Kolkata, Oct 3: The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the probe into Tuesday's explosion in Nagerbazar area of the city that left a boy dead and nine others injured, an official of the agency said Wednesday.

The Barrackpore Police has already registered a suo motu case against unknown persons in connection with the case.

"We have taken over the investigations into the Dum Dum Nagerbazar explosion case. Our officers will soon reach the spot to carry out the probe," DIG, CID (Operations) Nishant Pervez told.

Samples have been collected from the spot and forensic tests are being conducted to ascertain what type of material was used in the blast in Nagerbazar.

An officer of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate told, "We have started a suo motu case against unknown persons in this case. Strict action will be taken as per law against those found guilty."

"CCTV footage from neighbouring shops as well as those from the traffic police are being checked. Locals of the neighbourhood have also been asked to come over for a round of questioning for our probe," the police official said.

Inputs from locals could be vital and help in identifying those behind the blast, the police officer said.

Asked if the explosion could have been a fallout of internal squabbles in the ruling Trinamool Congress, as has been alleged by the BJP, the police officer said it is difficult to infer such things at this stage since no arrests have been made so far.

"We have not been able to identify anybody responsible for this mishap. And it is very difficult to say whether he belongs to any particular political outfit or not. Our investigation is at a very early stage and nothing conclusive can be drawn now," the officer said.

Police have described Tuesday's blast as a low-intensity one that occurred outside a fruit shop on the ground floor of a building which houses the office of South Dum Dum Municipality chairman and Trinamool Congress leader Panchu Roy.

The ruling party has held the BJP responsible for the blast and alleged that it was targeted at Roy. (PTI)

Listen to scores of delegations with their demands, issues; Assures speedy redressal of grievances
SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 24: Continuing the public outreach programme, Advisor K Vijay Kumar accompanied by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam today listened to public grievances at Srinagar and Budgam.
The public delegations apprised them of the developmental needs of their respective areas and sought early redressal.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, DIG Central Kashmir V K Birdi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Abid Rashid and Deputy Commissioner Budgam, DR Sehrish Asgar were also present during these separate public hearings.
At Budgam, various deputations and public delegations met the Advisor and raised their demands particularly regarding augmentation of electricity and potable water facilities, up-gradation of schools, macadamization of roads, enhancement of developmental funds, development of playgrounds, indoor stadiums and establishment of fruit mandi in various areas of the district.
Demanding widening of Humhama-Budgam Road, Budgam Development Forum said that work on the said project should be started at the earliest. They also demanded increase in Muharram funds, construction of indoor stadium and new Building for District Hospital Budgam, Bus Service for Girls up to GDC Budgam.
A delegation of Bemina Development & Welfare Forum requested for up-gradation of Goripora High School, robust drainage system at Khumaini Chowk, construction of Community Hall, Public Park and Playground, Sumo service between Budgam-Srinagar through Bemina route and segregation of power feeder for Khumaini Chowk.
Other delegations which met the Advisor included Ring Road Association, Numberdar Association, Samaj Sudhar Committee Humhama and various delegations from Chadoora, Chrar-e-Shareef, Khansaheb, Beerwah and Budgam who demanded uninterrupted electricity and water supply, setting of health centers and up-gradation of schools in their areas.
The Advisor also met students and youth delegations who raised their demands mainly of better sports related infrastructural facilities at their schools and other areas in Budgam.
After listening to the grievances, the Advisor asked the district administration headed by DC Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar to look into the issues/demands raised and act accordingly. He passed on spot directions to the concerned to ensure redressal of issues on priority.
He directed officers to ensure completion of pending developmental projects in time, prompt delivery of public services and speedy redressal of all public grievances.

From Handicraft/Handloom sector, number of delegations of artisans including Kashmir Carpet Manufacturers, Kashmir Pashmina Karigar Union, Handmade Copper Engravers Association, State/National Shilpguru Master Craftsman Association and representatives of various Handloom Cooperative Societies dealing in Pashmina, Kani Shawl & Raffal brought their demands and issues in the notice of government and requested for their early resolution.
On the occasion, various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM) interacted with the Advisor and Chief Secretary and informed them about their activities and sought help from the government for further expanding their activity area. They asked for providing marketing centres and dedicated stalls for selling of their products.
The delegation of Shehr-e-Khaas Traders Association raised issues pertaining to the development of the area. They asked for establishment of Primary Health Centre, New Fire Station and other developmental needs of the area.
Members of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) Srinagar also presented their demands including renovation, up-gradation works at Gurudwara Sahib at Lal Chowk damaged during floods. They also discussed various other issues for the development of religious places located in Kashmir as well as their community members.
A delegation comprising members of Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti and Zeethyar Temple put forth several issues including adequate security arrangements, maintenance and development of shrines/temples.
A group of delegation from Naqshbandh Sahib, Dastgeer Sahib, Makhdoom Sahib, Hazratbal Shrine and Khanqa-e-Moula met the Advisor and requested for development of these shrines and execution of up-gradation works here.
A group of youth from Old City Srinagar met the Advisor and requested for providing some self-employment opportunities ensuring their bright future.
A delegation of Walnut Artisans called for slashing down the GST rate on Walnut products from 18 % to 5 %, insurance cover for the Walnut artisans, government support in online selling of products etc.
The delegation from Nandpora, Dal including of Shikara & Houseboat Owner Association requested for conservation of Dal Lake, proper rehabilitation plan for Dal dwellers etc. Chief Secretary while speaking to the members informed that the government is working on a proper rehabilitation plan for the people residing in Dal and effective Dal conservation plan is under execution.
The members of Paper-Machie Association urged the government for revival of this old traditional art and plan for promotion of Paper-Machie products.
A delegation of Award-Winning Artisans also met the Advisor and put-forth their demands for resolution.
          Meanwhile other delegations including Traders Association of Batamaloo, United Quarry Association, Masjid Committee Eidgah, Masjid Committee, New Colony Eidgah and few others also interacted with the Advisor and requested for resolution of their concerns and demands.
Assuring the delegations after giving them patient hearing, the Advisor said that all issues that have come to notice during the interaction have been noted and will be looked into seriously for their resolution. He asked the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for speedy redressal of all public grievances and looking into the issues which were raised by the delegations during the interaction.
All the genuine issues/demands of the people must be resolved in timely manner, the Advisor said adding that the people coming to the district administration with their concerns must be listened to and resolved accordingly. The developmental works already been initiated needs to be completed in given timeframe which automatically would lessen the public grievances.
During the public interaction, Chief Secretary passed on spot instructions to the Deputy Commissioner and said that within his permissible limit whatever is possible should be done at the earliest. There are certain demands/issues that can be resolved at DC level and rest of the concerns would be taken up with the concerned departments, CS added.

Aizawl, Sep 15: Over 1,000 non-tribal people have been arrested across Mizoram since Thursday for alleged violation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) rules, a senior police officer said.

The arrested people were living in the state either without valid Inner Line Permit (ILP) or abusing the permits, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police L Khiangte said on Saturday.

The arrested people have been lodged in separate police stations in the state.

The DIG said the crackdown on ILP violators was launched following the publication of final draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam, where about 40 lakh people were excluded from the list. (PTI)

Malkangiri (Odisha), Aug 17: A woman Maoist, who carried a reward of Rs one lakh on her head, has surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district, the police said today.

Nayana Khilo (19) of Sanyasiguda village surrendered before Malkangigi SP Jagmohan Meena and BSF DIG Virendra Singh last evening, a police official said.

Nayana had joined the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in 2016 and worked in Gumma area under Malkangiri division of the outfit, Meena said.

She was on the wanted list of police for her alleged involvement in at least four offensives, the SP said adding the woman would be rehabilitated according to the surrender policy of the state government.

The woman decided to give up arms and return to the mainstream as she realised the futility of the violent approach of the Maoists, he said.

She will also get financial assistance for building house, studies and training in a trade or a vocation of her liking, he said. (PTI)

Reviews prisoners’ rehabilitation programmes
SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: Director General Prisons, Dilbag Singh, today convened a meeting of Multi Agency Committee to review the progress of prisoners rehabilitation programme underway in state prisons.
The DGP complimented the officers from Technical Education, Director School Education Kashmir, Director Social Welfare Department, Women Development Corporation, Health Department for rendering their services for running awareness, educational and skill development and rehabilitation programmes for the inmates of various Jails in the State.
It was noted with satisfaction that a large number of prisoners throughout the state have been benefitted from Adult Education, Computer Education, Beautician Course, Electrification and House Wiring and Jute Bag making schemes. The courses have improved their awareness and skill level.
Dilbag Singh said that these skills would help the prisoners re-integrate and rehabilitate in the society in a fruitful manner; earning respectable status and livelihood after their release from the Jail. It was also revealed that with these skill development trainings, the abilities of the prisoner within the jail for various works assigned to them have improved and brought them better dividend and earnings for their family.
The members discussed newer skill development and rehabilitation schemes like fashion designing, Food processing including packaging and preservation, Fulkari, Paper Machie and Automobile- Motor Mechanic courses. These courses will be launched in various jails soon. The meeting also discussed the issue of enhancement of the wages given to prisoners to which it was decided that the issue will be taken up with higher officials so that prisoners could help their families by earning fair wages.
The members expressed satisfaction that these programmes also help in checking the menace of radicalization to a considerable extent.
The meeting was attended by DIG Prisons Mohd Sultan Lone, Director Technical Education, Anoo Malhotra, Dy Director Information Department Rakesh Dubey,   Assistant Director Social Welfare Department Dr. Najeeb Latief, representatives of Director School Education Kashmir and Psychiatric Hospital Srinagar.
Superintendent District Jail Jammu, Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar, Superintendent, District Jail Udhampur, Superintendent District Jail Kathua, Superintendent District Jail Baramulla, Superintendent Spl. Jail Pulwama, Superintendent District Jail Anantnag,   Superintendent District Jail Kupwara and Staff Officer to DGP Prisons participated in the meeting as special invitees to share their feedback in the meeting.

Stresses on promotion of sports, cultural activities
JAMMU, AUGUST 03: Acting on the directions of Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma today constituted District Level Task Force (DLTF) to oversee the youth engagement program.
The District Level Task Force shall be headed by the concerned District Development Commissioner, while officers of Youth Services and Sports, State Sports Council, Department of Education, Rural Development Department, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Police, CRPF, BSF and Army and other concerned will be its members, Div Com said here while chairing a high level meeting.
The meeting was attended by IGP S. D. Singh Jamwal, DIG BSF, Rajeev Sinha DIG, CRPF, Nitu Bhattacharya, DG RDD Rehana Batul, SP City north Vinod Kumar, PO School Education, JD youth services and sports Jammu Madan Lal, District youth coordinator NYK Somdatt, Additional Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr. Arvinder Singh. The DC of Jammu division attended the meeting through video conference.
The Div Com said that the District Level Task Force will act as a bridge between various local sports organizations and clubs. “This will help in roping in maximum youth and streamlining the sports activities which are otherwise being separately held by different organizations.
He asked the DCs to identify state land for developing sports infrastructure as also stressed on starting skill development courses to promote employability among them.
For effective results, the Div Com asked the DCs to form  core groups for sports activities which will act as single platform for formulating comprehensive, holistic and integrated district-level sports activity plan and yearly calendar.   
Meanwhile, representatives of youth services and sports department suggested for organizing sports melas, Rural Sports Mela to motivate and encourage maximum number of youth to participate in the sports activities. They also underlined the need to revive traditional Games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho through DLTF.
Additional Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages said the Academy can contribute by organizing District and Rural level mela, painting, singing and dance competitions to engage youth in cultural activities.
Underlining the need for widening the outreach to every nook and corner of the district, the Div Com  asked the district administration to contact sports icons, retired sports persons, Nehru Yuva Kendra and use innovative  ideas to motivate youth towards sports and other co curricular activities.

Chief Secy asks for focusing on key areas to achieve targets in time 
PULWAMA, AUGUST 03: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar on Thursday visited Pulwama to assess the developmental scenario and overall law & order and in the district. During the visit, the Advisor convened separate meetings with district and police officers to review the present development and security situation in the district.
Chief Secretary BVR Subhramanyam, DGP Dr S P Vaid, IGP Kashmir S P Pani, DIG (SKR) Amit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama G M Dar, SSP Pulwama Mohd Aslam and other senior civil and police officers attended the meeting.
DC Pulwama while making a detailed presentation regarding developmental profile of the district informed the meeting that various initiatives have been taken by the district administration to develop key sectors including horticulture, agriculture, education, health and others. He also briefed the meeting about the physical and financial achievements registered in the current fiscal till date.
For further carrying forward the developmental process in the district and to provide better amenities to the people, the Deputy Commissioner put forth various issues which need intervention of the government including release of additional funding in key areas.
Addressing the officers, the Advisor appreciated the efforts of the district administration despite of different kind of challenges they are facing while performing their duties. He said the district has huge scope in horticulture and agriculture sector and every effort need to be taken to get the maximum benefits out of it.
Asking for ensuring prompt delivery of services to people, the Advisor stressed for being more responsive towards people of the district and to address the people’s grievance properly. Quality and timely services need to be maintained for the people, he added.
Only development can bring the change in the society and for that we all have to play a major role in changing the socio-economic condition of the people, K Vijay Kumar said. He asked the officers to take along the public representatives while taking any developmental initiatives for the people.
With regard to upcoming Panchayat polls in the state, the Advisor asked the officers for getting prepared in holding the polls and to ensure maximum participation of people in the system. Panchayat elections will revive the institutions of local self-governance, resulting in their inclusion in the development process at the grassroots level, he added.
Speaking to the officers, Chief Secretary said that the district is leading in every sector but still lot more needs to be done. He said that focused attention should be accorded to complete the ongoing works in given time frame.
The district has done good job under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and in declaring the district ODF but steps needs to be taken for ensuring its sustainability.
CS stressed for completing the targets for providing electricity in every household before the commencement of New Year. He said that the targets given under PMAY, UJJWALA and other important CSSs must be completed according special attention to them.
Chief Secretary also asked the Deputy Commissioner to come with the inputs if any to further develop agriculture and horticulture sector in the district.
Earlier, the Advisor held a meeting with senior police officers to discuss the overall law & order scenario in the district. IGP Kashmir briefed the Advisor and Chief Secretary about the prevailing security situation and steps taken to have better police-public relations.
Action Plan of the district police for the engagement of local youth in sports and other activities was discussed briefly. It was felt that more and more activities need to be organized on regular basis for the youth involvement.
The Advisor said that the sense of security among the people is very essential for the development process and expressed satisfaction that the security personnel were doing their best despite facing several challenges while performing their duties.
Later, at the district headquarters a delegation of Fruit Growers Association met the Advisor and put forth various demands for the development of horticulture sector in the district. They also demanded government’s intervention in few other issues important for the overall development of the district.

Calls for expediting key projects to meet targets
BARAMULLA, JULY 16: Chief Secretary, B V R Subrahmanyam visited Baramulla   last evening to review the developmental scenario and progress on implementation of various projects in key sectors under the centrally sponsored "Aspirational Districts" programme. 
He was accompanied by the Principal Secretary Planning, Development & Monitoring, Rohit Kansal.
The Chief Secretary took a comprehensive and sector-wise review of implementation of the developmental projects in the district at a meeting of the district officers.
District Developmental Commissioner Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, DIG North Kashmir, SSP Baramulla, ADC, Director Planning, SEs and XENs of different line departments, CMO, CEO and other district and sectoral officers were present at the meeting.
The Chief Secretary stressed upon the concerned officers to work with fresh zeal and enthusiasm for the holistic development of the district. He directed the concerned to expedite the pace of work on the projects under execution so that the targetsare achieved within the stipulated time frame.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the officers for achieving the targets in different sectors. He sought detailed report about the components that are lagging behind due to some faults besides assuring every possible support in ensuring progress and prosperity of the district Baramulla.
He called for effective coordination between various departments so that qualitative services are delivered for the overall welfare of the people. He emphasized upon strengthening the public accountability and transparency besides terming the indices vital for efficient administration.
Chief Secretary also reviewed the progress of works under "Aspirational Districts" programme wherein he was informed by various heads of departments about their status. He reiterated upon the concerned to work with more diligence so that the district is placed at par with other developing districts of the country on developmental fronts.
On the occasion, the DDC Baramulla briefed the Chief Secretary about the status of various developmental activities being undertaken by different executing agencies. He presented a detailed account of the implementation of various centrally as well as state sponsored schemes besides highlighting the scale of socio-economic progress of the district.
Dr Naqash briefed the chair about the overall progress made in various sectors apart from presenting targets and achievements under different schemes viz UJWALLA, UJALA and several others. Moreover, he thoroughly highlighted the various activities that were carried out during the period of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. He presented a detailed account of achievements in various other sectors including health, education, agriculture etc besides highlighting efforts to yield more progressive results in these sectors. He also highlighted the urgent requirements in health sector and public infrastructure.

SRINAGAR, JULY 06: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today said that the efforts are underway for operationalisation of night-landing facilities at Srinagar Airport and all the requisite requirements will be met soon in this regard.
The Divisional Commissioner made these remarks while reviewing the modalities to start night-landing of flights at the Srinagar airport.
The meeting was informed that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has granted necessary permission for operating night flights.
It was said that the state government had already released Rs 3.86 crore for meeting the expenses of raising ancillary infrastructural facilities for night hours at the Airport for the convenience of travellers and the staff. 
Procurement of night-landing equipment was already done by Airport Authority of India and presently installation work is under progress which will be completed up to July 27.
 Threadbare discussions were held regarding operational feasibility like high mast lights for funnel area, approach lights, surveillance, watch towers at strategic locations, proper lighting for proper visual profiling of vehicles, additional X-ray machines at drop gate, adequate security, smart fencing and other necessary infrastructural up gradation in this regard.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the officers for completion of all these upgradations by ending July.
 For construction of prefab huts for additional security for funnel area and adequate car parking near drop gate of the Airport, Divisional Commissioner directed DC Budgam, concerned SSP, CRPF and SMC officers to inspect the locations at Lalgam, Buchroo and Chatterhama and send the complete report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office within next 10 days for necessary action.       
 On the occasion, Div Com said that the introduction of the facility would give a big push to the tourism sector in particular besides further improving the connectivity with other sectors of the country and would also help in improving the economy of the state as well.
He stressed on the need of maintaining close coordination among various Government agencies so that the night-landing operations at Srinagar Airport will be started for the public as well as tourists soon.
IG CRPF, DIG central, Deputy Director Airport Authority of India, DD Police Headquarters, ASP Anti Hijack Srinagar Airport, SE R&B, Joint Commissioner SMC, Assistant Commissioner and other concerned officials were present in the meeting whereas DC Budgam participated the meeting through Video Conferencing.

Jammu, Jun 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has setup a board for recruitment of Kashmiri migrants under the prime minister's employment package.
Police has already invited application for the recruitment of the Kashmiri migrants to fill over 100 vacancies.
Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of the police recruitment board for making selection of the candidates for the posts of constables in the JK Police for return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri migrants through transparent recruitment process, Nivedita Munshi, under secretary to the government, Home Department, said in a notification.
A seven member board, headed by Danesh Rana, IGP Armed Police, Jammu has been constituted in this regard. 
The other members of the board include Vidhi Kumar Birdi, DIG Central Kashmir Range, Rahul Malik, SSP, Ramesh Kumar Jalla, SSP Crime, Jammu, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood SSP CID headquarters, Jatinder Singh Johar, SSP and Stenzin Nurboo, additional director Sheri-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, it said.
The police recruitment board will strictly supervise, oversee, monitor the first three phases of recruitment (viz physical endurance test, physical measurement tests and written test), for making selection of candidates against the posts of constables, which will be filled through the Transparent Recruitment Process (TRP) after observing all procedural and codal formalities as prescribed by the government, it said.
Applications are invited online from eligible candidates of the Kashmiri Pandits of Kashmir Valley for recruitment as constable in police under the prime minister's package against the vacancies in the Pay Band-I of Rs 5,200-20,200 4-Grade pay 1,900 (Now revised 19,900-63,200 Level-2).  (PTI)

Patna, Apr 07: With an objective to tone up police machinery, the Bihar government today effected a major reshuffle of IPS officers by transferring and posting 21 IPS officers, including seven of them, being promoted to DIG rank. 
According to a notification by state Home Department, Police Superintendent (Rail) Muzaffarpur Birendra Kumar Jha had been promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank and was posted as DIG (Rail).
Similarly, Police Superintendent (Rail) Jamalpur had been promoted to the rank of DIG and was posted as DIG (vigilance investigation bureau) in its headquarters.
Police Superintendent, Naugachhia Pankaj Sinha had been also promoted to the rank of DIG and was posted in the special department.
Police Superintendent (rural) Patna Lalan Mohan Prasad had been promoted to the rank of DIG and was posted as DIG (Champran range) in Bettiah. Commandant, Home Guards Shekhar Kumar had been promoted to rank of DIG and was posted as DIG (Personnel), Patna.

SRINAGAR, MARCH 21: The Social Forestry Department in collaboration with Border Security Force (BSF) organized a function at Humhama today to celebrate International Day of Forests.
 The Day is celebrated to raise awareness of forests and trees.
Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad was the chief guest at the function which was also attended by DIG/PSO BSF, S. C. Budakoti, Regional Director Social Forestry Department, Tawheed Ahmad Deva, District Development Commissioner Budgam, Harun Malik, officers of the Forest Department and other concerned.  
It was said that Department of Social Forestry, Kashmir is planting 6.50 lakh plants under various schemes, while as 3.50 lakh plants are being distributed in the valley under farm forestry among farmers and various institutions.
The department has carried a massive plantation and awareness programme in schools in collaboration with education department by carrying plantation drives in schools of the valley during which more than 1 lakh plants of various species were planted.
It was given out that BSF have launched a major plantation drive in Kashmir, wherein more than 2500 saplings of different plant species, mostly fruit bearing were planted at BSF Humhama campus.
On the occasion, speakers stressed the need for protection of forests and increase in green vegetative cover by planting more plants and involving people and students in the endeavour.
Later, a debate competition and cultural programmes were presented by participating students.

Jalpaiguri, Feb 17: A devastating fire reduced to ashes a 300-year-old Bhabani Pathak temple at Sikarpur in the district last night.
Since the temple is situated at a remote area, fire brigade personnel couldn't reach in time.
The temple was completely reduced to ashes before the arrival of fire tenders even as the locals tried their best to douse the flames.
State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb, District Magistrate Rachna Bhagat, DIG Rajesh Yadav viited the site.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. Locals said the fire might have been caused by the flame of the lamp.
The temple, situated in Bodaganj forest near Sikarpur at Belakoba, is in common parlance that during the British period the Sanyasis who were famous as “swadesi dacoit” in North Bengal had links with the zaminders of Baikunthopur. 
Bhabani Pathak was the leader of the Sanyasi Movement. It is also a hearsay that Devi Choudhurani took her lessons from Bhabani Pathak. Inspite of being a dacoit, Bhabani Pathak enjoyed a lot of following among the downtrodden of the society and was quite acceptable to them. UNI

Koraput, Jan 23: Tension is mounting in Kunduli as the agitated villagers and Congress leaders took away the body of the Kunduli gang rape victim who committed suicide yesterday.
They staged a road blockade keeping the body on the road demanding CBI probe and action against the officials and doctors holding them responsible for the tragic incident.
The demonstrators did not allow the administration to take the body to Koraput for post mortem and forcibly took away the body from the hospital this morning and kept it near the Kunduli Haat blocking the NH 26 between Koraput and Visakhapatnam.
The agitators also burnt tyres on the road in protest against the suicide of the Kunduli gang rape victim and demanded that the Koraput District Collector, Superintendent of police and the DIG besides the doctors who ruled out rape be suspended and action against them be initiated.
Former Congress MP from Nabarangpur Pradeep Kumar Majhi led the demonstration and staged road blockade on the NH 26.Shops, business establishments in the area closed as tension prevailed in the area.
Meanwhile, the BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh in the undivided Koraput district tomorrow protesting against the suicide of Kunduli gang rape victim and a CBI probe into the incident. 
Koraput Collector, Sub Collector, and Semiliguda Tehsildar have reached the agitation spot and trying to pacify the agitators to hand over the body of the victim girl for post mortem. 
The minor dalit girl, a student of class IX, had alleged that she was gang raped by four men in uniform on October 10 last but the police quoting the medical examination report had stated that there is no truth in her statement.
The government had accorded the case as Red Flag handed over the investigation to the Crime Branch and ordered a judicial commission headed by the District judge of Koraput to probe into the incident .
The victim girl had all along been alleging that the police have pressurized her to change her statement and withdraw the FIR. 
She had even attempted to commit suicide on November 18 last after which she was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack and was discharged on November 27 last.
After her discharge from the hospital, the girl was under tremendous mental agony and maintained that she will not get the justice form the police and the administration.
Ultimately, the girl took the extreme step to end her life and committed suicide in her home yesterday by hanging herself with a scarf when the family members were not at home.
She was rescued in a critical condition and taken to the Kunduli Community Health Centre where the doctor declared her as received dead. UNI

Karachi, Jan 22:  The top Pakistani authrities have decided to arrest Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar in in connection with the Naqeebullah Mehsud extra-judicial murder. 
A meeting presided over by Counter-terrorism Department (CTD) Additonal Inspector General (IG) Sanaullah Abbasis on Sunday took the decision to this effect.
Mehsud was gunned down last week in Karachi by Rao Anwar-led police over alleged terror activities however, preliminary probe revealed that Mehsud was killed in cold blood and had no terror links.
Sindh Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) sacked Malir SSP following the incident and reportedly, authorities have moved to arrest the alleged perpetrator.
CTD Additonal IG-led meeting agreed to arrest Anwar and the personnel involved and transfer Station House Officers (SHO) of District Malir.
The meeting resolved to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspended officer and the personnel involved. Reportedly, the meeting decided to have Investigation Wing Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Qaimkhani lead the probe.
On the other hand, forensic tests of the weapons that Anwar claimed to have seized from Mehsud’s possession reveal that the weaponry was never used.
Reportedly, Rao Anwar has denied to appear before the inquiry committee and refuted the news that three police have recorded their statements against him.
In what came as an important development in slain Najeeb’s case, an imprisoned operative of an outlawed organisation denied knowing the person.

Inaugurates 3-day sports festival at Gindun Park
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 02: A range-level sports festival was inaugurated today at Gindun Park in Rajbagh locality here by DIG CRK, Ghulam Hassan Bhat in presence of senior officers of J&K Police.
The three-day festival will see hundreds of young players, selected through a rigorous process by J&K Police in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam districts, slugging it out in various sports events including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Judo, etc.   
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Bhat said the J&K Police is at the forefront of providing a good platform to talented youth of Jammu and Kashmir so that they can excel at the national and international levels.
The DIG said the state of Jammu and Kashmir has a largely untapped pool of talent, including in the sports arena, which needs encouragement and proper training.
 “By organizing these festivals, we are ensuring that our youths get a proper platform and necessary infrastructure to excel and bring laurels not only for their parents and the state but the whole country,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Srinagar, Tahir Saleem Khan, SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray and other senior police officers from Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar districts also participated in the opening ceremony of the sports festival. 

The opening game of football was played between Ganderbal and Budgam districts at the Gindun Park. The park will host all football and other sports events during the three-day festival while cricket matches will be played at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium.
