New Delhi, Mar 16: Hours after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and AIADMK of Tamil Nadu virtually
played spoilsport to the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha on Friday, even as
the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) tried to reach out to K
Chandrashekhar Rao led TRS, the Telangana ruling party ruled out supporting any
such move.
A senior TRS leader said, while final decision on these
political issues are decided by the party chief Mr Rao, so far the decision is
"we will not support any such motion, because it is motivated by political
consideration and gimmick".
Even, the Tamil Nadu ruling party AIADMK also did not seem to
approve the idea of a no-trust motion against the Centre at this juncture.
"There were issues after the division of Andhra Pradesh.
If there were issues all these years, then why were not they raised? This shows
merely an opportunistic nature", Tamil Nadu Minister D Jayakumar said on
TDP's decision to quit NDA and move no-trust motion.
Earlier, the TDP said it does not grudge the decision of the
two Southern parties, including TRS to raise their regional issues and will
talk to them to support the no-trust motion against Narendra Modi government.
"We will talk to TRS and AIADMK leaders on the issue of
no-trust motion as we want a discussion in Parliament on how the assurance
given to the state of Andhra Pradesh was not implemented", TDP leader
Thota Narasimhan said here.
These comments from the leaders of TDP and TRS come after the
House could not take up the motion as pandemonium prevailed and the Speaker
Sumitra Mahajan said, the headcount of the supporters of the motion cannot be
done when the house is not in the order.
The No-Confidence motion in the Lok Sabha can be accepted
only if there is support of at least 50 members. The TDP has 16 Members and the
YSR congress has nine MPs in the Lok Sabha.
The developments also indicate towards bitter political
battle emerging in the Southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana where
both the Chief Ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and Mr Rao are 'Telugu speaking'
leaders and have had love-hate relationship in the past as well.
In fact, the TRS protest in Lok Sabha was led among others by
K Kavitha, daughter TRS chief, as she carried placards along with her party
colleagues and raised slogans demanding raise in reservation quota for Muslims
and for linking MGNREGA scheme to the farm sector.
The TDP leadership decision to part ways with NDA was also
seen as an attempt to retain the support base among the Muslims in Andhra
Pradesh.
Few days back Telangana Chief Minister had also spoken in
favour formation of an effective 'federal front' of regional parties and found
the idea going down well with other regional players like Mamata Banerjee of
Trinamool Congress.
Besides dealing with the TRS chief and his political
machinations, the TDP supremo Mr Naidu is also seen as acting under pressure at
times as the no-trust motion of TDP on Friday came a day after Jagan Mohan
Reddy led YSR Congress Party had moved their no-confidence motion against the
government.
As soon as the Speaker said she was duty -bound to take up
the No-Confidence Motion, several Left,
Congress, Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress members and
Asauddin Owaisi of AIMIM were up on their feet rendering support to the motion
moved by the two Andhra-based parties.
But, Ms Mahajan said the House should be in order to take up
the motion. She requested the slogan shouting AIADMK and Telengana Rashtra
Samithi members who were in the Well, to return to their seats.
As the request from the Chair did not yield desired result,
the Speaker adjourned the House till Monday. UNI
