Amaravati, Aug 5   :   Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday to clarify his governments intention behind certain contentious decisions taken in recent days.

The Chief Minister will also meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of the meeting with the Prime Minister.

This will be Jagan's second meeting with the two top Central leaders after he became the Chief Minister.

Jagan, who returned to Amaravati on Monday from a four-day pilgrimage to Jerusalem, will be flying to New Delhi by a special aircraft for a two-day trip.

He is also scheduled to call on President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on August 7, according to the itinerary released by his office.

The Chief Minister will meet several Union Ministers as well during the trip.

The Centre has strongly opposed the state's move to re-negotiate the Power Purchase Agreements, entered into with solar and wind energy generators, but the Jagan government had gone ahead with it.

The matter is now before the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Another point of friction between the state and the Centre is the formers decision to revoke the Polavaram project contract and invite fresh bids.

Union Jal Shakti Minister Shekawat expressed serious displeasure over the state's decision and said it would derail the project's progress.

Polavaram is a national project under the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, but the state has been executing it.

The Centre has to approve any change related to the project and hence the Chief Minister is expected to take this up with the Union Minister, sources in the CMO here said.

"There could be some misgivings over certain decisions, but the governments main intention is to rectify the financial irregularities in the projects.

The Chief Minister will explain this to the Centre," the sources added.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister is expected to seek enhanced Central assistance for the state to tide over the prevailing financial crisis.

The government is seeking to dovetail a lot of schemes, promised under the YSR Congress Navaratnalu programme, with the existing central sector schemes and Centrally-sponsored Schemes to lessen the financial burden on the state.

The state has prepared a list of schemes that could be dovetailed with the Central schemes to utilize accruing grants proportionately, sources said.                               [Agencies]

Amaravati, Jun 21  :   Finally, the southwest monsoon set in in Andhra Pradesh Friday, a delay of almost 20 days, and brought the much-needed respite to citizens from the scorching heat.

The Andhra Pradesh Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Research Centre (AWARE), a division of the Real Time Governance Society, said in a press release the monsoon rains hit Anantapuramu and Chittoor districts in the Rayalaseema region of the state.

The monsoon would spread across the state by Saturday.

It had been an extended summer for people this year with temperatures touching over 46 degrees Celsius Thursday as the southwest monsoon was inordinately delayed.

Very light rainfall was recorded in Raidurgam, Roddem, Tanakall of Anantapuramu district and Palamaner of Chittoor district due to the onset of the monsoon.

Rajavommangi in East Godavari district recorded the highest rainfall of 47.75 mm.

AWARE said many parts of Guntur, Prakasam, SPS Nellore and Kadapa districts would receive scattered rains while other parts would witness widespread moderate rains under the influence of the monsoon.

Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions would receive isolated heavy rains and widespread moderate rains from June 22 to 25 because of upper air circulation.

The onset of the monsoon caused a considerable dip in temperatures as mercury fell below 41 degrees Celsius at many places, AWARE said.

Almost all the automatic weather stations (AWS) recorded temperature below 40 degree Celsius at 3 pm, it added.

AWARE, however, said maximum temperature could still hover between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius over south coastal AP over the next couple of days.                             [Agencies]

Amaravati(AP), Jun 13  :  Veteran legislator Tammineni Sitaram was on Thursday unanimously elected Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Sitaram, who has been elected to the Assembly for a sixth term, currently represents Amudalavalasa constituency in Srikakulam district on behalf of the ruling YSR Congress.

Pro-Tem Speaker S V C Appalanaidu announced the election of Sitaram in the House this morning.

Leader of the House Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and other YSRC MLAs then escorted Sitaram to the Speaker's chair and congratulated him.

Telugu Desam Party Deputy Leader in the House K Atchannaidu also followed Sitaram to the Chair. However, the YSRC legislators found fault with TDP Legislature Party leader N Chandrababu Naidu for not following the tradition of escorting the new Speaker to the Chair.

Sitaram began his political career in the TDP and was elected to the Assembly in 1983, 1985, 1991, 1994 and 1999.

He served as minister in Chandrababu Naidu's cabinet, holding Excise, Information and Public Relations, Tourism and Municipal Administration portfolios.

In 2009, he joined the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) of actor Chiranjeevi but lost the election.

He returned to the TDP after the PRP was merged with the Congress in 2012 but a few months later jumped over to the YSRC.

He was unsuccessful in the 2014 election too but triumphed in the last election.

The Leader of the House, Leader of Opposition and many MLAs addressed the House congratulating Sitaram on assuming the Speaker's post.

Sitaram announced that Chandrababu Naidu, by virtue of being leader of the second largest party in the House, was recognised as Leader of the Opposition.

Amaravati, Mar 29 :  The Andhra Pradesh High Court Friday refused to stall the Election Commission of India's order, transferring two IPS officers, including the Director General of Intelligence and a non-cadre officer in the state government, and keeping them away from election duties.

The Chandrababu Naidu government was keen on retaining the controversial DG, Intelligence, A B Venkateswara Rao, whom the opposition YSR Congress has been accusing of "working like a TDP cadre".

A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Praveen Kumar and Justice Satyanarayana Murthy, ruled that there was 'no case for interim relief' in the matter and said the state government should comply with the EC order.

It rejected the government's contentions on the issue, particularly that the DG had nothing to do with the conduct of elections and that the EC had no jurisdiction over him.

The EC had late on Tuesday night issued an order to Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha, directing that the DG, Intelligence, and Superintendents of Police of Kadapa and Srikakulam districts be transferred forthwith and attached to the state police headquarters.

It said no election-related work should be assigned to the three officers till the completion of the polls. Around midnight on Tuesday, Punetha issued an order transferring the three officers in line with the directive.

The scene, however, changed on Wednesday as the Chief Secretary issued a fresh order that afternoon, cancelling his earlier one and retained the Intelligence DG to the same post while shifting the two SPs.

The EC subsequently appointed Grewal Navdeep Singh and Abhishek Mohanty as SPs of Srikakulam and Kadapa districts.

The chief secretary also got a writ petition filed in the High Court, challenging the ECI order even as Chief Minister Naidu shot off a seven-page letter to the poll panel, protesting the transfers, particularly that of the DG, Intelligence.

Naidu alleged that the election commission's action was 'prima facie hasty, biased, undemocratic and suffers from the principles of natural justice".

He claimed the EC's conduct has become "questionable" due to this "coloured decision", which is deliberately aimed at benefitting the YSR Congress "under the influence of (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, aided by (Telangana Chief Minister) K Chandrasekhar Rao".

The government issued a separate order on Wednesday, designating certain police officers from the DGP to the rank of a constable for law and order duties in connection with the April 11 elections to the Lok Sabha and state Assembly.

The DG of Intelligence has been kept away from election duties.

"The ECI cannot engage in unchecked, arbitrary and uncanalised exercise of power. The ECI order suffers from the vice of lack of jurisdiction, suffers from being a colourable exercise of power and is based on alien purposes or oblique motives which have nothing to do with the conduct of polling duties," state Political Secretary (General Administration Department) N Srikant said in the petition, filed on behalf of the chief secretary.

The High Court heard arguments in the case on Thursday.

The YSR Congress also impleaded in the case.

Advocate General D Srinivas contented that the ECI has no jurisdiction to transfer an officer not under its purview.

Former AG Prakash Reddy, counsel for the ECI, pointed out that the Intelligence DG was very much on election-related duties under Section 28-A of the Representation of People Act and that the state government issued an order in this regard.

The AG claimed the said government order was issued erroneously.

"How could the police department function without the intelligence wing?" the ECI advocate countered.

The High Court delivered its verdict on the petition on Friday, refusing to grant any relief to the state government.         [Agencies]

Amaravati(AP), Oct 3: Veteran Telugu Desam Party leader, educationist and member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council M V V S Murthy died in a road accident in the USA, the party announced here Wednesday.


He was 76. He also served as a member of Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam for two terms from 1991 to 1996 and 1999 to 2004.

Murthy and three others were killed in a car-truck collision on the highway near Alaska in the US, where he had gone to take part in the GITAM Alumni meet on October 6.

The MLC was on his way to a wildlife sanctuary when the accident occurred on Monday afternoon (US time).

Telugu Association of North America members are coordinating with the US authorities to bring the TDP leader's body back to the state.

Murthy had been an active leader of the TDP since 1983 and had a close association with the party's founder-president N T Rama Rao.

He founded the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) at Rushikonda near Visakhapatnam, which has now been granted a "deemed to-be university" status with campuses in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

He served as Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority from 1987 to 1989 and lost the 1989 Lok Sabha election.

In 1991, he was elected to Parliament from Visakhapatnam for the first time and again in 1999.

A doctorate in economics from Andhra University, Murthy established many colleges in his native East Godavari and other districts.

He also owned a soft drinks bottling plant in Visakhapatnam and became popular as 'Goldspot' Murthy.

He was elected to the Legislative Council in 2014 from the Visakhapatnam Local Authorities constituency.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his deputies K E Krishna Murthy, N China Rajappa, Council Chairman N Md Farook, Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, ministers and MPs condoled Murthy's death.

"I was shocked to learn about the death of Murthy.

His services as an MP and an MLC are memorable. His death is a deep loss to the field of education and also politics. It is a personal loss to me," Naidu said in a message.

He also expressed anguish over the death of many TDP leaders in road accidents.

Deputy Chief Minister Krishna Murthy recalled that he and Murthy were elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1991.

"I lost a good friend," he said.

Amaravati (AP), Sep 19: The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to recruit nearly 19,000 personnel to fill up existing vacant posts in various departments and the state secretariat, according to an official order.

"Based on the proposals received from all the heads of departments and the secretariat departments, the government after careful examination, hereby accord permission for direct recruitment to fill in a total 18,450 vacancies in different categories," the Andhra Pradesh government said in the order.

The state government will fill up 182 posts in Group-I category, 337 posts in Group-II, 1,670 posts in Group-III, 3,000 posts in Police Executive, 1,604 posts in medical and 1,657 other posts, it said.

That apart, about 9,275 teaching posts and 725 lecturer posts in various categories will be recruited directly from the respective recruiting agencies, it said.

All the heads of departments and the secretariat administrative departments have been asked to take necessary action in this regard, the order added. (PTI)

Amaravati (AP), Sep 14: A court in Maharashtra has issued an arrest warrant against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and 15 others in a 2010 case related to an agitation staged by them over the Babli project across the Godavari river.

Judicial Magistrate First Class of Dharmabad in Nanded district N R Gajbhiye issued the order, directing the police to arrest all the accused and produce them in the court by September 21.

Naidu and others, then in the opposition in the united Andhra Pradesh, were arrested and lodged in a Pune jail in connection with the agitation staged by them near the Babli project site in Maharashtra, opposing it on the ground that it would affect the people downstream.

All of them were released later, though they had not sought bail.

The court order, dated July 5 and supposed to be executed by August 16 but corrected to September 21, was issued on a petition filed by a Maharashtra resident.

Besides Naidu, state Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Social Welfare Minister N Anand Babu and former MLA G Kamalakar (who subsequently joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi) were among the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers booked in the case.

They have been charged with offences under the Indian Penal Code, including assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, act endangering life or personal safety of others, criminal intimidation among others.

Naidu was the leader of opposition in the united Andhra Pradesh then and the case has been pending trial all these years.

Reacting to the news about the court order, Naidu's son and state Information Technology Minister N Lokesh said his father and the other TDP leaders would appear in court.

"He (Naidu) fought to protect the interests of Telangana. He even refused to seek bail when he was arrested," Lokesh said.

The chief minister is currently camping in Tirumala, near Tirupati, attending the annual Brahmotsavam of the Lord Venkateswara temple there. (PTI)

Amaravati, Sept 10 : After poll-bound Rajasthan, the Andhra Pradesh government Monday announced a Rs 2 cut in VAT on petrol and diesel to check the mounting prices of these fuels.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the reduction in Value Added Tax in the state assembly. He said the state government was currently levying Rs 4 per litre VAT on petrol and diesel.

"The central government has been imposing a heavy burden on people by steeply increasing the prices of petrol and diesel despite heavy income in the form of various levies and dividends.

"Though the state is faced with a deficit budget, we have decided to reduce the tax and ease the burden on people," he said.

The state would have to forego a revenue of Rs 1,120 crore due to the measure, he said.

A day before the opposition-sponsored Bharat Bandh against rising fuel prices, poll-bound Rajasthan had on Sunday slashed the VAT on petrol and diesel.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced a 4 per cent reduction which brought the prices of the two commodities down by Rs 2.5 per litre.PTI

New Delhi, Aug 9: Lok Sabha proceedings were today adjourned briefly following protests by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) members.

TRS members were demanding allocation of defence land in the state for certain projects, similar to that given in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

During the Question Hour, the members walked into the Well shouting slogans.

Amid the din, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for five minutes.

After the House resumed, TRS members had gone back to their seats. (PTI)

Washington, Jul 31: A US trade development agency today signed a memorandum of understanding with an Indian private company for the development of a 41-MW hybrid wind, solar, and energy storage power plant in Andhra Pradesh.

The MoU was signed between US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and private sector firm IL&FS Energy Development Company Limited (IEDCL) on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific Business Forum hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce, where US Cabinet secretaries and senior leaders from government and business discussed potential areas of collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.

IEDCL has selected Black & Veatch, a Kansas-based engineering firm, to carry out the technical assistance for the project that will advance pre-implementation and pre-construction activities for the plant, which is expected to lead to a 1,040 MW installation, a media release said.

This project is a follow-on to previous USTDA support that assessed the technical, financial and commercial viability of wind, solar, and energy storage hybrid power projects in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

Following the completion of that analysis, IEDCL and the government of Andhra Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the 1,040 MW project.

USTDA Director, Congressional and Public Affairs, Thomas Hardy and IEDCL Chief Operating Officer, Keshav Prasad participated in the signing ceremony.

We appreciate the opportunity to support India's energy infrastructure goals, said Hardy, while at the same time, creating new opportunities and market access for US industry.

Grid modernisation through hybrid projects like this one will help promote sustainable economic growth in India, and support the government's goal of reaching 175 GW of capacity from renewable sources by 2022, said Jason Abiecunas, Black & Veatch's Director of Distributed Energy Resources.

Hybrid solutions, by optimising output and reducing variability, will also improve the bankability of renewable energy projects, he said. (PTI)

New Delhi, Jul 23: The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today forced a pre-noon adjournment of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha after its members trooped into the well of the House over their demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh.

TDP members led by their leaders Y S Chowdary and C M Ramesh were up on their feet as soon as listed papers were laid on the table of the House.

Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said their notice has been converted into a short duration discussion which would be taken up tomorrow.

He then got two zero hour mentions -- minimum support price (MSP) for paddy raised by Vijila Sathyanath of the AIADMK and alleged misuse of investigating agencies by the government to settle political vendetta by Anand Sharma of Congress -- made before TDP members rushed into the well of the House.

Naidu said he was willing for a discussion on the issue last week itself but TDP leaders wanted it to be slated for Monday and yesterday they sought its listing on July 24.

"I have admitted the notice under rule 176," he said.

Rule 176 allows a short duration discussion to be raised by a member on a matter of urgent public importance.

But the TDP members were unrelenting.

"Please don't do injustice to other members," Naidu said, adding he has admitted 15 zero hour notices which should be taken up. "I am ready for discussion."

He asked members to return to their places but TDP members were unrelenting.

There also was a minor verbal clash between opposition Congress and treasury benches on Anand Sharma's zero hour mention of parallel FIRs on the same alleged offence being registered by the CBI, the DRI and the ED in "targeted vendetta".

While treasury benches said Congress was trying to "demoralise" investigating agencies, opposition members saw them being "abused" by the government.

Naidu's repeated pleas to members to return to their seats went heeded, forcing him to adjourn the proceedings till 1200 hours.

But before doing so he remarked that it seems that members do not want the House to function. (PTI)

Mumbai, Jul 20: The Shiv Sena will abstain from voting on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha moved by the Opposition against the Modi government, party sources said today.

Yesterday, the Sena's chief whip in the Lok Sabha Chandrakant Khaire issued a whip to MPs asking them to be present in the House when the motion was discussed and support the government.

Hours after issuing the whip, the Sena shifted its stance and said party chief Uddhav Thackeray had asked his party MPs to remain in Delhi and a final decision on supporting the Modi government would be taken this morning before the debate started.

"Sena MPs have been asked to remain absent by Uddhav ji during the voting on the no-confidence motion," a close aide of the Sena chief told.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had sought the support of other parties for the motion, citing the NDA government's "non-fulfilment of the promise" to grant special status to his state. (PTI)

Amaravati(AP), Jul 7: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today left for Singapore on a three-day visit to attend the World Cities Summit beginning tomorrow.

The main objective of the Chief Minister's trip is to showcase the state's upcoming capital city Amaravati as the best investment destination and attract top companies to set up shop here, an official in the CMO said.

The chief minister will take part in the WCS Mayors' Forum on the topic "Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Embracing the Future through Innovation and Collaboration" on July 8 and the plenary session the next day.

The state government is setting up a pavilion to showcase Amaravati while the chief minister will discuss with various international organisations and delegates on developing smart cities in the state.

Separately, Naidu will also hold talks with ministers of the Singapore government on enlarging Andhra Pradesh's partnership with the city-state.

Already, Andhra Pradesh and Singapore are partnering in the development of Amaravati.

Ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, P Narayana and several bureaucrats are accompanying the chief minister on the trip. (PTI)

Washington, Jul 3: A 32-year-old Indian software engineer has died after jumping from the rocks of the popular Elk River Falls in the US state of North Carolina, authorities said, marking the second drowning in the river in six weeks.

Gogineni Nagarjuna, jumped off a rock close to the bottom of the falls and was pulled under by the strong pool currents. He never resurfaced, Assistant Fire Marshall Paul Buchanan was quoted as saying by the the Avery Journal.

Nagarjuna of Charlotte, was swimming with friends at the base of the falls after jumping in from the side on Sunday, according to a statement from Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye.

Nagarjuna, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, struggled, went under and did not resurface. His body was recovered two hours later and taken to the medical examiner's office in Lenoir, the statement said.

The death was the second at the Elk River Falls in six weeks.

On May 20, 26-year-old Thomas McCardle of Ohio, slid off a rock, was caught and dragged under by strong currents driven by heavy rains.

The falls also have a history of being dangerous. Multiple serious injuries and deaths have occurred at the site through the years.

Signage around the falls discourages thrill seekers from jumping from or swimming near the falls, as rocks and strong currents are potentially fatal hazards, the journal said.

The sheriff's release noted that jumping from the rocks above the falls has been the primary cause of death or serious injury at the falls in the past, but the two most-recent deaths have been a result of swimming incidents. (PTI)

Amaravati, Jun 30: Ram Prawesh Thakur took charge as Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) of Andhra Pradesh.

He succeeds M Malakondaiah, who retired from service on attaining the age of superannuation.

Prior to becoming the DGP, Thakur, an IPS officer of 1986 batch, was Director General of Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Chief Secretary (in-charge) Anil Chandra Punetha issued an order appointing Thakur as DGP this morning, putting an end to speculation that another officer of the 1986 batch Gautam Damodar Sawang was set to become the police chief.

A four-member selection panel, headed by the Chief Secretary, shortlisted five DG-rank officers for the post of DGP (HoPF) in accordance with the amended AP Police Reforms Act that vested the power with the state government to choose the DGP.

Accordingly, the Chief Minister selected Thakur, overlooking the 1986 batch topper Varun Sindhu Kul Kaumudi.

Kaumudi is currently on deputation with the central government, serving as CRPF Additional DG in Jammu. (PTI)

Amaravati(AP), Jun 21: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today said everyone should practice yoga for a complete and healthy life free from stress.
"Yoga is a great tool to keep the mind under control.
Five minutes of yoga will relieve one of any kind of stress," the Chief Minister said at a function here to mark the International Day of Yoga.
Noting that yoga was our "valuable heritage," Naidu said it should become part of everyone's life.
Yoga and meditation would help humans lead a complete life, he added.
The Chief Minister, who is a regular practitioner of yoga, performed various 'asanas' along with some college students on the occasion.

Gwalior, May 21: Three coaches of 22416 Andhra Pradesh SF Express caught fire at Birlanagar station near Gwalior on Monday morning.
However, No casualty was reported in the incident.
According to Railway officials, at around 1150 hrs, while the train was travelling through Birlanagar station, fire was observed in B5 coach which spread to B-6 and B-7.
The first six coaches of the affected train was segregated and sent towards Gwalior. An inqury into the incident has been ordered, official said.
All passengers were evacuated from the affected coaches and three fire tenders pressed into service. The fire was brought under control, officials added.

New Delhi, May 14 : As many as 80 deaths were reported as thunderstorm and lightning lashed five states during the intervening night of May 13 and 14, leaving 136 people injured, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said here on Monday.
“As per the information received so far by the MHA, the state of Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of casualties -- 51 people killed and over 123 others injured in the various districts of the state,” Home Ministry officials said.
Thunderstorms claimed 14 lives in West Bengal while 12 weather-related deaths were reported from Andhra Pradesh, two in Delhi and one in Uttarakhand.

There were reports of 11 people injured in Delhi and two in Uttarakhand.
A total of 121 houses were damaged in Sunday's hailstorm, which also left 19 animals dead so far, the official added.UNI

New Delhi, Apr 4: Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is in the national capital for a two-day visit.
Mr Naidu’s meeting with Mr Kejriwal was held at the Andhra Bhavan, where the former is staying, the Chief Minister's office stated.
On his first visit, after his party, Telugu Desam Party, quit from the Union Cabinet and the BJP-led NDA, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister on Tuesday visited Parliament and met several opposition leaders and BJP allies.
The TDP supremo met opposition leaders, including NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Congress’ Veerappa Moily and Jyotiraditya Scindia, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandhopadyay and Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Tuesday.
Mr Naidu also met BJP allies like Apna Dal’s leader and Minister in Modi government Anupriya Patel, Akali Dal leader and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Rawat.
Mr Naidu's meeting was to seek support for the No-Confidence Motion, moved by the TDP against the Modi government.
Mr Naidu will address the media at 1500 hrs later in the day, when he is expected to announce his future plans. 
The southern party had sharply criticised the Narendra Modi government after the Centre refused to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh. UNI

Vijayawada, Mar 31: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation stone for the construction of bus body building unit of the automobile giant Ashok Leyland at Mallapalli village of Bapulapadu mandal in Krishna district on Saturday.
The Ashok Leyland is establishing the bus body building unit at a cost of Rs.135 crore in 75 acres of land with a capacity of 4,800 bus building. The plant would generate 2,300 employment directly or indirectly in the area. 
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Andhra Pradesh is becoming an automobile hub. The Ashok Leyland is establishing its 8th plant in Krishna district and importance would be given to locals in providing employment. 
Mr Naidu said that Kia motors of South Korea is establishing its car making unit in Anantapur district and Isuzu was also establishing its plant in the state. 
The Chief Minister informed that over 800 firms would be established at Mallapalli industrial area in the coming days. Mr.Naidu said that the farmers in the area had parted with 1,160 acres of their lands for the establishment of industrial hub. 
Ashok Leyland Chairman Deeraj G Hinduja said that they are proud to establish their bus body building unit in the state. Ashok Leyland CEO Vinod K Dasari said that by six months the plant would start manufacturing buses. UNI
