JAMMU, Mar 8:  ‘Meri Pehchan’, an exclusive club for women, launched by Sandhya Gupta, a leading personality of Jammu, today celebrated Women’s Day at Amar Singh Club here. It was attended by women from various fields.
Meenu Mahajan, Mrs. India Exquisite 2018 and a National award winner, was the Chief Guest who was welcomed and honoured by the Founder and Chief Patron, Women’s Club ‘Meri Pehchan’, Sandhya Gupta.
Highlighting the main motive behind the launching for club, Sandhya said “The Women Club ‘Meri Pehchaan’ was launched with the sole motive of encouraging the working women and bringing out their hidden talent as women are the real architects of the society.”
“Meri Pehchan believes that Women’s Day should be celebrated everyday and not just one day and also to empower the women,” she added.
“I will try to bring out hidden talent of the common women to give them an opportunity to cherish womanhood and feel elated”, she asserted.
The Chief Guest appreciated the endeavour and asked the women folk for working together towards standing tall against all odds.
She described women’s status as most revered and respectful in the society, saying that woman is a mother, a sister, a wife and a daughter and every relation is wonderful and makes the society most beautiful.
She said that it is important for the progress of nation that women are empowered and encouraged in every sphere of life.
She said that the motive of commemoration of this Women’s Day is to give respect and appreciation besides paying tribute to indomitable spirit of women for their social, economical, and political contribution.
She further said that women have a vital role to play in transforming society and time has come when there should be an awakening among women regarding their rights and contribution.
She appealed the masses that women should be respected and given their due place, respectability and honour.
She called upon the women folk to actively involve themselves in the matters related to community development and social upliftment.
The event then followed by honouring five women achievers of J&K, Sujata Anand (President of WOW, first ever women wing of Chamber of Commerce), Urja Singh (Chairperson of the Performers NGO and State President of J&K Betiya Foundation), Medha Arora (Miss Tourism Eva India, 2017), Arti Sharma Arora (Mrs. India Exquisite 2017 runners up ) and Dr. Rinku ( Director, Cynosure Prep School).
Sandhya Gupta said that the idea is to encourage and motivate each and every woman or girl to reach for her dreams and believe in them.

Jammu, March 08: To mark the importance of women’s role in the society, J&K BJP State Mahila Morcha organized a marathon on the eve of International Women’s Day. The marathon named as “Ek Daud Nay Dour Ki Aur (A run towards new era)”
BJP State President & MLA Sat Sharma, State General Secretary(Org.) Ashok Kaul, State Vice-President Rajni Sethi,  MoS Priya Sethi, MLA Rajesh Gupta, BJP State Mahila Morcha President Purnima Sharma graced the occasion.
While addressing the participants, Sat Sharma congratulated women for their role in building new India. He said that women form fifty percent of the population so their role can never be underestimated. He prompted them to come forward and take a lead in every sphere.
Ashok Kaul appreciated Mahila Morcha for conducting this half marathon and also congratulated them for their appreciable role in the society.
Priya Sethi emphasized on the specific state and centre government schemes which have a specific objective of promoting women’s Health, Education.
Purnima Sharma voiced her concern against any type of violence, gender bias and un equal treatment of any kind to the women.
Rajesh Gupta appreciated Mahila Morcha for doing very well for women welfare and for party.
Mahila Morcha also announced awards for Dr. Mehak National Awardee Younger Scientists Palwi, Vandana, Palak Mohali National General.

Jammu, March 08: On International Women's Day, Nami Dogri Sanstha Jammu (NDS) conferred Sanstha Sammaan Award to Mrs. Shakuntla Joshi an eminent educationist, social worker & President Gandhi Global Family Mahilla Wing. Mrs. Shakuntla Joshi is the daughter of former M.L.A, Late. Sh. Ram Chand Khajuria from Billawar. 
Capt. Lalit Sharma I.F.S, Convenor Nami Dogri Sanstha while highlighting Mrs. Shakuntla Joshi's  contribution towards the society said that she took the family tradition forward by starting an educational institution propagating Gandhian philosophy & the spirit of nationalism in students. She remained associated with Didi Nirmala Desh Pandey a great Gandhian & social worker. Mrs. Shakuntla Joshi was part of the Peace delegation to Pakistan in 1999. A proud daughter of Duggar, she is a role model for many progressive & promising women folk.

New Delhi, Mar 8: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday said women empowerment wasthe need of the hour and also a challenge in front of the world community.
Ms Mahajan extended her wishes to all members of Lok Sabha on International Women's Day. 
In a reference in the House on the occasion, Ms Mahajan said the theme of this year's International Women's Day is 'Time is now: Rural and Urban activists transforming women's lives.'
The Speaker said it was essential that both women and men were equally empowered.

New Delhi, Mar 8: After a Zero Hour discussion to laud the contribution of women on the occasion of International Women's Day, the Rajya Sabha on Thursday again witnessed uproar on various issues.
They included the Cauvery issue and the demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
Proceedings were adjourned till 1400 hours.
As soon as the Council of States concluded a discussion to laud the contribution of women on international women's day, members of the Telugu Desam Party and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham were on their feet.
The members raked up uproar on the Cauvery issue and the granting of special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
Amidst the pandemonium, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the proceedings till 1400 hours.
It was the fourth consecutive day after the resumption of Budget Session that the proceedings of the House had been disrupted. UNI

New Delhi, Mar 8: Expressing concern over violence and crime against women, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday said that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the entire nation should resolve to change the mindset against women.
Concluding the discussion in the Rajya Sabha to laud the role of women in society on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Ms Swaraj, while making a pitch for the enactment of the Women’s Bill, however, noted that women in India have developed even without reservation.
'I have always been supportive of the passage of the women’s reservation Bill. However, I would like to say that women have developed even without reservation. We have had a woman President, Prime Minister, Speaker and women Chief Ministers in the country. Also, women in India have headed major parties,' Ms Mahajan observed.
Ms Swaraj referred in this regard to bike stunts performed by women Border Security Force personnel during the Republic Day parade this year. She observed,'bike stunts were men's forte until January 26 this year, when 161 women personnel of the BSF performed stunts at the Republic Day parade.’’
The Minister said that while the nation was elated at these developments, it was shameful to come across the atrocities against women.
‘’It is time to take a vow that the mindset against women should change. This should be taken forward as a movement and a campaign,’’ she said.
On the occasion, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Goel said,'People are asking what is the point of observing just one day as Women's Day. This day is to reassure that the world is committed to them.’’

New Delhi, Mar 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the women folk in the country on the occasion of International Women's Day.
In a tweet, Mr Modi emphasised on the need for leading the nation "from women development to women-led development". 
In her missive on the micro blogging site, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj wrote: "My heartiest greetings and good wishes on the International Women's day".
In her tweet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani said this is a day "to recount every journey undertaken to fulfill dreams, a day to celebrate achievements big and small; to say thank you to all the trailblazers".

New Delhi, Mar 8: There was no let up in acrimonious protests in the Lok Sabha for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday as uproarious scenes and members entering into the well of the House forced the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the proceedings till noon. 
As soon as the Speaker read out her brief message on the occasion of International Women's Day, members from Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), Trinamool Congress and others rushed to the well raising anti-government slogans.
Members from AIADMK demanded setting up of Cauvery Water Management Board while Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs raised slogans demanding actions and satisfactory response from the government on the banking scams in which diamond merchant Nirav Modi was allegedly allowed to flee India. 
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members carried placards demanding Special Category status for Andhra Pradesh.
In her brief message, Ms Mahajan greeted the women in the India and across the world on the occasion of International Women's Day.
She also read out a few lines penned by herself as tribute to the inherent strength of Indian womanhood and said: "Nahi woh kisi ki shatru ya ari; woh hae Bharat ki naari (Someone who does not have any enemy and loves and cares for all is the Indian woman)".
She also said it is high time Indian women stop thinking about themselves as "abla (helpless) and should march on forward with their zeal and respect for culture and tradition.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government is ready for discussion the banking scams under Rule 193 after the Question Hour.
However, as the listed questions could not be taken up, the Speaker adjourned proceedings till 1200 hrs. UNI

JAMMU, MARCH 03: A cultural programme hosted by Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, on the occasion of Women’s Day was held in the lawns of Raj Bhavan today. It was attended by women Legislators, officers and wives of Civil, Police, Judicial and Military officers.
The attractive programme, organized by Radio Kashmir- Jammu and Doordarshan Kendra, included enthralling musical performances presented by singers from within and outside the State. The performances included folk songs in Dogri; Urdu and Kashmiri Ghazals; semi Classical and Sufi songs.
 The programme was designed by Ms. Anjali Sharma, Director Radio Kashmir-Jammu and anchored by Ms. Madhavi Sharma, Senior Announcer Radio Kashmir-Jammu.
The performing artists included Ms. Anuradha Kuber, Ustad Sakhawat Hussain Khan, Ms. Zulekha Fareed, Sh. Dhananjay Koul, Sh. Samual Masih, Ms. Kusha Sharma, Ms. Chinmai Sharma, Ms. Sonali Dogra and Ms. Asha Keser.
