Smriti Irani holds public meetings at Reasi


Reasi, Jan 19 :  Union Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development, Smriti Irani today conducted public meetings at village Moori of Dheeti Panchayat and at Spritual Growth Centre here today.

Addressing a huge crowd near Middle School Moori, Smriti Irani congratulated the locals for participating in huge numbers in parliamentary as well as Urban Local Bodies elections in the recent past. She also congratulated the administration for successfully conducting the elections.

The Union Minister also passed directions for on-spot resolution of several demands raised at the occasion which were readily accepted by the district administration. A steel foot bridge over Junnie Nallah was also inaugurated by the minister at the occasion earlier in the day.

At another public meeting at Katra, the Union Minister met with elected members of Katra Municipal Committee, Panchs-Sarpanchs of block Katra, prominent citizens and a large number of students among locals. She also inaugurated road from Paroh-Arli and Kadmal-Dhanna roads through e-inauguration.

In her welcome address, the DC said that Reasi has a huge potential for organic farming and progressive farmers are already taking up cultivation of lemongrass, a highly profitable cash crop. Block Development Council chairpersons and sarpanchs of blocks Pintail and Katra also welcomed the Union Minister and raised development issues.

In a response to public demand for opening a textile unit in the district, the Union Minister assured that a suitable unit would be set up immediately after a formal request by the district administration.

Counting achievements of the central government, Smriti said that more than 8 lakh farmers are being benefitted under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. Similarly, around 24 thousand saffron growers have benefitted under National Saffron Mission till date in J&K. She said that under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, more than 12 lakh gas cylinders have been distributed to poor households of the Union Territory.

It was also told by the Union Minister that 3.5 lakh cards have been distributed, of over 11 lakh identified, under the ambitious Ayushman Bharat Yojana through which 50 thousand residents of the UT have already benefitted. She also told that more than 140 district and sub-district level hospital projects have been identified for up-gradation in Jammu & Kashmir in addition to the two upcoming AIIMS with an allocated budget of Rs 2 thousand crore.

Appreciating the enthusiasm of people of J&K towards Panchayati Raj and other democratic institutions, Smriti said that with dialogue and participation of people, all things are possible. ‘A new wave of development has just begun’, she added.

Amethi, Apr 13: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani on Friday hit back on Congress president Rahul Gandhi in his Amethi parliamentary constituency over Thursday's candlelight march in New Delhi by the Congress over Kathua and Unnao rape cases.
"Rahul Gandhi earlier stood in support of Gayatri Prasad Prajapati in UP. It's just his compulsion to take a stand this time but Amethi knows the truth. I have faith that justice will be provided in both the incidents," she said while commenting on the Unnao and Kathua incidents.
"Those who asked for votes for Gayatri Prajapati are protesting today. People know the reality," she told reporters here.
Ms Irani, who is on a two-day visit to Amethi, refused to comment on the Unnao incident and said it is a state matter and as the CBI was investigating the incident, hence nothing could be said on the issue. "Let the investigation agency do its work."
But she said the government is committed to providing security to the women and at any cost this will be maintained.
Asked Mr Gandhi too is coming to Amethi on Monday, the Union Minister said, "We are working for the people of the Amethi and the Congress president is coming to watch it."
Ms Irani met several villagers of Amethi and she also assured the people of Dih village that a bridge would be constructed so that the children can have easy assess to schools. UNI

Mysuru, Apr 7: Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smrithi Irani, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, actor-turned-MP Hema Malini and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are expected to be among the ‘star campaigners’ of BJP in Karnataka from second week of April for May 12 Assembly elections .
The star campaigners will be touring Karnataka besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah who are likely to hit the campaign trail soon, party sources said.
With the State under the grip of election fever, the saffron party is said to have finalised the list of star campaigners for obtaining clearance from the Election Commission since each of them were entitled to certain privileges in their campaign itinerary in the wake of strict enforcement of model code of conduct ahead of the May 12 elections.
Mysuru will be among the key campaign zones of these leaders with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the fray from the high-profile Chamundeshwari constituency and his son Yatheendra from Varuna which the CM had held for two terms.
BJP leader M A Mohan told UNI that the top BJP leaders are expected to campaign in Mysuru in addition to other constituencies in the third week of April. Leaders from the State, including State BJP president and Chief Ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa, Union Ministers Ananth Kumar, Ananth Kumar Hegde and Shobha Karandlaje, MP and others will also be campaigning for the candidates as star campaigners.
“The expenses of the leaders listed as star campaigners will be borne by the party. These leaders get a vehicle and also centralised permission for travel to places where they will be campaigning. They need not have to take permission from the respective district election authorities,” he added.
Details of the road shows and other campaign highlights in the district will be known once the list was approved by the Election Commission which is expected at the earliest. The star campaigners are likely to descend in the constituencies that had generated a lot of curiosity among the electorate with the Congress and the JD-S leaving no stone unturned to reach out to the voters.
Three vehicles equipped with LED screens – one bigger vehicle for the Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency and four smaller vehicles for the Assembly constituencies in Mysuru city – Chamaraja, Narasimharaja, Krishnaraja and Chamundeshwari (the booths located in Mysuru city limits) – will move around the constituencies highlighting the then Yeddyurappa government’s and the NDA government’s contribution, he said.
Mr. Mohan said the bigger vehicle will travel across Mysuru and Kodagu districts, which are part of Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency, and the smaller vehicles will travel across city-based constituencies from Saturday.
An in-charge had been appointed for each vehicle who will chalk out the campaign route of these vehicles. As many as 109 such campaign vehicles had been flagged off for the party’s campaign in the State, he added. UNI

New Delhi, Apr 3: Following the protests over the guidelines issued by the Information and Broadcasting Minister on Monday for curbing 'fake news', the Government on Tuesday announced that the release stands withdrawn.
'PIB Press release titled “Guidelines for Accreditation of Journalists amended to regulate Fake News” issued on 2 April 2018 stands withdrawn,' a release by the Information & Broadcasting Ministry said.
In a press note issued on Monday, the Ministry had said that In an attempt to curb the increasing instances of fake news in various mediums including print and electronic media, the Government had amended the Guidelines for Accreditation of Journalists wherein such cases would get referred to the Press Council of India (PCI) if it pertains to print media and to News Broadcasters Association (NBA) if it relates to electronic media.
The amended guidelines stipulated that the journalist whoever created and/or propagated the fake news will, if accredited, would have the accreditation suspended till such time the determination regarding the fake news is made by the regulating agencies.
'Determination is expected to be completed within 15 days by these regulating agencies. Once the complaint is registered for determination of fake news, the correspondent/journalist whoever created and/or propagated the fake news will, if accredited, have the accreditation suspended till such time the determination regarding the fake news is made by the regulating agencies mentioned above,'the Ministry statement said.
The Ministry said that while examining the requests seeking accreditation, the regulatory agencies will examine whether the `Norms of Journalistic Conduct’ and `Code of Ethics and Broadcasting Standards’ prescribed by the PCI and NBA respectively are adhered to by the journalists as part of their functioning.
'It would be obligatory for journalists to abide by these guidelines,'the ministry said.
The guidelines by the Ministry had caused a lot of uproar among media organisations with the press organisations threatening to launch protests against the move, which thy described as attemopt to muzzle the press. UNI

New Delhi, Apr 2: BJP leader and Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha Roopa Ganguly on Monday slammed the Mamata Banerjee administration for what she said allowing "hooliganism of a particular community" in the violence-hit Asansol-Raniganj belt.
"Pathetic condition of WB administration. You allow the hooliganism of a particular community, give around 250 Hindus some shoddy shelter, no water, no toilet, another #manmadecalamity in Asansol Raniganj. Police is watching silently. Waiting for some order from some top BOSS," Ms Ganguly tweeted along with a video from the spot.
The actress-turned-politician was part of the BJP delegation that visited Asansol on Sunday.
In another missive in the micro-blogging site, the Rajya Sabha MP wrote: "Devastation @ Ambagan 
and Ramkrishnodanga in Asansol were hard to watch. So many households were burnt and looted. No arrest of culprits yet. It took long to hear and console our brothers n sisters, could not visit Raniganj for time constraints but we have not forgotten you Raniganj".
The delegation deputed by BJP chief Amit Shah comprised party national vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Om Prakash Mathur, national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, Palamu MP Vishnu Dayal Ram, besides Ms Ganguly visited some violent affected areas of Asansol.
The team would be submitting a report to the BJP national president shortly.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, Union Minister and BJP MP from Asansol Babul Supriyo referred to the recent violence in his constituency and asserted that he would not "flee" even as he has gone through his personal turmoil due to politics.
"I am not the one to flee, neither am I a quitter but yes, I did go through my own turmoil when getting introduced to the dirt of WB Politics and how singer Babul’s audience was getting divided," tweeted playback singer-turned-BJP leader. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 3: Hailing the victory of the BJP in Tripura , Union Minister for Textiles and Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stress on development of the North East has found a resonance with the people of the region.
The Minister also congratulated BJP national president Amit Shah for the win. 
In a post on her twitter handle, she said, "Unprecedented victory of @BJP4India in Tripura. PM @narendramodi ji’s emphasis on development of North East has found resonance with citizens of NER. Heartiest congratulations to our President @AmitShah ji & Team @BJP4Tripura for the massive win".
The BJP is on way to forming a government in Tripura with the party ahead in 35 seats while it’s ally IPFT was leading in at least six seats. The CPI-M was ahead in only 19 seats. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 3: The Congress on Saturday posed several questions to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, reacting to reports that her ministry has allegedly blocked the funds for paying the salaries of employees of Doordarshan and All India radio.
In a series of tweets, AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala said, 'Unbridled, Unchecked and Uncontrolled whims and anger of I and B Minister Smriti Irani is making DD/AIR employees suffer.'
Mr Surjewala questioned as to why she chose a Private firm over DD for coverage of IFFI, Goa. He also questioned payment of Rs 2.92 crore by Prasar Bharti to the said company.
He also asked as to why the Minister insisted upon filling two editorial posts with journalists whose salary is higher then what Prasar Bharti can afford. He also questioned whether one of the two journalists is her unofficial media advisor.
The AICC media in-charge questioned the Minister over transfer of 140 Group A IIS officers (out of a cadre of 500) in two months. 'Is this a punishment tool?,' he said.
Mr Surjewala also questioned the transfer of IIS Asso. President, Anindya Sengupta.
Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter, he asked,' Why is PM Modi mum?'
Reports appearing in a section of the media claimed that Ms Irani had not released any money to Prasar Bharati since December 2017, forcing the public broadcaster to depend on its contingency funds to pay the salaries of Doordarshan and All India Radio employees.
The reports appearing in the media said there have been differences between the I and B Ministry and Prasar Bharati over payments to a private firm that covered the 2017 International Film Festival of India.
As per reports, Doordarshan refused to pay Rs 2.92 crore to Mumbai-based SOL Productions Pvt Ltd, which arranged for live coverage of the festival. 
In a clarification issued on Friday, the ministry described the report as “defamatory and sinister” 
'it has come to the notice of the ministry that a deliberate, sinister, motivated campaign has been launched by some elements to wrongfully tarnish the image of the ministry of I and B by reporting that money to Prasar Bharati is not being released after December, 2017 as a retaliation for Prasar Bharati not obeying certain dictates of the ministry.
The misinformation is based on ill-will and incorrect appreciation with half-baked facts and is tantamount to causing loss of reputation of the government in public eyes,'the Ministry said in a statement issued on Friday.
In its statement, the ministry, while reiterating that the government was committed to protect interests of all Prasar Bharati employees, said Prasar Bharti is bound by the government’s General Financial Rules to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the ministry that sets times for activities to be done and utilising the money granted during that financial year.
'Fiscal prudence and accountability is the very fulcrum of functioning of any government organisation. Prasar Bharati is bound by the government’s General Financial Rules as any ministry or any organization receiving grants-in-aid from the government of India.
As per provisions of any GFR, any autonomous organisation receiving grants-in-aid from the government of India must sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the ministry, clearly bringing out physical and financial targets and setting timelines for activities to be done by utilising the money granted during that financial year. 
For the record, irrespective of repeated reminders from the ministry, no MOU has been signed by Prasar Bharati,' the statement by the ministry said. UNI

Kolkata, Feb 28: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani today said Jute diversification technologies are effective in diverse socio-economic conditions since it could be utilized to generate employment and enhance market potential of jute-based product.
Addressing the inaugural session of the 27th Technological Conference on the topic of “Shaping the Future of Jute” organized by the Indian Jute Industries’ Research Association (IJIRA) at its premises here, Ms Irani said Jute is the second most important fiber after cotton and a suitable material for eco-friendly alternative to plastics and polythene.
The Minister endorsed the views expressed by the Chairman and Director of IJIRA that jute is not a dying industry and diversification is the way forward. She also mentioned that the Ministry has already taken initiatives in rejuvenating jute with special focus on the North-East.
Underlining the importance of technology in jute industry, the Minister said that technology must be incorporated for the manufacture of jute diversified products. Commercialization of these technologies would result in establishment of individual and group ventures for manufacturing jute diversified products and increased jute consumption and rural employment, she added.
Congratulating the IJIRA for developing low cost jute based sanitary napkins, Ms Irani urged to take it forward as hygiene is fundamental to the health and well being of women and girls. She also acknowledged the roles played by the Self-help groups (SHG) in alleviating poverty in rural areas and providing employment to the women.

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 01: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga today met Union Minister for Textile Smriti Zubin Irani and discussed various developmental projects for J&K pertaining to textile sector.
During the meeting that lasted for an hour, Chander Parkash ganga briefed the Union Minister about different projects already submitted to the Central Wool Development Board relating to components /sub components of Pashmina Development Programme under PMDP at the cost of Rs. 50.00 crore.
He also informed the Union Minister of the three projects submitted by IICT under the infrastructure support Scheme of NHDP regarding up-gradation of design bank, testing lab and setting up of CFC costing Rs. 4.56 crore . He also laid stress on the setting up of Indian Institute of Handloom Technology at Jammu and also the introduction of diploma course in Handloom and Handicrafts technology.
The Minister also requested Union Minister to release Rs 5.75 crore pending final instalment of central share of the scheme distribution of 8000 modern carpets looms under Mega Carpet Cluster Scheme.
The Union Minister responded positively to the issues discussed during the meeting and gave assurance that centre would give a positive look to all projected demands/ proposal and also expedite the process of sanctioning and release of funds.

Lucknow, Nov 7: The Congress will observe ‘black day’ on the occasion of demonetisation anniversary on Wednesday in clear defiance of the model code of conduct which is in force due to the upcoming civic elections in 16 districts of the state.
A week ago, the party had announced that it would organise protest rallies across the state, but it remains to be seen how Congress will go ahead without seeking the state election commissioner’s emission. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) will celebrate the occasion and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani is expected to hold a press conference here on Wednesday. BJP spokesperson Chandramohan said on Tuesday that due to the urban local body elections, the party will not hold any function, except for the press conference. Other political parties, including the principal opposition Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, have also not made any announcement. UP Congress chief Raj Babbar said the party will observe the day as 'black day' in the entire country to highlight the ill-effects of the demonetisation. On November 8 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shook the nation by scrapping currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations.  "We will observe November 8 as a 'black day for the economy' throughout the state, and take out a candlelight march in the evening. During the day, meetings, processions and nukkad sabhas will also be held," Babbar said.  "We will also pay tribute to martyrs (balidaaniyo) of demonetisation tomorrow," he said. The Congress is also expected to send a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office demanding families who lost their members during demonetisation be paid Rs 25 lakh as compensation and the next of kin be given a job.  Babbar alleged that there were no benefits of demonetisation visible to the people. "There is unemployment, development has come to a standstill and farmers are feeling harassed," he alleged. UNI

New Delhi, Oct 21: The Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday took a fresh dig at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and wanted to know whether the Congress leader is keen to win elections in countries like Russia, Indonesia and Kazakhstan. "Perhaps @OfficeOfRG planning to sweep polls in Russia, Indonesia & Kazakhstan?? #RahulWaveInKazakh," Ms Irani tweeted while posting a story link. The media report has claimed that the recent upswing in Rahul Gandhi's social media traction may be due to bots. Twitterbot is a software which autonomously can push up a tweet or so as it can perform actions such as tweeting, retweeting, liking, following and unfollowing. The automation of Twitter accounts is governed by a set of automation rules that outline proper and improper uses of automation. The media report - the link of which has been shared by I&B Minister also claimed that these alleged 'bots' with a Russian, Kazakh or Indonesian characteristics were routinely Re-Tweeting (RT-ing) the Congress leader's tweets. "Further scrutiny of these Twitter accounts showed that the follower list was usually under 10 users and retweets comprised of random topics from across the world and those of Rahul Gandhi," it said. Ever since his return from overseas visit, the Congress vice president has been showing greater interest to the micro blogging site and there have been also greater outflow of Tweets from him. Recently, another Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar also had taken dig at Mr Gandhi and had said, "Mere indulging in politics of Tweets without working on the ground only reflects political bankruptcy". New Delhi, Jul 18:  President Pranab Mukherjee today accepted the resignation of Mr M Venkaiah Naidu from the council of ministers and assigned Ms Smriti Irani the charge of Information and Broadcasting ministry while Mr Narendra Singh Tomar was assigned the Ministry of Housing and Urban affairs. 'The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Mr M Venkaiah Naidu, from the Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution. 'Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that – Mr Narendra Singh Tomar, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, in addition to his existing portfolios; and Ms Smriti Zubin Irani, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in addition to her existing portfolio,' a Rashtrapati Bhawan communique said.
