Jaipur, Jun 21 :  The fifth International Day of Yoga was celebrated across Rajasthan on Friday.

Various institutions, government departments and NGOs attended the district-level function at the SMS Stadium here. 

South Western Command of the Army and Rajasthan Police also conducted yoga sessions at their respective offices to observe the day. A defence spokesperson said that army personnel and their family members participated in the event. 

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted, "Let us celebrate International Yoga Day by dedicating ourselves to the practice of ancient science, which unites body, mind and soul." 

At Rajasthan Police headquarters, police personnel performed yoga exercises with DGP Kapil Garg leading the team. 

Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, along with other BJP leaders, celebrated the day at Ram Niwas Garden here.

Paramaribo/Brussels, Jun 21 : President Ram Nath Kovind performed yoga along with his Surinamese counterpart Desire Delano Boutersel while External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj joined the celebrations at the European Parliament as yoga practitioners across the world today performed 'asanas' to mark the fourth International Day of Yoga.

President Kovind, who is in the Surinamese capital Paramaribo on the second leg of his three-nation tour, and Boutersel wearing round neck T-shirts joined dozens of yoga practitioners in this Latin American country to perform the asanas.

"Extremely happy to have participated in #InternationalYogaDay celebrations 14,000 kms away from India at Paramaribo with President Bouterse of Suriname. I thank all the yogis who joined us and made this event truly memorable," President Kovind told the gathering.

This was the first time that heads of two countries together participated in the International Day of Yoga.

The United Nations General Assembly in December 2014 had declared that June 21 would be observed as International Day of Yoga every year.

In Brussels, Swaraj joined the yoga day celebrations at the Yehudi Menuhin Space in the European Parliament.

In Pakistan, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the yoga day as a festival of health and well-being. Over 100 members of the diplomatic community and Pakistani citizens from different walks of life joined the guided yoga and meditation sessions at the mission. The yoga day celebrations were also held in different cities of Pakistan, including Karachi and Lahore.

In Nepal, a special mass yoga demonstration was held in the premises of Nepal Police Training Academy in capital Kathmandu which was attended by hundreds of people despite rain since early morning.

Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel, along with Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri and hundreds of yoga enthusiasts, performed yoga postures in an hour-long event.

A massive yoga session was held at the holy premises of Janaki temple in Janakpur where Governor Ratneshwar Lal Kayastha and Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut attended the event.

In China, Indian envoy Gautam Bambawale along with other diplomats, staff of the Embassy, yoga teachers and students of a yoga centre participated in a colourful yoga event in Beijing. Over 500 yoga lovers turned up to take part in over hour-long special yoga workout at the old Indian Embassy premises.

"I would say tens of thousands took part in China. But millions will be doing in their way either individually or in smaller groups," Bambawale said.

The day is celebrated in 25 to 30 cities in different parts of China with larger turnouts, he said, adding that the popularity of yoga is going to increase not only in India but also in China.

In Bangladesh, around 10,000 people attended the ancient Indian discipline at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.

UN ambassadors, diplomats, spiritual leaders, members of civil society and children participated in a flagship Yoga Day event organised yesterday by India's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.

They enthusiastically participated in the two-hour long yoga session with the theme of 'Yoga for peace', performing different yoga asanas and exercises on colourful yoga mats spread across the expansive North Lawn in the UN Headquarters.

"Today's world is incredibly complex. We are challenged by an erosion of our core values and in many walks of life stress is given, delusion prevails especially amongst our youth Yoga, deriving from the Sanskrit word of unity, is so very apt for the United Nations," Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, said in her address yesterday to mark the fourth anniversary of the International Day of Yoga.

Voicing her deep appreciation to India for organising the yoga day event, Mohammed underscored the importance of yoga in the overall well-being of individuals and even in various aspects of the world body's functioning.

India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, who joined those gathered in performing yoga exercises and asanas, said yoga has become even more relevant as the world is recognising the critical importance of moving towards more sustainable lifestyles, in tune with surroundings and more in harmony with nature.

An exhibition on yoga was inaugurated in the UN building on June 18 and will run through June 22. As in past years, yoga postures were projected through lasers on the North Facade of the UN Headquarters Building.

In Gulf countries, yoga day celebrations were held in Manama (Bahrain), Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Ajman in UAE. PTI


Ahmedabad, Jun 21 : Yoga is the best way to deal with stress, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said today and expressed happiness that over 75 lakh people across the state joined him in the International Yoga Day celebrations.

Around 750 differently-abled people also joined Rupani in doing exercises based on the ancient Indian discipline here, while women and students performed 'aqua yoga' in some other parts of the state.

Rupani attended a yoga day event at the Sardar Patel stadium here this morning and performed various 'asanas' (exercises) along with thousands of other enthusiasts.

Union Minister of State for Law and Justice P P Chaudhary along with Gujarat High Court Justice M R Shah and Rajasthan High Court Justice K S Jhaveri also performed yoga with thousands of participants at the function here.

The participants included students, women, senior citizens, IAS and IPS officers and personnel from the paramilitary forces. Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel was also present at the event and performed yoga.

Later, Rupani along with his wife Anjaliben attended another programme at the GMDC ground where 750 'divyang' (differently-abled) people performed yoga.

Other Gujarat ministers and dignitaries also took part in yoga events in various parts of the state.

Addressing the participants here, Rupani said people should try to do yoga regularly.

"Thanks to efforts of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has become popular across the world. In Gujarat, over 75 lakh people took part in this fourth edition of the International Yoga Day," he said.

"Yoga is the best way to deal with stress. It helps us in keeping away various ailments and also gives us peace of mind. I urge people to make yoga their daily routine instead of just doing it today," the chief minister said.

In Vadodara, school students performed yoga in water at an indoor swimming pool.

Similarly, group of women performed 'aqua yoga' in Rajkot.

In Modasa town of Arvalli district, students from various schools performed different 'asanas' along with skating.PTI

JAMMU, JUNE 18: To finalize the necessary arrangements for the celebrations of International Yoga Day - 2018, a meeting of district officers was held under the chairmanship of Additional Development Commissioner, Arun Manhas at KKHakku Stadium here today.
Threadbare discussions on various arrangements related to the smooth conduct of the function like seating, barricading, drinking water and power supply, sanitation, first- aid, medicare, sanitation, security, transport and traffic regulations to the people participating in the function were discussed in the meeting.
The ADC asked the concerned officers to ensure better coordination for making effective arrangements pertaining to their departments for making a function grand success.  “It is our responsibility that all necessary arrangements are ensured well in time” he said, adding that it must be ensured that no participant faces any kind of difficulty during the event.
He also asked for making seating arrangements at the venue for the elderly dignitaries.


KATHUA, JUNE 13: In order to review the arrangements for "International Day of Yoga" being observed on 21st June 2017, Deputy Commissioner Rohit Khajuria held a meeting of officers, here today.
It was decided that the event will be organized at Sports Stadium Kathua where arrangements for large gathering will be made to commemorate the day.
During the meeting DC called for inter-departmental coordination and collaboration between the departments involving all stakeholders of the society for the success of the event.
During the meeting, DC directed the department of AYUSH to provide yoga instructors whereas Health department will ensure participation of trainees and staff along with deployment of Ambulance. The Youth Sports Services department will do ground marking at the venue. The Education Department will ensure the participation of students from educational institutions involving NSS/NCC volunteers, ITI and B.Ed colleges. Other departments viz PHE, ICDS, are directed to look after the water arrangements and public mobilization respectively besides cleanliness and wide publicity of the event are to be ensured by the Municipality and Information department.
Members of social organizations like Art of Living, Patanjali and Yoga enthusiasts assured full cooperation to the administration by helping in wide publicity and providing other logistic support for the success of the event.
The representative of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Government and Private colleges will also provide students, staff and volunteers for the smooth observance of the event. 
ADC, ACD, District Youth Coordinator NYK, CEO, Medical Officers, Executive Engineers, Officers of Police Training School, CEO Municipality, DYSSO, representatives of Government and Private colleges, Patanjali, Art of living were also present on the occasion.

JAMMU, JUNE 21: The 3rd edition of International Yoga day was celebrated across Jammu province with great vigor and enthusiasm.
 At Udhampur, a large number of people participated in special yoga classes organized by district administration in collaboration with different NGOs to mark the 3rd International   Yoga Day under the theme 'Yoga For Health' at Government Degree College Boys.   
   Member Legislative Assembly, Pawan Kumar Gupta, District Development Commissioner, Niraj Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Avny Lavasa, Additional SP, Faisal Qureshi, Commandant 187 BN CRPF, Harindar Kumar, Second-in- Command 187 Bn CRPF, Devanand, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, Chief Medical Officer, K.C Dogra, senior officer of civil, CRPF and Police, Representatives of Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, Art of Living, large number of students, women and prominent citizens participated in the yoga session.
 In an hour long yoga session, the MLA along with DDC, district officers and prominent citizens performed many important yoga aasnas (Yoga poses).
At Reasi, Department of Youth Services and Sports in collaboration with Bharat Swabhiman Trust and District Unit of Patanjali Yog, observed  3rd International Yoga Day.
District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar was chief guest while SSP Tahir Bhat was guest of honor on the occasion. 
Among other officers of district administration, doctors, members from various organizations, prominent citizens, Yoga experts and learners participated in the programme.
A two hours yoga session was conducted  by Madan Lal, Jaswant Singh and yoga instructors of Patanjali Yoga Peeth in which all the participants evinced their keen interest in the yoga exercises taught to them.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC appreciated the efforts of Youth Services and Sports and other organizations in observing the day every year which attracts local people towards yogic exercises. He said modern eating habits and life styles have affected the health of people to a larger extent and yoga is one stop solution for all.
At Kathua various educational institutions, Government departments, social organizations, NCC units today participated to celebrate 3rd International Yoga Day with vigor and enthusiasm.
Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with district administration and AYUSH observed International Day of Yoga at auditorium of GDC Kathua.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion. He said that today people of 177 countries are celebrating Yoga day for bringing peace and harmony in their lives. He appealed the people especially youth to adopt Yoga in their routine life as it leads to strengthening of both mental and physical health which is pre-requisite for peace and prosperity in society.
DC also highlighted the importance of yoga saying that yoga is an invaluable gift of India to the world which brings harmony in all walks of life, promotes health and stress management by checking anxiety and many lifestyle disorders. It not only enlightens the mind but also the soul, he added.
A large number of persons from all walks of life, Youth Clubs, Mahila Mandals, Patanjali Yog, various social, religious, yoga and meditation organizations, NGOs, education institutions and Police Training Schools participated in the yoga session.
At Rajouri, under the supervision of District Development Commissioner, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, the AYUSH Department of Indian System of Medicines in collaboration with District Youth Services & Sports department observed the 3rd International Yoga Day.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mumtaz Ali Chowdhary along with government employees, sportspersons and students performed various yogasanas at PWD Dakbunglow.
Speaking on the occasion the ADC said practicing yoga keeps both body and mind healthy and one should practice it regularly.
The day was also observed across the district. At Sub-Divisional headquarters Nowshera and Sunderbani, SDMs Harbans Lal and Kartar Singh respectively inaugurated the IYD.
The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014.
At Poonch, a program was organized by District Youth Services and Sports Department under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Poonch.
 SSP Poonch Rajiv Panday was chief guest on the occasion while Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurvinderjeet Sinng was the guest of honour.
At Doda, yoga programme was organized by Assistant District Medical Officer (AYUSH) in collaboration with Deptt of Youth Service and Sports and District Administration.
DDC, Bhupinder Kumar was chief guest on the ocassion. SSP Shabir Khatana, ADC Mohd Hanief Malik, CMO Wajid Ali najar, DYSSO Ashok Kotwal and other district officers were also present.
At Ramban, Ayush, Youth Service and Sports, Information and Public Relation and Patanjali Yog Peeth in coordination with District Administration organized 3rd International Yoga Day at   Government Higher Secondary School Ramban.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Ramban, Neelam Kumar said that present generation must inculcate Yoga in their life and make it habit to perform the exercises of Yoga on a routine basis. He said similar activities are required for children in their home and for the students in schools. He also lauded the efforts of PM Narinder Modi for providing a platform to Yoga internationally.
ADC, Angrez Singh, Dy. CMO, Dr. Iqbal Bhat , Nodal Officer Ayush, Shashi Kant Sharma, DYSSO, Principal of host school and other officers besides President Patanjali Yoga samiti Ramban, Amar Singh participated in Yoga.  
  Among other Doctors, Members of Patanjali Yog Peeth Ramban, prominent citizens and a huge gathering of Yoga experts and learners were also present there.
Similar Yoga Camp was also held at Batote and BVM High School, Ramban where staff members along with their families and stakeholders of the institutions participated.
At Kishtwar, 3rd international yoga day was celebrated in Parade ground Kishtwar.
The programme was organized by the department of Youth Service and Sports in collaboration with district administration.
SSP Sandeep wazir was chief guest. DYSSO, Deewan Chand Thakur besides other officers were also present on the ocassion. 
Yoga camp under the supervision of Director General of Police, Prisons J&K, S.K. Mishra was conducted by the Art of living organization   headed by Hemu Lata.
Later, a cultural programme by the artists of Song & Drama Division, Ministry of information and broadcasting was organized in District Jail Jammu.
Superintendent District Jail Jammu, Javid Masood Fazili, also spoke on the occasion and motivated the jail inmates to make yoga as routine in their daily life with a purpose to keep themselves physically as well as mentally fit.
 International Yoga  Day was  celebrated  in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in which jail inmates, jail staff besides  officers/officials   participated.
  Rajan Salathia, Faculty, Art  of  Living  and his team members performed with  the Jail Inmates and staff members  under  the  guidance of  Director  General  of  Police, Prisons  J&K , S. K. Mishra.

A cultural programme was also organized on the occasion.

          SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy J&K (ISM), today organized 3rd International Yoga Day at Indoor Stadium Complex.
The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Poornima Mittal, Director ISM, Chief Medical Officer, Members of Youth Services & Sports and Sports Council, CRPF besides students of different AYUSH Medical Institutions.
          Highlighting the importance of Yoga, Director of ISM said the practice of Yoga in daily provides numerous benefits as it results in improved immunity, better flexibility, and posture besides reducing the the stress levels to a large extent.
 Speakers on the occasion,  stressed on the need to carry forward the Yoga awareness to every nook and corner of the State by involving NGOs, District Administration, School Education and other related departments like Youth Services & Sports.         
          Medical Officers of ISM urged people to take a pledge to make Yoga an integral part of their daily life as it helps in creating peace and harmony within oneself.
          Pertinently, United Nations General Assembly, heeding to call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had made a declaration in December 2014 to observe June 21 every year as International Day of Yoga.
 Renowned Yoga Expert, Deepak Sharma enthralled the gathering for an hour to instruct the various techniques of Yoga to the participants.

          Additional Deputy Commissioner Poornima Mittal, All Medical Officers of ISM, CRPF personnels and students dedicatedly did various exercises of Yoga. 

          KUPWARA, JUNE 21: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) today organized mega events in Kupwara district to mark the third edition of International Yoga Day to highlight the need of maintaining harmony between man and nature and adopting a holistic approach to health and well-being.
          More than 800 youths from NCC, NSS, Schools, Colleges, Youth Clubs and Mahila Mandals from across the district participated in the 3rd International Day of Yoga.
            Officers of District administration, AYUSH doctors, Youth services and Sports Officials, Yog Gurus and other dignitaries participated in the Yoga Day celebration at Tourist Reception Center premises at Kupwara.
          On the occasion, Director General NYKS Major General Dilawar Singh announced an employment scheme for the youth of Kashmir under the title Yoga for Empowerment & Employment of Kashmiri Youth.

          Many Yoga programmes were conducted throughout the State at the Village, Block and District level by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 21: The Deputy Chief Minister  Dr Nirmal Singh  while  highlighting  the importance  of Yoga in  the development of  human persona today said that benefits of this traditional form of exercise and meditation is known since times immemorial and now onus lies on us to  ensure its propagation as well as  promotion.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a gathering of participants who had gathered to perform Yoga in wee hours here today on the eve of International Yoga Day.
Minister for Industries Chander Parkash Ganga, Ex-MP, Avinash Ray Khanna, Member Central Waqaf Board, Dr Drakshan Andrabi, VC JKPCC Khalid Jahangir, MLC Ramesh Arora, KVIC North Zone Member Dr Hina Bhatt and people from different walks of life were present on the occasion.
Dr Singh  said  that the practice  of Yoga is prevalent in our society since ancient times and its benefits stand  highlighted by national and international scholars and researchers, as a consequence of which it has been adopted  in large scale  by  people of  many western  and Asian nations.  He said it has also been recorded in our religious texts that the exercise and meditation are very essential for the overall wellbeing of mental and physical health besides fighting the aging process, other ailments like depression and various diseases.        
The onus of propagating this health friendly concept should be on every individual so that the younger generation gets attracted to this, which would result in their mental and physical development and also  thwart the  danger of them getting  swayed by  other  social evils, he added.
  While appreciating the historical initiative  and   role played by Prime Minister in ensuring that this  ancient  art gets propagated on large scale both globally as well as nationally, the  Deputy Chief Minister said that it is due to his  endeavors  that Yoga is  gaining tremendous  acceptability and  adaptability  across the globe. The Prime Minister who is himself a great exponent of Yoga has also been instrumental in ensuing that this traditional art of living was well received globally, he added.

The session was later followed by an interaction between the participants and the Yoga experts in which various health benefits of Yoga were discussed.
