New Delhi, Jul 7 :  BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav today rejected reports that his party was working to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir with rebel PDP MLAs and said that it was for continuing with Governor's rule in the state in the interest of peace, governance and development.

His comments on Twitter came after former state chief minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah tweeted a news report that claimed that a "big chunk of PDP MLAs are in touch with the BJP high command" and the saffron party was looking to form government.

"Contrary to Ram Madhav's assertions, the state unit of the BJP confesses to being party to the efforts to break the PDP . Power at any cost would seem to be the guiding philosophy," Abdullah said, tagging the BJP leader in his tweet.

Madhav, the BJP's pointsman for the state, replied: "Not true. I will certainly check with the state unit and ensure that BJP keeps itself scrupulously out of whatever is happening in other parties in the Valley.

"We are for continuing with the Governor's rule in the interest of peace, governance and development in the state," he said.

The BJP had last month pulled out of the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the state under Governor's rule.PTI

Srinagar, Jun 23 : National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah today said the NDA government's claim that more militants were killed in Kashmir during its rule than in the UPA dispensation actually tells how it allowed militancy and violence to re-emerge in the Valley.
Actually minister sahib this tells the story of how your government allowed militancy & violence to re-emerge in J&K forcing the security forces to kill more terrorists, Omar wrote on Twitter.
The former J&K chief minister was reacting to Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad's tweet and statement that more militants were killed under the NDA government than in the UPA rule.
Prasad said security forces had killed 72 and 67 militants in 2012 and 2013 under the UPA and the figure rose to 110 in 2014 when the BJP-led NDA came to power at the Centre.
He said the forces killed 108 militants in 2015, 150 in 2016, 217 in 2017 and 75 till May this year.
Omar said the increase in the number of militants killed was not an achievement.
You should be embarrassed by these statistics not be claiming them as some achievement, the NC vice president wrote.PTI

Srinagar, Jun 20 : National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah today called for immediate dissolution of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and holding of fresh elections in the state.

In a surprise move, the BJP yesterday pulled out of the three-year-old ruling coalition with the PDP in the state that was placed under Governor's rule this morning.

"The J&K state assembly should be dissolved immediately & fresh elections should take place as soon as appropriate. The former DCM has admitted that BJP can't be trusted not to horsetrade for Govt formation (sic)," Omar tweeted.

The former chief minister was reacting to BJP leader and former deputy chief minister (DCM) Kavinder Gupta's reported statement that his party was "working on something".

"I don't think a new government will be formed anytime soon. Uncertainties are there, but we are working on something and people will get to know about it," Gupta had reportedly said.

The NC leader claimed that Gupta's statement hinted at the BJP's attempts to break other parties to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir.

"What do you mean 'we are working on something'? The only 'something' would be to break other parties & make up the numbers to form a BJP Govt. Has the former DCM inadvertently spilled the beans?" Omar asked on Twitter.

On a news report about Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh not being kept in the loop about the BJP's decision to pull out of the government, Omar tweeted, "If this story is true & @HMOIndia didn't know about the impending demise of the BJPDP alliance then the fact that it caught me & my colleagues by surprise is really no big deal."  PTI

Srinagar, Aug 10 : National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah took a dig at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for sharing power with BJP and at the same time seeking help from the Opposition on Article 35-A. Ms Mufti had, in a surprise move, gone to NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah’s Gupkar residence and discussed with him latest political situation, particularly attempts being made to abrogate Article 35-A of the Constitution. She had also met a number of other Opposition leaders, including Communist Party of India (M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Targami, PDF MLA Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and NDF Ghulam Hassan Mir on the issue. However, former chief minister Omar Abdullah taking to micro-blogging site Twitter said “That is the crux of her dilemma - run with the hare & hunt with the hounds. She wants to govern with the BJP & oppose their politics with us”. He was reacting to a tweet which said, “On #35A, bizarre of @MehboobaMufti to seek a consensus against BJP WHILE in an alliance with the BJP. She wants to have AND eat the cake”. However, his tweet evoked mixed response, some asking all political parties to fight against these attempts, cutting across party lines, while others alleged that NC has already eaten full cake and it is only a leftover left for Mr Mufti. The Chief Minister had last month during an event in New Delhi warned that if special rights and privileges to the people of the state are tinkered with, then there would be no one in Jammu and Kashmir to hold the tricolor. “The special status enjoyed by the state needed to be protected and preserved. The legislature of the state enjoys huge powers unlike any other state assembly. We need to preserve and protect this status,” the Chief Minister said, while addressing a public rally in central Kashmir district of Budgam yesterday. UNI

Srinagar, Aug 5 : Reacting to BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra’s comment asking for respecting emotions of people who attacked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said the ruling party at the Centre should use the same yardstick to describe people’s actions and emotions in Kashmir when talking about protests here. Let's respect people's emotions,' said Mr Patra while reacting to Mr Gandhi’s attack. 'It would only be in the fitness of things to use the same yardstick given the whole integral part of India status that J&K enjoys,” the NC Working President wrote. Reacting to YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy’s statement that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should be shot in public for his double speak, he said, 'There is something seriously wrong when our political discourse sinks to this level.' 'Opposing someone or their polices shouldn't sink to this,' he said. UNI
