Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao


Hyderabad, Jan 25 :  Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said the state assembly may pass a resolution against the new law like some other states did recently.

Rao said he has already spoken to many of his counterparts in other states and he may convene a conclave of regional parties and Chief Ministers here to oppose the CAA since it concerns the country's future.

The TRS is secular by its policy and nature and it had opposed the CAA, he told reporters here.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi had voted against the amendment to citizenship law in Parliament last month.

"I have already spoken to many chief ministers on this. I spoke to leaders of other parties also.

Probably, maybe, in the next one month, I may arrange a conclave of regional parties and CMs in Hyderabad to oppose this....100 per cent. Because, this concerns the future of the country. This is not good for India, where 130 crore (people) live," Rao said.

After Kerala and Punjab, Rajasthan became the third state to pass a resolution against the CAA on Saturday.

Hyderabad, Jun 13:   Nama Nageswara Rao was Thursday elected leader of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Lok Sabha.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the TRS Parliamentary Party, chaired by TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, party sources said.

Nama Nageswara Rao was elected to the Lok Sabha from Khammam.

Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao was elected as TRS parliamentary party leader, the sources said.

Keshav Rao was also elected as the partys leader in Rajya Sabha.                 [Agencies]

Sangareddy (Telangana), Feb 26 :  A 80-year-old woman died in an attempt to escape from an attack by monkeys in Siddipet district of Telangana, a police official said Tuesday.

V Bhadravva (80) was sitting in front of her house in Pandilla village in the district Monday evening when the animals attacked her, said assistant commissioner of police Mahender Reddy.

The panicked woman ran, and she fell into a roadside pit and sustained head injuries. She died before she could reach the hospital, he said

Village head T Ramesh said the biggest problem the village has been facing was the monkey menace. The animals have a free run and the residents can't move about without difficulty, he said.

He claimed there were about 1,000 monkeys in and around the village; they attack the houses and the people.

The village sarpanch has requested the forest department to end the monkey menace and said a special meeting of the panchayat would be convened to discuss the issue.                [Agencies]

Hyderabad, Feb 23 :  A 40-year-old CRPF jawan, part of a 14-member team, has been reported missing during a train journey from Delhi to Secunderabad here and a case registered, railway police sources said Saturday.

Saldesh Kumar, from Jammu and Kashmir, was found missing after the team arrived here by Telangana express train on February 20, according to the complaint lodged by an official of the paramilitary force.

Investigation was on to trace the jawan, they added.

The CRPF personnel were coming to their Group Centre at Hakimpet, Secunderabad, the sources said.                [Agencies]

Rameswaram (TN), Feb 21 :  Five Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy Thursday for allegedly fishing in the island nation's waters, a Fisheries department official said here.

The fishermen from Jagadapattinam inPudukottai district were fishing near Neduntheevu off the Lankan coast when they were arrested, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Pudukottai, Kumaresan said.

They were taken to Kangesanthurai along with their boat, he added.

Eight fishermen from Mandapam in Ramanathapuramn district were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly fishing in Sri Lanka's territorial waters, Kumaresan said.

Two boats were also seized, he added.

He alleged that Lankan navy personnel had snapped the nets of as many as 50 boats of Rameswaram fishermen who had put out to the sea in over 500 boats Wednesday.            [Agencies]

Hyderabad, Feb 18 :  Three people were Monday arrested in the Nizamabad district of Telangana for allegedly uploading anti-national and pro-Pakistan video on the social media in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, police said.

The trio - two from Uttar Pradesh and another from Telangana - uploaded the video.

The video purportedly showed the three dancing with a voice in the background allegedly raising anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans, an investigating official told our sources over phone.

Upon seeing the video, a person complained to the police.

Based on the complaint, a case under IPC sections 153 A (promoting enmity) and 505 (2) (public mischief) was registered and the trio arrested, the official said.

Forty CRPF personnel were killed last Thursday in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir when a Jaish suicide bomber rammed a vehicle carrying explosives into their bus in Pulwama district.                        [Agencies]

Hyderabad, Jan 16 :  Three members of the Telangana Legislative Council, who switched loyalty to the Congress on the eve of the December 7 assembly elections, were Wednesday disqualified with immediate effect on grounds of defection.

TLC Chairman K Swamy Goud Wednesay disqualified K Yadava Reddy, R Bhoopathi Reddy and S Ramulu Naik as members of the upper house of legislature.

Separate bulletins have been issued by the secretary to the state legislature on their disqualification.

The ruling TRS had complained to the Chairman against the members seeking their disqualification for allegedly working against the party in the Assembly polls and also joining the Congress.

Rule 6 of the Telangana Legislative Council (Disqualification on Ground of Defection) Rules, has disqualified K Yadava Reddy, who was elected by the Members of Legislative Assembly, with immediate effect,a bulletin said.

Bhoopathi Reddy had been elected from Nizamabad Local Authorities constituency, while Naik was a nominated member.

The Council would meet on January 19 for its next session and the Governor has issued a notification.                                             PTI

Hyderabad, Oct 15 (PTI) Political parties are divided over the BJP's proposal in its yet-to-be-released election manifesto to restrict sale of liquor in Telangana.

"How can I comment on somebody else's manifesto?" a senior Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader responded when asked for his party's view on the matter.

Another TRS leader noted that the BJP was yet to officially release the manifesto and added that the party may comment after it's actually unveiled.

A key Congress functionary said he welcomed the proposal on a personal level but pointed to revenue collection implications for the State.

"This government has taken the revenue from liquor sales from Rs 8,000 crore per annum to Rs 20,000 crore in the last four and half years.

If liquor sales are curbed, it will hurt the State economy, draining its resources to a significant extent," he said.

The CPI National General Secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy was dismissive about the BJP's proposal.

"They are not going to come to power any way. What's the purpose of making such a statement. These are empty statements like their national manifesto like 15 lakh rupees for each family promised by Narendra Modi," Reddy told PTI.

The BJP won five seats in the 2014 Assembly elections in alliance with the TDP, which emerged victorious in 15 constituencies.

This time, the BJP is going it alone in the December seven polls for the 119-member Assembly.

The BJP has proposed in its election manifesto, which is in the works, to regulate the sale of liquor, claiming that its unrestricted availability and consumption was leading to several social and law and order problems in the state.

The proposal is to restrict the sale of liquor to five days a week.

"Sale of liquor will be regulated to five days only..

Every day, timings will be maintained.. After 6 (PM), no wine shop or bar will be open," BJP's manifesto committee chairman N V S S Prabhakar had said.

The TRS government in Telangana and the governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh have seen sale of liquor only as a source of income, Prabhakar, who was MLA in the recently dissolved Telangana Legislative Assembly, alleged.

The consumption of liquor is leading to various problems, including atrocities against women, suicides and law and order problems, Prabhakar claimed.

Ajmer, Oct 6 (PTI) In a scathing attack Saturday on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition party of practising vote bank politics and dividing people to get into power.

The prime minister made the charge at a rally here just ahead of the announcement of assembly election dates for Rajasthan and four other states in November and December.

He asked people not to let the Congress get into power again.

Modi said vote bank politics is not limited to elections now.

Political parties which do vote bank politics divide the bureaucracy when they are in power and this badly affects governance, he said.

They allocate the budget as per vote bank politics and therefore overall development does not happen, he said at the meeting which marked the end of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's state-wide political `yatra'.

The Congress has established this tradition in the past 60 years, Modi said.

"With great difficulty, the country has picked the right direction now after 60 years. Don't give them another chance again, he said.

He said the Congress leaders' high command is a family and they can do politics only be revering it.

He accused the party low-level politics.

The Congress leaders were questioning the surgical strikes by the Army across the Line of Control two years ago and insulting soldiers, he said.

They should be ashamed of indulging in such politics, Modi said.

The rally marked the end of Raje's Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra', an outreach exercise by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The prime minister's rally ended shortly before the Election Commission's press conference in Delhi announcing the polling dates for Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana.

Rajasthan will go to the polls on December 7. Counting will take place in all five states on December 11, the EC announced.

Hyderabad, Sep 17 : Telangana's IT Minister K T Rama Rao has criticised BJP President Amit Shah for questioning the K Chandrasekhar Rao government's decision to go in for early elections to the assembly.

Addressing party workers here Sunday, Rama Rao, son of Chandrasekhar Rao, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi opted for early polls in Gujarat when he was the chief minister of the state in 2002.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also went for early polls in 2004, he pointed out.

"Then what is wrong if the TRS government goes for early polls", Rao, popularly known as KTR, asked.

He also hit out at claims by Shah over the Centre's contribution towards development of Telangana.

The Telangana IT minister claimed there were no special favours offered by the Centre to the state, which registered a growth rate of 17.17 per cent.

"Telangana has been playing great role in the nation's development and Shah must understand that the central government depends on states for pooling revenues," he added.

Rao also accused the BJP of cheating the public both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and said it has "no moral right" to seek votes from Telugu people.

The BJP leaders in Telangana were making "dubious" claims on winning the elections here, he added.

Shah had Saturday questioned Chandrasekhar Rao for prematurely dissolving the Telangana Assembly and "burdening" the people with expenditure.PTI

Hyderabad, Sep 11 : At least 15 passengers died and 20 others were injured after a state-owned Road Transport Corporation bus fell into a valley in Jagtial district Tuesday, officials said.

The bus returning from Kondagattu to Jagital skidded off the ghat road near Shanivarapet village and fell into the valley resulting in the accident, they said.

Over 40 passengers were travelling in the bus.

"The incident happened between 11.45 am and noon. At least 15 persons have died in the mishap...20 others were injured and they have been shifted to different hospitals," Jagtial District Collector A Sharat, who is supervising the relief and rescue work, told PTI over phone.PTI

Hyderabad, Sep 10: The 'Bharat Bandh' call given by several opposition parties over rising petrol and diesel prices Monday evoked a mixed response as it was business as usual in many parts of the state, including the capital city.

No untoward incidents have been reported so far, police said.

The police took scores of leaders and workers of the Congress, Left and Telugu Desam Party into custody when they held protests near State Road Transport Corporation depots, preventing busses from plying on roads.

AICC secretary Srinivasan Krishnan and 40 others were taken into preventive custody in Karimnagar town after they staged a dharna in front of RTC bus station in Dharmapuri in Karimnagar district, a police official said.

"They were later shifted to the Police Training Centre," a police official said.

Srinivasan Krishnan told PTI that besides the central taxes, local TRS government has also levied more tax further burdening the public.

A senior official of the TSRTC told PTI there was no disruption of services in any district of the state.

"We have not received any reports of disruption of services. Our officials are in touch with police officials. If there is any law and order problem respective depot managers will take decision on running the services," the official said.

Reports indicate that several government and commercial establishments are conducting activities normally.

Osmania University Vice Chancellor S Ramachandram told PTI the pre-Phd examination which was scheduled to be held Monday has been postponed for tomorrow.

According to him, all the educational institutions affiliated to the varsity are open and functioning.

A senior official of the State School Education department said they have not issued any orders to close schools in view of the bandh.

However, respective school headmasters will take a decision as and when necessity.

RTC buses were seen plying in minimal numbers. Petrol bunks remained open and some of the commercial establishments and educational institutions remain closed in Karimnagar and Warangal, reports indicated. (PTI)

Hyderabad, Aug 20: Telangana IAS Officers' Association today said it has resolved to contribute at least one day salary of the serving officers to the Kerala Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

Expressing concern at the loss of lives and hardship faced by the people in the floods, the association extended solidarity and support for the ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts being carried out in the state.

"The Telangana State IAS Officers' Association further resolved to contribute at least one day salary of the serving IAS officers in Telangana to the CM Relief Fund of Kerala as a small contribution to the rescue, relief and rehabilitation work," a statement issued by the association said.

Telangana Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy yesterday handed over a cheque for Rs 25 crore to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram as assistance for the state government's flood relief activities. (PTI)

Hyderabad, Aug 2 : Telangana police is now equipped with another 'powerful' tool - 'Facial Recognition System' (FRS) that would help them prevent crime and identify criminals/suspects at lightning speed, a top police official said today.

FRS is an integrated feature of TSCOP mobile app for assisting investigation officers for developing effective and efficient services to citizens and thereby improving responsiveness, State Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy told reporters here.

The tool allows police to identify potential offenders by comparing a suspect's face with lakhs of digital photographs of people including offenders, wanted and those missing stored in the central database of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), he said.

The whole process would only take a few seconds, he said adding in case of photographs matching, investigation officers can carry out manual comparison and proceed for further confirmation using other information.

The central database of photographs will be updated regularly through CCTNS implemented in all police stations across the state, Reddy said.

The photographs of people that do not match with the central database would automatically be discarded and shall not be stored anywhere in the system, the DGP said.

The main objective of the app (TSCOP) launched earlier this year is to ensure better collaboration and operational efficiency of the police at all levels in the districts and commissionerates across the state.   PTI

Hyderabad, Jul 28: The Telangana government has decided to take up a census of the backward class (BC) population in the state.

A decision in this regard was taken at the meeting of the Telangana cabinet yesterday.

"To take up census of BC population in the state at once," a release from the office of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who chaired the cabinet meeting, said.

A scheme of eye-testing for all the citizens ("Kanti velugu") would also be launched across the state on August 15, it said.

The state cabinet also approved the appointment of special officers in place of those heads of gram panchayats, whose term was coming to an end soon, it added.

According to the release, land not exceeding one acre would be allotted to all recognised political parties at the rate of Rs 100 per yard for construction of their party offices and these party offices would be exempted from property tax.

In accordance with guidelines of earlier governments, land allotment to TRS party in 29 districts for constructing party offices in district headquarters has been approved, it said.

Also, in addition to the existing residential schools for the backward classes in the state, 119 new schools, one per Assembly segment, would be established, it added. (PTI)

Karimnagar(Telangana), May 29:  Seven people including two women were killed while 14 others were injured when the government bus they were travelling in collided with a truck at Chengerla village in the district today, police said.

The incident occured when the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus was proceeding to Karimnagar from Warangal, at about 9 AM, they said.

When the vehicle reached Chengerla village, a truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into it, Karimnagar Rural Assistant Commissioner of Police Usha Rani said.

Six people including two women were killed on the spot, while 15 others including the driver of the truck were shifted to various hospitals in Karimnagar town, she said.

The condition of four injured is said to be critical.

Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the deceased, police said.

Expressing grief over the mishap, Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked the officials to ensure better medical care to the victims, a release from his office said. PTI

Bhadradri Kothagudem (Telangana), Sept 21: Police and the Ramanna Dalam of the banned CPI-ML(New Democracy) exchanged fire at Siddaram forest area in Tekulapalli mandal in the wee hours in the district today. However, the police have not confirmed any casualties so far in the firing. Police parties combing the forest area ran into the dalam, which was camping in the forest area, resulting in the exchange of fire, police said. Arms were seized from the firing spot, police added. Interacts with ration dealers of Hyderabad, says J&K also heading towards cashless economy in PDS
          HYDERABAD (TELANGANA) MAY 06: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali, called on Minister for Finance & Planning, Small Savings, State Lotteries, Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology & Civil Supplies in Telangana Government Etela Rajender and held deliberations on various issues pertaining to food, civil supplies and legal metrology.
          Zulfkar also held meeting with the officers of the Civil Supplies Department in Hyderabad wherein he was given presentation on the success story of e-PDS in Telanagana. He was briefed about the effective system of e-PDS, issues and challenges faced by the Telangana Government while implementing e-PDS.
          The Minister was apprised that Civil Supplies Department Telangana is effectively utilizing the e-PDS online software. He was informed that the technology is used to seed the ration card data base with Aadhaar numbers which eliminated bogus, dead and duplicate cards/units with Aadhaar authentication.  He was also briefed about Supply Chain Management - Vehicle Tracking system and FP shop automation.
          About the methodology, he was given information that Tehsildars maintain and manage cards by making inactive/active and transfer and tagging of cards to shops etc wherein total card strength is taken and the dynamic key registers are generated for the month for the entire state. After the Commissioner approval, key registers are released to be printed as sale registers for all fair price shops, the Minister was told.
          Praising the Telangana Government for efficient PDS in the state, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said that such a system will benefit Jammu & Kashmir at large as it increases transparency in the system eliminates chances of pilferages.
          He said that J&K Government is also heading towards cashless economy and Department of FCS&CA is playing key role in making all transactions cashless. He said that Point of Sale Machines are being installed and supply chain management will start soon to make the system most transparent. He said that online allocation of foodgrains which has decreased manual work has already been started.
          He also visited various Fair Price Shops in Hyderabad to know about ground level functioning of automated machines used in these shops.
