliding doors for easy entry and exit of passengers, and bogies with air spring in secondary suspension for better ride comfort cushioned seats.

It also has CCTV facility for enhanced passenger safety, GPS-based Passenger Information System and Passenger Address System for train-related information and FRP interior panels to give a pleasing aesthetic view, in all coaches.PTI

Nagpur, Jul 6 :  The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was adjourned for an hour as electricity supply had to be turned off after the switching centre that provides power to Vidhan Bhavan premises was flooded following rains in the city.

The citty witnessed heavy rains from last night, which resulted in water logging at several places. Since the switching centre which supplies power to Vidhan Bhavan was flooded, the power supply had to be shut down for safety purposes.

As soon as the House assembled for the day at 10 am, Speaker Haribhau Bagde announced that power had to be turned off due to closure of the switching centre. It was adjourned till 11 am.

Shiv Sena, an ally of the ruling BJP, was quick to criticise the government.

"Had this happened in Mumbai, there would have been a barrage of criticism against the Sena-run Mumbai civic body.

Everybody would have demanded an inquiry against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)," Shiv Sena group leader in the house, Sunil Prabhu, told reporters.

"Nagpur is the second capital of the state and an important city. Nagpur Municipal Corporation is run by the BJP. It should have provided basic infrastructure to ensure rains don't obstruct the proceedings of the legislature session," he added.

Prabhu said the area whereall ministerial bungalows and residential quarters of legislators are located is also flooded.

NCP MLA and former minister Bhaskar Jadhav said, "This government is fully exposed. It decided that the monsoon session will be held in Nagpur. Shouldn't it make all the arrangements to put the disaster management systems in place."

Energy Minister Chandrashekar Bawankule said it was for the first time that rains had affected the legislature proceedings in such a manner. "This happened because maybe the drainage was not cleaned," he said.

"The switching centre had to be closed to avoid any technical problem which would have led to hazardous situation.

Water level is receding and we hope the situation will be normalised," he said.

The minister said there was power supply in the rest of the city.

"We were not sure if generators can take the entire load of Vidhan Bhavan premises," he said.PTI

Nagpur, Jul 5: The Maharashtra Legislative Council witnessed noisy protests today by the NCP members over the issue of compensation to farmers for pest attack on crops following which the House was adjourned for the day.

As soon as Council Chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar called for the Question Hour, Leader of Opposition Dhananjay Munde (NCP) demanded a discussion on compensation to cotton farmers who had faced losses due to the 'pink bollworm' (a pest) attack on their crops.

The chairman said the discussion would be taken up after the Question Hour.

However, Munde termed it as a "serious and important issue" and demanded that it be taken up on priority.

The NCP members started raising slogans against the BJP-led state government and trooped into the well of the House.

The chairman then adjourned the House for 30 minutes.

Later, when the House reassembled, Munde again demanded an urgent discussion on the issue.

The NCP legislators, led by Munde, continued to raise slogans against the state government and stalled the House proceedings.

The Chair then again adjourned the House for half-an-hour.

When the House proceedings resumed after the second adjournment, the NCP members continued with their noisy protests over the demand for a discussion on compensation to cotton farmers.

Amid the din, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. (PTI)

Nagpur, Jul 4: The Maharashtra Legislative Council was adjourned on the first day of the monsoon session today after paying tributes to former agriculture minister Pandurang Fundkar who died recently.

Fundkar, the senior BJP leader, died on May 31 after suffering from cardiac arrest.

As the Council's proceedings began for the day, Leader of the House Chandrakant Patil said Fundkar's death was a huge loss for the party.

Leader of Opposition Dhananjay Munde said his death was a loss for farmers in the state.

"Fundkar had always fought for the rights of farmers and worked for them," he noted.

MLCs Neelam Gorhe andDiwakar Raote (Shiv Sena), Manikrao Thakre (Congress) and several other legislators also recalled the works of the late BJP leader.

Earlier, NCP legislator Prakash Gajbhiye came to the House dressed like right-wing activist Sambhaji Bhide and brought a basket mangoes with him.

Gajbhiye alleged that the government was shielding Bhide in the Bhima-Koregaon violence case and demanded that the activist be arrested immediately.

Bhide had recently claimed that childless couples were blessed with children after eating mangoes from his farm.

Later, the Nashik Municipal Corporation had sent a show cause notice to Bhide, asking him to prove his claim that the fruit from his mango orchards helped these couples in having a male child.

Bhide, who heads the Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan, is an accused in the January 1 Bhima-Koregaon caste violence case. (PTI)

Nagpur, June 18, : There were "election banners" and a "ballot box" too, and when all the votes were counted, a couple in Maharashtra got the name for their baby boy.

Mithun and Mansi Bang of Gondiya district used this novel way to decide the name for their baby boy, born on April 5, by holding an "election" on June 15 with family members, friends and relatives as voters.

Three names were suggested by family members and relatives and the Bangs decided to use a "ballot paper" containing these names.

Incidentally, among those present at the event was former MP Nana Patole, whose resignation from Lok Sabha necessitated a bypoll in Gondiya on May 28.

The "election" was conducted using the banner of "Balak Naam Chayan Aayog", whose logo bore an uncanny resemblance to that of the Election Commission of India.

The Bang couple, from Deori taluka in Gondiya district, was in a fix over naming the child as three names were suggested by members in their joint family.

Mithun Bang, 34, a garment businessman, told PTI that of the suggested names Yaksh, Yuvan and Yauwik, one name had to be finalised.

"Friends and relatives were taken into confidence for finalising the name through the "ballot box" and we invited Patole, along with the local BJP MLA and a former MLA for the event," Bang said.

On June 15, the "voters" were invited and the "ballot paper" contained the three names. Of the 192 votes polled, the name Yuvan got the maximum 92 votes, after which the baby was named Yuvan.

Bang said when his first offspring, a girl, was born five years ago, she was named Bhumi. Asked if a similar "polling" was conducted then, he said, "there was a death in the family and we did not conduct any ceremony.PTI

Nagpur, Jun 7 :  Former President and Congress veteran Pranab Mukherjee today warned that any attempt to define India through "religion, dogma or intolerance" will only dilute the country's existence, as he attended an RSS event amid criticism by several of his party leaders including his own daughter.

Mukherjee said intolerance will only dilute India' national identity and Indian nationalism emanated from universalism, assimilation and co-existence.

"In India, we derive our strength from tolerance, and respect our pluralism. We celebrate our diversity," he said.

"I am here to share my understanding on nation, nationalism and patriotism about our country which is 'Bharat'," said Mukherjee, who served as President of India between 2012 and 2017.

"We must free our public discourse from all kinds of fear and violence" he said.

Before the former president spoke, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said the debate over Mukherjee's decision to attend the RSS event was "meaningless" and no one is an outsider for his organisation.

While the Sangh is often described as a Hindu right-wing organisation, it calls itself a nationalist and cultural organisation rather than a political or religious one. It was founded by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar , on September 27, 1925 on Vijayadashami day at his house here. 

Mukherjee's decision to attent the RSS event has already triggered a major political slugfest with several Congress leaders criticising his decision.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel today expressed his disapproval at former president Pranab Mukherjee visiting the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and said he did not expect this from him.

Mukherjee's daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha had yesterday said her father was giving the BJP and the Sangh a handle to plant false stories with his decision to speak at the RSS event.

Speaking ahead of Mukherjee's speech, Bhagwat said Mukherjee will remain what he is and the Sangh will remain the Sangh even after the event.

Bhagwat said his organisation wants to unify the entire society and no one was an outsider for it.

People may have different views but they are all children of mother India, he said. 

Bhagwat said the Sangh has inviting prominent people to its event every year. 

Those present at today's event also included former prime minister Lal Bahadu Shastri's son Sunil Shastri, as also Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's nephew Ardhendu Bose along with his wife and son.

Earlier in the day, Mukherjee described Hedgewar as a "great son of Mother India' as he visited the birthplace of the RSS founding Sarsanghachalak.

"Today I came here to pay my respect and homage to a great son of Mother India," Mukherjee wrote in a visitor's book at Hedgewar's birthplace ahead of his much-anticipated speech at the RSS headquarters here.PTI

Nagpur, May 11: A 45-year-old man killed his three children before consuming poison within jurisdiction of Borgaon Manju police station at village Dhotardi, in Maharashtra’s Akola district, police said here on Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when Vishnu Ingle killed his three children by giving them poison.
The deceased were identified as Ajay(16), Manoj(12) and Shivani(14). Their mother had died a year ago.
Later,Vishnu himself consumed poison and tried to end his life, but survived.
He was admitted to the local government hospital where he is battling for his life, police said.
However, the reason behind taking such an extreme step could not be established yet, police said.

Nagpur, Apr 19: Archbishop of Nagpur diocese of the Catholic church, AbrahamViruthakulangara, passed away on Thursday morning after a major cardiac arrest.
The 74-year-old, who had worked among Gond tribals, died in his sleep at the headquarters of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India in New Delhi.
He was in New Delhi for the meeting of all the Hindi speaking Bishops at the CBCI centre.
The funeral will take place in Nagpur on April 23 at 1530 hours.
Born in Kerala on June 5, 1943, he joined the Seminary in Indore in 1960 after high school studies. Viruthakulangara was ordained a priest in 1969 after his studies at St Charles Seminary, Nagpur. He later worked among Gond tribals for eight years. Observing his simplicity and missionary zeal, the Pope chose him to head the new and predominantly tribal diocese of Khandwa.
When appointed in 1977 as bishop of the newly created Diocese of Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh, Viruthakulangara was just 34 and the youngest prelate in India. He also became the 100th Catholic Bishop since the establishment in 1886 of the Indian hierarchy.
During his two-decade-long service in Khandwa,he helped the local Christians to bond with their Hindu and Muslim neighbours. During one of her visits to Khandwa, St Mother Teresa commended the young
and dynamic prelate for his proficiency in language that helped him reach out to thousands and transform
their lives.
After serving in Khandwa for 21 years, he was promoted in 1998 as the metropolitan Archbishop of Nagpur. Viruthakulangara began his mission in Nagpur Archdiocese with the motto ' Radiating Christ's Light.'
Nagpur Archdiocese saw dramatic changes in its service to local people during his tenure. In the past 40 years as a bishop and Archbishop, Viruthakulangara also served in 1986 as the first chairman of the youth commission of the CBCI. From 1998 to 2004, he was the chairman of the Western Region Bishops ' council (comprising Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat).
He was a member of the governing board of St. John's Academy of Health Science (Medical college and Hospital), Bengaluru, and the Ecclesiastical adviser of Jesus Youth (International Organisation
for youth).
In all these posts, he proved to be an effective leader, inspirer, educationist, visionary and above all, a man of God. UNI

Nagpur, Apr 6: Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission will organise a public hearing here on April 11 to know the Maratha community's educational and economic backwardness status.
The public hearing will be held before Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission Chairman Justice (retired ) M G Gaikwad, at Ravi Bhavan from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs.
During the hearing, the information regarding Maratha community’s social, educational, economic backwardness will be gathered in form of memorandums submitted by persons, organisations and social bodies.
Along with Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission Chairman,others expert members will be Dr Sarjerao Nimse, Secretary D D Deshmukh, Prof Chandrashekhar Deshpande, Dr Dattatraya Balsaraf, Pramod Yewale, Rohidas Jadhav, Sudhir Thakare, Dr Suvarna Rawal,Prof Raja Karpe, Dr Bhushan V Kardile.

Nagpur, Mar 14: Thousands of Aadhaar cards were recovered from a well here at Yavatmal area during a cleaning operation.
According to sources, a group of youngsters who had volunteered to desilt wells to allow their use as water sources in view of the extreme scarcity of drinking water, found thousands of original Aadhaar cards dumped in the well. The cards were packed in nylon gunny bags and weighed down with rocks. 
Sources also claimed that the Aadhaar cards belonged to residents of Lohara village on the city’s outskirts. 
Though the cards were partially damaged, the details on many of them were readable.
Following, a complaint was lodged with the district collector, who ordered a probe to find where the cards were in the custody of revenue department staffers or the Indian Postal Service sources said and further investigation is on. UNI

Nagpur, Jan 10: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet against twelve persons including five officials in Gosikhurd Irrigation Project corruption case.
The hearing will take place in ACB’s special court on Thursday in front of Additonal Session Judge A C Raut. 
ACB team in its departments special court filed a 4,500 page chargesheet on Tuesday.
There were lot of alleged 'irregularities' found by ACB during the investigation in the tenders floated for Mokhaburdi Lift Irrigation scheme under Gosikhurd Project.
In the chargsheet, it has been mentioned that the people involved were hand in glove in this graft.
