Srinagar, Mar 13: National Conference (NC) President and MP Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took the right decision to sack Dr Haseeb Drabu from the state cabinet after his comment that ‘Kashmir is not a political issue’.
“All political parties in the valley, besides civil society and common masses rejected the statement made by Dr Drabu… and because of this pressure the ruling party sacked Dr Drabu,” Mr Abdullah said.
“It is the internal matter of PDP, so I can’t say much about it. But, I think it was the right decision taken by them (PDP),” he said.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday removed Dr Drabu from her cabinet for his remarks that Kashmir is not a political issue. Education Minister Altaf Bukhari has been given additional charge of Finance, Labour and Employment departments.
The statement by Dr Drabu created a political storm in the valley and had drawn criticism from the ruling PDP, opposition and separatists alike. The decision by Mehbooba-led government came at a time when the PDP and its coalition partner, the BJP, are at loggerheads on a range of issues, including over rape and murder case of Asifa Bano in Kathua in Jammu region.
“Don’t see J&K as a conflict state and a political issue. It is a society which has social issues right now. We are trying to find our own space and we are going through a process which many other countries are also going through,” Dr Drabu had said at an event ‘Kashmir: The Way Forward’, organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry at New Delhi.
“It (J&K) is not a political issue as far as I can see. They have been barking up the wrong tree for the last 50 or 70 years by talking about the politics of it, that the political situation has never improved. We seriously need to look at in terms of how it is a society that is in search for itself,” he had said.
The PDP had on Sunday demanded an explanation from Dr Drabu and asked him to retract his statement immediately as it was contradictory to their stand.
The NC had also demanded explanation from the Chief Minister on the statement of Drabu and questioned PDP's stand on Kashmir issue, including 'Self Rule'. Separatist organisations had also reacted sharply against Drabu's statement. UNI

Jammu, Dec 5: In a much-publicised writ petition filed by social activist Sukesh C Khajuria seeking registration of FIR against Dr Farooq Abdullah, former Chief Minister J&K and President National Conference for his 'pro-freedom speeches' made on December 5, 2016 at Naseem Bagh (Hazratbal) Srinagar and again on Feb 24, 2017 at party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subh, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, First Puisne Judge, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar directed SSP Srinagar and SHO Nageen to submit response to the petition by or before the next date of hearing December 21.
Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina and Supriya Chouhan on Monday drew the attention of the court towards the latest Miscellaneous Petition filed by the petitioner Mr Khajuria wherein he sought directions to the SSP Srinagar and SHO Police Station, Nageen to place before the High Court the latest status of the inquiry, particularly after the recording of petitioner’s statement at Police Station, Nageen (Srinagar) on Sep 5, 2017.
Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed further submitted that despite the fact that the statement of the petitioner Sukesh C Khajuria has been recorded by the SHO Police Station, Nageen on September 5, 2017, till date there is no headway into the preliminary enquiry initiated on the complaint of the petitioner.
Advocate Ahmed further submitted that as per the law laid down by the Apex Court in the case titled Lalita Kumari V/s Govt of UP and Ors the SHO was under an obligation to complete the preliminary enquiry within 15 days but till date neither the enquiry has been finalized nor the SSP Srinagar and SHO Nageen have filed response to the writ petition.
Advocate Ahmed further submitted that there is casual approach of the State government as despite service nobody is present on behalf of the State government which clearly shows the non-serious attitude of the state government in a petition of wide public importance.
The Court however, directed the registry to list this petition on Dec 21, 2017 for further consideration. UNI

“Can Geelani show me his reaction to the Pak PM who has recently repeated several times that Azadi is not an option for Kashmir. Srinagar, Nov 11: Reiterating that a greater autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) was the only solution to the problem in the sub-continent, former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah said since the region was landlocked and surrounded by three nuclear powers, independence was not a reality.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of a function at National Conference headquarter on Saturday, Dr Abdullah reiterated that autonomy was the only solution to resolve the long pending issue. 'Since we are landlocked surrounded by three nuclear powers — India, Pakistan and China — independent Kashmir was not a reality, the MP from Srinagar constituency said when asked to comment on the recent statement of Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that there can be no freedom to Kashmir. Refusing to comment on the role of Hurriyat Conference (HC) and other separatists, the president of the main opposition National Conference (NC) Dr Abdullah said 'I have nothing with them.' However, he said, the Kashmir issue could not be resolved until Pakistan and India hold talks with the people of the Jammu and Kashmir.  UNI

New Delhi, Aug 17 : In a hard-hitting speech against the NDA government, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah today said that some internal forces being promoted were a greater threat to India than China or Pakistan. Without naming anyone, Dr Abdullah said, 'You are talking of uniting the country, but its is you who are dividing the nation.’’ At this moment, any external source did not pose any threat to India, but it was rather those living inside the country that were more dangerous, Mr Abdullah said addressing the joint Opposition rally ‘Sanjhi Virasat Bachao’(Save the composite culture) rally here. ‘’China can’t do anything to India, neither can Pakistan but it is the very people sitting inside the country that are destroying the nation that India is and dividing us all,’’ the National Conference leader said. The forces that were trying to divide the country can stay for sometime, but they will ultimately perish the British did from the country, Dr Abdullah said. He said he was proud to call himself an Indian Muslim, as Muslims fought for the independence of the country. Coming to Kashmir, he said the Kashmiris were not fighting for Pakistan but for their rights within India. In 1947, Kashmir would have easily joined Pakistan, but its people chose to stay with India, he added. Dr Abdullah’s remarks came amid heightening row over the retention of the Article 35 A which give the J&K Assembly power to define the state’s permanent residents and their special rights and privileges.
